Motor Service and Repairs
Submitted by RobN on Sat, 2011-05-28 13:56I have a yamaha 115 four stroke which is currently 11 years old and done just on 1000 hours.
Have always had it serviced where I brought the boat from new and have lost confidence in them and the quality of service I am currently receiving.
Looking for an alternative and are seeking some recommendations from fellow boaties. I live north of the river but I am happy to travel south to get good service. I won't mention where I currently go just yet. Boat is in for some repairs as we speak. They have had the boat for almost 4 weeks and are not happy with the progress.

I just lost every single weigh point and track off my GPS - Not happy jan!

Drunk behind the boat wheel...
Submitted by Joodles on Thu, 2011-05-26 14:19We had the discussion earlier about people drinking on your boat and your opinions on it, but what's the law regarding the skipper drinking? Can you be fined for being over .05 whilst in control of a boat in WA. I don't usually think twice before swiggin a few beers on my boat. Only take into regard the drive home!

Thursday Funnies......
Submitted by JohnF on Thu, 2011-05-26 09:10Understanding engineers
It's not possible to understand Engineers. They are strange!!
Understanding Engineers #1
Two engineering students were biking across a university campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?" The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday, minding my own business, when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike, threw it to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, "Take what you want." The first engineer nodded approvingly and said, "Good choice: The clothes probably wouldn't have fit you anyway."
Understanding Engineers #2
To the optimist, the glass is half-full. To the pessimist, the glass is half-empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
Understanding Engineers #3
A priest, a doctor, and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers. The engineer fumed, "What's with those guys? We must have been waiting for fifteen minutes!" The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such inept golf!" The priest said, "Here comes the greens-keeper. Let's have a word with him." He said, "Hello George, What's wrong with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?" The greens-keeper replied, "Oh, yes. That's a group of blind firemen. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime." The group fell silent for a moment. The priest said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight." The doctor said, "Good idea. I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist colleague and see if there's anything she can do for them." The engineer said, "Why can't they play at night?"
Understanding Engineers #4
What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers? Mechanical engineers build weapons. Civil engineers build targets.
Understanding Engineers #5
The graduate with a science degree asks, "Why does it work?" The graduate with an engineering degree asks, "How does it work?" The graduate with an accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?" The graduate with an arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?"
Understanding Engineers #6
Three engineering students were gathered together discussing who must have designed the human body. One said, "It was a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the joints." Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections." The last one said, "No, actually it had to have been a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?"
Understanding Engineers #7
Normal people believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.
Understanding Engineers #8
An engineer was crossing a road one day, when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess." He bent over, picked up the frog, and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn back into a beautiful princess and stay with you for one week." The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to the pocket. The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a princess, I'll stay with you for one week and do anything you want." Again, the engineer took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket. Finally, the frog asked, "What is the matter? I've told you I'm a beautiful princess and that I'll stay with you for one week and do anything you want. Why won't you kiss me?" The engineer said, "Look, I'm an engineer. I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog - now that's cool."
I recall Hlokk saying this the other day "Four years ago befor I went to skool, I cooldnt spel enginear, and now I is one....."...hahaha. Just joshing Matt.

Car Trailer
Submitted by Mitch300491 on Wed, 2011-05-25 12:52Hey guys,
Lately ive been looking into getting a trailer for my 3.2m inflatable. Obviously wont have to be a boat trailer, just saves me having to deflate it and blow it up all the time.
Just a few questions, how much does it cost to license a trailer/ rego for one per year?? cant seem to find any info on the WA Transport website.
Also where would the best place be to look into for cheap trailers?? nothing fancy of course, just something to do the job.
Thanks,
Mitch

Dhufish
Submitted by Paully on Tue, 2011-05-24 15:43Is it just my imagination or is it a case of there being a lot more Dhu's in and around he metro area. It just seems to be that there a lot more being caught more regularly , not to mention the average size seems to be on the large side. It seems that people who are prepared (certainly some people i know personally) can just about guarantee a feed of Dhu. Is it a case of good luck or good management? Does the end of year demersal closure have any part to play in this. Just putting it out the fellas, interested in your thoughts.
Cheers

Fishwrecked Syndicate???
Submitted by robduca on Mon, 2011-05-23 21:14I am looking at starting up a greyhound racing syndicate and wondered if there would be any fishwrecked members that were interested?
I am currently looking at some well bred pups out of a good broodbitch and if i can find enough people to come in I will go ahead and purchase one.
I have started a website http://www.greyhoundracing.webs.com/
Feel free to join up or invite anyone that may be interested in greyhounds.
By joining a syndicate it is a very cost effective way to get into the sport and the possibility of buying into more than one to increase your chance of getting a champ.
If you want more information, email me at
Cheers
Rob

