Submitted by sambo24 on Thu, 2012-05-24 18:09Had a perfect day today. Worked the 5am-10am shift, then straight down to the marina to meet grandad at the boat. Loaded everything up and we were out by eleven. Little choppy at first, but it glassed right off around 2pm.
We got three Blackass, a foxfish (went back cause werent sure of the tastiness factor/whether they have a size limit) and a big ugly Port Jackson.
Heres my pb breaksea, went around 40ish.

Out wide unexpected....
Submitted by Foxy on Tue, 2012-05-22 23:59Left Safety Bay at sparrows with a pleasant NE and a plan to come home on the forecast seabreeze.
Stopped at SW Bank and picked up a nice Pink and a Queenie, but nothing else after trying a few of my old haunts.
Weather still good so kept heading west, dropping every now and then at promising looking flares on the sounder but
nothing significant.....
The Noreaster was dropping so thought I'd spend a bit of time looking around for new spots before heading home on the Souwester..
Mostly flat ground but then a 1metre ledge popped up with the Furuno going off all around...worth a drop..
Within 30 seconds of hitting the bottom felt a couple of good bites then nothing , but line slowly pulling off against the drag...
Initial thought was a snag but a few thumping tugs and half a dozen cranks to get off the bottom had me thinking...
As more line peeled off slowly. I tightened the drag to max, imagining a shark casually swimming away with all my braid...
10 minutes later I was getting my line back and thinking when it's near the boat I'll cut him free...
Got a bit of colour and by the size of it , changed my call to a stingray...Shortly after up pops the Dhuie !!!
Spooked a few seabirds with hoots as I pulled him thru' the backdoor....
There was no wind by now so had a comfortable 90 min trip home with a very satisfied grin all the way !!!

Weed
Submitted by roberta on Tue, 2012-05-22 14:53Well you sure can see the seaweed that was in Green Head, all the way up to Leeman, north of Leeman, thought it rather odd, as usually you see this kind of weed after the winter
Green Head between the jetty and boat ramp, some places knee to waist high, surge was dangerous at GH
photo of the colour of the water from the weed, head of a seal we watched eating a occie, beach shot of weed at Gumtree
then the photo of the Totem Pole, well I call it that, apparently its to celebrate 50yrs of crayfishing in Leeman, fireworks, market stalls and much more was celebrated at Easter of this year

Submitted by Lamby on Mon, 2012-05-21 19:08Shot out this morning before work for a quick fish & despite a reasonable weather forecast it was pretty blowy with a cross swell & quickly discovered a raging northerly current when the drifty went out... not good!
Discovered a new bit of gold little ground & scored this on the pink dildo
Decky got a nice 8kg dhuie & 2 BA's on bait to round the bag out quick

NZ life - land of the kiwi.
Submitted by terboz123 on Sun, 2012-05-20 21:39Whats up everyone......
Well its been a week since i have left, and i have been blown away by this place. My site i work the background is MT. Teranaki, i have never seen nor touched snow till last tuesday, and now i see it everyday. New Zealand is a stunning place, and reminds me so much of the highlands of scotland which were a highlight of my european backpacking trip in 2011. From windd roads heading in to the ranges, to spectacular views of places i yet know the name of. I have attached some photos....
Now to the fishing Today, i went out fly fishing for raninbow and browns. Now being winter , the spawning season has started and the fish, start heading up rivers to spawn. Unforunately this can be a tricky time to fly fish, this is known as the down season here. Even though there a huge fish agregations, of sometimes 10, the fish arnt feeding. And you need to consistently target one fish, and consistantly frustrate the fish into hitting the fly.
I had a great day, it started off with fly casting lesson then we mooved down into one of the main streams of taupo where the fish agregations are. I have to admit i never reallly understood fly fishing but now i have well and truelly been taken away. I fished a 6 weight i think or maybe a four, and lost many of fish as the striking technique got me in trouble...But eventuelly i nailed my fist rainbow followed by another 2. We came across a montster brown, pushing 10 pounds, and worked it for roughly 30 mins with out sucess which sucked!!
So the day wa basically a turtorial into fly fishing, and next sunday we are leaving the aggregations to head into streams, where feeding fish will be, and most likely much largers ones. Apparently the higher you go, the bigger they generally get. also im doing a weekender where we get on dirt bikes, and head off into the remote wilderness to camp at a cottage and hit up some very remote locations.
The guide i have is a ultimate lad, hes lent his fly rod to me to practise casting with all week, and is going to eventuelly get me set up with gear i need to start fishing the teranaki run offs my self by the end of the month!
here are some photos of the day! great action shots were taken by the guide and im rapped with them!
The face shot of me is the pure disbelief in walking out into negative 2 tempretures and ice all over my car! never experienced that in my life. and it was one cold morning
Fly fishing has got me hooked, in away to be honest there is more skill, in fact alot more skill then luck...all about technique and hunting/stalking fish was amazing in the location i was doing it! I cant wait to get back amongst it on sunday!!
Till next time

Been having alot of success on the kayak with some decent Mulloways and now these lovely couple of snapper i caught a few weeks ago off the kayak, I got the 69cm snapper first then the next drop got the bigger one which measure 81cm and 7.0kgs, they both put up a awsome fight on the shimano 4000 gear, and even more fun on the yak.
heres some pics.

