Soapbox Forum
Submitted by big john on Thu, 2013-04-04 14:29Adam,
Any chance we can have a 'soapbox forum'?
That way all the threads creeping in such as:
'this prick cut me off at the lights'
'arseholes abused me at boat ramp'
'this prick set up next to me on an isolated beach'
'my report only got a few replies'
'woe is me, I posted during the workday and didn't get a heap of gratuitous replies instantly'
'tourists suck, keep away from my town'
'this dog cut through my trolling spread'
etc can all be lumped into one spot and easily avoided by those like me who have no interest in them.
I like reading fishwrecked to see other peoples successes and triumphs, not to be weighed down by their problems or rants. Use your own facebook page for that I reckon.
Then again, who knows, maybe I'm the problem and getting stale, been on here for six and a half years.
#Btw, the irony that this is a rant is not lost on me.

Another trip out with Lucky Last Cast
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Thu, 2013-04-04 12:58We made the decision to hit the water again with Dave out on Lucky Last Cast, this time Sandy came along as well.
The first drop for the day was greeted by a 5 way hookup along the boat resulting with 4 nice skippy and a decent b/bum by me. there were plenty of red throats caught and released along the day with several nice fish to go along for the ride. the weather started out a bit blowy and lumpy out there but as the day went on it got better.
I landed a small wrasse of about 12cm long and straight away i said dhuie candy. sure enough a few drops later up came a small but tasty dhuie of 55cm. only to be out done by Sandy with a pb bauldie of about the 65cm mark which made my dhuie look small .
there were several good fish taken for the day by all on board with bauldies making their numbers known. From memory one nice pinkie of around 5kg was taken by another angler.
The result of keepers for Sandy and Myself was . Me, 1 dhuie,! bauldie and one B/bum. For Sandy, 2 bauldies one of which was a monster and 1 good size skippy. there were many other fish released by both of us along the day.
on a whole it was a great day out on the water with some good laughs to go.
Will be out there again when we get the chance. Thanks Dave for the good day out

Ready to go. WOOHOO
Submitted by outdoinit on Tue, 2013-04-02 20:07We are in Derby and ready to go..
Geez it is fast approching, I started planning this trip about 6 months ago - (Derby around to the horizontal falls and back)
Have the boats (7.6 mtr and 3.7 mtr quinnie) and the crew just about organized, we will be leaving Jurien Bay on thursday the 11th of April and allowing approx 3 weeks to do the round trip?
I am sure the trip will provide plenty of challenges with such large tides and scaly meat eating creatures etc ;-)
A big thanks to the people that helped me out with info etc..
Any last minute (Helpful) tips always welcome...

Drum winch / cruise craft explorer 625
Submitted by duges66 on Tue, 2013-04-02 16:17Looking to install a drum winch "inside" the rope/chain locker of 2008 Cruise Craft Explorer 625
I need drum capacity/rope length for diving in 30/35m so need the midi/medium etc...
Anyone been there done that or have a mate that has - I see many pics on the various sites of many diff' boats but none of this make/model.
Am told by all suppliers "yes should fit no worries" and reckon they've done them before but aren't sure if it was the same model etc.. & they don't have pics. So there is an element of doubt in my mind.
I don't want to ship one from another state to find it don't fit after all.
I know StressFree have a rep here so could simply go that way & if it doesn't fit it can be sorted easy enough but before I do go that way I'd like to keep my options open to other brands.
I have contacted CC and they have recent model experience but not for the earlier 2008 models.
The other thing to have confirmed is does the bulkhead between the locker & the cabin require reinforcing.
Anyone have this make/model and knows the answers from experience?

DIY Rod Racks
Submitted by grantarctic1 on Mon, 2013-04-01 23:59Hi crew, I just moved into my new place and realy needed some place for my rods to go. So i headed down to bunnings and bought a few planks of pine after looking online for some ideas.
Trying to keep it simple i got the materials and tools i needed togeather.

After working out the sizes , I cut the pieces required and started to drill the holes for the rod buts

I then used a smaller hole saw for the top section.

