Tackle box found as suspicious package
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2009-03-19 11:07The bomb squad rushed to Sydney's CBD on Thursday only to discover that a package left under a motorcycle was an innocuous tackle box full of fishing gear.
Phillip Street went into lockdown around noon (AEDT) after a passerby noticed the box resting among a row of motorcycles parked outside the NSW Rugby League Headquarters. A number of buildings were evacuated in the area, including the Queens Square tower housing courtrooms for the NSW Supreme Court and the Federal Court.
The street was closed off between Martin Place and King Street to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Courier Matthew Smith had identified the item when police rushed in to clear the area. "It's like a tackle box but it had a padlock on it," Mr Smith told AAP. "I was in the middle of a job, I've got a tonne of boxes in the street. They (police) told us to stop and come to the end of the street."
Sniffer dogs, the bomb squad and a pack of police cars and rescue trucks were on the scene for over an hour while the tackle box was carefully examined without being disturbed. Meanwhile, lawyers from the court building stood on the pavement working on their legal papers and crowds gathered at the edges of the exclusion zone.
"A decision was taken to move some people from the location," Inspector Pat Morris told reporters at the scene. "We don't let the area be open to the public unless we're 100 per cent sure that it is safe to do so."
About 1.20pm, a bomb squad officer returned from the scene in a relaxed state, carrying the box in his hand. After examination, it was determined a forgetful fisherman was to blame for the false alarm.
"It was examined and found to be items consistent with fishing," Insp Morris said. Police did not know who the tackle box belonged to and did not find anything inside that identified its owner. The street was reopened and police left the scene a short time later.

lights on boats?
Submitted by Simo_ on Wed, 2009-03-18 13:22I was just wondering what the rules are in regards to putting a spot light on a boat so you can see where you are going at night.
Last year in exy I always seemed to be coming in when it was dark, would be good to see where im going.

User profiles
Submitted by 7739ian on Wed, 2009-03-18 07:08I had a P.M. from Damo6230 kindly inviting me to go breaming in the Blackwood as like me, he is a Busso area resident. Damo mentioned some of the bits in my user profile were familiar being an ex NT resident himself. Out of curiosity i looked at the user profiles of those currently on line and i was a little disapointed to see the majority had no details at all. I understand those of you with extensive contact with the legal system or an unfortunate fascination with goats would be a little reluctant to advertise the fact - but a bit of basic info would be good. Like a lot of users i am familiar with the more prolific and outgoing users such as the Cols, Adam, The Faulkners etc but often wonder about a lot of other less frequent posters. I am not stalking you people but it's nice to know a bit about the posters and a bit of a profile gives an idea.

looking for new ground
Submitted by Paul G on Tue, 2009-03-17 20:27Have been fishing some new ground of late, with some very promising results. Have found an area of ground probably passed by many, we have been sounding out the holes and edges for the last few trips. And this area gets bigger and bigger. We have had 9 dhuies 4 dropped fish and 7 released, in three trips .All dhuies, don't seem to get any other species. All fish are dark in colour. for the newbie fisho's trying to get a handle on things put in the hours driving around sounding things out ,and the rewards will come .Some of the best fisho's this site has spend many hours driving and watching the sounder ,and they all come up with fish . I still think there is a lot of ground holding some good fish, in this day and age with all the pressure from fishing, to find ground untouched holding numbers of fish is a great achievement and the fish are just a bonus. I love the hunt, finding that little rock ,lump ,edge or hole that hasn't seen a line pass by. Look at Ryan T the fuel time and hours, and he comes up with the goods. Fishing pioneer with some great achievements to his name, so good luck with the hunt and look forward to some stories and pics.

