Joining braid of different strengths?
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Tue, 2011-07-05 13:13I've got about 100m of pe8 left and about the same of pe6 on some spools out the back, which I could just join onto some of my other reels but they are pretty full at the moment. I've got a new reel to trial and figure I might try and join these two braids to use them rather than let them sit in my shed and deteriorate. I guess my question is, should I go the mono backing, the 6 and then the 8, or the 8 and then the 6, does it make any difference in feeling bites or any other issues? I'm thinking I go the mono, 6, then 8 and just see how it goes. I could just fork out for some new braid but would prefer to try and use some of this leftover stuff to get value for money.

Safe or crazy?
Submitted by tailor marc on Tue, 2011-07-05 10:33Hi guys,
Just got back from Karratha fishing trip. One thing i want to know is..
We were fishing the back of legende Island..
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Without fail every cast resulted in shark hook ups, mako's ,spinners, bronzies, tigers, reef sharks. We tryed our best to get red throat up as quick as and had up to 4 BIG sharks fighting each other for it. One landed on the back of the boat. We only stayed here becuse it was the only place shelterd enough.
The next thing shocked me. Some guys rolled up next to us, got into wetsuits and two of the four hopped in the water. Now these sharks wernt just hungry, they were in a frenzie and they were all over 6ft, one would of gone 10ft easy.
They didnt have a dive flag, we told them of how many sharks were there but they didnt care.
Im not to clued up with diving but wouldnt this be almost suicide?

Fish Parasites Beware
Submitted by aaasnapper on Tue, 2011-07-05 10:04
I have read about these things before, but thought they were a bit of a wives tale. Obviously its true. It was not written in the article however, I read previously it only can be picked up by humans if the fished is not cooked.

selling your catch
Submitted by grayzeee on Mon, 2011-07-04 22:06just a question to find out weather , if you've bought and paid for the RFBL , you think you should be allowed to sell your catch.
following on from the other thread where a lot of fisho's don't like fish , they could get something back for their day out.

27meg & VHF
Submitted by fisherking on Mon, 2011-07-04 13:08Do you need a 27meg if you have a VHF?
I ask because I was looking for a hand held 27meg & have been told they do not exist, however you can quite easily buy a hand held VHF.
Thanks.

catching cobbler
Submitted by rockoe_ on Sun, 2011-07-03 21:39i've been lazy all weekend so being a nice night i thought i might try my luck at my local jetty for some squid. After about an hour or so of casting jigs around and no sign of any squid,i decided it was time to call it a night. On my way back up the boat ramp i was looking to see what fish were in the water and then i couldnt believe my eyes.7 big fat cobbler all sitting about 1m from the shore and no gidgee ,all i could do was laugh.thats what i get for not being prepeared i guess.
has any had much luck catching them on rod and reel? i've only ever speared them so any advice would be much appreciated
i thought i may aswell i'd add a photo of my pb cobbler i got a little while back it went 62cm :)

Noosa fishing
Submitted by turts on Sun, 2011-07-03 12:34hi guys visiting sister in brisbane end aug/start sept
staying in noosa for 5 days and might be able to sneak on board a charter one of the days
does anyone have any experience in fishing here or recommend any charters? had a look online but really dont know which ones to trust.
might not be the best time of year compared to warmer months so if its really not worth it im happy to give it a miss.
being from south oz pretty blessed with 10kg reds, SBT and monster kgw but looking for something different more tropical species or those i havent encountered yet ie. mackeral, kingfish, ambers, cobia
some of teh charters look like they catch 2-3kg snapper and perch so really not keen on that.
would prefer lure/plastic fishing and love my light gear.
cheers

Gnaraloo boat launching facilites
Submitted by r.gates on Sat, 2011-07-02 11:54Hi guys
Later this month, my son and his mates are heading up to Gnaraloo for a week.
I've checked out their website and it mentions a boat ramp, but I can't find any other details about it. Is it just beach launching, and if so, what's the biggest boat you could launch from there?
He's got a 2007 Nissan Navara and he's only taking the 4m runabout, but we may venture up there later on in the year with the bigger boat (590 Trailblazer). Can I launch this one from there???
I'm guessing that the fishing is pretty good up there and it seems that you don't have to go too far out for a feed.
Any comments about the place in general and the accommodation would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
regards
rusty...

Kalbarri's new wharf now in operation
Submitted by bod on Sat, 2011-07-02 11:47Kalbarri's fishing and charter boat industry now have access to the town's new $2.1 million land-backed wharf.
Department of Transport (DoT) General Manager of Coastal Infrastructure Steve Jenkins said the new wharf would significantly improve efficiency and safety at the Kalbarri Maritime Facility.
"Local fishing fleet operators can now directly load and unload; avoiding double handling of bait and fishing catches and providing more space on the existing jetty for other operators including those in the charter and tourism industries," Mr Jenkins said.
Contractors, WA company Yarnell Pty Ltd, completed the majority of work on the project this week after substantial rains and flooding of the Murchison River delayed the project over the summer period.
Mr Jenkins said users had been given immediate access to the facility despite some outstanding electrical work on the service pillars on the wharf and minor additions which will be completed over the next few weeks.
The completion of the new purpose built facility, located between the existing fisherman's jetty and boat pens on the Murchison River, is the result of close consultation with the local community.
Mr Jenkins said the Kalbarri Maritime Advisory Group which includes representatives from the Shire of Northampton, Mid West Development Commission, fishing and charter industries, recreational boating community, DoT and the Kalbarri community had been involved in the project since its inception more than four years ago.
"Throughout the planning, design and construction phase feedback from the group has been valuable and the project could not have proceeded without this support," Mr Jenkins said.
An extension of the facility's existing service jetty in 1998 had failed to adequately address access issues and resulted in operating restrictions being imposed after occupational health and safety concerns were raised.
Mr Jenkins said the project delivered a return to long term users of the facility.
"As facility manager, DoT contributed the majority of the funding having accumulated approximately $800,000 for the project from user fees," Mr Jenkins said.
"In addition, the Kalbarri Fishermen's Association contributed $140,000 and the Mid West Development Commission allocated $229,000 to the cost while the Shire of Northampton will make an in kind contribution."
