What rod/reel to buy
Submitted by timboon on Tue, 2018-05-15 10:11Going to buy a new set up....
I'll spend around the $700 mark, prefer over head was thinking the Talica 8 or 10...
Will be jigging metals and placs, bottom bouncing and a bit of northern trolling....
I don't need/want a "pure new school" jig rod as I probably don't fit that mould the way I fish.
Ideas anyone?

Apparently Shark fishing is now Banned in Cockburn.
Submitted by Jason P on Sun, 2018-05-13 18:55Apparently Shark fishing is banned at the Ammunition Jetty in cockburn, think this a bit of an olive branch for all the greenies out there, as I believe the City has only jurisdiction to the high water mark and also wouldn't have the ability to police it anyway. Sure it may cause a few heated words at the jetty between rival groups. :(

Windscreen problem Saga Please Help
Submitted by Superfish on Sun, 2018-05-13 13:22I recently had the windscreen replaced on my Voyager Ghia by one of the bigger boat windsceen replacement companys in Perth who had been reccomened to by by a boating bisiness. It looked great with the tinded acrlic and the job looked neat tidy and strong. Only one trip out and develop three inch crack in bottom right hand corner.
Took it back and the replaced the broken screen. No charge
Took a boat trip out again three days later noticed another bigger crack same side. I also noticed when i was washing the boat that all six of the securing scews were leaking water into the front cabin.Took it back and was told after three days i could pick it up. When i arrived the trim arround the front inside not finished had exsesive wet silicone blob i was not happy at all. Ended up leaving the boat anther day.
Had to go back late the next day trim looked beter everthing looked good but i noticed both screens were bowed and when you push on the screen. As much as 16 ml or bit more on the right hand side as you push on it. Went and saw the manger in his office told him but not happy with the bow. He said acrilic does bow but it never had that bow in either side before i took it back. After close examination yesterday i noticed that in the sun it bows badly and then when the screen cools down it tightens up to almost an exceptable level.
Can anybody please help me with this? I am deperate to what i should do. I dont want take it back again but also dont want to feel that i have beeen ripped off with shoddy poor workmanship and every time i look at that winscreen it sags.
Please hlep if you can give me technical alvise on this you help would be very much appreciated.
Kind Regards and thanks for any help

Deep freezer handles
Submitted by redcans on Sat, 2018-05-12 19:40fishing legends.
I know lots of us take deep freezers on the longer trips away but how does everyone lift them when full?
im thinking of going to the local canvas shop and getting some straps stitched together to run underneath the freezer with some handles attached I’ll them run a ratchet strap around the freezer to hopefully keep the straps in place, any other ideas?
dodgy photo attached

Furuno power cable
Submitted by Alan James on Thu, 2018-05-10 12:09I've been looking around the internet for a power cable for my Furuno NavNet VX2. There are some crazy expensive prices out there and the norm seems to be around the USD$120 mark other than the one on the below site for $44.00. This sounds a bit suss and I suspect all is not what it should be with this site. I would welcome comments as to whether this site is legit or not. https://www.eseacshop.top/gps-chartplotters-c-1_274_918_1137/furuno-navnet-vx1-amp-vx2-104034-power-cable-000154025-rdp139-rdp149-3dd-p-8152.htm&language=en

Moving transducer
Submitted by Livewire on Wed, 2018-05-09 18:29Hey guys after some advice on moving my TM/1kw transducer. The 200Hzs worked fine but 50hzs very intermittent. I marked the old position, the bottom of the transducer hung just below the hull. I'm thinking similar depth but move it a couple of inches towards the motor. In hope too clear the signal up. What do you think?

Coral Bay Trolling/Squid advice
Submitted by Rowanhill on Wed, 2018-05-09 11:47Hi All. Search function still not working for me sorry...headed up to C/Bay in a month for 3 weeks R & R...Bottom bashing, no issues always get a feed-however looking at doing a bit more trolling this year. Here is what i 'think' i know, however i am up for any simple advice offered- my knowledge is limited as we do not troll much on the sth coast, only when we head north. Some very sound advice on FW, always find feedback awesome.
Hard bodies- trolling approx 5-7 Knots. Mackeral mainly ? Have run a spread of 3 before, cpl deep divers, one shallow, kind off zig zag in 15-27 m headed sth of sth entrance. Caught a cpl, but never got more than 2 in a go. i might be too shallow/slow etc.
For Tuna/Wahoo/Mahi Mahi/Billies- have some soft oscars to give a go but really have no ideas on troll spead- 12 knots? Depth i have zero idea..?
Also gonna give the squid a shake this year-have always been around five fingers and got a few-not sure if there are better general locations to try?
Been some good threads of recent adventures up there..jealous !!!
cheers in advance

Battery for Electic Reel
Submitted by Bing on Wed, 2018-05-09 10:44Hi Guys,
I've purchased a Daiwa Tanacom 1000, I was wondering what batteries people had there electrics hooked up too? I'll be using it on my cousins boat and don't want to connect up to his boat batteries (looking for a stand alone battery).
I found the below post which was from 2012 but hoping for some more up to date information.
http://fishwrecked.com/forum/battery-suit-electric-reel
I spoke to multiple staff members from different Battery World stores and was given different suggestions.
Cheers.

Stone protection
Submitted by scotto on Tue, 2018-05-08 20:29Gday fellas,
I’ve recently picked up my new rig, an immaculate Caribbean Concorde with a pretty new 115 Suzuki. My first glass boat, and I’m pretty pumped with how she’s gone so far. The previous owner has kept her PRISTINE, to a point where you would actually think the hull is brand new.
My only drama is I’m heading to gnaraloo in a few weeks, and I don’t think I’ll have enough time to whip up some decent stone deflectors. I’m hopin you blokes might have any quick or simple ideas of minimising stone damage from the tracks.
I was thinking of maybe wrapping the whole underside of the trailer in shadecloth, to stop the stones flicking up? or maybe a full height, full width temporary mud flap, that could go behind the Ute?
Keen to to hear ideas, or methods you’ve been successful with.
Scotto.

Don't see this every day !
Submitted by The Saint on Tue, 2018-05-08 17:05Got back to the Kalbarri ramp this afternoon to see a boat trailer on the ramp, in the water and upside down !
Apparently lady was attempting to launch the boat and somehow managed to launch boat, trailer and fourby.
Vehicle was in the carpark loaded with camping and personal gear, doors open and water draining non stop.
Would certainly put a downer on your holiday. Sorry about sideways pics, can't get them to load right way up.

Coral Bay Trawling - under Commonwealth license 53 tonne
Submitted by Gunner966 on Tue, 2018-05-08 09:29Was chatting to the crew off of Olympia up her in Coral Bay after they had been wet lining for Goldband. Mentioned that they managed to get a tonne of Goldband , which was 1/ 10th of there quota. They mentioned there was a trawler up her 6 weeks ago that caught 53 tonne. I asked how could this be he he said that they were operating under a commonwealth license.
I didn't realise there was a difference. Didn't really seem fair to me.
