ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED
Submitted by Almopickle on Fri, 2009-04-24 18:42Hey everybody, I am wondering if anybody has any help for me. I am currently down in Bunbury, WA sailing. The middle of next month i am leaving for Exmouth by sail, i have two weeks to make my way up there stopping at various places on the way, inclusing Coral Bay, Shark Bay and the Abrollhas Islands I am new to this sea fishing, being a Pom i usually fish for Carp. Any help would be really good, for example: What fishing takle should i use (rod, reel, line etc), Any suggerstions for methods, what lures work well and any other advice you can help me with.
We will be sailing approx 10 miles off shore at a speed of anywhere between 4/7 knots but seem to average about 5 knots.

Boom time for whale shark lovers
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2009-04-24 09:58Dive operators along the Gascoyne coast are enjoying a boom in whale shark encounters, with tourists being treated to daily sightings of the usually elusive giants. The region’s sharks have arrived earlier than usual and in big numbers.
Exmouth’s Ocean Eco Adventures co-owner Marnie Hunt said sightings had rarely been so reliable. “Usually one shark is a bonus but we have been getting multiple sharks — up to three or four a day,” she said.
“All the conditions have just been really good — clear days, good visibility and lots of whale sharks.”
The sharks typically congregate to feed around Ningaloo Reef. The biggest species in the world, whale sharks are beloved by divers because they feed only on plankton and have even been documented “playing” with humans.
Conservationists hope the species, officially listed as vulnerable, are now receiving protection from fishing. Since 1998, several countries including India, the Philippines and Taiwan, have banned the fishing and sale of whale sharks. MICHAEL HOPKIN

Rod storage?
Submitted by Roger Knife on Fri, 2009-04-24 02:40Hey guys
Just built meself a conservatory and managed to get a small pitch roofed brick shed on the side. In final stages now and just wondered if anyone has any smart ideas for storing rods and reels. Thought about hanging rods from the rafters, or standing up against a wall. Just wondered if anyone has any other suggestions.
Cheers guys

Toll roads for WA
Submitted by saltatrix on Wed, 2009-04-22 21:23*Warning - bitch session*
Today I read in the West some government "think tank consultant" has come up with the concept that toll roads should be introduced in Western Australia.
Apparently its to encourage the usage of public transport in Western Australia.
Where in the bloody hell do they get these idiots from?
For starters, the state government might wish to get the rail infrastructure car parks big enough so people dont have to drive 3 stations to get a spot so they use it more. There simply isnt enough carraiges or parking f#%#$^^t!
This is simply another state tax on top of the dramatically rising boat regos etc.
The rate the family expendable income is being depreciated in this country is disgusting.
By the way think f@$#@#$@$ "flunk tank" we do buy petrol with tax on tax.
I thought the State Labour government was bad. The Liberal government is turning out be a bunch of money grabbing whores too.
When the GST was introduced states taxes were meant to be dropped so the state government takes the GST handed to them and puts up every licence and utility they can just for the pig trough.
So potentially you will pay a road toll of $10 before you get to the boat ramp money box.
If family incomes keep depreciating at the current rate with rising state services there wont be an economy because you have all of it.
Get some bigger train station car parks and some carraiges and people might actually manage to fit in one of them.
Another money grab by the state!. Flunk tank idiot!

Eating Fish Guts - delicious!!
Submitted by Ewan on Tue, 2009-04-21 17:09My whole life flashed before my eyes a couple of weekends ago when a mate of mine introduced me to eating roe and liver of fish.
I have held roe so big and fat that it fit into two hands, only to throw it over the side, or to the thankful seagulls, with the rest of the guts. I knew people ate it but had just never crossed the line. Didnt even know you could eat liver.
NEVER AGAIN!!
It was so incredibly delicious, so much tastier than the flesh (we were eating nannygai) - I was stunned, and spent a few teary moments reflecting on all of the goodness I had neglected until now.
We had it just egg-and-breadcrumbed, and it was unreal. How else do you cook it? Any other bits worth eating?
Anyone know if it might be bad to eat liver from larger predatory fish? i.e. heavy metal or toxin accumulations...? I plan to gorge myself on it this Exmouth trip...
Cheers! any thoughts?

Smoking fish
Submitted by chevin on Mon, 2009-04-20 08:48Does anyone here have any experience in soaking fish in brine prior to cold smoking it? I would be grateful for any advice on the matter. In the past I have salted it but sometimes the finished product is a little too salty and I think that brine might be a better way to go. How to know when the process is complete is of particular interest to me.

small toolkit for car
Submitted by HuggyB on Sun, 2009-04-19 15:05Just going to put together a small toolkit for the trip to Exmouth. Without going way over the top, what do others carry in the way of a small toolkit for general repairs on long trips?
I'm not interested in spare hoses, fanbelts, oil, grease or the like - just basic tools I should have (and possibly others making the trek to Exmouth next week).

Saw the new Lowrance HDS
Submitted by Decella on Thu, 2009-04-16 21:08I went down to chivers today and saw the new HDS sounder combo. Unfortunatley the map is not yet compadible with the unit. Be-aware but as the salesman told me that the platinum card is the only chart to give you "Turbo view". I like the lowrance gps's but prefer furuno sounders. But this unit in demo mode is f#@$%&g fernomanal. It looks like Google earth when looking at the ocean.
