roof racks
Submitted by Sea goat on Tue, 2019-10-22 12:14hey guys.
anyone had any roof racks put on their hard tops? missus likes the idea for paddle bards etc, but not sure how could do this without sacrificing the rocket launcher. anyone ever found a way to have both? paddle board would be a nusiance to have to have in the boat given the size.....
cheers!

Could so easily have been a disaster
Submitted by sunshine on Fri, 2019-10-18 13:14I am recounting this tale with the permission of the boats owner. A few years ago he had a 3.5 tonne custom made trailer manufactured for his boat, the boat was weighbridged fully loaded and came well within that load capacity.
Returning to Perth from Coral Bay on the June long weekend and travelling at speed just north of the 440 roadhouse the draw bar snapped causing loss of control, thankfully there was no oncoming traffic of we might well have been looking at more fatalities. Lodging claims for the vehicle boat and trailer whilst the the car and boat were met by insurers the trailer was denied. The reason for the denial was in no way related to the trailer being over loaded. An engineer appointed by the boat insurer determined that it was under-designed and that the steel used in the draw bar failed to meet Australian Standards. Welding near the point of maximum bending stress had further weakened it and it failed through brittle cracking originating around the welded surface and then through complete shear failure.
The owner, through a fishwrecked member, came to me for advice. I had pretty strong views but wanted an engineer to look over the photos to comfirm so Seakem (Andy) was kind enough to review both the asessors report and the photos. Based on his thoughts I asked the owner to pay for and secure a mettalurgical report which confirmed our views. We then proceeded to make a claim against the trailer manufacturer for negligence. Four months later and after much toing and froing he today signed a discharge securing reimbursement of the indemnity value of the trailer from the liability insurers. A great outcome all around but it could so so easily have ended in tragedy.
I see regularly when I travel north fisho's treating their boats like glorified trailers, loading them up to the gunnels with camping and other gear, freezers, beer (you name it and they load it) potentially overloading the trailer and risking a similar failure and putting at risk insurance coverage on both the car and boat. Please think twice when heading north even though this had nothing to do with overloading I hope it acts as a cautionary tale.

Ouch
Submitted by timboon on Fri, 2019-10-11 08:02I'm hearing Jack Stevens might have ended up with a sore bottom after getting on the piss with Darcy Moore.
Apparently his mental health issues have largely been a result of this.
I'll stress again that's what I'm hearing, this is not from the horses mouth but a reasonable source...
Uncle have you ever been camping with big Darce

commercial crayfisher fine
Submitted by bod on Thu, 2019-10-10 22:16A commercial fisherman caught taking 'totally protected' crayfish and removing the tarspot from 224 crayfish has been ordered to pay $76,766.40 in fines, penalties and court costs.
Fisheries WA said officers found tarspot pieces on the boat’s deck and in the holds, and 224 crayfish in the day’s consignment with the tarspot removed, following an inspection of his vessel.
Female western rock lobsters which have a tarspot or are carrying eggs are 'totally protected' and Fisheries said they must be be returned to the water immediately if caught – before the next pot is pulled.
"This applies to commercial and recreational fishers and is important to maximise breeding stock and ensure the sustainability of the fishery," they said.
"You can call FishWatch 24/7 on 1800 815 507 to report any suspected illegal fishing activity."

Towing capacity
Submitted by Sea goat on Wed, 2019-10-09 08:23Firstly, I apologise as I know this topic has been done to death. I used the search and read through a lot of previous posts but still can’t get my head around it. Was looking in particular for a diagram that I had seen put up before but couldn’t seem to find it.
i have a 2015 Toyota prado Gxl auto.
Just weighed with me in it at 2.58t (arb roobar, suspension, racks etc). From what I can see max towing weight is suggested at 2.5t, tow ball down weight max 250kg.
i need to work out the max I can tow a the boat I am looking to get will be pushing the limit. It should come under 2.5t, but I want to make sure will still b ol with the mods I have put on the car.
assuming fully loaded car would be, say, 2.75 for example, how can I work out the max I will be able to safely tow?
thanks guys. Maths never was my strong point!

