Hello from Northern Hemisphere
Submitted by Tomaszek on Thu, 2010-01-14 06:15Hi All,
my name is Tommy and I registered just a few days ago. I found fishwrecked through YouTube after Adam posted some vids of jumping marlin :)
I’m based in the Republic of Ireland but originally I came from Poland.
Please never mind that I’m on the Northern Hemisphere almost exactly on the opposite side of the world. Australia was always the place that I considered the fishing destination. Probably because of Rex Hunt’s shows that I was watching back in the days in Poland as a kid.
Because in the next year or so I’m planning longer holidays it is quite possible that I will finally fly over to Australia. So I thought that I may register on the forum and over the time get some knowledge about fishing in your country. So when I finally set my foot on Australian soil I will have some local knowledge.
Here in Ireland I’m mainly enjoying fishing for sharks (almost exclusively blue sharks as due to commercial pressure other species of sharks were wiped out and are very rare these days). You can see some of my fishing in my blog http://wedkarskieprzygody.blogspot.com/ although probably only photos will be meaningful to you as my blog is in polish.
So "Hi there" again to all of ye and I hope you don’t mind if I post some questions on the forum from time to time.
Cheers
Tommy

MacBook owners.......
Submitted by kaney68 on Wed, 2010-01-13 17:29I have just recently changed over from a Windows based laptop to a MacBook Pro...
Best move I have made in ages
However, one thing I have noticed since changing over, is when using the forum my posts are not displaying correctly - ie: no line breaks after hitting enter !
Any ideas ??
Even by hitting return twice, I still get no line break.
It looks ok when typing, have even tried to disable rich-text, but buggers up when posted !
edit.. have noticed if disabling rich-text works ok.... but disabling rich-text and the previewing it has issues..

Yeah baby - Redbacks first team into 2010 Champions League
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Wed, 2010-01-13 00:28Just need somewhere to gloat and celebrate the (SA) West End Redbacks wiping the floor with Tassie tonight to a) quality for the KFC Big Bash final; and b) be the first team to qualify for the 2010 Champions League competition.
Woot!
Getting Afridi and Pollard on board has paid off this year but it's not like they've carried the team, they're complemented it quite well. Can't wait to see how they go in the final but really looking forward to see how they go in the main event later this year...

Cockburn Crabs 11/01/10
Submitted by Rodrat on Mon, 2010-01-11 19:50Hi All
With some tips and advice from Ryan, i headed out in the sound this morning around 6am for a feed of crabs.
Wind was good and the crabs didn't dissapoint. Also managed a few good size herring on sml metal slices.
We got a total of 17 oversize crabs and around 10 or so undersize that were released, some of which were female stuffed with eggs.
Got back to the ramp about 10.30am and enjoyed fresh crabs for lunch and they were very sweet and tasty. Thanks again for the tips Ryan.
Cheers Marc

Boat Covers, bimini, clears, fibreglass repairs and re-spaying
Submitted by Bert on Sat, 2010-01-09 08:57G'day, I'm planning to give my boat a bit of a spruce up. Can anyone recommend a good marine trimmer for making boat covers, modifying existing bimini and adding clears, internal upholstery / seating? I would also like to get a few small gel coat repairs done inclusive of re-spray of repaired areas? I live on the Southside of the river but am happy to travel for good workmanship and keen prices. Any advice / recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bayden.

here is a serious question for dhuie hunters
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sat, 2010-01-09 07:49i know people will say they hunt them for a feed and so forth and some go after them for fun but what is the true reason so many people go out to target the dhufish.is it because they are big and bulky and you get more flesh for your fish or is it because everyone says they are the top fish to catch. For me i would rather catch other fish for their taste but if a dhuie comes along (not too often tho ) i wouldnt say no to it. so tell us , what are your reasons for targeting the iconic species to W A

406 Mhz EPIRB
Submitted by Bert on Fri, 2010-01-08 19:57Has anyone tried to register their 406 Mhz EPIRB and found that the HEX ID no. on the EPIRB has been assigned to someone else? I tried to register online today and was advised by an AMSA automated message that the EPIB HEX ID no. was in use by another person. I assumed that these ID's were EPIRB specific. I purchased the EPRIB yesterday and it was new stock. I'll call AMSA on Monday and sort it out and advise accordingly.
Cheers,
Bayden

