GoPro on the boat
Submitted by burnz on Thu, 2015-11-12 18:50I just got a GoPro hero 4 to start takimg some footage on the boat when were out fishing. Wondering what would be the best way to mount it out there and any accessories I need or should get?
And also the best / easiest video editing software for someone completely new to it?
We will be running drop lines off Gero so hopefully I get some good footage... So far playing around with the camera im not very impressed with the quality, but maybe that all changes with editing.

Cheapo Generators
Submitted by Swompa on Wed, 2015-11-04 07:48Howdy.
First of all, I have looked through the search results and have found some answers though most are old.
I am looking to part cash and pick up a generator. My brothers both have Honda generators and have never had a problem with them (only used once or twice a year so I should expect not).
I am looking for something between 1000kva and 2500kva, as a backup to my solar panels when I go camping. Running at most, two 50l fridges.
I am very much a bang for buck kinda guy and keep getting drawn to the $600 no name ones at Bunnings and similar and are more inclined to buy two of them as opposed to one Honda/Yammy though would like some feedback on no name generators.
Who has one (other than Honda or Yammy) and what is it like?
I have a Hyundai 1200kva which has never been used in anger though it is an industrial one and I need something more compact to fit in my camper.

Nothin lasts forever, even cold MOvember Crays
Submitted by dumper on Mon, 2015-11-02 23:02G'day guys.
Last year a couple of mates and I ran from Scarborough to South freo to raise funds and awareness for the movember foundation. The Tashed up bogans managed to raise over 17 grand and this year we're aiming to better that effort. I know times are tough at the moment but if you've got a few bucks to donate to a cause that supports men's health, you can donate to my page by clicking http://mobro.co/DumperD

CPAP advice (not fishing related)
Submitted by scano on Mon, 2015-11-02 19:19Hi all,
although not not fishing related I thought I would ask the advice of the fellow fishwrecked community about CPAP machines. Just recently finished a trial of a cpap device and I was amazed at the difference in how you feel after sleeping with one for a few months and then going without (like a good woman I suppose. Hahah)
has as anyone else trialled, bought a machine recently? If so any feedback on brands or even how they go with it in general. Lastly do Medicare or your private health insurer offer any form of rebate?
Any other fishwrecked members feedback or advice would be welcomed

27 meg radios
Submitted by carnarvonite on Sun, 2015-11-01 16:35There has been an email sent out to all the Volunteer Sea Rescue groups informing us of the intention of not advertising the coverage coverage of 27meg radios in their information for listeners. This is the start of getting all boaters to gradually turn to VHS radios. This at the moment is mainly in the metro area as most far northern and southern groups have only a few visiting vessels logging on with 27 meg
Here in Carnarvon we would be lucky to get 4-5 a year with the exception of Carnarfin fishing competition where there is a coupe of regulars from down south who refuse to take the hint that it is for their safety not to spend a few dollars, after all when they spend thousands on travel up here, accommodation , entry fees , bait and fuel and piss.
So when buying a new radio as a replacement or fitting out a boat for the first time please consider going the extra bit and putting a VHF in
Thank You

Very Lucky People
Submitted by carnarvonite on Wed, 2015-10-28 08:42Got a phone call at 1930 from Gnaraloo station reporting 2 sixty year old windsurfers had failed to come in as planned at 1600. Rang Water Police for instructions and put our crews on standby, organised extra fuel and food plus relief crew to be taken up to the bay while waiting for the search plane to reach the area. Plan was to head off at 0300 and arrive off the bay at around first light
Got a call confirming our plans and the go ahead about 2100, informed all involved, notified work and went to bed. Woke up to a conversation on the VHF between water police and the dornier search plane that they had located the second bloke on a beach and were directing the shore party to him, the first bloke had got to shore around 2230. So it was back on the phone to confirm with water police, stand down crews, cancel fuel and food and try to get back to sleep.
Two bloody lucky people, there is no way I would like to be in the water at night up there and have to come over the reef anytime is scary.

sorry but its anouther bent st boat ramp
Submitted by petermac on Tue, 2015-10-27 21:05wifey and me were at the bent st boat ramp today to walk our aussie bulldog. trying to pull in to the carpark an officious bloke in a straw hat is trying to wave us away with his fist clenched. backed out ended parking up on the grassy area . Straw hat had both ramps blocked off with a twin trailer semi heaps of vehicles were trying to pull in with there with boats behind them causing a log jam. I walked past him and said " how much longer is this pandemonium going to go on his response " whats your problem you old c*** " I hit the roof and gave him a spray explaining how the 6 week project was now into its 4th week and they hadn't finished the right hand side yet. response " doing our f***g best" me "well your best isn't very good and if you swear at me again I might be pushing 60 but will put you on your arse" about then the bent street brains trust all stood up clapping shouting its about time they were told . I got home rang the bloke at council that is in charge of the job and he was beside himself , seems he is going to give him a have a word with him about dealing with the public , and make sure they double the amount of blokes working on the job

DIY pond!
Submitted by Ashen on Mon, 2015-10-26 16:45Just thought I'd post up some pics of the pond I made. It took me a month from the first shovel of soil to how it is today! First time I've ever done an inground pond! Sorry if it looks dodgy!! Haha
Digging the pond. Took me f#%king 2 full days to dig it!! Measurements are: 2.4m long x 1.2m wide x 60cm deep (deepest section). Theres also a stepped section which is only 20cm deep.
Liner laid. Filled and testing for leaks:

Nearly finished. The "decking" is made from raw pine pallets which I got from work. Will be painting them a grey slate colour to match the Patio.

Waterfall & filter. The filter is a large black tub which sits behind the waterfall. Water is pumped from the pond using 2 pumps. Will be buying a larger pump to increase waterfall flow.

The shallow end. I'll be adding river pebbles to this section to add abit of contrast to the main pond area.

Inhabitants: 4 baby koi and 4 large goldfish.
Plants: Some duckweed and elephant ear plant in the filter box and a Blue money wort in the shallow area. Will be adding water lillies in the main section.
Well, thats it for now! I'll say it again, its my first attempt so please disregard the dodgy look of the pond!! Haha!