Because most of my beach rods are 2 piece i used a spade bit to drill holes inbetween to take the top sections or the rod's

By drilling the holes in the centre of the plank alowed me to cut them down the middle creating the bits to make two racks.

All the bits ready to assemble after rounding the edges with a router and a bit of sanding.

I used a nail gun to pin the frames togeather and the screwed them up tight.

A bit of putty in the nail holes and some more sanding then a coulpe coats of laquer mixed with stain .

The final product. Only problem is, I think i should have made another one ( some rods got left out ) Total cost = $50.00 plus time.

Cheers Grant

Submitted by Buttnekid on Mon, 2013-04-01 09:53Hey aall just thought I'd drop a quick hello line to you all - long time lurker finally decided to join up. I had a Rinker 270 kept at Kailis but decided it was limiting my fishing to around Rotto to much so have sold her and am awaiting my new boat, a 2007 Boston Whaler 235 from Florida to arrive in Mid May.
Just trying to work out what electronics to fit her out with. Leaning towards a Ray C125, DSM300 and a B124 as not sure if Chirp is worth the extra dollars right now.
Anyway boat's name is 'Reel Livin' so if you see me around, say G'day!

The New Boat Cover
Submitted by duges66 on Sat, 2013-03-30 02:40Just thought I'd share a few of pics of the new boat cover knocked together by a fishwrecked regular - chris raff.
I'd thought about getting a cover made for a while as I was sick of the amount torn tarps I'd gone thru over the yrs. Knowing Chris is an upholsterer, I'd asked him a couple of times while wetting a line if he could make one. On one of our next trips out when I dropped the hint again he surprised me by saying the canvas was on order and as soon as it arrived we'd be getting stuck into it.
It wasn't until we got "stuck into it" that I realised how much work is actually involved.
He's done a top job and I'm rapt. You'd think he does this all the time yet in fact it was the first time he's made one (doubt it'll be the last). Anyway the pics speak for themselves.
Cheers Raff ya done a top job.
Just thought I'd add that the boat cover is transportable also not just a storage cover.

Beware of Panel Vans.
Submitted by Seafarer 5.8 on Thu, 2013-03-28 16:32Fred and Fiona were making passionate love in Fred's Transit panel van when
suddenly Fiona (being a bit on the kinky side) yells out:
"Oh fat boy, whip me, whip me!"
Fred, not wanting to pass up this unique opportunity, obviously did not have
Any whips to hand, but in a flash of inspiration, opened the window, snaps
the radio-aerial off his van and proceeds to whip Fiona with it until they both
collapse in sado-masochistic ecstasy.
About a week later, Fiona notices that the marks left by the whipping
session are not healing and starting to fester a bit so she goes to the doctor.
The doctor takes one look at the wounds and asks:
"Did you get these marks having sex?"
Fiona, more than a little embarrassed that she had even slept with Fred - let
alone allowed him to indulge in her own kinky desires - eventually admits,
"Yes, I did."
Nodding his head knowingly, the doctor exclaims:
"I thought so. Because, in all my years as a doctor, you've got the worst
case of van aerial disease that I've ever seen.

Genuine advice needed
Submitted by Doooma on Wed, 2013-03-27 16:38http://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/trailer-boats/koolyn-18-runabout/123777
Interesting boat....
I know not many of you are fans of koolyn craft.. but what about this 1 in the ad?
Do you think the modified hull would actually work?
Bloody dear for a tinnie... but does have new 4 stoke on the back... which still means he's trying to get 15 - 20k for an old hull...
Anyone have any genuine advice on whether this modified hull would actually work and minimise the bone crushing banging of an alloy hull???

