Furuno Sounders
Furuno FCV 585
Submitted by Lefty 44 on Tue, 2025-10-07 08:08Just bought a 2nd hand boat that came with a Furuno sounder.
The power plug was corroded up and wouldn't go in.
I managed to clean it out but still no go.
Any chance someone not too far fro Forrestfield is running one of these?
Thought I might be able to plug it in and check if the head unit is working before purchasing a new cable and going to the trouble to install it.
Happy to arrive with a 6 pack of your choice for your trouble.

WTB Furuno Sounder
Submitted by robby4675 on Thu, 2025-04-17 18:19Hey crew,
Bought a boat in January and doing a refurb, it has a Lowrance Elite 9 TI2 but I'm thinking of using it as a chart plotter and getting a Furuno. Chasing a 587 or 588 with a P66 as I won't go out deep. Any recommendations or anyone have anything laying around please let me know.

garmin settings for markfish
Submitted by squires1 on Sat, 2024-04-20 08:11HI All
I have a furuno 628 hooked up to a garmin 952xs plus via markfish , just wondering if anyone has the settings for the garmin as the NMEA 0183 in this newer model and
has bulk settings and options, i know they are connecting in some way as the furuno when i hit the mark button shows the gps position but when i hit enter or mark again it dosen't transfer
the mark over to the garmin.
I have followed furuno settings from previous posts on this site but am lost for what the garmin should be

Link 585 to GP1971F to use mark button
Submitted by stevo58 on Sun, 2023-10-08 16:46Hi all,
Just after some advice to link my 585 to my gp1971f unit so I can use the Mark button on the 585 to place a mark on the plotter (gp1971f unit).
i have heard I just need a furuno data cable NMEA 0183 to link them together. Has anyone had luck this way? I was also reading up on the Markfish units as another option, though this may be more expensive.
Do I need a NMEA 0183 to 2k cable ,Was my other query.
Cheers
Steve

GP1971F Additional Screen
Submitted by Browndog on Thu, 2023-08-17 17:03Hi FW Crew.
Currently running a GP1971 & TM260 on the dash, which is working great. Only issue I have is that I can't see the screen from the fishing area on the deck, so looking to get an additional display mounted up high on the dash on a bracket. From what I've read I don't think you can run two GP1971F units networked, but was wondering if there was any other kind of display that could be used. The second screen doesn't need any funtionality, just needs to display what's on the screen of the GP1971.
Appreciate any advice or suggestions.
Cheers,
BD.

GP1971F Transducer Upgrade 1kW
Submitted by Browndog on Mon, 2023-01-09 16:57Hi FW Crew.
Currently running a GP1971 with transom mounted P66, and looking at doing some deeper work in 200-250m depths. Due to hull arrangement will need to be transom mounted, so thinking TM260 will be the go. Anyone running a set up like this and can comment on performance in those sort of depths? Or should I be looking at something that offers Chirp, and why?
Cheers,
BD.

chirp or non chirp??
Submitted by Alpha on Sat, 2022-05-28 21:37Hi Crew.
A couple of weekends ago I had all my electronics stolen off my boat. The mungrels stole my 10 inch Lowrance dash mounted sounder, even took the TM260. They left all the screws, that was nice of them.
Anyway, so I now have the opportunity to upgrade the sounder.
I will be replacing it with Furuno TZT3 12inch which has Chirp capability.
Ive never had or used Chirp before. so my question is, is it any good? Or alternatively, should I stay with traditional echo??
I definately dont have a problem with traditional sounder, and at this stage I will get another TM260. (The transducer needs to be transom mount.)
If I choose to go with the Chirp, the transducer required will be the TM265LH.
The only difference I see with Chirp is it may be better at fish seperation, but with my fishing, I tend to look for ground not necessarily fish schools.
I fish general ground, 30m to 90m's with the odd occasional deep drop, so the 1kw is a not a comprimise.
Chasing some advise please. Thanks.
Cheers

