two rocks squiding?
Submitted by Grant Jones on Wed, 2015-09-09 08:58Hi lads, two rocks is now my local ramp and recently Ive been having a go for squid with the duo jigs. Im used to targeting them in 2-3 m around cockburn but most of two rocks area is a lot deeper. Ive had a few cracks without any luck, and lost a few jigs to some pretty big snook in the area.
Ive been having a go in the 12m zone close in. Seems to be plenty weed on the sounder.
Anyone got any advice in this area?
Cheers
Grant.
Garden/Carnac Fishpark
Submitted by Peko on Wed, 2015-09-09 07:43I pulled into the "fishpark" between Carnac and Garden Islands late yesterday afternoon for the third time in the last week and counted 30 boats with more heading in on the horizon. On this occasion I was about the first to leave where on the other two occasions I've been last man standing. The question I ask is anybody catching any Snapper?

Mixed Quota
Submitted by burnz on Mon, 2015-09-07 19:21So mixed quota is here now in the Gascoyne region, instead of pinks and spaniards being the only quota species, now everything is. Allowed to catch 3 ton of mixed to every 5 ton of pink i think. Might be a bit of target shooting and fish getting thrown back and a bit less variety on the market.
Introducing myself and looking for some advice
Submitted by Rene80 on Mon, 2015-09-07 18:56my name is Rene and i have moved over to Australia about a year and a half ago. Loving every minute of it.
I am originally from the Netherlands, where i have lived for 33 years.
when i was young, between the age of 12-16, i was fishing every day back in the Netherlands.
Mainly freshwater as it was only a 5 min walk away, but have fished off the piers aswell.
My dad was always with me on the piers and tought me everything i know.
I have recently picked up fishing again, as this is such a great country for it. The Netherlands isn't what it used to be in that regard.
I have been fishing at woodman's point off the pier, and have been out on my workmate's boat, wich was great and i just enjoy being outdoors, taking in the sun and just relaxing. And maybe even catch something.
At the moment i have a 9ft penn rod with reel with 20lb mono line, have a few sinkers and the lot and some spinners/poppers to try out aswell. Making my own rigs and all that, just like i used to do back in the Netherlands ;-)
As it is at the moment, i don't have a boat and the likes to go fishing in deep waters out to sea to catch fish, so i will have to do it landbased for now.
Now i was looking into buying a shimano aerowave 13ft with a shimano biomaster SW AHG 10000 to increase my casting distance and maybe get more chance to catch a variety of fish. And probably will get braid on that spool to aid casting distance.
I usually and what i used to do is baitfishing.
( i am a bit of a shimano nut, always have been when i was younger too ;-))
What do you lads/lasses think about that setup?
My fishing will be landbased and probably mostly in the cockburn sound (off the piers) and or the dawesville cut (off the piers and beaches in between)
I am Mandurah based so those spots are most likely to be fished most, unless people can give me some other good options.
I don't mind getting up early or stay up late to get in the prime time for certain species, but i also like to be out during the day.
Any hints, tips and advice greatly appriciated.
Rene

Navionics Silver Routing - Lawrence Elite 5
Submitted by Cold Feet on Mon, 2015-09-07 16:10Hi Guys,
My second query today is as follows..
My wife got me a Silver Navionics card from BCF for Fathers day yesterday, and I put it into my Lawrence Elite 5 - not the 5 chirp.., and I cant seem to get the unit to "plan a route" to a way point - the route from Safety bay Ramp to FFB takes me straight over Penguin Island???
Does the Navionics Silver card have the info/ability to route to a waypoint, around obstructions, Islands, shallow water and hazards, with the Elite 5?
Are my base settings incorrect, or something in the menu set wrong?
Thanks,

Mercury 90hp 1998 Rev counter connection - 2 stroke, 3 cyl
Submitted by Cold Feet on Mon, 2015-09-07 16:04Hi guys,
Anyone out there know how to set up, and connect a standard Mercury rev counter to the 90hp engine?
I have the manual, and had a look at the wiring diagrams, but they are all a little different.. I had the wire from the CDI unit going to the rev counter, grey I think it was, and it did not work, my manual indicated Yellow/black from the first coil, on plug 1 - the same wire that kills the engine, and I shocked the crap out of myself testing the signal, which seems to be a high voltage AC signal, similar to the plug output??? This did activate the rev counter, on the 3x setting on the rear of the rev counter(for amount of Cylinders, i thought), but when revving the motor, the needle just cruises around the 1000RPM mark, and wont drop off when I turn the ignition off?? The needle stays at 1000RPM with the engine off and only resets to 0 when the ignition is turned on and off again..
Anyone know what the correct color engine wire is to take to the signal of the RPM meter, and the correct setting on the RPM Meter?
Thanks,

IS IT THE SAME THAT YOU GET WHEN YOU BUY A SOUNDER/GPS UNIT . THE REASON I ASK IS THAT I HAVE A LOWRANCE COMBO AND IT WOULD BE HANDY.TO LOOK AT THE MAPS ON I PAD & LEAVE THE COMBO UNIT ON SOUNDER. CHEAPER THAN BUYING A 2ND UNIT.