Xtreme Easter Update
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Mon, 2013-03-25 21:32Hi all, nearly that time again to think about the long awaited trips up North. Up in Exxy myself in a few weeks and then off to Gnaraloo in July.
Thought a little update and a few sale items was well and truely due.
I have completely sold out of cryovac machines. The Evapac has proven to the perfect item. I am awaiting a new shipment from Italy. There is no ETA yet. Sorry, no machines available. Typical, as soon as you sell out, everyone wants one. Appologies to those who have not been able to get their hands on one.
The bags are still available.
Small: 20/30cm @ 100 per box = $37.50
Medium: 30/40cm @ 50 per box = $37.50
Available for pick up at any time or easily posted anywhere in Australia. Call Dave for a price on postage based on postcode.
I still have some XTSH260litre marble coolers available. The 260 is the largest cooler we stock. Perfect for longer trips away, larger boats or even for professional boaties.
External dimensions are:
L: 1675, W: 590, H: 535 all in mm.
A very solid box that is well insulated and has a very generous internal length of 1140mm
These are on sale for FW members only at $360.00 Save $120.00
The Tan colour continues to be quite popular and i am willing to continue the introductory sale going at the moment for FW members.
The Tan colour comes in the 70, 100 and 120litre sizes in the standard range.
Introductory prices are:
XT70L Tan: $120.00 save $60.00 L: 820, W: 470, H: 420

XT120L Tan: $175.00 save $65.00 L: 910, W: 510, H: 500
I am still delivering coolers to FW members for free. This is based on the Perth metro area or how hard you twist my hand. You never know, i might be heading your way.
I have really good stock of all of the smaller coolers at the moment. The 20, 27, and 50litre coolers are looking good.
Remember, you can visit Dunsborough Outdoor Sports and Oceanside Tackle and Marine to view the Xtreme Coolers range. If what you want is not in store, then we can get it there for you.
Ryan and Blake stock a number of different sizes in the blue and marble colour and are always willing to help out those that head to O'Connor.
Dave and Damo also stock a number of different sizes in the marble range.
For those heading up North to chase Mackerel, Tuna, Wahoo and Mahi Mahi, the XT100litre Mackerel box is the perfect option.
L: 1350, W: 385, H: 430
I also use this cooler out of Gnaraloo for all of our bottom fishing for Reds, Pearl Perch, Robos, Snapper and Rankin amoung many others. You will fit more in here than you think. It is easy to carry for two people and can be used as the perfect seat in the boat. The 100litre Mack box is the most versitile cooler in our range.
Normally priced at $290.00 now $260.00 saving $30.00
Hope you all have had a cracking summer. The FW members continue to impress me.
I look forward to catching up with a few of you in Exmouth and then Gnaraloo.
Regards
Dave

Shark bay questions
Submitted by Davenay on Mon, 2013-03-25 21:08Hi all,
Heading to shark bay in two weeks with boat and three mates and I have some questions. 1, how far is dampier reef from turtle bay and what is the fishing like there? 2, what is the best way to manage dual batteries? And 3, how do I log on with sea rescue so I can keep my trip to the island safe? Thanks for your time on this, Dave.

Common decency with PMs
Submitted by carnarvonite on Mon, 2013-03-25 18:32Had a fair heap of PMs lately and I would think it was common decency when you are asking someones advice on fishing hints, spots or whatever to at least put your christian name on it so one has an idea who he's dealing with instead of his site name.
Like most of the long time members we have got to know who everyone is over time though having never met face to face, we still have the decency to sign each message but it seems some of the newer ones like to keep sectrets, so please do the righty and put a name on you messages.

AFL 2013 new rules
Submitted by Paul H on Fri, 2013-03-22 21:24bombers vs crows match just finished.
Just finished watching the opening match.
One thing I noticed was the new below knee contact rule appears to suck (no fox - didn't see the NAB cup) as long as they are going to pay it for incidental contact like that. Both frees were pretty minor and against the player going for the ball. (I'll admit I go for the crows and both frees were against us but I don't want to see that crap paid in a neutral game I'm watching either)!!
New ruck rule I sit on the fence - may be better but need to see more of it
Who watched and what did you think??

Boating pole victim
Submitted by carnarvonite on Fri, 2013-03-22 13:35Got this in an email the other day. Bloke whizzing along in his bass boat when he cilpped the bank, tossing him out of the boat and on to a fence post.
Doctors said the only reason he didn't bleed to death was that the pole was still inside him.
Badly broken leg, fractured pelvis and multiple internal injuries but still survived to fish another day.
