hey guys looking at getting a furuno fvc 588 

Just wondering if it has bottom lock?

Have downloaded a few manuals and looked on here but couldn't find anything.

I've pulled some nice fish off the spots below, however I found it hard to discriminate the bottom type.

I know the general rules of the thicker the harder the bottom, the more tails the rougher etc, but if anyone could please point me into specifics of these shots that would be great.

In addition I was wondering who uses the bottom lock side to try and differentiate coarl types etc and what colours they look for.

At the moment I'm thinking the little bit of yellow with green tips above the bottom may indicate plate coral or a hard slate bottom.

I'd love to hear your opinions, or any advice.

Getting a new 295 for the new toy.
As it is marine ply with fiberglass skin, they will need to be wet faced, through hull with fairings.
I and awaiting a email from Taylor marine with their recommendations and quotations for the supply and install.

 Hi,

I'm chasing any help/advice I can get with my sounder set up. It seems to read fine in shallow water 30-60m and at speed too. 

When I push out into deeper water the HF can still get an image, all be it weak, but I get no image at all on the LF. 

I've attached an image I took recently down off the south coast. Half of it is missing as I was trying to see if LF would work.

I'm not sure if it's the settings on the sounder, the transducer selection (1kw transducer selected), or the angle of the trans. The trans has a slight forward lean as instructed in the installation instructions. But my boat is fairly stern heavy and I'm not sure if this could accentuate the angle enough to through out the trans signal.

I'm away at work at the moment so I'll try add a few extra photos soon.

Hi all , just seeing if anyone out there is using a tzt2 as a standalone fishfinder ? and if so your thoughts good and bad, is it a pain to adjust sounder settings etc any info appreciated before i buy one, cheers.

Fitting up a Furuno 295 and I'm looking at different options to transom mount the 200B-8B transducer.

Does anyone here have one or seen any good mounts. Pictures would be awesome.

I'm looking at purchasing a new sounder but was hoping someone could clarify the difference between the furuno 628 and 588.

Only differences i could find is the screen size and that the 588 is capable of having a 1kw transducer.

I only fish upto approx. 60 metres so do you think the 628 will be more than capable for that kind of fishing?

I have an FCV585 with an M260 (IkW in hull) transducer.

On the weekend i was out in around 200m and was struggling to read bottom at 6 knots.

I had TVG set to High, using 50kHz....I thought i would read better with this setup. Any suggestions? Shallow water performance has been awesome.

Anyone have a similar setup and what sort of performance do you get in deeper water?

Just brought the new 588 with the TM260. Seems the rezboost, ACCU-Fish and bottom descrimination wont work on the 1kw setting only the 526TID-HDD, does this make any difference to it's performance? Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to set up and get the best from these units.

wondering if anyone can help me with this. Generally fish in less that 50 meters, so run HF with no issues, but when I head out deeper to around 100 the HF begins to cut out. When I switch over to LF there is a huge amount of interference near the bottom. The photo below shows an example of the LF interference compared to the HF. If I reduce the gain down to about 1 the interference disappears, but so does the bottom.

im running an airmar p66 with the following settings.

Colour erase 15%
Clutter 10%
TVG - Med
Black - Hue background
Gain 5.0 HF

any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

G'day guys, I thought I'd throw up a couple of sounder shots for shits and giggles and see how you guys interpreted them. Im happy with the bottom two, being a school of bait and a couple of fish but I would like some opinions on the first one. I've come across this ground a few times and always in the same spots, so it would be interesting to see people's interpretations.

 HI All, 

I have a 4.8m ali that is used predominantly for beach launching. Dry retrieve onto the trailer (i.e. skull drag up the beach away from wave surge, then wich up) and depending on swell conditions at times its a dry launch. Im currently using a 587, P66 transom mount. Given the launching / retrive i have snapped a few trannies of the transom so im chasing some info on how to stop it from happening. 

Firstly, thinking of going to a thru hull, however given the boat is dragged along the sand to retrive im concerned the face of the tranny will become scuffed, is this likley to affect the reading to the point where its not worth pursuing? 

Or, im chasing ad adjustable bracket so i can slide the tranny up while preparing to come into shore and drop it down once ive launched. The current setup where P66 'kicks up' with pressure from the undersigned works most of the time, however as i said, have also brocken a few and the $$ of replacement is adding up. Chasing a bracket Simialr to the attached image, cant for the life of me source one from anywhere. 

I do have a 200B tranny in the shed and the 50kh equivalent, designed for 'in-hull' install, is anyone aware of a bracket for those models to be converted to a transom munt?

Few questions i know, curious to hear any similar setups or solutions.

I'm looking at taking the inlaws boat north in May.

I want to replace their shitty old garmin sounder with the 587/588 plus 1kw tranny TM260.

I'm wondering if i can buy the TM 260 and run my head unit FCV627 on that?

I'll upgrade their head unit to the 588 later but for now i was hoping to be a tight arse and not spend the funds.

I've been google searching and most say you can run a 1kw tranny through a 600w head unit but i just wanted opinions here especially if guys are doing or have done and what results they were getting?

higuys have just had a furuno 588 and tn 260 qkw installed and am buggered if I know how to increase range above 300 m? Any ideas would be great?

also reading had quite a few vertical lines distorting/ interrupting the reading just wondering if anyone has had similar issues?cheers

The boat i purchased last year came with a Furuno 587 and airmar 1kw transducer. Ive been struggling with setting it up to so i looks like some of the sounder shots ive seen in this forum.

i used to find it easier to find fish and identify structure with my old Lowrance POS.

any help with some settings to make it easier for me to setup would be great. mainly fish perth metro in 20 to 60mtrs targeting demersals.

i have the manual and have been doing a bit of reading up but most of the info comes from US pages in different fishing applications.

 hi guys I'm looking at upgrading to a 295 and I'm going to have a transom mount transducer , I want to put a 2/3kw on a drop down pole,what are the recommendations for which transducer to use?I'm hoping to use a 28 or 38khz any suggestions or experience as to who is recommended to fabricate the pole would be much apprecaited

 Hey guys, does anyone have any info on wiring the tranny into the back of the 295, iy seems i have 2 wires and 3 possible locations, if anyone has any info it would be much appreciated.

 Just chasing the settings for manual mode for reds and dhuies. Obviously it's high frequency and bottom lock and zoom. What tvg are u running and clutter etc. let me know what you are running cheers. 

 Does anyone know where I can buy a 520-PLD 600 watt thru hull transducer to suit my FCV628 sounder?

i would like to find somewhere locally or at least an Australian site, I can't find anything online other than overseas sites or eBay.