Southbound festival on again
Submitted by Dale on Fri, 2010-01-08 10:12The place is cranking up for this again, people are pouring in to get the best camping spots. Seems every police man and woman is down here at present. We got a nice surprise in the mail during the week with our resident passes as concert goers like to park in here as it's close to the event, but they're stopping that this year. Enclosed were 2 complimentary tickets to the event for Saturday and Sunday. Might take a wander over there on Sunday and see what the fuss is about. Wolfmother are on Saturday night, but my kids got the tickets for that one.
Cheers

A heart warming story
Submitted by Shorty on Thu, 2010-01-07 22:24Well i thought it was at first glance, a friend posted it up on a U.S lawnmowing forum thought you guys might find it interesting,,,
Did i ever tell u guys this story? I don't remember. Want to hear it? Too bad, i'm telling it anyway
The year was, perhaps, 1994. It was my 2nd year in business. I had a total of 3 customers the year before. I'll never forget this episode.....there was a slight chill in the air, it was dark, and i was alone. It was spring time in central new jersey. I decided to go driving around putting business cards in mail boxes. I put out maybe 20. Two days later, i got a call. Boy, was i excited. I ran right over. The lady answered the door and let me in, we sat down in the dining room. Her husband was sitting at the table in his wheel chair. Across the room i saw a fully loaded bar, and the lady sipped a non colored drink, and smelt of booze.
The man went on to tell me how they wanted the lawn to look good. They didn't have much money because the accident left him paralized from the waist down and he hadn't seen a paycheck in 2 yrs. I felt awefull. The poor guy, crippled, it was sad. He goes on to say that in spite of their financial situation, they don't ask for much but, if they could just have a decent lawn they would be so happy. You see, since the accident, he is house bound basically, and all he wants is a pretty lawn to park his wheelchair on and spend time outside. The previous year they hired a company to renovate the lawn. They paid $900 for aeration/seed, the lawn was around 5k. They even showed me the invoice. But the lawn was terrible. Now in those days, i didn't even know what aeration was. I looked over the place and recomended thatching/seeding. The price was $350. He looked sad...you see...since the accident, they could barely put food on the table. $350 was not something they could handle. I felt so sad for them. Then he asks, " if i give $50 right now, will you do the job, and i can give you $50 every month until it's paid off?" I felt so bad for them....yes, i agreed.
So the next day i rented a thatcher, bought 25 lbs of seed, and went to work. I took about 15 giant garbage bags full of thatch from that lawn. Seeded it, and felt good in my heart, that i had helped somebody who was in such and unfortunate position.
About 3 weeks later i was in the area, and decided to drive by to see how the job was comming along. As i got close to the house....i couldn't believe my eyes.....it was the guy, he was WALKING from the garage to the car CARRYING a set of golf clubs on his back..........
I never did get paid for that job

KEY HIGHWAY LINK BETWEEN NT AND WA UPGRADED
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2010-01-07 12:15The Member for Lingiari, Warren Snowdon and the Member for Stuart, Karl Hampton, officially opened a major upgrade of the Victoria Highway today that will help prevent the national road link being closed during wet season flooding.
Mr Snowdon said the Australian Government funded a $50 million upgrade, which has seen the completion of the Victoria River Bridge, and crossings over Joe, Lost and Sandy Creeks as part of the Accelerated Victoria Highway Upgrade package.
Mr Snowdon said the Victoria Highway is a key link in the Perth to Darwin corridor for tourism, defence, mining, cattle and transport industries.
“This project delivered four new higher level bridges and raised 7.5 kilometres of road to make the highway more reliable in the wet season.
“Historically these sections of the road have closed every wet season for on average five days due to flooding, and extreme rainfalls causing the road to close for weeks at a time.
“Now average closure times will be reduced to less than eight hours rather than weeks during extreme rainfall events,” Mr Snowdon said.
The new Victoria River Bridge, located about 200 kilometres south west of Katherine, is 7.5 metres higher and twice the length of the old bridge nearby, and incorporates a pedestrian walkway.
The $50m Victoria Highway Upgrade package includes:
Raising the Victoria Highway Bridge by 7.5 metres
Replacing the Joe Creek Culvert with a new higher level bridge
Raising the Lost Creek Bridge by 7.5 metres
Replacing the Sandy Creek Bridge
Improving the Flood immunity of two low lying sections on the floodplain via major embankment works
A total of 7.5 kilometres of major roadworks
