After a gps/sounder combo for my boat. Only be going  to the 5 fathom bank and for inshore work. Was wondering what I will be paying for a half decent unit and does anyone have any suggestions?

 Was looking at getting my current C-Map NT+ Max local updated as its still the 2007 version, Used in the Navman 6507.

 I have found a few eastern state companies that assist with the update through Jeppeson but was hoping for some one in WA that could do the update.

Any help or experiences with the updates would be great.

My friend sent me this picture from Kalbarri and i cant work out what the fish on the left is . My first thoughts were a Blue Bastard or a Sand Snapper but it seems to be a bit different from any pictures i can find.

just wanted to know what colour squid jigs work for you?? i have been going for the natural colours and have had some success but i want to change it up and want to know what you guys think is the best colour to go with.

i was down fishing at stirling highway bridge on monday and there was a few blokes down there with a kayak powered with an inboard motor. bit like a jet ski. looked like fun and fairley moved. any one from here know any more details on the wild machine?

Picked up a Shimano jewel rod today for a suprisngly cheap price its the 3-5 kg rod 7' rod just wanting to know peoples thoughts on these rods going to put one of my emeraldas on it and attempt to do some land based squidding with it  

hi guys was just wondering what is the best way to join my wind on leader to my 30lb mainline? am i better off tying it myself or buying the pre made wind on leaders and if so the best way to join them to my mainline? Have tried tying my own using just using uni to uni knot but because of the line diameter difference just doesnt look right. any help and info would be greatly apprectated cheers

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed discrepancies between different weather websites regarding wind direction and strength?

i use http://www.bom.gov.au/wa/forecasts/perth-waters.shtml , http://wind.willyweather.com.au/wa/perth/rockingham.html and

http://www.weatherzone.com.au/wa/lower-west/garden-island .

For example this sunday ( as at 1630pm wednesday),

                                                                               BOM forecast is southerly 15 - 25 knots.

                                                                               willy weather ESE 5 knots, west/ SW 10 - 13 knots in the afternoon.

                                                                              Weatherzone Garden Island 9am East 9 km, 3pm SSW 21km ( East 5 knots, SSW 11 knots).

It appears to me the BOM forecast the last couple of months has little information, is often wrong, and seems like the work experience kid is running the show.

The BOM land forecast for Rockingham for sunday is :

Sunny. Winds east to southeasterly and light tending southwesterly 15 to 25 km/h during the day then tending southerly 15 to 20 km/h during the evening

This forecast is a little different from the marine forecast!!!!

Also are they getting KM's and Knots mixed up???

Just interested what people think the best chart plotter is. Just got a Furuno 620 sounder and now looking at a gps/chart plotter unit. Looking at spending between $300 and $500 or there abouts. Any thoughts?

Just wonderign if anyone has driven up that way over the last couple days?

Is there much water on the road or any flooding?

Just got a new mobile, and it seems my Navionics app has not been transferred with the sim card.  I dont understand how this stuff works.  Has anyone else managed to keep all their waypoints and Navionics onto their new phone?

I was coming up the Coast Rd this morning when a car,(toyota 4wd) pulling a boat came out from the road to Preston Beach. As he powered away. Hand reels started flying out of the back of the boat. Dont know how many, I got around him as quick as I could.

Has anyone been out and given this a go???

Didn't get to give it a go last summer , but seriously thinking about taking a few blocks out there and spending a few hrs drifting.

Maybe pick up some live baits and  balloon them.

Any idea's on rigs as in poundage and hook sizes??

Are there any spots in the Swan where I can go scoop for crabs? I know spots to drop nets but the young ones want to scoop because its more fun...

I've only scooped in Mandurah and never tried Swan before..

 my friend Rapala and I, we are going to head out to the FADs near rotto next weekend

we gonna beach the boat at rotto, stay overnite and then head out in the early morning

anybody been out there before? anybody willing to give us some tips on how to land some beast?

we have been doing a bit of trolling with lures before (mostly jurien bay and shark bay) but really we only caught some spanish, some tuna nothing super...so yes more blind luck rather than technique...(or that's the way I feel it anyway)

so what are the general rules..

