How do you rig up for spinning lures?
Submitted by Redbucket on Sat, 2013-06-01 10:11was spinning metal lures for tailor yesterday and had a few bust offs. Started 25lb leader with loop knot. Then 60lb with Egg clip. Straightened the egg clip. No more twisties In tackle box. Mate suggested swivel to split ring then lure which I've done when trawling. Wondering what other people use / do?

Help on info for my outboard 150hp mariner EFI 2 stroke
Submitted by n robb on Fri, 2013-05-31 22:31G'day
i brought myself a Chivers meridian 5.8.2008 with a 150hp 2stroke mariner 2008 outboard 200hrs old. I live in Derby and found the boat uses ALOT of fuel, about 55l an hour. I'm hoping this is not right?
It's a pretty big issue not only because of the money side of things, but because the fishing up here is so remote and most of the boating is 2-4 hours one way.
Any info would be appreciated, or just being pointed in the right direction.
Cheers

boat sank off exmouth in wild storm on 19 may
Submitted by anextremecrowd on Fri, 2013-05-31 16:08yeah, as many have heard, I lost my boat on the night of the sunday, a long story so i wont go into it
we were camped out at Long Island, weather was pretty ordinary the week leading up to the event,
however we had a glass off day on the sunday 19th, fished the whole day, was even planning a night fish,
all that changed, when the weather changed, within 30 minutes, she was blowing 15knts, then 20 then a constant 25
wind changed direction, and the lee side of the island was no longer the lee side, wind picked up
at it s peak to 40 knots with wind gusts to 60, anchor didn't hold, and drifted away, refound new ground, and held fast
for around 7 hours, but not long enough to survice till the morning and had turned over
no damage to any part of boat, just would have copped some waves over side at some point,
weather turned extreme, no idea what the swell got to that night, but is was big,
Been an experienced boatie for well over 30 years, and knew the area and the safe anchor spots on the island really well
but given the lack of any weather forecast change, could never have anticipated what we experienced in the end,
By the sounds of some of the recent posts by some of you, there were a number of boats in trouble and gear lost
all around the exmouth region, I think we faired the worst, The guys that left the island that were heading to Broome
that got slaughtered several nights earlier, just wanted to let u know, this as well, as I know u lost a heap of gear
in that storm cell 6 days earlier.
Many thanks to Exmouth Sea Rescue who came out and got us and to teh group of 5 elderely guys on the island
who helped us as well. I got to say thanks to Fremantle Sea Rescue as well, who helped co-ordinate the initial action,
Have allways had a great respect for the sea and was well prepared, but she couldnt stand up to those winds
and conditions

oldie, biggest pink
Submitted by little johnny on Thu, 2013-05-30 21:59i have ever caught ..sulphar bay 12 years ago. it went a smidge under 16.3 kg. my eldest in pic was in grade 6 primary, (couldnt pick it up) had a nose like a pigmy elephant. back then i thought record was 16.7. so i didnt bother getting weighed on registered scales. i believe old reg still has state record caught off malibu dive wreck (unsure). mine tasted like crap. my fault left it frozen for 5 months, didnt have the heart to cut it up, i even bought new freezer to keep it in, (sad) ,

We all love catching them but...
Submitted by sammo123 on Thu, 2013-05-30 19:18Dont we all love catching salmon, just admit it. Ive caught a few myself. I know everything beside the bait to use, the lures to use and techniques. I always over exagerate and use 28kg line with a 15kg leader + 3 ganged hooks with a pillie on the end, I caught a few with that rig but i got a feeling that there is something much better in the market that i could use to catch double my catch. i am mainly focused on what techniques to use but would also like to know the lures and baits to use. Will anyone help?

Submitted by jakjackson on Thu, 2013-05-30 16:07I have a yammy 2t 99 model On a 5.44m 5 ml Ali centre console. I am to looking at an upgrade although not willing to spend to much. Have looked at merc 115 saltwater approx. 390 hrs with controls, gauges $4000, mariner 115 2005 model, controls, gauges $4000. As the hull is getting of age don't want to spend to much. Looking at reliability as well as if possible fuel saving.
Hoping to upgrade to a whole newer package in approx. 5 yrs. Also looked into Tohatsu, not to keen.
Any help would be appreciated.

