Submitted by till on Sat, 2009-12-05 20:07Well, if you were looking for a reason to crack a coldy, here it is!
Today is the anniversary of Repeal Day in the USA. Yes, it was on this day in 1933 that they just got over it.
Mine is a Turf, no relation to the Surf & Turf;
2oz Gin
3/4oz dry vermouth
1/4oz maraschine liqueur
1 dash of absinthe
1 dash of orange bitters
Shaken over ice, served in a cocktail glass with a lemon twist.

ouch.................don't upset the missus LOL
Submitted by mako magic on Fri, 2009-12-04 20:16A jealous wife who allegedly set her husband's penis on fire will answer a murder charge in January.
Rajini Narayan, 44, appeared briefly in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday charged with murder, arson and endangering life.
The mother of three allegedly set fire to the genitals of her husband, Satish Narayan, in December last year.
Mr Narayan suffered major burns and died several weeks later.
The fire also gutted the family's suburban Unley home leaving a damage bill of about $1 million.
A previous court hearing heard Narayan had told neighbours: "I'm a jealous wife, his penis should belong to me. I just wanted to burn his penis so it belongs to me and no one else ... I didn't mean this to happen."
In court on Friday, defence counsel Lindy Powell, QC, asked for a delay in the date for her client to answer the charge as discussions were still under way with the prosecution.
Magistrate Alf Grasso set down January 22 for Narayan's next appearance.
Bail was continued.

thyme out cafe
Submitted by gav077 on Thu, 2009-12-03 21:12Hey guys, just letting you know that if your in the area you really have to go to thyme out cafe for some fish and chips. We had some last night and i swear to god that it was the best fish and chips that we had for years. Thanks Russ and Sandy, the squid melted in our mouths and the prawns were moist and delicate. The only gripe I've got is that there wasn't enough chilli mussels, they were sooooooo good and they got stolen by the ruggies (ha,ha). Thanks again for the delicious grub.

Toyota bj74 13bt rebuild vs buy new 4wd
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Thu, 2009-12-03 19:32I have a Toyota Landcruiser BJ74 Import with a 13BT turbo Diesel which is making me make some tough choices. On the way back from a trip to Tasmania in July, She started overheating around Southern Cross after a tiny leak opened up in a turbo water hose. We attempted to keep refilling it with water and tryed to limp home. The temperature seemed to stabilise and I thought we might just be able to get into Perth, but it was not to be. In Bodallin 8640kms through a 9000km return trip just as the speed dropped to 90 kmh the engine stalled and I had to Roll it into a park bay that was fortunately where we ended up. I got out and popped the hood to discover that a gasket has let go and shot hot oil all over the exhaust manifold, leading to a small fire which I put out post haste.
We ended out getting towed to the Merredin Caravan park and my Dad and Brother came out with a car trailer the next day to come get us. Since then my poor little car has been parked in the driveway.
Since then, we have been able to get her to start but it was loud and rattleing so we shut it off. Basically I think I am up for an engine rebuild at the very least. I have been quoted about $4700 for a rebuild, *if* there are no problems with: the block, the head or the turbo. The landcruiser also needs to have some rust sorted out and a full respray as when I was overseas for a few months a couple of years ago some native trees dripped sap all over it and when we cleaned it off, it took the paint off:/ I estimate maybe $5000 required. I would also have the back doors modified more like a forerunner or surf setup so I could actually take the fibreglass top off without the rear doors sticking out like dogs balls.
About the only other thing that _needs_ to be done would be suspension for about $1000-2000 tops. We can do our own labour on this one.
Wishlist after that would be (in no particular order): Bullbar, Spotties, UHF Radio, Snorkel, Roof Racks, Engel fridge, Inverter and possibly an aluminium checker plate interior.
So for $12000 I can get the beast back on the road, and then work on the rest over time..
Or do I sell up and buy something hopefully better. The downside to this is that:
1. I love this car
2. Its a beast offroad/towing. Light weight, mid wheel base, 3.4 lt turbo diesel means plenty of power and low approach/departure angles.
3. When I bought it in 2002 it had 113000km on the clock and its only on 173000 now, so with a rebuild it should last forever.
4. Would I get anything comparable for the same dollars?/Will it seize/catch on fire/????? and will I just be in this position in another few years.

tackle shop woes
Submitted by Feral on Wed, 2009-12-02 23:00having a bit of a gripe tonight.
this morning i decided to head to bunbury to go looking for a new boat for a friend and do some tackle shopping while there. usually i would go to gotone but mark isnt in the game anymore (damn you :P). so i went for a look in the only other 3 shops i know of. (bcf, leasure and sport and complete angler) all are near bunnings.
do you think its possible to get some service ?? i was in bcf for 30 minutes (no great suprise on no service),and spent about 20 minutes in the other 2 and didnt even get a hello... im all for shopping local. adn i dont mind paying the extra to keep them afloat. but they can get stuffed if im not going to get a simple "can we help you?"
on a happy note i think i saved $1000 by getting my new reels from a company in the USA tonight

