Need expertise from a Plumber
Submitted by Buz on Mon, 2012-02-27 21:56Need advice from a Plumber to do with what appears to be wetness getting in behind the paint on the wall of bathroom and laundry(they are back to back so share the same wall) and is seemingly making paint bubble. I am half wondering if it is the bathroom pipes in the wall that may be leaking??????
Would greatly appreciate it if anyone with this sort of expertise could come have a look and tell me what it is or isnt.
Live in Morley.
Thanks Buz.

Your favorite old reel and is it still in use
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Mon, 2012-02-27 07:49I know there are a lot of older fishos on here, just wondering what your fave old reel (over 10yo) is and is it still in use.
mine would have to be my sigma shakespear that i bought as a teen with my hard earned money. it is now 26 yo and still going strong. at the time it cost me from memory $110, back then it was a lot of money , concidering my weekly wage was a grand total of $94 for a 40 hour week. havnt caught anything big on it for a while now but still running as smooth now as it did when i got it

Xtreme specials and update
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Sun, 2012-02-26 20:20Hi all, hope the fishing gods have been taking care of you all.
Time for an Xtreme update.
Nearly at the end of Feb and summer is fast coming to an end. My mind is already thinking about my trips North.
With this in mind we have the following specials available at the moment.
1. Free postage on the Evapac vac machine in the metro area. The machine costs $210.00
Postage to anywhere else in the country is only $12.00
The Evapac machine is a cryovac machine that i have been testing and using for the past 4 years. It is very powerful, easy to use, smart as it has an inbuilt moisture safety system, continuous and packs away neatly. The machine comes with 25 bags and suction lids for jars.
We sell three sizes of bags: small=100, medium=50 and large= 25. All boxes of bags are $35.00
Time to stock up now before heading North. Suction sealing your catch results in a much better quality feed. The results will speak for themselves.
2. Fibreglass specials on seconds range.
I have a small number of fibreglass boxes available at the moment. The range is very hard to get. I have two sizes at the moment.
XTFG50litre: For FW members $150.00
XTFG80litre: For FW members $180.00
A seconds product means there is an aesthetic irregularity. It could be scratches, gell coat blemishes or something that means it can't be sold as an A grade product. It does not affect their cooling efficiency and they are a great product that works just as well as the A grade stock.
3. The best for last
XT100litre Mackerel box blue and the Evapac Cryovac machine combo.
Cost: $400.00 Save: $80.00 on full price. You will fit a lot more in this box than you think. I use this box up north and fit in good numbers of reds, rankin, tuna, macks etc. It also sits very well in the boat, either at the back as a seat or straight down the middle (my preference) Check out Damo's pic from down in Dunsborough. Thanks Damo. Get some mates together and share the cost.
To take advantage of these specials or to view any products in the Xtreme range, simply PM or phone Dave on 0403978583.
Cheers and bring on the FW comp in Exxy, go you South dogs.

Exmouth report, good :) and bad :(
Submitted by Rodrat on Sun, 2012-02-26 09:10Hi All
Well we are home after 7 days in Exxy. This was my 8 year olds first trip away with the boys.
Weather treated us fairly well with at least 4 reasonable days out in our hire boat.
Fishing was pretty slow, we did manage a few spanglies each day with a mackie, mangrove jack and lots of sharks!!!!!
Water colour was still poor with dark green and brown patches all around, even the shallows around the islands were poor.
Wednesday night 22/2/12 i was robbed! Some scumbag or scumbags got into our boat and stole $2500 worth of my rod/reels and lures!
I did report it to the local police in exxy. With Gamex and the Fishwrecked comp coming up plz be aware and dont leave anything in ya boats at night.
Stolen: Diawa Sealane reel loaded with 80lb orange frog braid on a Shimano Tcurve 24kg rod.
Shimano Tekota 700 loaded with yellow 50lb braid on a mariners 10-15kg rod
Shimano Arelex 6000 loaded with 30lb yeloow braid on a Okuma graphite 10-15kg rod
Saltwater lab lure wrap with 60 hardbodied and skirted lures in it.
I have been visiting exxy now for 20 years and this is the first time i have been stolen from, if any one can help with info or you see any of this gear for sale
contact me via pm or report it to Exmouth police. Cheers

