fisheries in kalbarri
Submitted by tangles on Mon, 2009-11-09 16:28was talking to a m8 2day about the upcoming season and fisheries have mentioned that an office could be coming to town finally after a longtime of wondering if they would ever come here. Last time I talked to fisheries about having a permanent office here was 6 years ago and the reply was that there would be too many arguments between them for who wanted to come here. Fingers crossed they will have 2 officers here soon as town needs it, will definately keep everyone in line!

Talking of HOT LAPS !!
Submitted by kaney68 on Sun, 2009-11-08 14:34Had a "tough" day at the office the other week !
Unfortunately..... had to attend a drive day at Barbagallo's with 3 new Lamborghini's..
Pictured below is the new Lambo Gallardo (based around the feature we were doing for Unique Cars)
Managed to get a couple of hot laps in as a passenger, than a drive of the beast !
We hit speeds of around the 240km/h mark down the straights (with aircon on full !)
It's amazing how quick FORD and CAT corners come up !!
The acceleration and breaking power is superb...
Had a feeling the contents of my stomach was on the up and out a couple of times especially thru the esses.
Maybe...just maybe..... when I have a spare $500k - $600k I might buy one !
cheers,
Paul

Fisheries and Abalone
Submitted by jersey on Sun, 2009-11-08 12:46I went down to the reef north of Ocean Reef marina, weighted for 0700 start time on the shore along with a few others, noticed 1 diver, starting at 0625 to the south a 100meters,the the newer arrivals to our shores probably 15 started at 0645 one fisheries officer walked out and did his best to tell them not to start until 0700 but up the reef to the north 20/30 were at it,these fisheries officers had no chance but I commend them for at least trying,And,what about a duty o care to these fisheries officers,if they have to go on the reefs to try and enforce the rules they could fall over or get a foot caught in a hole we go on the reefs for fun and a feed ,its our risk but this officer did it to do his job.His partner ,a female tried shouting at them,Yea that really worked,(not) last year 2 fisheries stood and watched people start at 0630 (on one of the very low tides )and did nothing.I suggested last year that a siren should be mounted at the popular spots and when you get a license it says clearly (in 5 Asian language) no start until it sounds and you must finish when it sounds again,I dont think its rocket science at least every one will know.I also suggested that Fisheries should allow only correct tools, Not screw drivers as a screw driver will damage the animal and they bleed out,Tills, Brother is making them and a lot of dive shops sell them.it would also be safer than getting a tumble over the reef and shoving a screw driver or carving knife in your leg The fisheries themselves could sell them and the money they collect could be put towards more officers or part time fisheries officers on the reefs.
One group of new Aussies? had 14 undersized abs,and the fisheries bloke got them but while he was explaining things to them a whole bunch of others started throwing back excess and small abs around his back, he could only do so much.
Maybe its ethnically too hard for the minister to grow balls and give some strength to protect the Abs.I got my 20,No escapes this time and only had a bit of claret leaking from my arm,a wave got me while I was trying to get one out of a hole,,Tide was up,swell was down, vis was good and there were a lot less abs than last week jersey

Photography Terminology
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2009-11-06 19:25Hi Crew,
Thought I would start a thread for maybe the more advanced camera users amongst us to enlighten us newbies (me) about camera terminology and the bits n pieces about getting good photo's.
Ie, terms like I.S and aperature etc - what basic settings you use for what type of photos - what lenses suit which scenario best etc. What situations you would go to manual focus and how you adjust your settings to get different effects.
For example - a beach setting with lots of light - best setting you've found? -
a beach setting with lots of cloud cover-
I've read my manual a fair few times and picked up bits and pieces, but maybe a few of you guys could break it down for the rest of us to pick up?
Cheers,
Adam

fads
Submitted by daniel_hughes on Fri, 2009-11-06 19:13Hey all. I have been helping the perth game fishing club with the fads to get them ready for the season approaching. I know alot of you use the fads and i'm pretty sure they would love some help with the preparation and deployment of the fads this year. All work is done via working bees. there is one coming up soon so it would be good to get some more help. You don't have to be a PGFC member to give a hand.
Will post working bee date when they organise it or contact PGFC via their website

Hypnotising crabs?
Submitted by PJAY on Thu, 2009-11-05 22:17Now here is a topic i was introduced to about 5 years ago. Now what would you say if a mate said to you....."do you know how to hypnotise a crab?" Probably exactly what i said to him something along the lines of "go away, i don't think you are telling the truth" (but i used a lot of expletives to get the same message across! LOL) I was wondering if this was something a lot of people were aware of? And yes...it can be done quite simply..