Makos new boat (hopefully)
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Tue, 2009-03-17 07:28There was this man named MAKO MAGIC
He had this boat he thaught was a classic
Then one day he decided he wanted a bit more
So he went out looking and found this COMMODORE
He soon found out there was a bit of trouble
It needed a new name and on the double
There was a suggestion to leave it just blank
So nothing could be seen right down the flank
As there was one who wanted to call it BLAKE
But when you looked it seemed a bit fake
There would be a problem with calling it STEALTH
Because it might be promoting its wealth
But when it comes down to it he is a big wisher
He was thinking along the lines of BILLFISHER
BLACK MAGIC was the call from a bloke named Paul
AS Mat took a look and said it was a good call
Bazza,Shazzam,Striped or Smoked
When it happens he will be stoked

Yellow box squid v Blue box squid for bait
Submitted by Andy Mac on Mon, 2009-03-16 12:44Having used these new yellow boxed squid for the last few trips, I am desperate for the blue box variety to land on our shelves again.
The yellow boxed ones are way to big to use whole, and the carapaces are filled with vile brown muck. We found that the only way to use was to open the carapace up by slicing lengthways, scrape all the crap ot then cut the carapace up into large skinny triangles. That way they suited the two hook snells a bit better and we could make mulie squid sandwiches, that seemed to work ok.
The heads were obvioulsy a good size for a 10/0 hook, but some we had to slice in half as well.
Anyone else hate the yellow box variety?
Anyone know where the blue boxed ones are being sold still?

Ill prepared boaties
Submitted by thebear on Mon, 2009-03-16 10:01The weather was great on Sunday just gone (15/3/09) and me mate Bob and I decided to go out to the west end for a troll. We took off from CPBA at around 8 ish. About half way out this what looked like an old penguin type cruiser sped past us toward rotto which really didn't bother us but for the fact that they broke down a few hundred meters in front of us ( we found this out because they waved for our assistance).
Now before we go any further I will help anyone in need of assistance any time regardless. But what I witnessed on this day is beyond it.
We saddled up beside them and asked them what the problem was and the man on board said that the engine just stopped. Now there were two couples on board upper middle class types.
I asked if their radio was working and he said that it wasnt as his arial had been broken. I said that I would radio in for him and request sea rescue to give them a tow in as I was a bit too small to do this.
They flattely refused this request (why?? Ill tell ya soon) they went on to say that they will look at the motor and try to fire it up shortly. I said that if you get it going you should head back home as I wold not trust this not to happen again today. Wesaid that we would hang around in the vicinity for the next 20 or minutes just in case.
Any way they did eventually get it going and guess what... they went further out to sea for about 200 metres until their boat broke down again.
They waved us over and we went to see them again. My deckie was getting a bit frustrated at the fact that they continued out to sea, and asked the question
1 Do you have a skippers ticket? No real answer.
2 Do you have an EPIRB? a half backed yes
3 why are you still pursuing out to sea when clearly you are not capable?? no answer
They again refused us to call it in.
What we did find out is that they ran out of oil. They asked us if that was the cause of the motor stopping and could we give them some.
I had none to give otherwise i would . What I can say is that they had no idea what they were doing out there. they had no radio and I guarantee that they had no EPIRB or skippers ticket.
When they got their boat going they wuld run it until it over heated and stopped and wait to cool and start again.
All in all we lost 3/4 hour of our time for a bunch of idiots.
BTW the water police were out checking all water craft on Sunday. Where were they when these idiots were around. To make matters worse I didnt write down their number to give to the police.
After that a good day was had on the water.

OUR SITE
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Mon, 2009-03-16 07:28There is a site for us all to see
Our neighbors our friends even you and me
Putting up stories and pics to share
For some its a bit too much to bare
Some people get a little bit jelous
As others tend to be get a little bit zealous
We see photos and stories from a far
You can get on this site wherever you are
From over east or over seas
This site is here and aims to please
You can access this site from north to south
Its even better than word of mouth
We get insight of rigs and tips
Even read about all the fishing trips
You can get to meet a lot of people
And its not in a church with a steeple
Someof us treat it as a wholy shrine
Because this site is yours and mine
We sit in front of a computer for hours on end
Until you think youve gone around the bend
You see the stories of ones that got away
To swim off and play on another day
You see pics of whiting and the big gt
From marlin and sailfish from the deep blue sea
People fish from land or boat
We put up these photos just to gloat
You see the storys from a far
Most of these places you can get to by car
Some of these you need a four by four
But when you get there you may be in awe
It doesnt matter how old or young
The aim of this game is nothing but fun
Some of the stories can get a bit long in the tooth
But these will be speaking the truth
Some of you guys on here may feel a bit henpecked
But thats because you spend your time here on FISHWRECKED