Headed out on Tuesday with Blake from Oceanside. Fished some shallow ground for solid skippy. Dropped down a skippy fillet and nailed a 19kg dhuie(weighed). BLAIR move to a could more spots seen us nail a small wiskery shark, foxfish, leather jacket and harli on jig. Next drift Blake gets stitched in the reef on jig, probably a baldie or big dhu! I also lost a good fish on a drift baited mulie.
Headed out yesterday first drop mate nailed a NW Blowie haha next drop he got an eel( he was happy when I nailed an undersize dhu) change of location seen me nail a 7.8kg pink frist drift. Next drift hook another pink but dropped him half way up! Another drift nothing so time to was to the land of the giants!!!
First drop I got a baldie on a drift baited bony herring. My mate an 18.5kg dhu. Ok 1 more fish and where put of here. Another drift mate hooks up and a small dhuie size but released and I got. 9kg :)
Now time to do it all again tomorrow with a couple of dives for jumbos!!!

Pink & Glow Dildo's
Submitted by Lamby on Fri, 2012-05-18 09:30Managed to find a day off from work & building decks / fences at home to head out with Doaky (it was also a big thanks to him & his Carpentry skills which are as good as his fishing)
Bit of hit & miss this time of year to find the dhu’s holding up which had us concocting a game plan to visit some old ground out wide that should produce. Fished this area about 2 months ago for one dhuie but different story this time around with a fair few tagged & the good un’s spiked & on ice. Just shows how much Dhuies move around down here!
It was plastics over jigs this day & the big dildo’s do the damage (don’t they always!) Scored this one on the pink mamba
I was going well on the scorecard until Seaquest trumped me well & truly with a nice male that went just under a metre & 17kg… muthatrucka! Taken on the glow mamba

3 weeks in Leeman
Submitted by roberta on Thu, 2012-05-17 17:22Hi Guys and Gals.
Just had 3 weeks in Leeman, what can I say a bit of rain, cool mornings and lovely days with a very gentle sea breeze late in the afternoon.
Didn't take the boat, so was hoping to have a nice fish on the beach, WRONG, north, south full of weed on all beaches. Some beaches we couldn't get on due to a very high tide, which was for the first 2 weeks, the surge was monsterous, would have hated to try and put the boat on the trailer, in fact it looked dangerous. Water in close was like mud. Went to Green Head, took some photos of the weed there, surge was just about going up the full length of the ramp, water looked like it had floaties in it hahahah but must say what a relaxing time, the Caravan Pk was empty so very soothing listening to the birds and most days nothing else.
Will put some photos up of the weed on the beaches in Leeman and Green Head, boy did it smell as well, the seagulls enjoyed the larvae that was being washed from the weed into the water from the big surge.
Town ramp if not cleared by the Council was knee to waist high in weed, Sea rescue ramp the same but it seemed most boaties used that ramp.
ps..guess who forgot her password AGAIN for the laptop gggrrrr blonde moment again

Moore river bream report!
Submitted by brenz on Mon, 2012-05-14 09:04With the mandurah classic next weekend myself and my classic's partner Aaron decided that Moore river would be a good idea to wind down try a few new techniques and more or less have a chat about the plan of attack. What made this day interesting to me was the amount of breamers comming into the shop saying how " in the past year the bream sizes have really decreased due to dirty baito's , the river is only full of runts" . Now the last time i fished the moore properly was around a year ago but i never really remembered it to be quite like that , but none the less they still assured me i was wrong and that they were right.
So we launched the Coraline at 7 am from the town ramp (yes i know lazy :D ) and shot straight across the other side . I had all my rods pre rigged So whilst Aaron was tying on his weapons i put a cast onto the first rock and BANG the bass minnow was hit and i was on , now this fish wasnt huge but at 26 fork length it was big enough to get the confidence up. Second cast was put in to only have one twitch and i was on again , this time it was a rat.
A few more rats kept us busy then halfway along the bank (where the water is deepest ) zzzzzzzzzzzzz of goes the bass minnow again and up comes a very healthy , fat fish at 30 to the fork , by this stage i was feeling pretty good about the start to the day got a few quick snapshots of the fish and off it went.
After saying to Aaron " not sure where these plague rats are " i threw the plastic up on the same part of the bank and it was picked up straight away again by a fish that went 29 fork length.
After that fish the bream went quiet but that was only due to a few larger tailor that Aaron managed to hook and have some fun with so we decided it was off to diamond island.
Diamond island was slower than expected with the majority of the fish caught on gulp crabbys and fry but with no fish over the 26 odd cm mark we got bored rather quickly and shot back down to the dunes.
Within 3 casts ath the dunes Aaron boated a few healthy legals on Camo Crabbys (damn do these plastics get strikes ) and i was standing there wondering why the faithfull pearl water mellon minnow was swimming untouched , this is when all hell broke loose.
For all who have fished the moore you will know the snags that are sitting approx 300m down river of the dunes. One cast onto the end of the first snag and i felt TAP......TAP.........BOOOM the fish was off and after a short fight another fish of 32 to the fork was boated . I turned to Aaron and commented on how big and healthy the fish where but wasnt sure if we were going to see anything bigger for the day, I have put another cast onto the end of the snag and ass the lure hit the water it was followed by a large boil and the rod loaded up . This fish gave a better account for itself and after a few nervous moments up came a larger Moore river bream , this one went 37 to the fork and was fat as hell!
We worked those snags for a bit longer before working our way back to the mouth were we proceeded to boat another 15 odd fish between us with another 31 ,32 fork lenght bream in the mix.
By this time it was 12.30 and decided it was time for the drive back to perth .
So in conclusion to this moore river is certainly not been hit by a freak runt population of bream as 70%percent of our fish were legal wich made for an action packed morning.
Gear used were
Rods: patriarch 6"10 1-3kg
Reels : pflueger patriarch 030 , and pflueger supreme xt
Lures: gulp crabby camo , gulp fry watermellon, berkly 3" minnow pearl watermellon and pearl blue shad.
cheers Brenz

