lowrance chartplotter problem, help!
Submitted by Adonis on Mon, 2009-09-14 11:16Hey guys,
Rocked up to woodies on sunday to chase some pinkies before the squid comp and as i turn on my chartplotter it comes up with a message like this:
Made me realise how much i really do rely on it for navigation. Anyway i have checked all the wires and they are all fine which leads me to thinking it maybe the actual unit or gps reciever that is cactus? Has anyone ever had this problem before? I went out about a week previously and it worked fine. Since then i have done nothing different except i didn't put the cover on the boat?
Any ideas???
Cheers,
Pete

TROPHY...or Bay Liner!
Submitted by Baron Custom on Sat, 2009-09-05 19:47I was going to buy a trophy, 10 year hull warrantee, great looking, load's of extras... Then i read some stuff on the net about them lining the bay's, On the bottom that is etc, etc... Are thay just a bit jealous or is there something to this? How can some of these boats be disasters and others fantastic if they are all off the same line? They say entry level boat hu, new it would be the most expensive thing i own apart for my house. If I am to buy one new, I want to know that my toy is a safe one, not just pretty. Are these boats any good? Heard some folk (owners) that they are fantastic ra ra, also heard some horror stories of how they have neally sunk as new. I have also read that I am better off spending my money buying the hull I want, doing it up and re-powering with a 4 stroke. I would love to hear some stories, good or bad of your experiences first hand with any model of these trophies. At the moment I am re-doing a small Baron Sportsman (19ft), but eventually would love to buy a new boat, just very scared of spending that much money and being crushed with disappointment. I don't expect to make money when buying a new boat, but have to know I am safe and that there are some sort of workmanship standards. All comments appreciated. Cheers, Darryl

Boat length measurement
Submitted by kane on Sun, 2009-08-30 03:48At the recent boat show in Perth it seemed obvious to me that some boats of the stated same size were bigger than others.
I think from memory chivers and coraline maybe were more generous than some others with boats claiming to be the same size.
With this in mind I have always thought boats were measured at the water line??????????
I guess the reason I am extra curious now is I have been looking at building an ally kit boat, you know the pre cut ones you weld togethor in your workshop at home...
here is one of the options I am looking at. It is a 6.5 metre cat....but is it really 6.5 metres? it shows the total length of the hull to be 6.5 but not the water line. Is this normal or am I right in thinking its probably more like an ohnest 6 metre boat?

Fuel Flow
Submitted by Rick on Tue, 2009-08-18 20:53Have been toying with the idea of fitting a fuel flow meter of some description in the boat.
Have a good idea of fuel consumption against miles travelled. More for watching fuel usage at different rev ranges and trim of the motor.
Just wondering how many boats are running them and how much benefit it is ?. The motor I'm running is a Mercruiser 4.2.
I'm sure there would be a few different types out there, curious to know peoples thoughts and experiences

Fury 282 Centre Console '2009 WA boat of the year'
Submitted by Bodie on Tue, 2009-08-18 09:24For those who made the trip down to the boat show, probably would have noticed the Fury 282 (28ft) Centre console won 2 awards this year.
WA 2009 Boat of the year and WA 2009 Innovative design awards.
Fury Custom boats and westbuilt are having an open demo day at point walter this weekend 10am - 3pm this Sunday for any who are interested.
I own a Fury 26 cc and can say they are very well built boats, and great quality. Have experianced quite a few different glass cc's and have not found one to perform aswell on the water as the Fury.
The 282 at the boat show looked sensational!!!! and is Locally built too..
Anyone interested go down for a look and have a chat to scott.

Chivers Sportfisherman for Sale***SOLD***
Submitted by Cammos on Mon, 2009-08-17 21:48With my interest in a new boat rapidly increasing, the time has come to move my Sportfisherman on to a new home. This boat is of the old school, layers upon layers of glass, strong stern drive Mercruiser and the ability to get through the sea without displacing any vertebrae. I have gone Hillarys to Rotto return in around 45L so you don't need a bulging wallet to get into boating.
I have listed it online, so feel free to have a look at the ad http://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/trailer-boats.php?de=56756
I am asking $17990, but will negotiate on price and what electronics stay in the boat. I do want this gone though, so give me a call or PM. You never know what might happen.

Commodore 670
Submitted by Cammos on Mon, 2009-08-17 18:44Hey Guys - The Boat Show has got me fired up to get into a new boat for this summer. Considering I had 2 boats last summer this may become the norm.
I had a glance at a 22' Commodore today. I have been really happy with the hull performance of my Chivers so I am nervous about going to something that doesn't perform well. I am really chasing more deck room for divers. Does anyone have anything to say about these hulls? I have it in my head that Commodores have a bit of a loyal following among their users. If you want to PM that is cool too.
Thanks
Matt

Submitted by King-Prawn on Wed, 2009-08-12 10:28Hi All,
Would any one know where to obtain new brackets for above Transducer. The port side plastic bracket has snapped. There is no damage to the mount on the stern or the actual module. Just the little plastic L shaped bit that joins the two by 3 bolts.
Thankyou

help 6 horse johno impeller
Submitted by mitch on Mon, 2009-07-27 16:48ive got an old old 6 horse johnson [fisherman] outboard that i use on a 12 ft tinnie as a tender when camping .the old girl starts spitting steam instead of water arfter about ten minutes .hense i need to change the impeller and probably the pump housing itself .the problem is how do i get the leg off to expose the water pump .ive done several impellers on bigger legs which usualy means unclipping or pulling a pin of some sort to release the gear linkage .but with this old girl i cant even see the gear linkage rod as it seems to go straight into the motor itself.ive undone the gearbox prop end and can get it to drop about half an inch but am a bit scared to give it the old heave ho incase im busting something up the top .
any help would be magical .

trim tabs and motor fins???
Submitted by mako magic on Mon, 2009-07-20 10:15Looking at fitting some trim tabs onto the boat , never had them before only had the hydrofoil type fin on the engine, which worked well, and the honda on the new boat doesnt have one, what i was wondering is whether it will still be beneficial to run a fin on the engine after i put the trim tabs on.
Will it make a difference or will it be worse off running both?

GPS!!!
Submitted by Bodie on Wed, 2009-07-15 09:30Just about to buy a new GPS.
Currently looking at the Lowrance HDS-7m and HDS-8m.
Anyone have either of these?
Putting in a new sounder and GPS, sounder will be a Furuno 585 and one of the GPS's above.
Main reason i was looking at the lowrance was because of the Navionics charts.
Has anyone heard of any issues with the internal antennas in these units? apparently all lowrance HDS units come with internal antennas, but can option up for an external. The guy at the boat shop said no need?
Prices so far are $1,400 for the HDS-7m and $2,400 for the HDS-8m.
Cheers guys