Broome Fishing Charter report October 2009
Submitted by PJAY on Thu, 2009-11-05 21:54Now bear with me guys as this is my first report on this site so here goes. Last Thursday week i was lucky enough along with two mates, Chief and Nifty (soon to be a fishwrecked member) to be in Broome on holidays. Oh and the wives were there too! Now after much planning and speaking to other fishwrecked members (wade tolley) we decided to give Absolute Ocean Charters a try whilst in Broome. Now we have been on many fishing charters but i was impressed that husband and wife team Mick and Kelly cater for small groups of 4 or more but no more than 10. This suited us, minimal tangles (in fact i don't think we had one all day?) and no bumping elbows with fellow fisher people. Kelly picked us up from the accomodation along with two other guys, Luke from Perth (ex victorian) and John from Tasmania. We were met at the beach by Mick and after a safety briefing on board the 42 foot ally boat UTOPIA, we were under way. It wasn't long before Kelly came out with the toasted sandwiches etc. As the 5 of us got to know each other we agreed to share the catch to ensure all had a good feed at the end of the day. Weather was getting better with about a 8-13kn wind blowing.
We headed for a few spots about 27km West of Broome and on the way out i was amazed at the marine life. We saw 4 sea snakes on the surface and several turtles. I wasn't quick enough to get a photo of a huge sperm whale completely out of the water...an amazing sight.
On the way out Mick set up three trolling rods with poppers and lures and within 3 minutes bang it was on, a 17kg mackie. Luke was onto the rod and within a short time the big boy was on board. Not to be greedy we all decided that that mackie was a keeper and there was plenty of fillets to go round. UTOPIA is a well fitted out and fast boat and we were out there in a short time. The first drop saw us in about 27metres of water and as soon as the lines hit bottom it was full on. We continuously caught and released numerous cod, spanish mackerel, saddletails, groper, small red emperor, small sharks, fingermarks, coral trout, mackeral tuna, spanglies and other fish i can't even remember the name of? As quick as we were pulling in fish, Mick and Kelly were pulling them off the hooks and rebaiting at the same time. All day we maintained a 100% success rate in releasing fish...we were pretty happy with that!
We headed out a little further to about 40metres and thats when the fun started.......yes we were in to some tackle testing GT action...and they came in hungry! I lost count of the number of fish caught and released and it was the best fun fishing i have had for a long time. The high quality Penn Rods, Okuma and Shimano reels were up to the task with the biggest GT coming in at about 17kg....there were some other REALLY big hookups and surprisingly very few sharks? Most times all 5 rods were being tested at the same time. Mick and Kelly promised us a good time and boy we were having it! In between all the fishing Kelly provided us with cold meat and salad lunch and fruit platter, biscuits, lamingtons etc......enough food to feed a small army?
At the end of the day we were tired, sore, well fed and invited up to the bridge to join Mick for a chat on the way home. At the time of writing this Mick and Kelly were travelling down the coast in UTOPIA heading for Mandurah and getting ready to run charters out of Mandurah. Now i have no affiliation with Absolute Ocean Charters but i will give credit where credit is due. Mick and Kelly i believe have found a niche in the charter market, small groups, well spoiled in fishing and food and drink and have some great ideas coming up involving dive charters and other things that i won't mention just in case others decide to get in first? This is the first charter i have been on where i haven't had tangles, haven't banged elbows with other fisher people and could comfortably walk around the deck without tripping over some extended legs. Mick and Kelly have a simple business philosophy, keep your customers happy and make sure they have a good time and that worked for us. The last photo is Mick in the chair on the fly bridge. To Kelly and Mick thanks for a great day of great company, great fishing, and looking after fishwrecked members. I will see you over summer in Mandurah!
I miss Broome already???

Blast from the past - FMT72L
Submitted by Paully on Thu, 2009-11-05 14:37Here's a question for you, some might think strange but never mind. When I was in high school many years ago now I built a series of fishing rods. The one that stood out the most was a FMT72L. Now whilst I remember the model of the blank like it was yesterday, I'm guessing now what that stood for - I think fast multi taper and might have been 72 inches long (Is this right?) I also remember that it was probably the best light spinning blank I built on, and now think id like to do another for light estuary species i.e. whiting, bream etc. Another question can someone advise what the best blank composition would be inthis day/age.. i.e. glass, graphite. Does it matter? , What are the pros and cons of each? Lastly does anyone know who builds one of these blanks? Id love to build one myself, however I do realise I'd probably spend just as much as buying one of the shelf, depending on what components I'd use, I know.

Hello and Sorry haven't been around much!
Submitted by Dreamweaver on Tue, 2009-11-03 15:35
Sorry guys and girls, have not been around much lately. You know sometimes things come togther at times and overwhelm you time wise. Still fighting fit (or should that be fat!) , works been crazy busy, the social calender (with the kids) looks like a dunny door peppered with a shotgun and, I've been working on a couple of private ventures (more details at the appropriate time
) as well as some major financial overhauls.
Anyway, just to let you know, I haven't forgotton about you guys, this great forum. Keep up the fishing and posting, jokes and debates and I hope to surface completely soon. In the meantime, I'll try and pop in more that I have lately
Fishing wise it's been (*insert lots of explitives here!*) down here (when we've had time and opportunity to consider it!). Hopefully, we'll get out soon!

using burley in the city of cambridge
Submitted by mako magic on Mon, 2009-11-02 20:00Had a discussion with a regular customer who reckons its against council law to use burley on the beaches in the city of cambridge which apparently includes beaches like city beach and floreat.
Can anyone confirm or dismiss this at all?