Submitted by Dale on Tue, 2009-12-01 22:49My old camera, a canon ixus, only 3.2mp but was a damn good camera has died, looks like its been dropped, but when I asked if anyone had dropped it or done something, it was met with the normal, I dont know dad, yeah yeah, ok. Anyway, the wife asked if I wanted a new one for xmas, wow, does a one legged duck swim in circles? You bet. Anyway, thought long and hard and have settled on another Canon IXUS, an IXUS 200 IS, 12.1 Megapixels, all the fruit including a touch screen. Bring it on Santa!!

2 Unrelated Questions
Submitted by Paully on Tue, 2009-12-01 14:51
- I heard a theroy a long while ago now about twin outboard setups, the theory being that the total equivalent horsepower is another half of one on top of the two combined, confused yet, i.e 2 x 175hp motor is actually equivalent to a total of 435hp or therabouts - Is this true?
- Secondly I have also been told, recently this time, that amateur cray fisherman are not allowed to use electric pot winches and tipper trays on their boats - True or false? I find that a bit hard to beleive when businesses are actively advertising the manufacture and fitting of those products for the cray fisherman.
Cheers

12v socket in rear tray
Submitted by Buz on Mon, 2009-11-30 17:56Gday all, looking to get a 12v cigarette lighter socket put into the tray of my hilux. It will be cover by th canopy so not in the major elements. Mainly just want it for running accessories from the back, lights, small invertors etc. But would maybe even use it for a WAECO or Engel in the future if i borrow my friends ones.
Got a few quotes from auto electricians and they all said around the $160 mark for a standard single socket.
Just wondering if its better off me buying one of those WAECO RAPS 12v kits and installing it myself. The instructions seem easy enough and i can get one for $100. It says there is even a 'cut off' function where when the battery gets below a certain voltage it turns off.
Just wondering if anyone has installed one of these and how do they go?
Or alternatively does anyone know a cheap good auto sparkie?

Hello from East Timor
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Mon, 2009-11-30 16:13Hey Crew,
Just dropping a line in from East Timor. I've just been over at 'The Island' for the last 3 days in the fishing comp, unfortunately I didn't get to throw a line in much, but I did get some good photos!! Well, what can I say to sum it up, it was a mental couple of days with crazy amounts of alcohol being drunk, crazy activities and at some points, crazy fishing. I can't say much more than that as my time on this bunky internet is about out. I'm back in the land of Oz soon and will share some of the adventures!!
Tight lines, catchya all soon :)

4WD's under $10,000
Submitted by DazSamFishing on Sun, 2009-11-29 22:19Well, after having 2 cars, then reverting to 1 - we've again realised we really do need 2 vehicles.
Just after some suggestions please.
So car number 2 needs to be a 4WD (no softroaders), tough & reliable, easily repairable (local parts etc.), accommodate a 50kg German Shepherd & be <$10,000 to purchase.

Pinaroo Point
Submitted by esrun59 on Sun, 2009-11-29 19:55
Managed to get down to Pinaroo at about 5 this evening with 2 kids in toe so they could have a swim. With the wind still blowing quite strong so I as expecting to see heaps of weed coming in with the tide
.....................
Lo and behold, NO WEED !!!
. With my luck still holding true, no fish either. But I don't really care, the kids had a nice play in the water and I didn't get frustrated with the weed. Maybe next time my luck will change and I will catch my first something, hopefully not a kiter or sail boarder

Sparrows
Submitted by esrun59 on Sun, 2009-11-29 08:45Managed to drag myself out of bed at sparrows this morning to see what might be bighting off the rocks at Hillarys. Got there by 5 and fed the blowies till 7. Watching all the boats leaving the harbour I must say I was a bit envious, I hope they had more luck than me.
On the way home I called into the Nodes and Pinaroo to see how much weed was there, not sure if it was because of low tide or not but I could actually see the sand under the water and very little weed. I hope the weed does not come back in with the tide, because I think I will try the beach this evening
.
Something, some where (with the exception of blowies) is going to swallow my hooks

Fin-Nor reels
Submitted by Rudog on Fri, 2009-11-27 19:15Was recently looking (with only a lttle bit of drool) at the Fin-Nor 8500. A true mother of a reel.
Anyone have experience or comments on these reels, are they as good as they look and feel, and how much would you expect to pay for one new?
Suitable rods?
Any input appreciated please...