. I used to do heaps of country driving and would have gone bonkers without quality music, i`ve just reached the old fart category

Getting my toyota Prado more torque ?
Submitted by bluemule on Thu, 2012-02-23 20:11Hi to everyone,
Can anyone help me get my 1998 V6 petrol a bit more torque/ power?
I have owned her since new.She has done 311,000km to date, just had the timing belt changed plus all fan belts replaced.I have changed the oil and filter every 5000km with out fail with mobil 1, and had the transmisson serviced every 20,000km with new filter, to keep her long term. We are making another trip this April Sydney to Exmouth towing 6m platey fully loaded over 7 days. When we get head winds the highway speeds do become painful. Tail winds we can cruise at 95 100ks. Tyres are set to max! Car/ boat is polished, to help reduce drag. Havn't cracked lotto yet!

Simplifying WA's fishing rules
Submitted by bod on Wed, 2012-02-22 21:10The Department of Fisheries has released a draft strategy, to help simplify Western Australia’s recreational fishing rules.
Director General Stuart Smith said the State’s current set of fishing rules had developed with different rules for different regions, which are now complex and cumbersome.
“It is time to look at all the rules, to help deliver better fishing experiences and also ensure the long-term sustainability of WA’s highly valued fish stocks,” Mr Smith said. “The vast majority of fishers do the right thing and follow the rules, but we can make things easier for the more than 600,000 people who enjoy recreational fishing.
“Fishing is a popular recreational activity across the State and moving to simplify the rules will help create better understanding of them. Now that we are reviewing the rules, it is very important that recreational fishers have a chance to consider and comment on the proposals.”
Mr Smith said Recfishwest would facilitate community consultation and collate feedback on the draft strategy, so it could be taken into account before any changes were finalised.
“Under the proposed new framework, the focus will be on mixed species bag limits, rather than individual species bag limits,” he said. “Mixed species limits are intended to provide broad protection to the entire suite of species within a resource. Replacing current finfish species bag limit categories with new resource-based categories, for example demersal, near-shore/estuarine and offshore pelagic, will help simplify rules consistent with Fisheries’ management strategies.”
The Director General said the focus of recreational fishing in WA needed to be on the quality of the experience and enjoying eating fresh fish, not the ‘fill the freezer’ mentality of the past.
“With limited fish stocks available, we need to continue the good progress already made by the recreational fishing sector in moving away from bringing back large quantities of fish to eat for months after an individual trip,” he said.
“To help keep WA’s fish for the future goal, a key proposal is to reduce the State-wide fillet possession limit to ten kilograms, for species other than large offshore pelagics like tuna and mackerel. Reducing the possession limit will help managers effectively address future sustainability concerns for demersal species in regions such as the Gascoyne and Pilbara.
“I urge fishers to take part in the review process, to help simplify recreational fishing.”

Tackle HQ Jigging Tutorial Day 21/02/2012
Submitted by hit n run on Wed, 2012-02-22 13:32
It was again a fantastic day on the water with Whitey. The morning started off very slow with plenty of fish on the sounder but not anything substantial hitting the jigs until the tide change around 9.30am.
We tried for a few Sambos on a wreck site as the demersals were shut down early in the day but again not much joy.
I suggested we try some soft plastics but even with the Zmans and Mcarthys on and the sounder lit up nothing wanted to touch our offerings.
Whitey said to us that as soon as the tide changed it would be game on and he was right once again.
The day was nearly glassed off with hardly any drift unlike the predictions on willy weather, sea breeze etc.
The jigs were dropped and because of the fantastic conditions we only needed to use 80 to 150 gram jigs all day.
There were a good variety of fish caught and the stand outs were Ians 15kg dhui, Matts big baldy and Chris’s 20kg YTK.
All the passengers had a great time and all caught fish on jigs and over 70 fish were landed between us all
There was a buzz on the way home when 2 marlin were seen free jumping in front of the boat and the game reels, pushers and teasers were deployed but after an hour or so of trolling no luck.
We stopped at the same wreck on the way back to the marina and every drop resulted in striped tuna, sambos and Chris's monster YTK
Thanks to Maz for donating the $100 gift voucher and the winning fish was Chris’s 20kg Yellow Tail kingfish his first and caught on a searock jig.
Thanks to Paul Willis for Donating the Simrad hats the guys appreciated them cheers.
Thanks for Whitey and crew for a great day on the water.
We can’t wait for the next one!
Cheers

