fishing Bunbury/Binningup
Submitted by Versus on Mon, 2013-05-20 20:32Thinking about staying at Binningup over the long weekend coming up, hoping to do some beach fishing and maybe even try for bream in the Collie. Anyone got some general tips or suggestions on where's worth fishing? Have only fished there once before (Binningup beach) and only caught some small stuff and a shovelnose. Likewise for the bream/non-beach fishing, any tips would be great, have no idea where to start.
cheers

Your best filletting Knife - which one and why?
Submitted by JW on Mon, 2013-05-20 11:35I have probably about 10 various shape and size filleting knives. But still feel I dont have the right one.
Watching the charter boat guys up on Coral Bay clean fish, the ones they use looks bit like the Blade Runner - see Ebay link www.ebay.com.au/itm/Blade-Runner-Red-Teflon-Coated-20cm-Fillet-Knife-w-Sheath-TACKBRTC20-/251180057495
Which one do you use, and why do you like it that much?
A photo will be great as well.
Cheers

Finally my first report
Submitted by dant on Mon, 2013-05-20 07:46Hi All,
a few months back i purchased my first tug, 21ft fibreglass - it has been a long life dream to finally get off shore and catch some good fish in my own boat. Over the past few months i have been heading out around Rotto trying to get my feet and doing a heap of research (thanks to the FW fishos posting reports, this has helped heaps) after months of nothing i finally landed myself a little spot of Rotto, so here goes on my first report:
So me and a mate decided to go sunday morning at about 11pm Sat night after having about 12 stubbies each - bit of last minute stuff but after having a look at the weather it was a no brainer (after i got the leave pass through the cheese and kisses, lucky she had a few by then), got to bed around 1am after making some last minute rigs up.
First drop we got a small BA and Gurnard, from then on we started getting smashed by large SGT Bakers - 50cm

Great start to the day as we had plenty of fresh bait to hopefully get my first big dhuie on board, i was excited to say the least.
bit later on after a few more drifts past the our new spot we ended up getting a small Dhuie, i was stoked as i thought it was size - negative, only went 48cm so was dissapointed to say the least, but the dissapointment was short lived as i finally got onto something a big bigger, after a good fight i landed a solid queeny (4kg) which is about perfect size so i have read, i was over the moon becuase it was the first descent fish that had been landed in my boat

the mullet was killing it. getting good thumps but mssing alot of descent fish - was a bit weird that nothing was really taking the Sgt Bakers, when we run out of mullet (wont be doing that again) - the bites dried up and we decided to move on.
We decided to go a bit closer into Rotto in about 20 metres of water as i really wanted to land a pinky, dropped the line sat back and poured myself a jacks - next thing the rod bent over, jacks went all over me as i grabbed the rod, off like a rocket 5 mins late after a good fight it surface FK ME i yell out its a Shark, as it surfaced it took off again, almost with me overboard, finally after a few late runs around the boat we get the little physco on board - did not come quietly.

finally i thought i could have a rest - school boy error, was only round 3 off it went again, thrashing around the boat, sinkers and shit flying everywhere - my mate has a cracker of bruise on his shin.
after a few WWF moves and a flying leg drop from the canopy and a rear naked choke he finally tapped out.

Apparently they are really good eating, so if anyone has a good shark recipe pls let me know.
So all in all was descent day out with finally some fish to come home to show the family, so im happier than a pig in shit, still hunting for my elusive 15kg Dhui but thats the great thing about fishing, will just have to keep the chin up and keep trying.
Some good fillets below for the freezer.

Sorry if it was a bit long winded - thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed.
Cheers Dan

Fishing destination advice
Submitted by Super peg on Sun, 2013-05-19 23:14Hey guys/ladies
coming up is a long weekend, and me and my mates are super keen on heading north of Perth for a fishing weekend, never been much up north, doubt a 4wd will be available at the time and we are land based, Kalbarri is 6 hours, IDE love to go there again but mates are not that keen to go so far up, any recommendations For a reasonable fishing destination? Main target is tailor, mulloway, bigger things!

Stella handle knob removal problem
Submitted by Cameron71 on Sun, 2013-05-19 20:11I have a 4000FD. I want to take the knob off and see if one of my spare knobs fits. I have taken out the two small screws that hold the little plastic cover on the end of the knob. (Its the flat paddle type knob). Removing that cover reveals a single short screw. Take the screw out and voila - I can't get the knob off. There's nothing visble holding the damn thing on though. Has someone done this?

Yesterday off Cape Nat
Submitted by Seaquest on Sun, 2013-05-19 13:57Got out for a fish yesterday with Lamby and Dave. Conditions were pretty good considering the weather we have had in the past few days.
Fished some ground I haven't touched in a good 6 months and it wasn't too long before we had our bag of dhuies. Daves was caught on a SP and mine on a fresh cuttlefish candle.
Next was to try and find a few nannies out wider. Couldn't find any nannies but the pink snapper were thick in places. Caught them on jigs and bait, most were released but a few made it into the esky. Liam with one of many double headers.
Got home pretty late so the filleting was left for the next day. Daves two boys enjoyed checking out the catch while we cleaned them.

Morning out
Submitted by Swompa on Sun, 2013-05-19 11:26Headed out from Woodies point this morning at 8:00 trying to get some squid.
First boat fishing trip for my 7yo niece so and it was extra special with out new matching Ben 10, 3 foot rods, which turned out to be ideal for the tinny.
unfortunately, after drifting over 4 week banks with no signs, and also a slow trawl in trying to get something, we headed in.
Niece had a ball on the boat which was the bigger concern, so good morning out regardless of the lack of fish/squid.
Water was so clear too!

Submitted by JamesB on Sun, 2013-05-19 07:37Hi there,
We are heading to Exmouth in the July school holidays, and plan to do mostly land based or Kayak fishing.
Its been about 15 years since I was last there. Ive searched the archives and come up with lots of good info on tackle and species etc.
But..
what is the fishing like in July? Some people have told me land based is a bit quiet that time of year. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Exmouth Spinning Outfit!
Submitted by Torzar on Sat, 2013-05-18 16:23Hi guys, heading up the Exxy either october or early-ish next year. Chasing recomendations on a mid sized spinning outfit for throwing plastics and hardbodies from the shore for the likes of queenies and trevs. Have been looking at A Sol II 3000, paired with maybe a Generation Black Supercasta 5-10kg (7"6') ? Don't really have much experience with heavier stuff... usually target bream, so not sure how heavey/light to go for these fish. Any advice would be fantastic! budget is as little as possible... max about $450 maybe stretchable to $500
Thanks in advance!

GME GR200 AM/FM/VHF any good?
Submitted by Jason K on Sat, 2013-05-18 11:05Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong spot.
So, I've just about had a gutsfull of the portable ipod speaker jumping all over the boat in any sort of chop and think the hand held radio I have might be insufficient also. Has anyone got the GME all in one AM/FM/VHF radio? It's got the 3.5mm jack for aux input, looks like it would be a goer. As a media player, would be enough for me, but is the VHF radio any good. Certainly a space saver.
Edit: Sorry, read a bit closer, it's only VHF reciever, not transmitter!!!
