How have you attached your lights to bimini?
Submitted by t bone on Fri, 2014-07-25 14:36Gday all.
I have been playing around with ideas of a set of lightbars for the boat (got some spares laying around) they are about 13" long, dont weigh a great deal and was thinking of an easily removable way to attach to the leading edge of the bimini for those few morning you want to beat the rush. Has anyone gone down this road, and got a few pics to share the wealth?

Fuel sitting in tank
Submitted by saltlife on Fri, 2014-07-25 10:07Hey Guys, my boat has been laid up for a few weeks now (due to work commitments) and I'm just wondering what you blokes do with the fuel sitting in your tank?
I try and keep mine full at all times but after coming back from a fishing trip its only 1/4 full (a 530l fuel tank is a lot of extra weight when towing).
Would you fill it back up or can you put an additive in it to capture any moisture due to condensation?
Obvious answer just keep using it!!!
Cheers

Boat gone missing
Submitted by carnarvonite on Thu, 2014-07-24 19:43Got a call from the police yesterday arvo requesting I contact Gnaraloo station about a boat that had dragged or lost its anchor. Seems 4 blokes were diving and when they surfaced their 5 metre tinny was nowhere to be seen.
They were lucky to survive a 2 hour swim back to shore as anyone who has dived up there can vouch for. Not entirely sure where exactly the boat went from but from my estimates just north of the sanctuary zone.
Going by past results my reckoning is the boat should come in round Cape Farquar or further north towards Warroora, that is if its anchor doesn't snag up while the boat is in the breakers, signalling the end of it

Coxy to retire
Submitted by Dale on Mon, 2014-07-21 10:50Speculation is mounting that Coxy is set to announce his retirement today at a press conference called for midday today. If that's the case, let me be the first to say farewell to a true champion of the game, a guy that came from pretty well nowhere and took the game by storm, well done big fella, loved seeing you in purple the day you lost a bet and had to walk down South Terrace in a Freo jumper. Good sport and all round good bloke. Enjoy your retirement.
Cheers

le Tour de France
Submitted by lachieH on Sat, 2014-07-19 23:20Anyone watching it? I've been staying up late every night to watch the finish. I would love to see Porte win but sadly he won't now. My favourite team is BMC and I do a lot of recreational bike rides at least once a week 30km and wear the BMC top proudly. Who do you want to win?

Ant Invasion Help
Submitted by Bruce on Wed, 2014-07-16 14:07Hi guys, gave the engine a crank over today and what i noticed was that there was a f**kload of ants everywhere. Checked the engine incase they were in there but seems fine and started and ran well. Just wondering if someone could recommend how to get rid of them- is there some sort of spray i could use or something of the like? Taking it for a run tomorrow to hopefully flush them out.
Thanks in advance

Port v Melbourne, four weeks ago this would have been a no brainer.... um, port without confidence.
Bulldogs v essendon, the bombers have a sniff of finals and the teams around them are trying hard for an early season finish. Essendon but not by much.

you have $300 - $400 to spend
Submitted by Deleted on Sat, 2014-07-12 21:25since i swam my last combo to the bottom of the indian ocean its time to start looking again, unfortunatly the budget will be short of amazing so i need you guys to get creative, (mainly on the rod)
if you had $300 - $400 preferable $300 to spend on a rod, reel and braid for plastic fishing demersals up to 50m what would your choice be? i have almost locked in a 3000 - 4000 size stradic fj (still debatable) contemplating CI4, i have no rod and no real idea, to many to choose from (too much of the search function has me f#$@%ed). what would your choice be, i would like to run 20lb max braid prefer a challenge of 15lb.
i have searched these forums and all it does is confuse me. yes i am in contact with local tackle shops and site sponsors, just wanted the opinion of someone like me that can make the less then high end budget gear work for them.
cheers lads and i know your all sick of these posts so my suggestion would be, let the site sponsors put up a sticky for ideal combos (all ranges) that would be updated from time to time, maybe remove the jurien sticky and the release wait sticky, iam sure iam way out of my depth here with the whole site updating thing so feel free to gently shut me down, just an idea.
cheers in advance for your comments guys and be nice

Wilbinga
Submitted by tadpole on Sat, 2014-07-12 04:23Just wondering if you are still allowed to camp at Wilbinga? Did a bit of googling and can't find anything recent. Seems you could 12 months ago but apparently the place gets trashed so wouldn't be surprised if it has been banned there. Just looking at a quick getaway next weekend and looking for somewhere my daughter can sleep in a tent while I have a fish nearby

Abrolhos Islands visits
Submitted by bod on Wed, 2014-07-09 13:17Just came across this on the Fisheries site, thought it might be worth putting up.
VESSEL MASTERS MUST NOTIFY FISHERIES OF ABROLHOS ISLANDS VISITS
Commercial and recreational fishers can now fish at the Abrolhos Islands any time of the year, provided they advise the Department of Fisheries via a simple notification process.
The department has developed the new arrangements in consultation with Recfishwest and the commercial fishing sector.
Midwest Regional Manager Ron Shepherd said the old off-season notification requirement had become outdated, with the significant changes to the patterns and the times of year that both commercial fishers and recreational boaters visit and fish at the Abrolhos.
“The Houtman Abrolhos has been the domain of the commercial rock lobster industry for over 40 years and, with the move to a quota management system, has seen big changes to when operators fish and the times they stay in their camps,” Mr Shepherd said.
“It will be the responsibility of the Master of commercial and recreational vessels entering the Abrolhos Islands Fish Habitat Protection Area, at any time, to submit a notification.”
Mr Shepherd said notification of a visit had become vitally important in managing public access to the remote Abrolhos Islands reserve and in protecting public and private infrastructure and environmental values of the island group.
“The Houtman Abrolhos is a remote area and public safety is a key concern. In the event of an emergency situation, the notification will provide critical information on who is at the islands, where they are and how to contact them," he said.
“Fish stocks at the Houtman Abrolhos are highly valued, but they are experiencing growing fishing pressure. The notification will assist in monitoring activity and fishing effort and will help us point visitors to important information about fishing rules and protected areas.”
For the recreational sector, a simple notification form is available on the department’s website. Alternatively, a form can be obtained at the Geraldton office and notification can be submitted in person, or via email to . Work is underway to streamline the notification process even further, and a new online system will be in place very soon.
For commercial operators, nominations made in accordance with their fishery management plans will generally be sufficient. For camp owners, the Bodies Corporate are developing an online nomination system with the support of the Department of Fisheries.
For more information on the Abrolhos Islands go to www.fish.wa.gov.au, or contact the Geraldton office on 9920 8400.

you know your getting old
Submitted by petermac on Tue, 2014-07-08 19:08you know your getting old when you curse when you realize you have hooked a 20kg sambo and consider cutting the line , but decide you want that 200meters of braid it has striped of the reel back before you cut it of and you then end up collapsed on the deck of the boat and your best mate says "better bring an oxygen bottle for you next time we go fishing"