Mark fish set up
Submitted by Assassin on Thu, 2022-03-10 16:23Hi I was wondering if some one can help me get my markfish to work? I have a 295 and want to link it to an hds7. I have wired it up going by the wiring diagrams for the 295 and markfish so im pretty sure I have that bit right. I have it set on 0183 in the 295 and have put in settings on the hds following previous threads on here but still can't get them to link. I have 11 satellites showing on the hds. When I press mark on the 295 it says no data position so I'm thinking it is something to do with the settings in the hds? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Charts for Furuno
Submitted by Greg77 on Mon, 2021-05-17 12:10I recently acquired a 1971F. I'm really happy with the sounder side of things, but the chart it came bundled with (CMAP 4D Australia Wide) is pretty ordinary, and seems tocontain much less contour detail than the navionics mobile app.
Is there a better Furuno compatible chart out there? I mainly fish August to Jurien.

B164 and A scope
Submitted by tot on Fri, 2021-04-16 13:59Hey guys , I'm in the process of getting an upgrade to the new (second hand) boat - Alison Angler195.
The hull has a keel plank and after inspection the advice is to go for a B164 through the plank to avoide strake bubbles with a shoot through or TM.
After checking out the specs on the Airmar site I would like to know of peoples experience with A scope in deeper water having read that A scope shows whats directly under.
The b164 cone is pretty big in deep water so I hope the A scope will put me ontop to pinpoint.

Furuno DFF3d
Submitted by Tim on Thu, 2020-06-25 19:51After a number of setbacks with the boat and installing a new fuel tank I finally got out to play with the new Furuno DFF3d setup.
Is a really different look and takes a bit to get used to after using the traditional Furuno sounder.
1st pic is the 3d view and the 2nd is the same ground in traditional sounder view.
The 3d view really lets you understand where the boat is in relation to the structure.
Picture 3 really highlights this with a mix of traditional, 3d and triple beam.
You can see the lumps on the traditional screen but the 3d shows that the lumps are positioned in different lines to the boat.
The triple beam gives you 3 differrent cones and allows you to tell if the better return is on the port starboard or under the boat.
Plan to play a lot more with this especially out around 180-200m so will be interesting to see how it goes.
Thought I would share some pics from the weekend. Finally got out deeper after a heap of rework on the boat and electronics.
The furuno DFF3d was working in 200m+ at 20 knots. Very impressed with that as I still need to worek on settings.

Sounder issue
Submitted by roddo on Mon, 2020-06-22 20:06Hi all
I'm having some problems with my furuno 585 It has a tm258 1kw transducer I have to have the gain up crazy high to pick up bottom in 50m of water I have to have the gain at 8 to pick up bottom and anything over 60m gain is on 10 and at 110m I loose bottom totally even if I am in neutral still wont pick up bottom but once I get back to 110m it starts to pick up bottom again but very patchy no chance of seeing fish until back in the 50m range could the tranny be stuffed? It doesn't get any clutter on the screen with a high gain like my old previous boat would with the same sounder. I'm running it in HF if I switch to LF the screen is just full of clutter and wont get any ground image. Not sure how old it is it came with the boat. Do I just bite the bullet and get another transducer.
Cheers Rod

Sounder Compare
Submitted by bsir on Sun, 2020-01-26 16:10
Thought a few people may be interested in these comparisons.
The first set of pics is comparing a HDS Gen2 with P66, a garmin 8410 with M265 and a Furuno 585 with P66.
The second set is much the same, but includes the garmin with both a GT51 (left) and M265 (right). To be fair, i had someone hanging over the stern of the boat holding the GT51 so it isnt a great picture.
To make it easy, they were all just running in Auto, no zoom etc.

Would you upgrade to a 588 from a 585
Submitted by roddo on Tue, 2020-01-21 10:02Hi all
IS there any benefit of upgrading a 585 to a 588 running a tm260 transducer. I'm struggling to see any massive benefits compared to cost. Does anyone actually use the accufish function???
Cheers