Anyone had any results with FishWatch? _ Crabbing during closure.
Submitted by SpotHound on Thu, 2019-10-03 14:07Saw a couple of boats fishing for crabs in the Swan River today, but when I rang fishwatch, they were unsure where the Swan River actually was.!
I was asked a series of irrelevant questions eg whats the post code? I gave up.
I AM READING THE FOLLOWING CUT N PASTE FROM THE FISHERIES WEBSITE CORRECTLY??Blue swimmer crabsPerth and South West: Closed season 1 September – 30 November (inclusive).
All waters including rivers, estuaries and man-made waterways from the Swan River to Rich Road Minninup Beach (15km south of Bunbury) are closed to crab fishing 1 September to 30 November.
The closure protects crab breeding stocks, and allows female crabs to spawn before the fishery reopens.

Spawning Snapper - ripper day out
Submitted by Swompa on Wed, 2019-10-02 19:27Managed to get the day off today and headed out with the family. Heading towards Carnac, just going past Woodmans point, I thought we had come across the end of the pipe stirring up water but nope, it was a mass of pinky's doing their thing.
Awesome to see, more so with the kids.
Took a few photos and some video resisting the urge to grab one for a taste after not catching a size one for two years....
Continuing out, the kids got into some squid with one pulling serious drag on the little k-mart 4lb pond reels. Kids are loving it at the tic, moreso as the wife and I have contributed 0 to the tally in the last three trips.
5yo daughter helped me clean them and enjoyed dissecting their innards. A heap of sand crabs appeared to make the most of an easy meal which added to the fun.
Continued out and played with some dolphins before heading out to 20m looking for whales but no luck. Into the beach at GI for a sausage, sandcastle and snorkel before heading in at 2:30.
Bloody great day.

Lost my bait board - Comes in three's
Submitted by Swompa on Sun, 2019-09-29 20:37Picked up the trailer on Wednesday and worked my ring off to get it back together and ready to go today. Quick drive around the block yesterday to check that it followed me which it did. Yay!
Headed down to Woodies today. From Thornlie, we go down Warton to Armadale road straight through.
Got to the warton/Armadale intersection and hear tap tap tap coming from the back. Jumped out to inspect but can't see anything suss but one hub is a bit warm. Slowly head towards the freeway and the tap turns into a bang bang bang. Found a subdivision near Bunnings and jumped out to run beside the car to see where it was coming from. I quickly found the dodgy side and got the fuck up fairy diversion kit out and got to work on what I assumed was a shot bearing but after stripping it all down, it was the oustside of the mech disc brakes. Don't know what was banging but after removing the outside half of the disc, no more noise...may as well keep going then I guess..
Got down to the ramp and went to put something on my brand spanking new bait board and oh shit, it's gone...One month old, haven't used it. Only saw the light of day yesterday...fuck.
Out we go...
Kids quickly got squid each which got the smiles back and we headed round the back of GI to our KG spot to get a couple. Saw a school of them but only the individual stragglers were hungry.
Back around the inside to grab a quick cray and was pleased to see a big blue manna crab whilst I was cleaning the fish. The cray catch bag was good enough to disentigrate though it was on its third life. RIP old catch bag.
any hoo - if anyone found a bait board today and wants to earn some good karma, hit me up...

6.5 Creedmoor
Submitted by timboon on Sat, 2019-09-28 08:10Howdy crew,
I'm thinking of treating myself and buying a new rifle.
My current crop of high powereds were all purchased second hand and of the 3 ( Rem .17 & Sako Forrester 22-250 ) i only use the winchester mod 70 .308...
Both the 17 and the 250 were aquired cheaply 15 years ago, both would need barrel replacements. Both came with 8 x 56 Khales scopes, i've had the scopes serviced and will also sell for the right price.
I'm thinking of having a cleanout and turning 3 rifles into a 6.5 Creedmoor.
Is anyone here using that calibre rifle? Seems to be hard to find a fault with it from the reports i read...