MONDAY MORNING
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Mon, 2009-03-16 05:31Waking up early on a monday morning
With sleep on my mind and still a yawning
Logging on to check out the weather
You could have knocked me down with a feather
Having the perfect day to go out fishing
But with other plans i could only be wishing
As i have an appointment with the dentist chair
All i could think was this is just not fair
Then i realised i was a bit of a jerk
If i wasnt there i would be at work
With only six weeks untill my hollidays
Spending my time in so many ways
Fishing and diving or whatever takes my pleasure
There will be something to do whatever the weather
As the sun was not yet in the sky
With all the sleep still in my eye
Sitting down with these thaughts in my head
I just got up and went straight back to bed

Traveling lables for your fish e.g exmouth to perth
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2009-03-15 16:41Last year we were pulled over and checked by fisheries on our way back from exmouth but every year we have always labled our catch including if full fillet or half fillet is in the bag . Any way to cut along story short they we so impressed with our lables they kept a sample to show people (LOL). It saved us near on 11/2 hours as they did not need to pull all our catch out they could estamate the weight .
Any ways just thought i would share them with you all if you require a template for avery lables just pm me.
Date /04/09 full or half Fillet
Name Sandy Nathan Russ Brenden
RedThroat Spangle Red Emperor Ranken or Estuary Cod Coral Trout Mackerel Shark Tuna GT Cobia Groper
All you need to do is put a ring around the species and name plus add the date if your species is not on the lable there is room to write it on.
Russ & Sandy

Free trip to Exmouth
Submitted by Lucky Tim on Sat, 2009-03-14 21:05Hi all
I'm lucky enough to be spending a few months in Exmouth from the start of April. The trouble is I'm going to be towing my caravan up but want the boat up there too. I've come up with 3 possible solutions:
1. Does anyone own/ work for/know a truck company who does the run I can throw the boat on? It doesn't even have to be to Exmouth. I can come to Carnarvon etc to pick up.
2. If anyone's driving up in late March/ early April (ie Gamex) and not towing a boat, I'll chuck a few hundred bucks their way for fuel if they tow mine. It's a 15' fibreglass centre console with a single axle trailer. Tows really easily with a low profile.
3. Tow the van up, turn around and come back for the boat. Not my preferred solution but might be my only option.
Can anyone help? If you know someone heading up or someone at a truck company it'd be a huge help.
Thanks
Tim

For sale: nagging wife, very high maintenance
Submitted by Colin Hay on Fri, 2009-03-13 13:54Courtesy of the ABC
A British man fed up with his wife's complaints has advertised her for sale - and received a number of offers.
"Nagging Wife. No Tax, No MOT (ministry of transport test). Very high maintenance - some rust," wrote Gary Bates, 38, in a small ad in British classifieds magazine Trade-It, more usually used to buy and sell cars or household goods.
Mr Bates, a self-employed builder from Gloucestershire, south-west England, snapped after his wife Donna got on his nerves while she was watching television and decided to place the ad as a joke.
"She was nagging me for doing something small, while she was watching some rubbish on TV," he said.
"So I just thought I'd put an ad in to get rid of her.
"I didn't think anyone would ring up, but I've had at least nine or 10 people calling about her. It's gone mad.
"There was no-one I knew - just people asking, 'Is she still available?'"
The couple only married last year, and Mr Bates said his 40-year-old wife - whom he advertised in the magazine's Free to Collect section, along with some of his fishing tackle - initially gave him "a bit of an ear-bashing".
But he said: "She's seen the funny side of it now though."

Submitted by Albee Mangles on Wed, 2009-03-11 20:274 Weeks ago i was made redundant, no warning, no notice, half way through the morning i got the call, and all over... This is from a job where i was in a "secure" position, supposedly.
I've never been unemployed, had to do my first resume, now it's been 4 weeks, and it feels like 6 months.
I now i'm not alone, and to all those out there like me, hang in there. It seriously sucks to be in this position......
p.s. If anyone is looking for someone, for anything, i'm an ex-Boilermaker/Welder, now Workshop/Production Manager.
