Shore Catch Update
Submitted by Mick C on Fri, 2016-01-08 11:54Firstly I would like to wish Members a Happy New Year and thank you for your continued support and encouragement. There is no doubt we will continue our FW sponsorship into the future.
After spending quite a bit of time designing the shop front graphic, my good mate from the east (we have been mates since I was 2) flew over for the install this week. It is amazing how printing technology has moved on and needless to say I am very happy with the end result. We tried to make it quite clear what we offer and this is now up for all to see. There is still a bit more signage to come but it is good to have this bit over, and the Showroom now has a “real” feel to it.

WA Fisheries has granted my Fish Processing Place and Fish Processor Licences. The decision to grant was advertised on 3 December and there were no objections from “affected parties” so the licences issued on 6 January.

What this means is that we can now make burley for sale and process and package our own baits. This couldn’t be done before the licences issued but now we can start to prepare so that we have a supply when we finally open (likely to be 1 February). Although, if any FW Members would like to “get in early” you are welcome to send me a PM and I will let you know when things are available.
Although the second-hand dealing stuff has caused a bit of controversy, my licence has been issued by the WA Police. As I have stated previously, we intend to operate a consignment only business for “higher end” equipment and we have the licences, secure premises, processes and relevant insurances in place. It is important however that a suitable, simple English, consignment agreement exists and I have now prepared a draft as below. I would really appreciate any comments that Members may have regarding the draft agreement.

It feels like we are on the home straight regarding set up however there is still a lot to go. We will be at the premises from now on so if any Members would like to drop in and say hello you are more than welcome. We are now actively seeking goods for consignment so if you have anything that you would like to display, please let me know. A FW Member has already provided some gear that I know Members will be very interested in and I will publish details of this in due course.
Our web site will change significantly in the next few weeks as we detail the products and services that we can now offer from a purpose fitted out showroom, and I will advise when this has been done.
Thanks again for the support and all the best for 2016.

I hate platypus line
Submitted by stonedpirate on Fri, 2016-01-08 10:34Hi all
I was new to alvey reels a couple of years ago when i bought my first one. I now have 3. Because alvey recommends the use of low stretch line, I always bought platypus lo stretch for all 3 reels as it was the only one that said low stretch on the box ![]()
After two years of being snapped off by small tailor on 8kg, small sharks on 15kg and last night on a small bronzie on 24kg lo stretch, i have had it with this line.
If i bought 1000m of 24kg tortue, is that going to explode my fibreglass spool when i hook up to a shark?
I read a forum post about a guy who used 15kg berkely big game and his reel exploded 10 minutes after spooling it.
I like alvey reels but i hate lo stretch platy.
Dont want to kill my spools using random line.
What would be a suitable alternative for 600m+ of 24kg?
Thanks

People Breaking your Gear
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Thu, 2016-01-07 12:42How do you guys handle deckie mates breaking your shit on the boat. Took out my brother in law who fishes a lot and he broke a rod, a drink holder and a fixing for my clears. The the two fixings cost me $20 to replace but the rod is going to be $90 and I don't really want to ask for the money and no offer was forthcoming.
I've taken out other mates just squidding and have two boxes of jigs and say one is fine to use, the other is user replaces. Thinking of setting same rules for mates who want to come out and don't have their own gear and borrow the Mrs' gear i.e. set the break it and replace it agreement before we head out. I've also thought about buying a few cheaps combos off Gumtree for deckies to use but my house is already full of rods and reels.
How do you guys go about providing gear for mates, family etc who want to come out for a fish?

Running Boards, not fishing related
Submitted by wez0062 on Wed, 2016-01-06 11:48Hi guys,
anyone purchased a set of running boards for your 4WD lately. Ford is quoting me just under $2300.00 for a set.
Bugger me, I could purchase a set of wheels & tyres for that.
anyone have any other suggestions, like companies who will make for you, without wanting half your retirement nest egg :(
thanks in advance Wez

Pot theives
Submitted by little johnny on Wed, 2016-01-06 07:39Still hasn't stopped. Good mate has lost 3 big jarrah pots in 2 weeks.2 from 35 m of water nwest from point peron .and 1 from inside Sth West Bank. They haven't been cut . 2 dives in 35 m mark not on the bottom anywhere. Question has anyone used small gps saterlite transmitters yet? Cost around 30 dollars silastic them inside pot . ( out of view) Once they hit surface they can be located. In all my years I have never seen so many pot thefts? Pretty sad really . Karma will get them one day. I would hate to have to replace 3 pro jarrah pots. Not cheap.

First Dhuie of the year
Submitted by STORMBOY on Tue, 2016-01-05 16:40Hi Guys,
Got to fish out of Hillarys last night and went to a location at 33m. Decided just to look for fish with my Furuno FCV587 with my best mate G taking it in turns to locate and drop on anything looking fishy! Used Squid with Mulies inserted.
We fished from about 6pm to 9pm and kept 2 fish and released 7 more (mostly around the 45-55 cm mark)
I dislike mornings and love it when I can fish into the night :) Was a bit dodgy minding Cray pot lines on the way in, but managed to avoid them.
Looking at some of the fish that members catch here, this pales into insignificance...however on light gear it was fun and very special seeing that many dhufish at once.