Salmon in the River
Submitted by dj dvd on Fri, 2015-09-04 12:42Me and mate had a crazy session a few weeks ago on Salmon under the old traffic bridge in Fremantle. Took this little vid. They would have taken anything but we used a soft plastic rigged to a 40 pound handlne. We thought it was halarious at the time sighting these fish and pulling em out on by hand.

Fisheries doing a good job
Submitted by Madmerv on Fri, 2015-09-04 09:14Headed out from Two Rocks yesterday at gentelmans hours and headed up to Moore river for a bit. The river mouth must be open with a big splume of dirty water out to 3 mile.
Had a shocking day with just a few fish released due to size. The friendly fisheries blokes stopped by to check out the bait esky (as the fish esky was empty) and all was good.
On our return to the marina the fisheries were checking catches at the ramp. Well there were a few boats there so we hung out in the marina to wait our turn and while tonking around i spotted a pretty big Dhuie carcas that someone had tossed in the marina. As it came alongside us we realized it was a whole fish. Well our esky was empty so we grabbed it. A still cold from the esky 5kg dhu. Looks like someone was not following the rules and decided to drop it in when they saw the fisheries guys.
If you know who it was thank them for me.

Super Deep Talk Night Hosted by Oceanside Tackle and Marine - Friday 2nd October
Submitted by Oceanside Tackle on Thu, 2015-09-03 13:31If there’s one thing we get asked all the time it's “ when is Ryan Thipthorp/Oceanside going to do a super deep talk night”
We’ll its happening and our first night was done at CPBA recently and the outcome was great with plenty of people saying they learnt heaps.
There were plenty people there and we had to cap the crowd numbers (sorry to the people that missed out). We are doing another night and this will be the last one so don't miss out!!
Ryan Thipthorp would have to be one of the most dedicated Super Deep fisherman that has put in the hard yards. Ryan has spent many years out there and when it comes to understanding a sounder, what to look for and how to jig these species he is at the fore front.
John Adams the author of " How to use an Echo Sounder/Fish Finder " will be there to talk to people at half time break and at the end of the night also.
Johns book and all super deep gear like electric reels/rods/Esca lights/custom sinkers and super deep jigs etc will be discounted on the night (Cash and EFTPOS sales available).
Super Deep Talk Night Hosted by Oceanside Tackle and Marine - Friday 2nd October
Ps The bar will be Open but no food put on (Thanks).
Cheers from the Oceanside Team

Nylon anchor rope
Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 2015-09-03 00:13i need to get some anchor rope in the next couple weeks and I was wondering if anyone was using nylon anchor rope? In my previous boats I've just used the "silver"branded rope and I was wondering if the nylon was worth the extra $$? Will be using 8m of 8mm chain and 12mm diamater 3 strand nylon rope with a delta anchor.
Also if you have personally used a delta style anchor what size would you recommend? Boat is a 590 trailcraft trailblazer

Drum Winch - Lonestar GX1 / GX2
Submitted by AHarman on Wed, 2015-09-02 16:56Looking at both 600W and 1000W winches. Both appear to have 2800kg holding power. Have a 5.8m Haines Hunter which have notoriously small anchor wells. Thinking GX1 just due to size. anyone have a lonestar and can provide insight. feedback much appreciated. Open to other brands / types.

Cracked Hull
Submitted by Deckie on Wed, 2015-09-02 15:35Hi folks, my brother in-law has a Voyager LTD, 18'6" I think.
He went out 2 weeks ago in a slightly choppy sea & on the way back dropped over the back of a wave & heard a rather loud "bang".
He kept going but noticed that the bilge pump was on, automatic switch on.
When he got back to the ramp & on the trailer he had a lot of water coming out of the rear bung even though the pump had been on for half the return journey.
After a quick inspection, he noticed about midships there was a crack across the hull, yes "across" the hull.
Has this happened to anyone else & what was the outcome. Is it repairable or not advised because of the cost to an older boat & the structural integrity of the repair ????
Your thoughts are gratefully accepted.
