Lack of fish.. Weekend

How did everyone go over the weekend? I take it from the lack of photo's that the fish shut down. The weather was awsome Friday , Saturday and Sunday.

Myself I bled both days, I went Saturday, trawled Rotto south side to west end , nothing , minimal bait on sounder , birds wern't working. Shot out to 100metres see what was out there, nothing. Dropped a soft plastic in 100metres on some ground out there couldn't get a bite. So my palagic day resulted in zip.

Went Sunday, Weather was to good not to go, went Dhuie hunting this time. Started in 30's ended in late 40's for nothing. Ground was dead , Sounder just was not lighting up. so grabbed me bat and ball and came home.

Sunday the North current was strong even in the 30's our drift couldn't keep up with lines so i'm blaming the current. Saturday the current wasn't that bad i thought but i didn't spend much time bottom bouncing.

I was excited about the weekend as the amount of fish and the variety of species the weeks before have been exceptional.

Maybe LJ had the right idea and went crabbing haha

Unlocking iPhones

Being a techno dinosaur (I don't own a mobile phone) I'm looking for advice.  My sister-in-law is currently in 14 day quarantine in Sydney after returning last week to Australia from Texas where she has resided for the last 15 or so years.  She has been diagnosed with in-operable cancer so the future is not great.  Anyway she failed to ensure her iPhones were unlocked by her US service provider prior to leaving the US and now they don't work after inserting new SIM cards.  I have Googled 'unlocking iPhones' and there appear to be options available but I'm not sure whether these are scams.

Any advice / recommendations welcome.

Your preferred hooks

What are your preferred hooks to use and how much are you prepared to pay.

In hedland there isn't much choice but the gamakatsu work out at $2 each . Bit pricey if you ask me

Work load after pandemic

So how's everyone finding business and work now that the pandemic issue seems to be finally receding? Last time I was this busy was at the height of the last boom, literally can't keep up.

Had a call from my Oil and gas client today and they want me to retrain for BOSIET so I can work offshore. They reckon 4 rigs coming down in the near future and lots of fit out work. Bring on that day rate!!!

Happy days are here again ..... I can sense a couple of new Stellas

new fisheries minister

todays news is premier marky mgowan is demoting mr tinley the current fisheries minister

he has been given notice he will be moved on

also interesting to note the central northern seat was lost by nationals vince cattania and won by labor , that take sin shark bay ,,so the locals must have been swayed a little by the state wide reductions on demersals , they got there way and likley many voted accordingly ,,,.. mr tinleye rewards is to be demoted

bit or irony in that for him giving them locals what they wanted , helping to win the seat and then get the chop

interesting to see who the new minister is

lets hope he is not too green leaning and does actually fish

hezzy

Strange things washed up on beaches

Went out to spoil bank fishing today and found this land rover discovery washed up on high tide

Shore Catch Renews Sponsorship of Fishwrecked

Shore Catch is pleased to continue our sponsorship of the best web based fishing site in Western Australia, perhaps the world!  The wealth of relevant information about fishing and boating contained within the Fishwrecked database, accumulated over the last 15+ years, should never be lost and Adam should be commended for the provision of the site.

As well as providing funding for site maintenance, we will sponsor a monthly Fishwrecked members prize and this will be a 15cm curved thin boning knife by Victorinox, Swibo or Victory.  The competitions will vary, and member input is requested to determine what may be appropriate from month to month (stories, photos, most informative post, best comment, monthly individual species catches, etc).  If you have a suggestion please let me know via a personal message.  Adam has also allowed us to create a poll and it is intended to use member voting to determine winners for whatever category is selected in the month.

In keeping with the theme of an excellent site history on Fishwrecked, this month’s poll will be for the funniest post you have ever seen on the site (including post comments) – I can remember a few classics.  Before posting the poll, we are asking members to nominate their favorite post and it is this nomination that will enter you for the prize – if multiple members nominate the same post then the winner will be randomly selected.  We look forward to receiving the nominations and intend to list the finalist posts for review and voting over the last week in March – the poll will end on the last day of the month.

Shore Catch has now been operating for 5 years in Wangara, and we have always appreciated the feedback that Fishwrecked members have provided.  After much trial and error, we have now consolidated our product lines and look forward to promoting these in the coming months as we enter the next phase of our business.  We will not “bombard” you with commercial information but will try and provide subject matter that may be of interest.  All we ask is that you consider us when assessing options for purchase of the type of goods that we supply.

Mick

Footy tipping - Are we doing it?

 Hi Guys

Anyone doing this again this year. Even just for fun.

I am not tech savvy at all so cant stick my hand up to run it as I wouldnt have a clue what to do.

Cheers

Best way to erase hard water stains?

 Hi all,

although this doesn't apply to my boat (more so a recently acquired, old school subi) I was wondering if anyone knows any sure fire ways of removing hard water stains from glass? No doubt there are fisho's on here that have had the same issue with their boat screens? I've tried vinegar, car polish applied by hand, wd40, steel wool, simple green glass cleaner, even bloody carby  cleaner!

any detailing or glass guru's, the suggestions would be appreciated. It's for the rear screen but as mentioned I'm sure others have faced the same battle with their boat glass?

Engine upgrade opinions wanted

Ok so this has been mulling around in my head whether it's worth doing yet or to hold on. So I have a DF90 2006 Suzuki on my Quinnie. she's done around 600hrs max and I know can do a lot more but age is certainly becoming a factor. She's been well serviced and looked after flushing etc.

So I've been thinking of trading in for a new donk, worth the effort or not?

