trailer roller cleaning
Submitted by mako magic on Sun, 2010-05-30 21:27well got back from Exmouth and gave the boat a good scrub, finally got alot of the roller marks off from the underneath of the hull.
obviously its still going to happen until they are cleaned, so my question is whats best to clean them so they stop marking the hull?
there is way too many to replace and will cost a small fortune so surely theres a way to clean them so they stop the marks for a while.

Formosa Tomahawk Centre Cab - Opinions
Submitted by Brucesta on Tue, 2010-05-25 13:47G'Day Guys,
The Formosa range of boats has caught my eye for quite a while and i know 2 others also considering purchasing one and i'm chasing opinions from any owners or those who have been in one, preferably a 5.8m version. Looking to upgrade to a 6.2m Centre Cab version ready for Exmouth next year, going to look at a 5.5m one this Friday but opinions on how they ride and the performance with Xhp motor is appreciated.
Salesmen are good but they are really looking for a sale in the end and i won't have time to take one for a test drive.
Cheers lads.

what to do??
Submitted by ferret027 on Thu, 2010-05-20 21:21Just after a few opinions...
About 18months ago brought a 17ft runabout for 10k from a local boatyard!!! Only to hav the hull shit its self on the 6th trip out...!!!! So I have saved up and brought myself another 2nd hand hull(douglas craft 5.3 nothing pretty but solid) and put it on my original trailer with the idea of transfering my motor over, only to find out off the boat yard today that i need a 25" leg and my 75hp is only 20". It was suppose to be a cheap way out to get on the water but has back fired, so i can either cut dwn the trandom to get this motor on or spend the time and make it look pretty whilst i save for a motor that fits and power the boat to full capability with a 90hp...its going to cost me about 3500 to have all the work done to get on the water in a couple of weeks or do i spend the time and money?????
any feed back would be great in regard to project etc

Solo beach launch/retrieve?
Submitted by butch33 on Wed, 2010-05-19 18:53Due to work hours sometimes its hard to get a decky and I have never solo beach launched and retrieved. Launching is ok as I have third wheel on trailer but should I anchor boat while parking car? I have seen a few people retrieve on cable beach and the method I like is beaching boat, then drag boat up beach with car and trailer, then reverse trailer under boat and winch on. Anyone else have any good methods? When dragging boat up beach where should I attach rope on trailer and boat?
I have a 4.2mt tinny.

Help me with my transducer before I scuttle the boat, please..............
Submitted by Muppet on Fri, 2010-05-14 18:07Hi guys,
I am in need of help................... with my transducer. I have just purchased a furuno 585 with a 1kw transom mount transducer. I know there have been many topics already aired on this but I am pulling what is left of my hair out.
It's on a Haines Hunter 680 Patriot with a Mercruiser sterndrive. It has trim tabs on its arse also.
I have adhered to the 'instructions' when mounting the transducer. There are no strakes, chines or through hull fittings to caused turbulance.
I have taken the boat out everyday this week to try and get the unit up and running but the best i seem to get out of it if i am lucky is 15knots on 200hz, after that the picture breaks up and the screen goes blank but still gives a depth.
I have tried adusting the bracket up and down and have moved it further out to the starboard side, which improved it a bit. I have increased the angle and decreased but to no avail.
I would have expected a fairly good picture at speed from a1kw transducer, especially in shallow water. I have been testing it in about 10 - 15mt.
Some people have told me it may just be the hull shape and i am lucky that i am getting 15 knots out of it, but when reading the forums, some of you guys reckon you are getting a good picture at 30 knots.
I have run the transducer cable up the centre of the boat, over the aluminum fuel tank. It runs close to the alternator, about 300mm or maybe a bit less ?(could be part of the problem??)
I have been trying to track down mako for his advice whilst he is in exmouth, but cant spy him. Unfortunatly i'm not in the comp this weekend.
Any ideas, i have included some pics, but dont know if they can show the correct angles etc.
your help is appreciated.
Kev.

New (2nd Hand) Stacer Advise
Submitted by dagree on Mon, 2010-05-10 23:01As some of you are aware we have the Swifty up for sale. Been looking around to see what is out there to give us an idea of what to look for.
Found a 2006 Stacer Seamaster 519 (5.3 mtr?) with 90 HP Merc 2 stroke and only done 23 hours going for a good price.... and no Black Anchor or 2 vs 4 stroke comments coz had Mercs and Mariner before with no probs!!!!
They built in same factory as quintrex so just wondering about quality difference as we were leaning towards a quinnie coastrunner 530!!
Just wondering if anyone has any experience good/bad with these boats.
Cheers,
David

Marine Mechanic Needed
Submitted by boyscout on Sat, 2010-05-08 08:00Hi guys, I just purchased my first boat. It is a work in progress.
As it is only my first boat I am looking for a mechanic to come to my house, have a look at the engine, the steering. Basically an over all look at it.
As I understand it the motor need a good looking at. The steering needs attention too.
I am not looking at a service or any particular work done.
I would like to pay a mechanic to come round check it out. Do a once over and quote me on the work that will be required.
I am not too sure of the motor brand or model as it isn't branded.
If anyone is keen please message me and I will call you.

Trailcraft powers ahead
Submitted by Brett Martin on Wed, 2010-05-05 13:33Hello Everyone - My name is Brett Martin and i am the owner (past present and future) of Trailcraft Boats.
Since i started Trailcraft over 10 years ago, i have often logged on to different forums to read what people are saying about Trailcraft. I have never included myself within the forum discussions because i believe it best that a forum run independantly of someone who has a vested interest in giving opinions. I would like to be a part of the forum in the future, but it will only be on the basis of everyone knowing that i am the owner of Trailcraft and my obvious thinking that Trailcraft is the best.
Their has been alot of miss-information written about Trailcraft and i thought this a great opportunity for everyone to hear it from the "horses mouth". As with most boat manufacturers - Trailcraft has had a tough time through the GFC - the good news is we have come through this period stronger and better - a bit wiser and a bit leaner.
*We have been and are currently producing boats.
*We have retained "selectively" the prodominance of our Australian dealer network.
*We have increased our warranty from 3-5 years on all new boats produced
*We are continuing to support our brand and warranty - now and in the future
*We will remain a national powerhouse brand.
I would like to thank all of you for your supportive - favourable and constructive comments in the past.
To the existing Trailcraft owners (6000 australia wide) - i would like to thank you for your loyalty and hope you get many more hours enjoyment from your boat.
Thanks everyone - Cheers Brett

Dicky Lowrance LCX-25C
Submitted by Trigger-Happy on Sat, 2010-05-01 11:19I have a real niggly problem with my Lowrance LCX-25C combo unit. The depth sounder will only pick up the bottom accurately down to about 8 meters.
I have checked all connections and transducer etc. Also played around with the bottom lock, range, sensitivity etc. Does anyone have a magic bullet to fix this.
The next step for me will be an adjustment (few solid whacks) with the fish pacifier if I can't work it out soon. Appreciate any help.