Willie positive for cannabis - new charge
Submitted by ricey on Tue, 2019-09-24 12:42WEST Coast forward Willie Rioli has returned a positive sample for a metabolite of cannabis in a separate ASADA test to that currently under investigation for urine substitution.
Rioli was tested following the Eagles' elimination final victory over Essendon September 5.
His sample contained the metabolite of cannabis, which is an in-competition prohibited substance under the Australian Football Anti-Doping Code.
Read the AFL's statement on Willie Rioli here
It comes after he allegedly substituted urine during an out-of-competition doping control test on August 20.
He is currently provisionally suspended while that investigation takes place and is facing a ban of up to four years.
Rioli's provisional ban kept him out of the Eagles' semi-final against Geelong and rocked West Coast just two days out from the season-ending loss.

FINLAYSONS AMAZING RUCK STEAL TO GOAL, NO UNCLES ALLOWED
Submitted by timboon on Sun, 2019-09-22 16:26Bloody hell did anybody see that incredible manoeuvre Finlayson did that resulted in a goal, he simply shifted Grundy out of the way and stole the game in a move that can only be described as an act of courage and commitment and knowledge and muscle.
Just wow

Roos on road
Submitted by carnarvonite on Sun, 2019-09-22 10:37Warning for those travelling north for school holidays, watch out for roos and goats from Overlander north to Carnarvon.
Went down to Shark Bay last Monday before the road clean up patrol had gone through and there was approx 30-40 fresh carcasses on the roadside. Will be heading down again tomorrow and will update if it is the same.

Landcruiser 200 catch can @30,000km
Submitted by pelagicyachts on Fri, 2019-09-20 11:44I posted a similar thread a few months back at 20,000 on my LC200, i fitted a HPD catch can at 10,000km and was surprised at how much oil had accumulated over the 10k period and in particular that it had water in it.
I just hit 30,000km and ahead of its service gave the can a clean out - more oil than last time and more water contaminated oil - second pic highlights this - it looks like reflection but that is just water based sludge, and its a lot thicker than it looks in the pic - anyone else experiencing this? i assume it is formed as a result of short trips?

Smoked Trout from the Front Yard
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Tue, 2019-09-17 07:42I've been running an aquaponics system for a number years and have lost my last three batches of trout due to silly mistakes, leaving them in too long into warmer weather, water flow shutting off due to a dead one being sucked in the pump with no air pump and last year I filled up the pond and later pulled the hose from the tap which siphoned the pond empty.
Alas this year I foolproofed my system and only lost three netting 17 trout for the smoker and a winter of fresh garden greens, sweet radishes and crunchy snow peas.
The trout start out as 4cm fingerings around May and are ready for harvest around the time that we start getting 30 degree days as they're very O2 sensitive and don't handle water temps above 22 degrees too well.

Help with WAECO fridge needed
Submitted by Paul N on Sun, 2019-09-15 09:33Wondering if there are any fridge mechanics on fishwrecked .
I have been given an 80ltr Waeco fridge that is not getting cold . All electrics are working and the danfoss compressor is pumping but fridge is not getting cold .
Assume it needs re gassing but not sure if there is a leak or not . is there a way of telling if it has lost gas or if there is a leak .
Cost of re gassing if possible or cost of diagnosing the problem .
Don't want to spend a lot on it but seems a waste to throw it out if it can be fixed .
Cheers for any help
Paul

Week 2 Final
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2019-09-13 08:52We're still allowed 22 for tonight so we're still in the hunt against a Geelong side out to prove a point. Duncan is a bigger out than Rioli but Guthrie is a pretty handy in. As with Sheed last year this is Petch's chance to shine. Should be a cracking match and let's see how the boys respond.
