Monster mesh max advice
Submitted by ricey on Thu, 2013-05-23 17:23Looking for a bottom bouncing rod to match a talica 12 with pe 6 boat braid fishing 16 or even more oz lead in 80m. I usually fish talica 8 pe 4, but want heavier set up for poor conditions needing more lead or stopping monsters quicker.
i was thinking pe 5-6 daiwa demon blood, but also picked up the monster mesh max mxc531-300 which is a 5ft 3inch 300g max rod. I think I preferred the monster mesh and it was over $100 cheaper. I liked the shorter length, keen on five to five and a half foot.
Any feedback on the rod or any other idea or suggestions or even rods you want to offload?
cheers

Bad experience with Popular brand Leader
Submitted by parksey on Thu, 2013-05-23 16:09G'day all,
Wanted to share a bad experience I had with a popular leader line I purchased.
short story is bought line tied knot and noticed small knicks in line . I pulled one of the knick and the line shredded.
I Emailed manufacturer and they requested the line back which cost me 12 bucks, I received 2 replacements and two lollies!!! (WTF????)
I though I would let them know I was a bit anoyed and I would have liked the 12 buck back not two lollies. They did not even supply and reply or explanation about the line, so I emailed and got to the head man. They basically shrugged me off!!!
Check out the pictures I hadnt even finished the knot when I noticed the problem!!!

Saturday morning tailor fish
Submitted by tadpole on Wed, 2013-05-22 23:00Hey guys, heading out for a tailor fish early on Saturday morning, going to be using mulies for bait with one sitting on the bottom while baitcasting on another rod, just wondering what would be the best locations to look at trying? Going to be completely landbased. Was looking at heading up to Trigg but am not too familiar with the reef there and if I'm rocking up before first light, so don't want to take any unnecessary risks. What groins would be worth a try? Was looking at the Dutch Inn groin just south of Cottesloe as well

Sounder question
Submitted by Griffo84 on Wed, 2013-05-22 22:48G'day everyone,
Ive recently been doing a bit of research on interpeting my lowrance HDS sounder and I've read conflicting information in regards to the difference between using 50kHz and 200kHz. Would I be correct in saying you would use 200kHz in shallower water say up to 100m? Also the angle of the echo sound cone at 200kHz is less than 50kHz?
From what I can gather it appears we should use 200kHz most of the time (unless you're going to fish serious deep water off Exmouth for example).
Would be greatly appreciated if anyone can share their knowledge on this subject.
Cheers
Ben

First Pinky
Submitted by lawndered on Wed, 2013-05-22 16:34Got my first Pinky today, was a totally unexpected catch, was thinky maybe a Kingy today. Also a nice Gummy and my first Sampson, the Sambo went back. Had a few strong runs but in quite shallow water and was busted of> still it was nice to open my snapper account.
I usually have my two girls tag along Ages 7 & 12 which really restrict our fishing. So the last few weeks the decky(my Wife) and I have chosen to get out on a nice weekday if work isn't to busy and the day looks promising. Have to drop the kids at school and back before they get out but still better than working.

Jurien Bay - Jig or bait?
Submitted by dant on Wed, 2013-05-22 11:56Gday All,
Looks like we might be heading up to a mates holiday house in Jurien over the long wk end, will be taking the tub up there - it will be my first time up there but just reading some threads looks like there is plenty of good ground around Jurien, its just a matter of having a look around on the sounder.
What do you think will work more effective - baits or Jigs?
Thanks again any help is appreciated.
Cheers Dan

Crabbing In May - is it worth it?
Submitted by Oracle on Tue, 2013-05-21 16:05Looking at heading into the Cockburn sound for some squid over the week but never been crabbing this time of year. Is it worth it? I assume they would be in deeper water if they are there? Any particualr time seeing it's cooler. Do you come out during the day rather than dusk for food?
Any info would be appreciated

Dunsborough - Late May
Submitted by elliotbirch on Tue, 2013-05-21 15:17Hey guys,
I'm heading down to Dunsborough for this weekend coming and so far the weather forecasts (wind and sun) are looking pretty good so I'm planning on taking my dinghy down with me. Wont have heaps of time to go fishing, probably only a couple of two/three hour sessions. Was mainly going to target squid and whiting. I know the whiting are always there and I've got thousands in the bay down there before, but have never really targeted squid in Duns before. I am planning on having a few different squid jigs on board and drifting them through the moorings near the Quindalup finger jetty and hopefully getting a few for a feed. Any info on whether they are in numbers down there at the moment would be much appreciated, cheers!!

Bunbury/Busso artificial reefs community forum
Submitted by Versus on Tue, 2013-05-21 10:41This was posted in another thread but I think the message was missed amongst other arguments about the reefs. If everyone would actually like to know some info on the entire process and decisions that went into the reefs, then get along to it. This is how your licence fees are being spent, so get amongst it.
As posted by Squidder:
Recfishwest and the Department of Fisheries will be holding a free community forum on the artificial reefs in Bunbury on Wed 29th May at the Lord Forrest Hotel, and in Busselton on Thurs 30th May at the Esplanade Hotel. Everyone is welcome.
I was hoping that you might all be able to plug it on the fishing forums so that we can get a good crowd down there. Which is what I'm doing.
Mark Pagano will be discussing the entire process from the study tour of South Korea to their placement in Geographe Bay. Paul Lewis is a fisheries researcher who will be discussing the monitoring programs and Andrew Rowland will be filling everyone in on the citizen science component of the project, for which members of the public will be able to participate.
Bunbury Lord Forrest Hotel Wednesday 29th 6.30pm
Busselton Esplanade Hotel Thursday 30th 6.30pm

Exmouth - Turtle Creek/Homestead Station fishing and camping
Submitted by A-SALT-WEAPON on Tue, 2013-05-21 06:51Hi all,
We have permission to fish off Homestead Station (just south of Exmouth) around what is called Turtle Creek but having never been, I'm after some information please.
Has anyone been to this area fishing and if so what is it like, and just as importantly, what is the camping like. I know there is nothing there and its just bush camping, but I'd like to know what the environment is like...ie are there low trees, barron etc.
There seems to be two main creeks (more like mangrow inlets), one to the north of the Homestead and one directly East. We know access appears to be easier to the East, but having not been to that area, I would like some feedback on which one is considered the best (fishing and camping) and some info on what the area is like.
Thanks, any feedback would be appreciated.

Best fish you've ever caught at the busselton jetty?
Submitted by TunaFishin48 on Mon, 2013-05-20 22:01I been fishing the busselton jetty for nearly 1 and a half years...not as much as the older locals but haha. But I was just wondering if any of you locals have caught anything at the jetty that was just out of the ordinary like a queenfish or a spaniar! Because my best at the jetty would probably a striped tuna which weighed 11kg.
cheers Daniel :)
