xmas pressies

as xmas day is only a couple of days away now. what sort of gear have you bought for yourself or getting from someone else for xmas. im sure there will be lots of new combos out there being christened over the next week or so

Dive gear - snorkel / scuba

somtime next year when I get about 20 minutes to myself, I am going to get some lessons booked to get my scuba diving ticket. But in the meantime, after Sunday's swim I'm looking to upgrade my snorkeling gear (its about 6 or 7 years old and almost had it).

So basically if I buy a new mask/snorkel, do i need to have any specifically suited to scuba rather than free-diving? Also, what are some brands I should be looking at and where is a good place to shop around Perth??

Scuba gear - I'll ask the question closer to the date!

Showing respect to fellow FW members.

There have been some comments lately that were deemed to be below the belt and resulted in threads being pulled. Hopefully this will be read before the moderators step in. I have recently experienced very shabby treatment from fellow FW members. I attended the FW south west drinks on Friday night and while the turnout was a bit disappointing due to clashes with other partys, the evening began on a very convivial level and then unfortunately deteriorated downwards. After two people in paticular drank the local brewery out of wheat beer, they coerced me into accompanying them to a late night dive across the road. Suffice to say as a regular Fanta drinker i can handle my food dyes - but their insistence at some time in the early hours of the morning that we we order refreshments based on drink colour was more than i could cope with - and i can handle Lime Coola family bottles on my own! Shame on you both and shame on Damo's Rotty who i think had something to do with the awful taste in my mouth when i woke up - i managed to sneak away from Damo's when he was passed out ( the red food colouring had worn off ) and crawl to the Caltex for a 2 litre coke and a double bacon burger. I did not go fishing with Damo on Saturday as i had committed to do - i'm nobody's free burley bucket. Shame fellas, shame.

Myallup

Hi guys, I'm heading to Myalup for a week after Christmas, thinking about taking the dingy but not sure if there is any sort of reef or structure out from there or if it's just sand. Also would it be worth trying drop nets for crabs there.Any info would be appriciated. Cheers.

Spray Rails

After getting wet from spray thrown up from the bow of the boat I thought it was time to do something about it.Gave a mate a ring in his workshop to see if he had any 80mm flat ali to Tig on to the chines."Yep,got some" was his reply.Took the boat round the next day and pulled everything out of it,motor, canopy[needed a touch up anyway] and most of the floatation from around the sides.Measured up how much we would need and found there wasn't enough 80mm but ample 100mm,so 100 it is.

After about 4 hours heating, bending and Tig welding we had a pair of spray rails on plus a few doubts on whether they were too big and would bite in on a following sea possibly causing the boat to broach easily.Oh well,we agreed,it will only take 20 minutes with a saw to trim them back to a reasonable length.

Boat all back together and time for the moment of truth, cut the spray down by 90% and no effect on performance with a follwing sea, more stable at rest and while travelling with more lift.Abloke should have done it ages ago instead of dreaming and talking about it.

First Blood

After a lot of patience and perseverance I have finally managed to catch my first fish. They might have only been Herring, and there might have only been 2 but it beats the hell out of blowies Laughing. I also managed to watch a nice sun set, followed by the moon setting at Pinaroo Point. Now the weed has gone and the weather is warming up, Pinaroo Point is a good place to relax and fish Wink.

Breakfast of champions!

Myself and a mate nailed a lazy 10 in an hour and in fishing terms "left them biting". Most were around this size (~150mm carapace) with a few bigger ones.

Was good just to get back in the water, hadn't done it in ages.

Peninsula Palms Dampier

G'day all, I'm booked into this place for when I'm working in Dampier as of next Monday. I cant find nothing out about this place and most travel web sites make it out as pretty dodgy and basic. Can anyone tell us a bit about it please, it would put me and the missus at ease a bit.

Cheers

Popper Rod

Hi all,

Looking at some rod suggestions around the 9-10 foot mark (2pc) for something I can comfortably flick poppers and slices all day.

Will be good for hunting tailor and then onto the salmon season, too tiring using the 12 footer.

fishing reels

anyone know about pelagic extreme lever drag game fishing reel

Meekatharra - Urgent!

Is anyone near to Meekatharra right now? Apparently the father in law has just dumped his boat on the side of the road 120km north of Meekatharra after blowing out both trailer tyres on the way down from up north, leaving all my bro in laws fishing and dive gear in the boat. If anyone is within driving distance a reward would be offered and mannnnny thanks for the return of the gear, some of it is very sentimental. I presume the boat might have even been emptied already by someone driving by but if anyone hears of some of the gear, the old boat rod is the most imporant thing, being given to my bro by his late grand father. Was over 6k worth of gear in there.... not a happy family situation right now. I think the father in law in in meekatharra tonight and may go back in the morning but doubt there will be anything left by then.

I know it's a long shot that anyone would be near there, but thought I'd try.

Thanks!

Hopetoun

Hi

I'm thinking of heading down to Hopetoun or around there. Somewhere between Bremmer Bay and Esperence.

Just pack up the 4X4 and camp on the beach for a few days

Can anybody recommend any spots worth trying down that way?

Apart from Salmon, what else am I likely to encounter?

Thanks

ACDC 6th March Tickets Swap for 8th March Show

My brother has just realized he is double booked for AC/DC 6th March Show(Phoenix is playing same night).

Him and 2 mates want to trade their 6th March tickets for the Monday show on 8th March.

1 x Arena 1 (left of stage?)
2 x Arena 2 (right of stage?)

Both are $149.90 tickets (side of stage).

This is a great opportunity for anyone who got stuck with the second show tickets to get in on the Saturday night first show. PM if you are interested.
