Saturday Sound Session
Submitted by Rodrat on Sun, 2009-02-15 21:29Hi All
Got a call from a mate late saturday arvo asking if i wanted to head out into the sound for a snaaper session.
He didnt have to ask me twice! Started fishing about 5.30pm until around 9pm.
We had a good time with soft plastics and squid, mulies and scalies for bait. Fished in 6 to 7 meters.
We caught 12 Pink snapper ranging from 20cm to 50cm, 1 bream, 4 pike, 4 rays, 2 flathead, 4 tailor and a baby sambo.
Was a great arvo/evening fish with hardley any wind. Kept one snapper and 2 flathead, rest were released succesfully.
Cheers

Boating Etiquette
Submitted by bolts on Sun, 2009-02-15 19:03I've been boating for the past 25 yrs & the events I witnessed today at Matilda Bay boat ramp has left me feeling extremely angry & violated.
Those of you that participated at the Bream Comp (where the presentation was held at Matilda Bay) need to learn some boating etiquette.
Firstly, we all confront busy ramps from time to time, but the way to approach these is to get in line, wait your turn & keep your cool.
It made many of us at the ramp today extremely pissed off to watch these guys drop their mates off to go get the car, to then push in front of all the other boats who were already waiting at the front of the queue, then hook their boats up - while the rest of us watched & waited - as we couldnt get passed the massive queue in the carpark for the guys who didnt even have boats on or near the jetty???
I can understand this taking place on a dual slipway boat ramp, where 2 boats can retrieve at the same time - but this was not the case with the single slipway & finger jetty. The person at the base of the jetty should have right of way.
The fact that it was busy on the water, then spilled out & affected the carpark by these idiots who went to get their cars & blocked up the whole carpark for those of us who had patiently been waiting in line.
Finally, I then witnessed one of these guys push past & scrape his piece of tin up the side of my boat while retrieving. This had me at boiling point. This will be reported to DPI.
Shame on you....... you have a lot to learn about boating.

BBQ TO RAISE MONEY FOR VICTORIAN BUSH FIRES - THIS SUNDAY
Submitted by Tim on Wed, 2009-02-11 19:28I've been asked to post this on behalf of Shane who is busy trying to organise this event for the weekend.
A very worthwhile cause this one so it would be good to see people turn up if they can to support it.
Hi all
I've made an executive decision to hold a BBQ this Sunday to raise money for the Victorian fires.
Details are.....
This Sun 15th Feb, at 11.30am at Matilday bay foreshore.
It will be at the northern end of the bay near the UWA boat shed - I would have prefered the southern end but this is the spot we have been allocated by the Dept of Environment and Conservation who has also waived the associated fees because of the cause so I'm not complaining.
Matilday is reasonably central, has safe water the kids can play in (it's currently forecast 38C), good toilets (in uwa boat shed which I'm told we can use), is near a decent boat ramp and has a beach area where you can beach your boat. There are no bbq's at that end but the dept said you can bring portable ones along.
I'll make a dodgy sign, Fishos Unite for Fire Appeal or something equally creative. And I will gladly rattle a tin.
Bring your own everything and some cash notes to donate, $5 to $20,000 all welcome. (was $2 but I've since been given advice notes are easier to handle and count
I've called Recfishwest and they've offered to count the money raised. If any knows someone in security who can provide a beefy guard or something for the money collected during the day that would be appreciated.
Let as many people know as possible by any means possible. I'll be posting this on the other forums (Fishos unite right?), contacting Boating WA, trying to get it in the papers though I'm told it's a bit late for that, Recfishwest will sent out an email to all members. If you all could do the same that would be great.
So who's in????????
The Frog
aka Shane Boog
btw, if anyone can lend a hand organising this thing that would be appreciated. Never done this before but it sounds like the right thing to do. My number is 045 818 6660
Water Police will also be turning up to show off their boats, hopefully both the RIBs and the 54 footer Falcon!
And they will happy to chat to anyone and everyone about anything.
oh, and btw, in case you are interested, there is now a ............drum roll..................
$1,400 Aristocraft 2.3 Metre Inflatable Tender
up for grabs!!!!!!!
Kindly donated by Paul Duggan of Benbow
yeah baby, I might even have to enter that one
Am I even allowed to do that, well it's my party so I'll cry if I want to ....whistle whistle...

Contact Gillian (or staff) at Pilbarra Real Estate and bring watever you can spare, any donation of goods will help those that are suffering.
Please help our desperate Aussie's in their hour off need and show that FISHER PEOPLE ARE THE BEST IN HEART AND SPIRIIT AND PASSION.