Saturday night fish out wide.
Submitted by Fraser 5.25 on Sun, 2012-05-13 16:15Went out last night from Dawsville out for a night fish in the 40-50 metre mark. Got a Harliquin, a Black ass, 61cm Dhu and a 78cm Dhu fish. My uncle lost the first fish and decided to wind up and the big dhu chased it up to smash it. I had just wound up a sized snapper on board which would have been our last fish but I decided to wait and see what my uncle had on his line. Glad I didn't dispatch the snapper because it was an easy choice once I saw what was on his line, snapper went back to fight another day. Broke his landing net handle bringing it on board. I think it looked better with me holding it for photos;) and sorry for the poor quality of the photos, iphone isn't the best for night time photos. The wings off of the big dhu were a slab of meat in themselves. Wednesday night, here I come.

HAD A FLAT TIME THIS ARVO
Submitted by tim-o on Sat, 2012-05-12 21:08I was keen to bust my soft plastic lure hymen and having got into some good skippy action at my new spot I decided to make the most of this arvos fine weather and head solo to the spot. Dropped anchor and burleyed up the skips in no time so on went a squidgy flick bait. Shortly after the slow decent to the bottom and a bit of a rod lift and bang I was on but not a skippy, I thought "bloody wrass" and then up appeared a blue spot flatty! My first fish on a plastic! After high fiven meself down went the placcy again and in between some good skippy, 3 more flattys were landed in quick succession and one more even followed a hooked skip up to the surface. Biggest went 46, and man they are good on the chew, almost like crab meat. I seriously need a lesson in filleting them tho. The big bait on a balloon had a few runs with no hook up and also got an eagle ray on me bait caster, great arvo, Im hooked on placcys now, the flattys prob never wanted me bait on a hook, a lure to trigger their predatory instincts is the go! Cant wait to get me young bloke on to a fish on a plastic now, no more baitn hooks, woohoo!

Exmouth Trip First GT, First Marlin! (Pic Heavy)
Submitted by monstaf1sh on Sat, 2012-05-12 11:50Just got back from Exmouth and had planned this trip starting with Eddy on Peak sportfishing and then out on our own with hire boats from Exmouth boat hire.
Leading up to the dates the weather was beauftiful but unfortunately for us that all changed when we got there, we left on the Thursday and the weather went back to beautiful forecasting wind being around 5knots with swell 0.7-0.8m today, just my luck :(
Our hire Boats were unproductive with one of them going to waste as we didn't even bother to launch.
We did however get lucky on the day of the charter and got at least one great day of fishing, anyways here are some pics of the trip.
First GT ever on a plastic :P

Deepdropping -Today's catch
Submitted by wangler on Fri, 2012-05-11 20:27It was decided that I was only going for a squid sesh, just outside of Hillary's, as the weather was looking crap for a fish outside 3 mile. Then a late decision to throw in the heavy gear aswell just in case. My deckie (anypuddle) convinced me to head deep, the ride out was lumpy, but we pushed on to the 100's. It was pretty messy going. Got to the 100's, after 40km's and said 'this is crap, should we turn back ?' My deckie also had 2nd thoughts by this stage, but then I had a thought - stuff you we came this far, just another 20km's to go so toughen up! just to be mean..lol. All this time looking behind and thinking it's going to be a slow trip home, would take about 3hrs....
Got to this spot, 1st drop, sea anchor out and suprisingly, no current and holding bottom very easily.....5 more drifts and this was the result ! The biggest GB went about 25kg plus
Heading home for the 1st 15km's was 15 - 20kph.....but then got to the 120's and things started to look good....it just got better and better so all up only took 2hrs to get back by 2:30pm ! Thank God !