Need plumber for HWS install
Submitted by till on Wed, 2012-02-22 10:20Hiyas,
need a plumber to install a Bosch 10H or similar at a ground floor unit in central Perth. The existing unit has failed.
You can quote on the basis of supplying either the labour or the unit and the labour.
You may need to upgrade about 2m of gas pipe from the meterbox to the HWS.

Snook - Fines- Eating
Submitted by Sisterfish on Mon, 2012-02-20 12:32I was talking to a guy at Dawesville the other night and he had been done by fisheries for 7 undersize Snook, he was very embarrassed as he didnt realise they had size limit. He was told by fisheries that it would be a $100.00 - $120.00 but they didnt specify if this was in total or per fish. Does any one know how the fine system works?.
He said that he eats the Snook he catches which surprised me as I was under the impression they werent very good to eat so I guess my second question is has anyone else tried eating them and are they Ok?.

Two Rescued from sea off Turtle Bay
Submitted by carnarvonite on Mon, 2012-02-20 11:08Just heard that two people were rescued from the sea off Turtle Bay on Saturday after their boat capsized. They were in company of another boat but became separated due to the heavy conditions and capsized while turning around to look for the other boat.
The boys at Shark bay sea rescue located them via their epirb and a flare being set off when they weren't spotted when not far from the over turned vessel.
They were lucky that they hadn't discarded their out of date flares when they purchased a new set , keeping them on board because they had used them trying to signal their mates before setting the eprib off leaving the new ones for later.

Undersize fish
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Mon, 2012-02-20 08:50down at woodies last night with not much on the go, however a kid of about 14 landed a tailor that was clearly undersize. i informed him thatr tailor had to be 300mm. his responce was yeah just going to measure it. i turned my back and he promptly broke its neck and put it in a bag. along with numerous undersize crabs i saw in buckets and other undersize fish the fisheries would have a field day. anyone ever seen them down at woodies.

Sunday night at woodies
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2012-02-19 22:05Went down to woodies for a fish tonight
To get a few fish i thought i might
Tried for a while with no avail
The baits all come back without a tail
Theres lots of them blue swimmers about
They were hungry without a doubt
Shoulder to shoulder all along the jetty
Things werent looking all that pretty
People were leaving one by one
Chances of a fish were next to none
I kept on casting through the night
In the end i left without even a bite.
The pesky little snook were out in droves
I went home without a fishy smell on my clothes

Cordless Drills - Not fishing Related
Submitted by Buz on Sun, 2012-02-19 13:24Cordless Drills - Not fishing Related
Gday all, this question goes out to all the tradies or the master DIY'ers out there. I recently got myself a Bunnings voucher and thought it is time for me to joint the cordless age of power tools, having only ever had a 240V drill. I found a few brands that fit my budget but just wanted to see if anyone has been running these models, have used these models before or can offer THEIR opinion on which one they would go and why. Just for a bit of background knowledge, i am not a tradie so i am not going to be using the drill very day, in fact probably only crack it out a few times a month when i feel like being useful and handy around the house (when the weather is to bad to go fishing!)
The main ones that seem to fit my criteria were
Makita 18V with 2 x 1.1AH batteries
Bosch 18V with 2 x 1.2AH batteries
Ryobi ONE 18V with 2 x 1.4AH batteries
All of them were actually around the same price of $200.00.
I have seen alot of tradies using Makita when i worked for a while as a Carpenters Labourer so does that mean that this is the better/more reliable brand to go with? In the end i am going to buy one of them as a few of the other brands (Dewalt, AEG) seemed way out of my price range and i think more designed for heavy trade use anyway and brands loike Ozito looked more like plastic toys.
Any information, opinions and advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks, Buz.
