Anybody fish Yesterday?

Did anybody head out for a fish yesterday? Mandurah was like glass all day, I surfed in the morning then fished a number of spots in the arvo, only caught some herring on a little rapala HB. Saw 2 guys with a solid Dusky Morowong in their bucket, poor bastards thought it was a queen snapper, think they might get a surprise at the dinner table. Maybe they are members on here? How did everyone else go?

lures

hi all i have these lures but dont know if i can use them from beach and how to use them. what fish can i hope to catch from beach using these lures. thanks

Exmouth tackle box must haves

Tafe finishes for me in a week and a half with STCW95 for the last 6 days.  I am heading up to Exmouth as a Kayak Coastal - Sit on Top Guide for approximately 3 weeks work experience around school holidays followed by a weeks fishing holiday.

I am taking the 4wd, camping gear, fibreglass 14' dinghy 25hp, a 15kg mono trolling outfit, 50lbs sunline fin nor offshore 30l on a berkley sea tec 15-37kg rod for bottom bouncing if the going gets tough, 20 lbs sunline on a shimano symetre 4000 for use on a sp/jig rod, yet to be bought and a 8-9' beach casting rod, yet to be bought.

I am planning to scout territory while kayaking and beach/boat fish in my time off/after the work experience.

What is your must have lures/sp/popper/stickbait/jig must haves for Exmouth? Any suggestions for good rods on the cheap side would be appreciated also.

fads

is there a reason (other than ground tackle /rope being too small and deteriorating) that the fads cant be left out all year round and would there be fish on them in the winter months???

Handling Billfish - How to improve...

Hi Crew,

I thought we might be able to get an educational piece going to try and help the new guys to billfishing with some tips and techniques on how to handle billfish to best ensure their survival.  I'm thinking along the lines of taking photos with the fish alongside the boat rather than dragging them out of the water etc and how to make your first marlin/sail memorable whilst getting that satisfying feeling knowing it has its best chance to swim away freely.

Cheers,

Adam

Can I connect a Hummingbird 785c to a PC?

Hi Guys

Was wondering if it was possible to connect a Hummingbird 785c to a PC? Ive done a bit of net searching and it seems that some of them can, using the hummingbirdpc porgram. but cant find out

a) if the 785 model does?

and

b) if so, what cables etc d I need? Ive seen a couple on amazon etc but they have the old school computer plugs with the screws, which my laptop doenst have...?

The main reson I want this is to save the hassle of writing down all my spots for safekeeping and having to go through them all to time to keep the list updated...

Any ideas please guys?

Della

Trying to find bream

So I have been out a few times in the past weeks trying to hook some bream but no luck so far, I have been fishing around Guildford/ashfield area using peeled prawns and bloodies, any advice would be appreciated :)

today a window for boat fishing?

Am I seeing things or dreaming?

Today seems to be a day for chucking the boat in the ocean and wetting a line.

Anybody going?

Best Sounder

I am in the process of getting my 2301 Seaswirl W/A from the US but it has a dodgy sounder in it at the moment. What would be the best sounder for the Pilbara/Exmouth fishing for around $3000. I was looking at the Lowrance HDS10 possibly with the Structure Scan. Any ideas?

Fishing Samoa??

Might be travelling to samoa in september and im just after some info on reputable charter operators and also what the fishing in general is like there?

my boat build so far for all who are interested

building a boat 101

p.s I have never done this before and can see why now what alot of work but here we go

p.p.s im no welder either just somebody giving it a go

and a big thanks to mum and dad for use of their house and dad for all his help

first few pics laying out 2 of the 5x 9m x 2.2m sheets of ally 2x5mm 2x 4mm 1x3mm all i can say is you need good m8s you can call on to help just marking out and cutting two days and the shapes dont look like a boat trust me this plan is a 7.3 jackman hull loa 8.5 and 2.8m wide at the widest point

ok boring stuff out the way and sore knees, ears and great neigbours as cutting this stuff with a killer blade on a circular saw then using a wood plane to match up the panels makes alot of noise lets Start welding

the bottom sheet welded together

starting to weld the ribs in a bit of a job for the first time but with a litte help fron a porta power and a few welds here and there it all comes together

now all rib tacked in have to pull hull up hard all along so it touches all the way bit hard at the fort of boat where the boat curves but good old block and tackle comes in handy as well as some jacks its amazing how it starts to take shape

stringers what a pain in the a## lese two have to be straight and welded flat to the floor sheets all along keeping the hull level with a water level this nearly broke me so close to the start as i welded 3 bays down then leveled it to find it twisted  to have to cut them all out again

after this had about 3 months off middle of summer and gutted.

