So true!!!
Submitted by pale ale on Thu, 2011-08-11 07:56John: Morning! Looking for a new car?
Bryan: Nope. Prime Minister, actually.
John: You’re the third one this morning. Anything in mind?
Bryan: You know....... nothing fancy, reliable, economical family model. Something to get the country from A to B.
John: You mean like a Howard?
Bryan: Yeah....a little Johnny. Nothing flash, does the job. Low maintenance, economical, sensible. Runs for years, no troubles.
John: So..... you used to have one?
Bryan: Yeah. About 10 years. Great little model – don’t know why I got rid of him --biggest mistake I’ve ever made…
John: What happened?
Bryan: Traded him in for a Kevin 07.
John: Big mistake…
Bryan: Lot of people bought it. Good political mileage.
John: How was the Kevin 07?
Bryan: Came with a $900 factory rebate – that was good.
John: Anything else?
Bryan: Not much. Sounded nice but nothing under the bonnet. It was a lemon.
John: Didn’t stick around for long did it?
Bryan: Nah – had a factory recall. Shipped overseas and was never seen again.
John: What was the problem?
Bryan: Lots. But the final straw was the navigation system. Plug it in and it automatically loses its own way.
John: Whatcha got now?
Bryan: It’s a Gillard-Brown.
John: The hybrid?
Bryan: Yeah. The Eco-drive system – not a good idea. An engine that can’t deliver hooked up to a transmission stuck in permanent reverse…
John: Green paintwork with a red interior. And steering that always lurches to the left for no apparent reason – that’s the one?
Bryan: The Fustercluck model.
John: The only one they made, Bryan. Not the vehicle of choice for the road to recovery – but did they finish up fixing the navigation system?
Bryan: Made it worse. Turn it on and it does a press release, heads off in all directions and goes nowhere.
John: So that’s why you’re here?
Bryan: That’s right. I’m stuck with a model that's wasteful, expensive, ineffective and past its use by date.. I don’t suppose you’ve heard of the “Cash for Clunkers” scheme?
John: Join the queue brother.

Ouch!!!
Submitted by carnarvonite on Wed, 2011-08-10 18:04Spotted a 5 metre fibreglass RIB in a carpark in town yesterday.
It was split all the way along the port side. from the bow to stern just below where the rubber tyre attaches to the sides. The self draining eck was visible through the gap.
It was fitted with racks up top with surf boards tied on and a jet ski inside so would expect they've been up Gnaraloo way surfing when something has gone bust.
Sorry no pics

Kalbarri Fishing (One Perfect Weekend)
Submitted by hit n run on Tue, 2011-08-09 15:43Gday everyone,
Here are a couple of fishing in Kalbarri vids. Scotty Coghlan and myself were invited up to Kalbarri and were lucky enough to get invited out fishing with Laurie and Sue Moulton from Murchison Boat Hire (thanks Guys). We had some great weather as well as plenty of yak fishing for tuna and spanish mackeral we had fish busting up everywhere with sharks, striped tuna and mackeral all swimming together. There were cobia caught off whale sharks and tailor on stickbaits.
The first day was a little rough but our luck changed and it glassed off on the second day allowing us to paddle straight out in the yaks and get onto some great fish.
Was a great weekend and I would highly recommend for anyone to go up and wet a line.
Enjoy Cheers
Steve

Bloody dogs!
Submitted by smash on Mon, 2011-08-08 23:33I imagine many of us here have mangy mutts, along with the ups and downs that go with them.
A few weeks back, this regal old girl who had been a part of the family for 15 years, reached the end of her journey.
Happy to the end, she had a large tumour in her right ear and another behind her left eye which brought partial blindness and we got the vet out to our house.
As with my other old fella, she deserved nothing less than to have me there holding her to the end.

Shed been a marvelous kids dog, endless patience and her weapon against over-exuberant kids was lavish use of her tongue and increasingly oderous breath. Hard to beat a staffy on any of these points! Im not really as upset as I expected, more pleased that she never lost her dignity (incontinence) and lived a contented and happy life us mere humans could only dream of.
Now this ratbag has appeared on the scene

We (having more than a couple of anklebiters) have always been a 2 dog family, and this guy who was the underdog now has to take on the role of keeping the pup in line-

He enjoys getting the swags out for a camp, but tends to like burying himself right down at your feet, great for keeping your feet warm but less than helpful if theres any grizzly bears or hyenas around.