Coral Bay 2013
Submitted by sparrow on Wed, 2013-05-29 17:39So after a long wait we headed out from Perth 4am on the 10th of May ready for our 2 week trip to Coral Bay with high hopes. It was a smooth trip up, unpacked fast and rigged up the gear ready for fishing.
Woke up at sparrows(as usual) to find the wind blowing hard, so for the next 2 days went for some fun an Woppa Creek near Exmouth airport for some Jacks and muddies. We got a few crabs and hordes of fish (all released) but after a few days of that we were chomping at the bit to get on deck!
Day 3 and 4 were still blowing 20-25kts Easterlys but couldn't wait any longer so day 3 we just out the North Passage at lunch, but not past the reef. Had some fun on spangles but not much more.
Day 5 a little less windy (12-18kts) we got a couple of Kts out to a spot we seem to catch only Reds at, and the rare occasion some huge Cods. We picked up 2 Reds there and some Robinson, rankin and thing like sweetlip ect on another spot not far from it. Reasonable for half a day on the water
Day 6 the wind eased off enough for us to get a little further out where we picked up 5 average Reds (4-6kg), a few Ranking to 10kg a few Baldies, and other things like cobia and pickers. so far we had avoided the sharks!
Day 7 was great weather so we were headed to a spot we have 20kts out when on the way we found a nice flare up so had a go on it. drifted over the spot 4 times and each time one of us caught a Red and 2 of us would get a Rankin, except 1 time a double header of Reds came up (only kept rankin if they were in bad shape to release). After that the sharks moved in so it was time to leave.
Day 8 back to the crap windy weather so went to a spot south not far behind the reef where we got a few rankin and a Red, along with 2 Spanish Maks 20kgs on floating gardies. Sharks in again and wind picking up so early day again.
Day 9 saw a big swell and wind up so went to a spot only a few kts from the reef and the lines were bouncing 4 meters with the swell so a bit hard to catch a fish! Picked up 3 Spainsh Maks trolling and called it early again.
Day 10 was still not great so just tried trolling and both 3 Spanish Maks and a Couple of Yellowfin tuna in the 20-30m mark behind the reef.
Day 11 still windy so tried trolling for game fish with no luck. Pulled into a spot north of Batemans Bay and anchored up an a spot that looked awesome for a bit of fun....not even a bite, burley and all. Decided to call it a day when low and behold the sarca was stuck like shit to a blanket! Tried to drive the boat around and with a 3 meter swell almost drove to the bottom at one point. In the end had to cut the rope. Top day out...no fish and an anchor plus 30m rope gone!
Day 12 we tried a few spots of ours and could see the fish there but were just not biting. Lucky for us some friends arrived the day before and both their boats were almost bagged out on Reds so we went over and proceeded to do the same.
Day 13 our last day on the water(half day) so we went to a few spots about 5kts out and picked up a couple of reds and rankin, a cracker baldie to 5.5kg, and a few other random fish.
Unfortunately we didn't take a lot of photos, more vids but will post what we did take.
Day 14 and on the way home. 50km north of Carnarvon broke hard for a big roo and broke the winch post off sending the bow spit into the boot of the new 200 series. 4 hours later we managed to get it off the cars towball and onto a tilt tray. It was taken to Carnarvon where is still sits but thankfully will be on a truck tomorrow thanks to Club Marine FINALLY agreeing to foot the bill for freight.

Solar Energy Suppliers
Submitted by Poppy on Wed, 2013-05-29 12:32This post is not fish related, but here goes. My wife and I are moving N.O.R. next week and want to install solar panels. We have heard of a few dodgy companies out there and wonder if anyone can recommend a reliable one to deal with. Have heard nothing but bad reviews re. True Value Solar and information I got from Modern turned out to be absolute rubbish. Has anyone dealt with Eurosolar? I spoke to a rep. yesterday and he definitely did not go the hard sell. Price sounds good as well. Any information will be very much appreciated.
Cheers
