Boating etiquette or is it just me
Submitted by todd davies on Tue, 2016-03-15 15:02Is it just me or over the last few years there seems to be more boats coming closer to you when you are fishing or diving.Im not sure what drives individuals to b line to a boat if they see them fishing or diving but certainly over the years its getting unbelievably frustrating. Two weeks ago Saturday the 27th of feb I was diving of myalup with a mate and my step son watching the boat (dive flag up) and a muppet drove past my boat and stopped on the bubbles above where we were diving to what I can only assume to mark the spot. Not only is this practice extremely dangerous its illegal to do so. Unfortunately my step son didn't get the boat number but described it as around 6m marone bar crusher with a radar and two large white antennas. He had a radar for god sake and still had to park on top of us which gives you a good indication of his intelligence .unfortunatelly without a number we couldn't complete a full report with dept of transport. Is it just me?

LCD Polarizer Film
Submitted by sandbar on Mon, 2016-03-14 22:18I need to fix the LCD display on my jetski and after research i come to the conclusion I can repair it by replacing the LCD polarizer Film? Hardest part is finding the film of reasonable size in Australia. I can get it for IPhones and the like but it is too small. I can also recycle the product but then I need the adhesive. Is anyone able to point me in th eright direction?
TIA

Daiwa and Gamakatsu Car/ Boat Decals- where to get them?
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Sat, 2016-03-12 14:26Hey all
Not sure if this belongs in a WTB in buy/sell or not, but anyway....
Just bought a new set of wheels and looking for some specific stickers/ decals for it
Not into over the top bling but am looking for both a decent quality Gamakatsu and Daiwa decal. I've done the usual googling and eBay browse, but I'm a bit particular on what I'm after, being:
- a Daiwa (name only in the straight font block writing- not Team Daiwa or an emblem) sticker- preferably vinyl but not essential, a about 300x100 to 400x200mm size.
- Gamakastu in about 150x50 to 200x75mm size
That in itself isn't too hard to find, but I'm a bit picky and only want them in reflective silver or gold colour. Also no background- the type that's just the letters only and has the double sticky sides so you can put them straight onto the surface, if that makes sense...
I know the search is a bit vain, but if anyone could point me in the right direction, would be much lay appreciated! Many even a decal maker who be prepared to knock a couple up?
Cheers

Setting up an Aquarium
Submitted by Ashen on Sat, 2016-03-12 09:41Hi guys. Setting up an aquarium for fancy goldfish and looking for abit of advice.
The tank size is 120cm long, 50cm wide and 60cm deep. I will have 3 canister filters running, all filled with bio balls and ceramic ring noodles. One of the return hoses will go to the inbuilt filter compartment in the Aquarium hood. It will be filled with chemical filtration such as activated carbon etc. I set it this way so that the chemical media can be added/removed without disturbing the biological filter media in the canisters.
Is there such a thing as too much filtration? Haha
Now, i am not sure whether to use sand or it leave the bottom bare. The tank sits on greenish blue foam so if I dont use substrate, the foam can be seen through the bottom of the tank, eliminating glare. Have read mixed opinions online regarding sand vs gravel vs bare bottom..
Thoughts?

Meth charges thrown out of court
Submitted by Cruise Control on Sat, 2016-03-12 09:13Is it me ? Am I reading this wrong ?
Following on from the large number of posts regarding the attack on a fisherman by 3 offenders armed with a baseball bat, I was amazed to read this mornings West where on Page 5, a judge has dismissed charges against two men charged over a $320m meth haul.
The charges were apparently thrown out by the judge because the police didn't provide a hard copy of their evidence to prosecutors, they provided the evidence in soft copy ie on 26 disks. The Judge apparently "was astounded" at the police attitude and that he was of a mind to drop the charges. He went on to dismiss the charges and said the men should be released from custody.
My "law 101" experience fails to understand how this situation could arise. Are we not striving to be a paperless society, can the prosecutor not print out her own documents ? Are we really going to let these guys go over something so trivial ?
Unless there is more to this or I am missing something this is an absolute joke. How the fark are we supposed to stop meth in society when this bullshit occurs ?

Was out at the islands last weekend for a few days with the kids when we saw this plane go over about 15000 times at 50 feet, and wondered what they were up to.
Then came across this article
which I cannot paste here
Bottom line a search for the Aagtekerk, thought to have been wrecked very close to the Zeewijk

Marine sparky
Submitted by dant on Fri, 2016-03-11 17:51Hi all,
Wondering if someone could help with a good marine sparky NOR, my batteries (I think) have been playing up over the last few months, engines seem to dim everything when I try and start it - thinking there might be more to it seeing the battery is only a year old. Example - starts perfect one day runs all day and dead the next. Might need a good check over of everything.
Thanks all Dan

Dhufish growth on a tagged speciman
Submitted by Just1morecast on Fri, 2016-03-11 07:10Hi all,
Last week i jigged up a tagged dhufish which had a tag put in on 1/1/05 at a size of 550mm i then got her on a placy on 6/3/16 measuring at 760mm. Just goes to show how slow they actually grow and definitely gives me a better understanding with whether i want to keep them big girls or not. We also found that both dhuies we got 7/13kg had heaps of roe, breeding time now?? Just a heads up i thought some would be interested in. Lets all do our bit for dhuies for the future.

