What happened to Joondalup Fishing & Camping Store?
Submitted by Andy Mac on Wed, 2009-10-14 09:04I just drove past on my way to the post office and all the signs have been taken down, the doors were all closed and blinds drawn.
Last week when I went in the tills werent working but they were still trading, and Tony was busy loading a truck with camping gear from the mezanine level which seemed a little strange at the time but nothing was said. They didnt mention they were closing or moving locations, so if they have moved, there is no forwarding address on the door and if they have closed it looks like it was pretty sudden.
Hopefully not another victim of the large chain stores.
Anyone know if they have opened up elsewhere?
That was my local I've been visiting for near on 15 years, so now I feel a bit lost.

Dear Mr Rudd.... (classic email I received today)
Submitted by Andy Mac on Tue, 2009-10-13 12:45I'm not sure who wrote this but I thought it was pretty good. Shows a few Aussies can think quite laterally. Shame I don't hit 50 for another 15 months or so.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Rudd,
Please find below my suggestion for fixing Australia 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it The Patriotic Retirement Plan:
There are about 3 million people over 50 in the work force. - Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:
1) They MUST retire. Three million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2) They MUST buy a new Australian made car. Three million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.
4) They must send their kids to school / college /university - Crime Rate fixed
5) They must buy $50 of alcohol / tobacco a week there's your money back in duty / tax etc
It can't get any easier than that!
P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back
Their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances

Submitted by Faulkner Family on Mon, 2009-10-12 21:09Was just having a look at the numbers earlier and saw we had 106 members on at the same time, even some of the older members that have only posted a few times were on , looks like we are either all bored or just needing the fishing fix without getting wet or cold
. its great to see so many older members still around, and lots of new ones

Cleaning Sharks
Submitted by Paully on Sun, 2009-10-11 19:22Was talking to friend of mine not so long ago when the subject of him catching sharks (Gummy's & Whalers) came up. He told me briefly how he processes the sharks after catching them, i.e cuting of fins/tail etc. He did mention also that he uses his high pressure hose (on boat) to as he said, "blow the backbone out of them." I have never heard of this approach before and was wondering if any members have or done the same thing. Im interested in any feedback and opinions on this, I had a fish burger some time ago with a whaler fillet (That's whaler, not whale!!) in it and was surprised how nice it was. I am assuming it tasted good because of how it was processed.

Boat Maintenance
Submitted by iana on Sun, 2009-10-11 06:17With regards to the boat fire at Hillaries, I am amazed that there are not more misshaps like that.
I recently brought a boat, which had electric wires hanging down every where, the fuel tank sender unit had the hole in the tank cut out too large, would never sealed (factory fit).
Silicon holding the aluminium tank down direct on the floor, so it was corroded. The only thing that stopped the fuel cooming out from holes in the bottom of the tank was the corrosion.
There was no "Goose neck" on the fuel vent so water in the fuel.
I know from experience that when things go wrong, it all happens very quickly.
I have now rewired, and installed a new fuel system. Also serviced my inflateable life jackets. Found one where the cylinder was mounted up-side down.

Cockburn Sound spawning season and Fishing Jetty laws
Submitted by Baron Custom on Sat, 2009-10-10 14:41
Hi everyone, Can someone tell me if we are still allowed to fish from the jettys in Cockburn Sound, can't remember when the spawning season started and if there are restrictions or bans for the Cockburn area. Want to go fishing tonight and don't want to get into any trouble.
Man I just want to go fishing and catch something, any ideas?

Boat on back of ute
Submitted by Iceman on Thu, 2009-10-08 10:17Driving along Wanneroo Rd Wanneroo this morning notice accident where a tray top ute towing a 25ft bertram had run into the back of a truck. Not serious but the boat had slid forward and was now resting half on trailer and half on back of ute. The Tray back did not look big enough to tow a vessel of that size. Could not stop but boat looked fairly new. Sorry no photo but may be seen in local paper

PERTH- Land/Jetty Based Fishing
Submitted by Baron Custom on Sun, 2009-10-04 10:54
I'm so depresseed !!!
Our Baron Sportsman still has 4-6 maybe even 8 weeks until it hits the water again. Out of desperation to get anything wet, we had spent a couple of nights on the jetty at Woodmans point.
The first night I fished there had a couple of good runs, some boys caught a decent Gummy Shark, (1) big squid and we had a wrestle with a Ray, so this time (second time) we thought...preparation is the key... so we prepped the crap out of everything, even built a bloody trolley to take everything out to the jetty on, got a nice box of fresh squid, a big block of fresh Pilchards, some Blue Sardines and some White bait for good measure...... When we got there, we saw a lot of other people fishing from the jetty, crikey we thought we may have a problem getting a good spot. Funny enough, there was a spot right at the end of the jetty, so we trekked to the end and settled into our "Spot"
So we spent the next 6 hours feeding a Sea Lion, all with our lovely aforementioned bait. We kept hoping he would go away soon and he kept hoping we would be stupid enough to stick around and keep feeding him. He was a very healthy and cheeky Sea Lion whoobviously knew his way around the lines very well, at times it was hard to figure out whether there was only one, or a couple working in a bait snatching union.
It was a beautiful night, got a tad cold in the wind by midnight, but overall it would have been pretty good for fishing.
To anyone who is feeling even the slightest bit of sympathy for me, could they PM me with any place in the Metro area that I could catch a decent fish or at least have the chance to without the Sea Lion Training. As most of our fishing had been done from the boat, we are very unaware of spots and areas from shore for land based fishing. The reason for asking for PM is because if you have a secret spot, we WILL keep it a secret, so your spot will not get pilferred.
Cheers.... Darryl