Drinking and boating
Submitted by Steve Richards on Sat, 2011-05-21 22:27Just wondering if I'm the only person that refuses to take alcohol out on the boat. I figure if I can't/wont drink while I'm out, surely the deckie can wait till we get home too, so I can enjoy myself as well. So many people have declined an offer to come out for that reason. Lucky for me my regular deckie is a non-drinker, but just wondering other peoples thoughts.

Transducer location and performance
Submitted by Alan James on Fri, 2011-05-20 19:20Where is the best position to mount a transom mounted transducer to gain a good picture? The more people I speak to and the more research I do the more this all sounds like black magic. I had lenghty discussions with the manufacturer of the boat I purchased some 4 years ago and went with their recommendation to have the 1kW transducer transom mounted. What seems to work well on some boats doesn't on others. I receive what I believe is aeration disturbance over the transducer at less than 10knots and am looking for other options that may increase picture quality. I'd be interested in comments from others who have transom mounted 1kW transducers and get what they consider to be a good quality picture at 15knots+.
Pics attached of the current set up. In the down position the underside of the transducer is approx. 85mm under the hull.

Prado v Pajero v Patrol v Pathfinder your opinions please
Submitted by John the Pom on Tue, 2011-05-17 16:57I know there have been dicussions in the past about this, but I'm in a specific situation and would like some advice as I've been looking and looking at these and my head is spinning.
Criteria
Need it for work, paid by car allowance so work OH&S have a say.
No dark colours as apparently they have more accidents.
Needs to be 2007+
Needs to economical (so diesel only), as I'll be using it for metro driving mainly for work (I know economical is an oxymoron with these), so needs to look good as well.
Needs to have 7 seats (wife's stipulations) as have 3 kids and a dog.
Needs to be in the $30000-40000 bracket for my loan repayments and to afford maintainance (preferably towards $35000, but will push it)
Will be going fishing in it, so most off roading will be dune/beach work, will also be doing a bit of camping.
Have been looking at Pajero's as the spec compared to a Prado at the same price is better, but am open ot the other vehicles as well.
Just wondering if people can help out with opinions with the above 4x4's or suggest others, as I said my head is spinning with going to dealers and looking on car sales so help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Pneumatic Boat Seats
Submitted by Alan James on Mon, 2011-05-16 16:46After the boss injured her back recently I am considering installing pneumatic boat seats. I have contacted Taylor Marine and Bias Boating and neither of them sell these seats (pedestals) or could put me onto anyone that did. I have googled 'pneumatic seats' without success. Has anyone seen these and if so where?

Landcruiser diesel servicing - injectors? NOR
Submitted by Joodles on Mon, 2011-05-16 15:41G'day, just wondering if anyone can recommend a service centre that specialises in diesel servicing and tuning? I have a Landcruiser100 that has some really poor fuel economy, I mean really poor and I'm told that the injectors should be done at 150k? My regular mechanic is good but he doesn't do alot of diesels so maybe you can recommend someone North of river, hopefully who has a dyno also?
Thanks

Xtreme Coolers heading to Busso and Dunsborough
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Sun, 2011-05-15 21:40Hi all
I am heading to Busselton and Dunsborough next weekend (May 20 - 22)
This could be a good opportunity to take advantage of the free transport. If you are down that way and are interested in our boxes or vac machines or want to take advantage of the FW prices on all products then contact Dave on 0403978583. I will even bring a trailer if the need is there.
Let me know what the needs are.
Hoping to get a surf or two in while i am down. It has been a while.
Hope to meet a few more FW members next weekend.
Regards
Dave

I couldn't believe that Paul
Submitted by spanishmackeral on Sun, 2011-05-15 19:56I had a good laugh today when i turned on to the new season of IFISH. After years of using, loving and bragging about how good E-tecs are, Paul is now a devoted suzuki man??
After laughing for a while at the fact that almost every show I've watched of IFISH theres been stuff about how evenrudes are the best motors on the market and now i guess i will have to get used to being told how awsome zukes are.
It might be the fact that I've been home sick all week, and am starting to go a bit insane,
but i just find this plain funny.
I wonder if he will start using saltigas next season??
someone had to say it.