Navy diver attacked by shark in Sydney
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Wed, 2009-02-11 11:22A NAVY diver is undergoing emergency surgery after losing a hand and part of a leg in a shark attack in Sydney Harbour early this morning.
The 31-year-old man is undergoing emergency surgery and is in a serious condition following the attack at Woolloomooloo Bay, in Sydney's inner east, just before 7am (AEDT) today.Royal Australian Navy Rear Admiral Nigel Coates said the attack occurred in the area between Mrs Macquarie's Chair and Garden Island Naval Base.
Rear Admiral Coates, who is Fleet Commander at Garden Island, confirmed the man is a navy diver who was participating in a diving exercise in Sydney Harbour run by the navy over the past two weeks.
"He was with a police diver, I understand, at the time because the exercise included police divers. The attack occurred on the surface,'' he told Fairfax Radio Network.
"He fought off the shark. He hit the shark a few times, as I understand it, and then swam a couple of metres to the safety boat which was obviously nearby.
"The safety boat people got him on board, applied first aid, rang triple-0, got him to the ambulance and up to the hospital.
"It sounds to me, initially at least, like he got to hospital very quickly, and he's in the good hands of St Vincent's.''
Navy divers were a "pretty tough breed'' who trained regularly in Sydney Harbour and were used to the conditions, he said.
A New South Wales ambulance spokesman said the 31-year-old suffered severe injuries to his right hand and thigh.
The diver was rushed to nearby St Vincent's Hospital where a spokesman said the victim was undergoing surgery.
"He's up in surgery at the moment,'' the spokesman said.
"The fact that he has been rushed into surgery indicates that it is quite serious.''
The diver was taking part in the Kondari Trial, a test of new technologies to protect ports and ships from terrorist attack, which began on Monday.
A spokesman for the Defence Science and Technology Organisation said it was likely the trial would be cancelled today.
A shark expert said a bull shark was likely to be responsible for the attack.
"If the injuries are severe, it's more likely to be a bull shark,'' shark expert John West from Taronga Zoo said.
"This time of year, there's a number of species of sharks which are in the harbour: wobbegong, Port Jackson, as well as more dangerous types such as the bull shark and the dusky shark.
"The bull sharks are the most dangerous. But I don't know what sort of shark is involved or the circumstances.''
The last shark attack in Sydney Harbour was at Athol Bay, near Taronga Zoo, in 2000, and the last fatal shark attack in the harbour occurred in 1963, Mr West said.
Martha Hathaway was killed by a bull shark at Middle Harbour in 1963.
A report on the likelihood of shark attacks in Sydney Harbour during the 2000 Olympic Games said the risk was infinitesimally small.
However, the report, by Mr West and Dr John Paxton, research fellow at the Australian Museum, also said: "We recognise that in biology exceptions can occur and that it is never safe to say never.''

Devastation
Submitted by big john on Sun, 2009-02-08 16:45Watching the news and trying to understand how 65+ people can be killed and 700+ houses can be destroyed by bushfires.
Just can't imagine a 40m high firestorm roaring down on your house and you trying to save it with a roof sprinkler system and your 18mm garden hose.
Fires moving so quick that they can't be outrun in your car when you decide to bolt or then finding fallen trees blocking the road.
Unbelievable, horrific ...

PONDERING
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2009-02-08 10:10When the wind is up and the skin is dry
A lot of frustration and tears in the eye
We want to get out on the water
As rough as it is i dont think we aughta
While we sit back and do a bit of reminissing
All we want to do is go out and get fishing
When we sit there staring at the screen
We all could just stand up and scream
The day is warm but blowing a gale
The weather gods have decided to bail
As all our rigs are getting made
Our chance of fishing have begun to fade
When we get up early in the morning
All we see is that dreaded warning
We are looking up at the branches bent
Wondering when is that wind going to lent
Am i going mad as i think i might
Thank ged we have our fishing site

Know your Stuff
Submitted by Stoinka on Fri, 2009-02-06 19:03
Subject: FW: KNOW YOUR STUFF
A man goes to the famous Lucas Carton restaurant in Paris with his girlfriend and orders the 1928 Mouton.
The waiter returns with a bottle full of wine, pours a small amount in the glass for tasting. The customer picks up the glass, smells the wine, and puts it down on the table with a thud.
'This is not the 1928 Mouton.'
The waiter assures him it is, and soon there is another twenty people surrounding the table including the chef and the manager trying to convince the man that the wine is the 1928 Mouton. Finally someone asks him how he knows that it is not the 1928 Mouton.
'My name is Phillipe de Rothschild, and I make the wine..'
Finally, the original waiter steps forward and admits that he poured the Clerc Milon 1928.
'I could not bear to part with our last bottle of 1928 Mouton. You know Clerc Milon, it is in the same village as Mouton, you pick the grapes at the same time, the same cepage, you crush in the same way, you put them into similar barrels. You bottle at the same time, you even use eggs from the same chickens to fine them. The wines are the same, except for a small matter of geographic location..'
Rothschild beckons the waiter forward, and whispers to him,
'When you return home tonight, ask your girlfriend to remove her underwear.. Put one finger in one opening, another finger in the other, then smell both the fingers.
You will understand what difference a small distance in geographic location makes.'

GPS SPOTS
Submitted by herk on Fri, 2009-02-06 10:59Hey peoples,
I was hoping someone might be able to help me. My boss has got me putting all his GPS spots that are hand written in his little book onto his computer. But the spots are missing the last digit. Now someone has told me that is because they added an extra digit to the coordinates sometime ago so maybe these spots are from before that time. Would that be true?? If so how do i covert them to the new 16 digit coordinate??
Hope someone can help

The stimulus package fully explained
Submitted by ody on Fri, 2009-02-06 08:12Hi Ya,
This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format:
Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.
Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.
Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.
Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a High definition TV set or a new computer, thus stimulating the economy.
Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
A. Shut up.
Cheers.

Beggars
Submitted by Stoinka on Fri, 2009-02-06 07:20Parvinder and Habib are beggars. They beg in different areas of London .
Habib begs just as long as Parvinder but only collects £2 to £3 every day.
Parvinder brings home a suitcase FULL of £10 notes, drives a Mercedes, lives in a mortgage-free house and has a lot of money to spend.
Habib says to Parvinder 'I work just as long and hard as you do but how do you bring home a suitcase full of £10 notes every day?'
Parvinder says, 'Look at your sign, what does it say'?
Habib's sign reads 'I have no work, a wife and 6 kids to support'.
Parvinder says 'No wonder you only get £2- £3
Habib says... 'So what does your sign say'?
Parvinder shows Habib his sign....
It reads, 'I only need another £10 to move back to Pakistan '