Went to coral bay in may watching all these big boats bore past me was all the motivation i needed got back and got back into it again solved the problem and welded it out on my day off work

then comes the chines sides and foredeck call on those m8s again p.s the 5mm sheets weighed 280kg each so this was a 6 person job plus me tacking

got the sides on tacked the transom and all the support for the outboard in now its time to get it out of under the patio hmmm its bigger than i thought the car port is 2650mm damn this is 2700mm wide oh well weld some lugs on the inside and block and tackle it in to fit just got the 50mm i needed

now its out time to turn it over called a few crane guys but seemed all too hard m8s, where would you be without them forklift will do it

only can try after waiting a month and getting nowhere i was getting desperate and hey it worked well

now its over more grinding and welding the bottom

time to turn back over

time for a trailer to move this thing and finish second hand will do and will lock the boat in

once on trailer i could start the floor tanks cab and finish the transom

460l fuel damn that will hurt to fill up and still havent this is my m8 he is 6 ft tall give some idea of size of project

getting close now and hot again its getting close to summer again man this alloy gets hot time to ask for another favour i need a shed to get more hours in the day to build it mmm m8

ok after many 16-18h days working on the boat and a few months gone by, it was time for the motor an lets see if it floats

so this is where i am so far now its winter again its time for the shed again to do the finishing touches and get some paint on it ready for dive season but this is my story so far feel free to ask questions if you like but remember im no tradie just somebody giving it a go

this was my dhu date didnt quite get finished but nearly thanks for reading sorry its so long but it was a long process

Geraldton, Anyone keen for a fish

Had confirmation today that I will be transfered to Gero for a few months maybe longer. Boat in tow should be there early July.

If anyone is keen for a fish let me know. I have never fished close to Gero so first few trips out will be to find ground.

I will only have limited gear (have some gear but most is in storage) so must have own gear for what ever we chase on the day. keen for a few trips out to the islands also.

Anyone keen let me know or even if someone needs a decky keen also.

Cheers

2010 Saltiga 4000 PE help

hi guys still seriously contemplating this reel but my question is in regards to line capacity

the 4000 is rated to hold 300m of PE3

im looking at the daiwa accudepth

standard 30lb accudepth has 0.3mm rating

but the tournament 8 braid accudepth is 0.16mm

will the tournament line not be enough to fill the spool? im assuming its more a PE1-2 rating than PE3 and seeing as it comes in 300m spools i might be better off with the standard accudepth?

any thoughts?

cheers

adding weight to HBs

thinking of drilling a fine hole in a hb and adding a liquid of sorts to weight it a bit for better casting i figure more weight = more distance with a smoother cast creating better accuracy rather than a baseball belt cast. how important are the rattle beads inside these things, i only plan to drill a hole i can fill with superglue and use a syringe to add the liquid...

mackeral islands info

any body know the best time of the year to go the mackeral islands ?

and is it better to take ur own fuel then gettin it from the island ?

cheers matt

Changing grips?

 Hey all.

I've had my egi force for nearly 3yrs now and im thinking about retirering it to boat squidding. Im going to get either the egi force type B or somthing along those lines later on. ( need to save)

Im now toying with the idea of making the rear grip one piece so it sits in the holder better and i think ill like the look good with a  solid grip on it as well as balancing it out as its tip heavy.

My question is, Who does this sort of work to rods and how much will is cost roughly? Do i just take it to a normal tackle store or do i have to take it elsewhere?

Cheers Danno

big hooks SOR

does anyone know of any place that sells hooks with a 30-50mm gape that you can buy one of? looking to try some different ones/restock, getaway outdoors in kelmscott has big circles for $1.20 each but im after other types/brands to try something different.

Looking for a match

G'day guys I bought a daiwa saltist 4500h today and was wonder on any recommendations on a good bottom bouncing rod to match don't wanna blow the weeks pay on it but would like to get something that'll last for the good years to come and if anyone happens to have something worth while for sale always keen for a look