a little history lesson
Submitted by grayzeee on Sun, 2011-08-07 19:12
There is an old Hotel/Pub in Marble Arch, London , which used to have a gallows adjacent to it. Prisoners were taken to the gallows (after a fair trial of course) to be hung.
The horse-drawn dray, carting the prisoner, was accompanied by an armed guard, who would stop the dray outside the pub and ask the prisoner if he would like ''ONE LAST DRINK''.
If he said YES, it was referred to as ONE FOR THE ROAD.
If he declined, that prisoner was ON THE WAGON.
So there you go. More bleeding history.
They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot and then once a day it was taken and sold to the tannery. If you had to do this to survive you were "piss poor", but worse than that were the really poor folk, who couldn't even afford to buy a pot, they "Didn't have a pot to piss in" and were the lowest of the low.
The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be.
Here are some facts about the 1500s:
Most people got married in June, because they took their yearly bath in May and they still smelled pretty good by June. However, since they were starting to smell, brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odour. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water!"
Houses had thatched roofs, thick straw piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof. Hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs."
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom, where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.
The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, "dirt poor." The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing.
As the winter wore on they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way. Hence: a thresh hold. (Getting quite an education, aren't you?)
In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight, then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme: ''Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot, nine days old''.
Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over they would hang up their bacon, to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, "Bring home the bacon." They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around talking and ''chew the fat''.
Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning and death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.
Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or ''The Upper Crust''.
Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of ''Holding a Wake''.
England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people, so they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realised they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, thread it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell.
Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift) to listen for the bell; thus someone could be, ''Saved by the Bell ''or was considered a ''Dead Ringer''
And that's the truth.

Chat about anything.
Submitted by iana on Sat, 2011-08-06 17:30Anyone remember those days “6 O’clock closing” you rush from work, buy a beer and head to your table, all the guys are there. The conversation “how we would run the company” “Personal beefs, how we would run the country, our sports, conquests, in fact anything. I really miss those days.
Isn’t this what this forum is about, beer in hand, we’re talking to our mates, some just listening, some bragging, some giving us the shits. But at the end of the day (6 o’clock) it’s just about chatting together.
So what if someone wants to join our table. Maybe they just want to make friends, why not let them in?
I have seen several persons put up posts and get crucified for doing so. So it interferes with your story “Boo Hoo”.
Maybe you need to learn tolerance.
Just a bit of co-operation could change that person’s life.
Then, SO WHAT IF ITS NOT FISHING RELATED.
If you read down the list, there are a lot of subjects that are definitely not fishing related, its not going to end the world.
And there is the section “Chat about anything”.

4x4 Car Detailers NOR
Submitted by Buz on Thu, 2011-08-04 23:34Gday all just wondering if anyone NOR has ever had their 4x4 detailed/profesionally cleaned. Have done a fair bit of looking around so i know of a few mobs out there that do it, just want to see if anyone on here can give me a heads up on their PERSONNAL experience with getting it done.
Particulary looking at companies that will do a 4x4, getting the outside, underbody and engine bay done. Also want the inside done, but its not in too bad condition, so if need be can tackle that myself. Just seems most online seem to specialize more in normal road cars rather than 4x4's.
Basically got a new 4x4 and want to spruce it up a little for myself.
Any personnal experiences or recommendations would be most appreciated.
Thanks, Buz.

your conscience
Submitted by JIM1 on Mon, 2011-08-01 21:01been meaning to post this up for a while but only just getting around to it!
I have done my fair share of hunting in my short life (im 21) and have always wondered how others deal with taking an animals life. Ive seen animals suffer before there put out of there misery and to be honest it has kept me awake a couple of nights.
Shooting is fine and i enjoy it as a vermin control method, quick and easy no real suffering. Pigging with dogs and "sticking" pigs would be my most cruel hobby and i still have the belife it is a quick and humane way to go about it.
I will only kill something if im going to eat it or its a vermin that destroys native bushland/cull, what gets me is the noise some animals make when they are going threw there impending doom, weather its a not so flash shot or a dog hanging off pig. I am always in game mode when the hunts on but afterwards it can give me the blues if you think about it to much.
I find people connect with animals that can make noise/comunicate and thus stops them wanting to cull animals due to feeling bad about it, but everyones had a go at fishing, i would be quitley confident that people can kill fish easier because there isnt so much eye contact/comunication.
and all this brings me to the main question, if fish made a noise when you where killing them, how would it influence your fishing/taking fish for the table?