-3 lures in the water at different depths

-bright lures if the sky is cloudy, dark lures if it is sunny

-trolling speed around 5-8 knowts

-is it better to troll with the sun behind right?!

-does it make sense to chuck some fish oil while trolling?

I know we really suck at it but please give us some advice

also is anygood jigging out there? again we don't have much experience with it as we mainly fish with sinckers and baits

Id like a bit of advice/pointers if you dont mind sparing the time. Iv never fished before last saturday when we went camping down near Dunsborough, I was watching a few guys casting on the beach thought id give it a shot. Bought my self a 12' Rod  and Reel Combo ( Had no idea what to buy but i walked away with a Jarvis Walker Aquatec 12' Surf, with the Aquatec 750 reel, cost me $40 in a sale so...) 

Any way I got a couple of 'whiting Rigs', attached some prawns and went away. Caught a few fish... have no idea what they are so im going to search after posting this. I just loved the day of fishing! Had no idea what i was doing but it was great! Now im back in Mandurah and want to continue but with abit more knowledge. Iv been reading around and I went to fishing shop near by asking for advice but the guy was so rude and unhelpful, i can only assume it was because I didnt know what fish i wanted to catch....as i dont know what will be a good start... i ended up walking out. Iv heard a few people mention whiting and bream? Are these a good start to aim for? If so, would i just continue to buy the 'Whiting Rigs' and prawns as i did or would you guys recomend the soft jelly type lures??... also where are some good spots to start? times etc?

Any thing you can comment on my rod, good spots, bait/lures, hooks, recomended fish to aim for, even the fish i caught!!

hope you can help me more than the guy at the local shop as i really enjoyed the day and would like to give a good go at getting into the sport (also like boats so its a good excuse to get a little one in the future)

Could somebody please tell what exactly the do in a 20hr service for a 30hp 2 stroke?

Just trying to get an opinion on everyones preference of knots.

Is it one knot fits all ? ie "I only use one knot for all tying" if so what is that knot.

Is it one knot for terminal tying ? ie swivels and hooks.

Or is it "I use this knot for tying to hooks, this knot for swivels, split rings, this knot from leader to mono..Braid ?

I've had a search and read thru past posts, but couldn't get really what I wanted.

 Heading out Sunday to sound out sum new deep drop ground an wanted to try tangle with a YFT. Just wanted to know preferances of lures colors ect! Any other pointers / tips. Iv caught lots at the abroholos and exy but just when trawling for Mack's 

 Here's a couple of photos from when I serviced my torium 50, this reel has caught well over 20 sharks over 2m and hooked so so many more and some monstourous rays!! The gears and bearings are all still fine with little or no wear considering its spent it's life on full drag with 14kg+ of pressure constantly. The drag washers are almost non existent with hot spots on the steel washers. New set of drag washers are on there way and she will be good to go again. Just goes to show that you don't need top of the line to catch big stuff.

Went out from two rocks yesterday didnt get in the water until 11am 1 undersize dhui that was it compared to the last two times I went out bagged out by lunchtime how did the rest of yous go?

I have currently bought a secondhand 15ft boat with a EVINRUDE 50HP 1972 outboard

The motor runs and works ok, but wont running full trottle when the control arm is all the way forward

Can and one have or know how to fix or knows a good mechanic that wont charge to much to look or fix it?

Any help would be great

I was just wondering what advice you can give 2 complete novice fishpeople! I've been on a couple of deep sea fishing trips and absolutely loved it and want to start doing much more fishing on weekends.

We have a little boat, 2 x rods and some lures etc. We were told that using squid out by Garden Island is pretty good.

Can anyone give me some more advice on what to use, where to go etc etc?

I am going up to Denham in April and was hoping to catch some maccies and any other pelagics cruising around. I have not been there before and the research I have done mentions spots around Dirt Hartog Island and South passage, which sound great, but I wont be able to get that far. Is it worth trolling around out from Denham or Monkie Mia or should I just focus on catching a few pinkies.
