Sharks
Submitted by Jody on Fri, 2008-03-14 13:13On a tour of Australia, the Pope took a few days off to visit the coast for some sightseeing.
He was cruising along the beach in the Pope-mobile when there was a frantic commotion just off shore. A helpless man, wearing an All Black rugby jersey, was struggling frantically to free himself from the jaws of a 25 foot shark. As the Pope watched in horror, a speedboat pulled up with three men wearing Wallabies rugby jerseys.
One quickly fired a harpoon into the shark's side while the other two reached out and pulled the blue semiconscious Kiwi fan from the water. Then, using long clubs, the three beat the shark to death and hauled it into the boat.
Immediately the Pope shouted and summoned them to him. "I give you my blessing for your brave actions. I heard that there were some bitter hatreds between Australian and NZ rugby fans, but now I have seen with my own eyes that this is not true."
As the Pope drove off, the harpooner asked his buddies, "Who was that?"
"It was the Pope", one replied. "He is in direct contact with God and has access to all of God's wisdom."
"Well", the harpooner said, "He may have access to God and his wisdom, but he doesn't know s**t about shark fishing. Is the bait holding up OK or do we need to get another one?"

Saltist 30
Submitted by alfred on Tue, 2008-03-11 17:22I am looking for a low speed Saltist 30.
I believe that the ratio was 4.9:1 and it took in about 36" of line with each crank. I think the model was STT30T.
Is this reel still in production? Or has it been replaced by the STT30H which has a 6.1:1 ratio but also takes in about the same amount of line per crank? (I know that there is a STT3Th which is high speed at 6.9:1 and takes in about 47" per crank).

Builders - advice please
Submitted by JamManJr on Mon, 2008-03-10 20:24Hi Guys,
Need some advice on builders - pros and cons of your own experiences.
Who you think I should go with and not to go with? With the large
selection of builders in the market, how does one know if they are
getting a decent builder and value for money?
Some of the builders I have seen (mainly the mainstream "project"
type builders) are Ross North, Webb Brown Neaves, Domination Homes,
Metro/In-Vogue, APG, Summit, Don Russell Homes, Residential Designs and
Dale Alcock to name a few.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Suggestions???
Submitted by alfred on Fri, 2008-03-07 13:01I have one , but it is an antique and moves like one! It takes 8 sec from switcing on till it is ready to take a shot and the shutter activates only 2 sec after you press the shutter release! Cycle time before the next shot is 6 sec!!! Needless to say, this makes it a pain in the behind when taking fishing photos.
So........ I am in the market for a new digital camera. Any suggestions? I am after one that is small enough to put in my pocket, not one of the big fancy ones.

Where Would You Go?
Submitted by Craggles on Fri, 2008-02-29 09:09Hey all
Im looking at moving out of perth for a year or so come half way through this year and am trying to decide where to go so that I can start making arrangments. These are the options I have.
- Canarvon
- Albany
- Derby
- Geralton
- Port Headland
- Bunbury
- Northam
- Narrogin
I'm thinking to get the most of a new experience I should look to go far enough away from Perth that driving back isn't going to be something that I can do every weekend. I was wondering if people could please give me their thoughts on these places and even give me suggestions on where they would go. None of them are really small towns im assuming but I would also like to know how it is socially because I'll be moving on my own and am going to have to slip into the community some how without knowing anyone is any of the towns.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks :)

New Camcorder
Submitted by bouttime on Thu, 2008-02-28 19:06Getting a new camcorder for Exmouth and have narrowed it down to a JVC GZ-MG345
40gb hard drive, good lense quality, compact design.
Have had a look around and this 1 seems to be good value for money at $799.
Any thoughts on other camcorders that are in that price range.
I have never owned a camcorder so dont want to spend to much money.
Thanks

What can we do?
Submitted by max199 on Mon, 2008-02-25 16:45I went fishing last Saturday(23rd) at the North Mole for a feed of Tailor. There were an abundance of em around although a few were under size. I got there a good hour before sundown and already the tip was full with cars!
I found a nice flat rock close to the water on the inside wall. There were alot of ethnic fisher peoples already loaded and waiting, so as the sun went down I started to check if there was anything yet. To my surprise I caught a small chopper and then another and another. They were ALL returned to the water ASAP.
The rig I was using were a set of two ganged hooks with NO treble setup. I noticed a few of the other fishos close by had a small treble on theirs which I thought, WHY?. I was cutting the mullies into two and throughout the night until 11pm, worked a treat for me.
Also I saw numerous under sized fish taken and NOT returned and alot of fish kept instead of being returned to the water! I probably landed about 30 tailor and kept 8 only. I'm not too sure what the limits are but I think it is 8 fish at 30cm and only 2 over 60cm?
I was really pissed off but what can we do as Rec. fishers and why are there NO VFO's around at such a specific time when tailor are about in numbers?
It was one of the best little sessions I have had catching Tailor and I hope this can be replicated in the future!

Fiji fish
Submitted by BenY on Mon, 2008-02-25 10:22Hey guys, going to book my honeymoon spot in Fiji, and already got the ok to bring a rod and reel from the missus:) Just want to know if there is much fish activity off the over water bures or off the beach. Don't really wanna spend another USD250 for a game charter when its costing a bucket load for the stay. I'm just not totally the type to sit around an island resort for 7 days i'd get bored with the stuff to do and i know my significant other would rather just sit in the spa and read a book.. So questions are:
1. Which resort do you recommend?(don't worry about price if its too expensive i'll throw it out the door)
2. Are there much fish off the beach or the overwater bures?
3. Lightest gear i should bring?
Cheers all,
Ben

How ever when i was snarring one of the rivers i cam across 3 blokes who all had enclosed nets i would say about 4 each and had a 20 litre white bucket full of undersized ones. I dont know what your stance is here with rules and regulation but it really does destroy marron populations and spoils it for every one who does the right thing n stuff ? i was just wondering if any one can help me on what i should do if a nother situation like this occurs and who can i call? to report this cheers ;)

Saturday Evening Fish
Submitted by Rodrat on Sat, 2008-02-23 20:15HI All
Headed down to a beach in port kennedy this arvo for a fish.
Went wif my dad, son and a mate. started of slow wif a few sml tailor and then my reel
started screaming. Started to get a little worried when i saw my line pouring of my reel and the spool quickly being exposed.
Was hoping that i had hooked a shark or big tailor but was bitterly dissapointed when a lrg ray surfaced 50 m of the beach.Took my mulie on the move!!!!
Managed to drag it up the beach for my 4 year old son to look at before returning it back to the water.
Conditions were great, no wind and the water was glassy.
Had a great session even if i didnt go home with any biggies!

Retirement.... WHERE
Submitted by Maverick on Fri, 2008-02-22 19:09G'day guys , just going on from the homeless thread , when the time comes where do you see yourselves retiring to , I would love to go NORTH , I want to go to Darwin or somewhere near there but the wife doesn't want to go that far but everything in the Norwest is so expensive .
With all my broken bones I can't stand the cold so it has to be somewhere warm to H O T (and near the water).
So what about YOU!!!