Ocean Reefers (not smoking pot at sea)
Submitted by randall df223 on Wed, 2016-03-09 18:26I got a letter in the mail today from City of Joondalup about a proposed fish cleaning station at Ocean Reef Marina. Two locations are proposed. One in the south west corner of the top car park, the other down near the toilets (which means losing existing parking bays there as well).
To me its no-brainer that it sould be in the top car park, purely for access. Retrieve your boat. Wash-down and drive up into the carpark to clean the fish. Parking much more available at busy times.

Home Security
Submitted by Cruise Control on Tue, 2016-03-08 15:52Well its time to get cameras out the front of the house. We had 3 of the kids cars done over on Sunday night, broken windows or locks levered out of the doors. I had noticed a group of young "kids" scoping houses in our street over the past couple of weeks and looks like Sunday was the night that they finally got to it.
Even though it sh*ts me to tears to have to put cameras up as we live in a nice street with plenty of trees, grass reserves etc. the fact that we have a creek next to us is our downfall as the little bast*rds use the creek as a thoroughfare to move through the suburb.
Therefore I am looking to put a couple of cameras out the front in vandal proof cases that record onto a hard drive. These kids are quite capable of knocking out the street lights so need cameras that will record in low light and still record at a high enough resolution so that we get a clear image in the low light for up to 15m to help police nab the little sods if they come back and try it again.
Any members on the forum that do security camera work who could advise me ? I have heard of lightfinder cameras that will take clear colour images in .05 lux but don't know much more. Any and all help or advice will be appreciated.
Oh, and by the way, confrontation is not the answer. The last time I did that I was surrounded by 15 of them and threatened with a machete. The police removed that particular threat but now we have a different mob living in the same houses.
cheers

Towing a tube 7.9 Knots or less
Submitted by SpotHound on Sun, 2016-03-06 07:50According to the DPI website, skiing, tube towing etc is legally defined as being 8 knots and over.
Does that mean I can tow the kids on a tube anywhere less than 7.9 Knots?
Except the Belmont ski area where it is banned alltogether?

Best airbags for ranger
Submitted by crano on Fri, 2016-03-04 17:02In what now appears to be not one of my better decisions i bought a new ranger single cab chassis. It has got an aluminium tray and an aluminium Bull motor bodies
tradie canopy on it and about 230 kg of ladders and tools etc which is enough to make it drag its arse.
The springs are actually bent backwards. It has been on a weighbridge and it all weighs a bit over 600 kg more than a bare cab chassis without even a tray on it.
It is supposed to to have a payload of 1300 kg and with less than half of that people are flashing me at night because the headlights are pointing too high.
I had all this on a hilux for nearly 10 years with no problems. I will be going to coral bay in about 6 weeks and will be actually carrying a decent load so I will need to do something to keep its arse from dragging on the ground so would like to hear from others as to what are good and bad airbags and if they can be installed yourself.
Also I think it is posessed.

AFL Top 8 Fun Comp
Submitted by crasny1 on Tue, 2016-03-01 13:59Mates did this and it was a little fun. As we have a tipping comp already from Gilly just do this as fun, or we can get some money together for a end of season prize.
Pick your top 8 teams. Place them in order.
Place getters score points like this, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4,3,2,1.
If you predict a team to come 2nd, and they come 1st you still get the ten point. So realy a top 8 predictor. But if you get a team in the correct spot the points double.
Whoever ends up with the most points win.
Fun even if just bragging rights
Edit: After Home and Away
I go:
1st WCE
2nd Hawks
3rd Freo
4th Cats
5th Richmond
6th Port
7th Sydney
8th North Melbourne
Here's hoping!!
Winner updated below.

My new boat
Submitted by dakka on Mon, 2016-02-29 18:04I have finally upgraded from my 4m tinnie with a 30 hP to a Fraser Western Craft 525 with a 90 hp v4 Evinrude on it. Will be able to go a bit further out now than I did in my tinnie. I'm probably going to ask a few questions so please bear with us. I have just puchased a Furuno 582l colour sounder so I have to fit that and new p66 tranny on hull. It didn't come with a mounting bracket so I am trying to source one.
1st question the gun wall is white but pretty much most of it is blackish now probs from years of berthing what do people use to clean the rubber up and hopefully get it clean again.
Cheers Darryl

Transducer placement
Submitted by dakka on Mon, 2016-02-29 10:38Howdy all
l have just purchased a furuno 582l colour sounder with p66 Airmar Transducer. I want to get the transducer put on right the first time. I'm not too sure on where to place it on my western craft hull. So would someone be able to come out and help a brother put it on correctly as I have never done this before. I would rather get it done right the first time as I have read that this is most important to place it correctly. I live in Warnro and would be most appreciative if some one could help me out in doing this cheers.
