Anyone braving the weather tomorrow?
Submitted by Noxious on Fri, 2016-12-16 11:21Anyone getting out for a demersal bash tomorrow? Weather looks manageable until about 1pm.
Easterly blowing in the morning, getting out shouldn't be much of an issue.
Go pick up a christmas dhu for the christmas bbq.

Yellow Fin Whiting Popping Technique
Submitted by crasny1 on Fri, 2016-12-16 08:05Hi FWers
Just interested in what technique other employ popping for whiting. I have changed mine lately and having more success.
Started popping almost like blooping originally. Got a few but noticed that the fish would follow, and then on the pause would abort.
I thought this still was the correct way and persisted, and yes got a few.
But a tried basically a new way and that is constant wind with a few twitches of the rod tip, and this seems to get more hits and less aborts.
Is this what others use?
Or is there even better ones out there.
Also tried the fly and the same with the strips the fish seem to spook on the pause, but a flat out pull seem to get them more excited (pretty much like men LOL)

Finance
Submitted by Shane O on Thu, 2016-12-15 20:06Hi
organising finance for our boat, bought the contract home
and noticed they have added a delear origination fee. This was not in the contract,
is this something that can be done without our consent. Should this be paid by the
finance company to the dealer?
do we have to pay it?

Echo sounder installation
Submitted by Curndog on Thu, 2016-12-15 17:15Hey guys,
planning on buying new sounder this Boxing Day (Garmin 95sv) and just wondering how difficult sounders are to install? Pretty good with my hands and have a brief idea. Would people recommend to get someone who knows what they're doing to do it? Don't want it to be faulty! If so I'm keen as to get in asap before new year while I have time off and can go fishing. Anyone out there who might be interested in doing it for cash over the holidays? Cheers

18 hook ups, 4 landed
Submitted by br3nno on Wed, 2016-12-14 17:19Went out this morning on the boat and burleyed up for herring.
Used a 5g twisty, they loved it. But I kept losing the fish, off the beach I probably would have caught 8 but still. Is this normal? Little frustrated tbh ahah. The lure is new, some that I landed had shredded mouths from previous cracks.
Tips?

Swag Poles
Submitted by Pezdog on Tue, 2016-12-13 11:42Hi all
Anyone know where to get replacement swag poles from without paying an arm and a leg through the manufacturer?
It's an Oztrail Mitchell swag but universal poles should be fine. Even if any members have excess ones they don't use?
Checked out BCF which didn't have any and the Rays near me has closed.

Towing the boat up to Leeman
Submitted by Fraser 5.25 on Tue, 2016-12-13 10:41Hi all,
I have used the search function and the posts that I have found are a little old but I have booked in to Leeman from the 10th of Jan to the 13th and weather permitting at the time, I'll tow up my boat.
My young fella is starting to show interest in coming out fishing where he never used to and I am hoping to get the boat out. I haven't pushed the subject with him in the past as I don't want to scare him off by making him do something he doesn't want to do but while the interest is there, I'll encourage it. I have read some mixed reports on the new boat ramp from previous posts about it being a bit hard to use and was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on ease of use and something about missing ladders?
I understand that the ocean is a big and gets rough but is sheltered water easy to find so that I don't scare my son getting him sea sick. Are there areas that I need to steer clear of? I normally fish out of Point Perron and have had him out a few times on good days so he's fine on the boat on calm-ish water but he has the attention of a gold fish when the fish aren't chewing.
If it's generally rough all year round, then I'll just leave the boat home as I was intending on taking it so that I can take him out while the wife looks after the youngest.
Thanks in advanced,
Ken

Shark Smart
Submitted by Noxious on Mon, 2016-12-12 08:59G'day
Not to fuel the shark debate again, but I have a gripe.
We went out trolling on the weekend, did some serious K's. All the way out to the trench and hit two FAD's up, fishing wasn't great. Couldn't even turn a reel. Nothing on either FAD except a small amount of bait fish.
Decided to hit up the west end of Rottnest. Went for a quick look, bulk divers around. So decided to push off the west end and keep trolling, found a few schools of Tuna that were very easily spooked. So we cut the engine and started to drift casting lures when a 4m Great white turned up and hung around the boat for a good 10 - 15 minutes. Such an impressive animal, stuck its face out of the water to eye ball us, and showed a definite level of intelligence.
We were approximately 2km away from lots of divers so did the righty and called it into 'Shark Smart' which redirects you to Water Police. I gave all the details to water police and mentioned the relative close proximity to divers. I was expected it to get called in over the radio to warn people in the area, nothing (unless for whatever reason our radio didn't pick up the message), go on the shark smart website and it also hasn't been logged in there either, so it begs the question, what is the point in calling it in?
I know Water Police are busy, but it is difficult for people to make informed decisions about getting in the water if the information being provided is not properly logged and made available.
Thanks,

Dhufish Length Measurement
Submitted by Tom M on Mon, 2016-12-12 08:18A discussion with a friend on the weekend about fisheries commenting to a fisherman last week on the rules for measuring Dhufish, fisheries guy says that the Dhufish is to be measured from the top lip, not from the point of the fish. Somewhat confusing giving that in the Recreational Fishing Guide page 8 states otherwise as below.
Size limits To check if your catch is of a legal size, measure finfish from the point of the snout to the tip of the tail.
Anyone want to comment on this, or had any experience with fisheries?