Estimate from West Coat marine $17200k and a trade in of $4k for my motor.

Whiting session and a p b

Had a rare full day off today so what's better than spending some time with a line in the water.

Got my bag of whiting with some beauties in amongst them . Also had my big lines out with a Livie on for good measure. Ended up with a p b Queenie which put on a great display of jumps well out of the water which was caught on my lighter outfit which is more designed for bream fishing . Finished the day when on the phone with Sandy when my big rod went off and as I grabbed that one and winding it in my other rod went off like a prawn in the sun emptying the spool of 100 mtrs of braid and about 40 mtrs of mono in less than a minuit only to see a shark of no less than 6 ft long at the end breaking the surface . No chance getting my line back let alone stopping it .

Ended with a good haul of whiting a Queenie and 2 small sharks

Anyone know of a stainless fabricator

hi team
i am looking to get a cradle made to hold my tender - pretty basic (like pic below) out of 25mm tube, anyone know of a fabricator ?
cheers

Insurance.......here we go yet again

Helping a Fishwrecked member with their claim against Club ......who are trying to argue that, as the boat was purchased very cheaply ( indeed it was...... as a result of a divorce and the need for the owner to quickly cash out ) then that is supposedly the "market value" and hence all they have to settle for.   I have seen an independent valuation which bears no resemblance to what is being offered.   When will they learn ?

Western Angler Magazines

just been doing a clean out and I have probably 150 western angler magazines dating back to the late 80s that I have doubles of. Happy to give them away to anyone who collects them. Also if anyone has any recent or really old western angler magazines they want to get rid of let me know as I am missing some. Cheers Jamie

Willie Won't He get 4 Years

Billy bong rioloi's ban looks to be coming soon.

Hard lesson for a few billie's with the mates and being naive enough to think the asada testers can be fooled on game day.

Certainly deserves two years probably not 4 but who knows.

Just another idiot to add to the West Coast list of fools.

3D Printed Lures

Bought my son a 3D printer for his birthday and I can't believe how good this bit of kit is. He's keen to start making his own lures for salmon season with it so has anyone given 3D printed lures a crack and can offer advice on the hook/line attachment points? I was even thinking of knocking up some soft plastic molds

I've posted up some examples below for Scano who sent me pics of some examples he's knocked up.

Kaptan boat collars

I'm looking around for camper trailer tinnie options a d I have seen one with a boat collar fitted.

Their claims look pretty amazing, has anyone Actually got one/can provide some real world feedback?

Bait run

Back up in hedland again but this time I invested in a throw net for collecting bait for our up coming trip on May to coral bay.

They certainly aren't easy to cast when your only learning. First time.e out was just for learning but didn't go well at all with Maybe 3 casts out of about 50 that worked and my arms felt it by the end.

Second time out was more successful with about 50% working which ended with some

Tinnie in Coral bay hire or buy?

I'm heading to Coral bay warroora station for a week before Easter with the camper trailer.

I'm tossing up buying a tinnie and taking it on the camper vs hire one when up there.

Pros of buying:

- can use on any day

- can customise

- sell after trip to get money back

- don't have to drive into CB to collect/return

Pros of hire:

-  don't need to risk not being able to sell it after

- would be larger and reliable

- no transfer fees

What are your thoughts?

Solar LED strip lighting

Hi all does anyone know where I could get the above from? I've seen them on eBay but wanted to get them quicker if possible. Just want to have some extra light on the boat at night.

Cheers

Fibreglass oxidation

 Hey all

My fibreglass hull is looking a bit chalky any recommendations on how  and what to use to clean it up an polish the goodness back into her cheers.

Clean Lead

If anybody has some clean lead they won't to sell, or knows someone who has, can you please flick me through a private message. Chasing several hundred kilos.

Thinking of Selling my Dinghy

I am coming around to thinking that the time has come to part ways with my dinghy I bought new in 2014 which just isn’t getting the use or love that it deserves with my boys now older and wanting to head out in the boat rather than allowing me to escape for a solo bream session.

  • Finn Spindrift 3m (2014)
  • Tohatsu 2 stroke 6hp (2014) – serviced regularly and is in as good as new condition.
  • JW Watersnake 54lb bow mounted electric motor (2016)
  • Century 105ah deep cell battery (2018)
  • Older licenced trailer which has rusted areas but I had Seakem weld a 5mm plate to the worst area for added security. Replaced axle, springs and hubs in 2014.
  • I also have two transducers attached to the transom – a LSS1 and a standard 83/200
  • I only the one 2019 HDS7 Carbon (4 month’s warranty left) that I share between the boat and the dinghy but am thinking it might be best to include the HDS7 with the dinghy and upgrade the boat’s to the HDS7 Live.
  • Also has Railblaza rod holders and a drink holder, sea anchor, anchor, rod holders up front etc etc and I made a casting deck for up front to steer the leccy motor and get right under those snags

All up including the HDS unit I have outlaid approx. $5,990.

If I were ever going to part ways with my first love now would be the time with the ridiculous prices people are getting for leisure items and am thinking at floating it up at a high price and seeing if I get any nibbles but what is a realistic price should I stick it up for as a starting point?

Selling items privately - The process?

So the boat will be going to a new home next week... Being quite a sum of money, how do you all manage the transfer? Buyer is proposing electronic transfer but from a different bank.

I was thinking:

1) We'll do the paperwork/rego together etc

2) Buyer can then make the transfer with that protection of signed paperwork.

3) Buyer can pick it up once funds have cleared

Is there a better way that offers both parties protection in private sales?
