Xtreme coolers monthly specials

Hi all

Many thanks to you all for the great support i have received so far while being a small sponsor of the fishwrecked site. This month we are taking $25 of the price of the XT 120 litre cooler box. This makes the new monthly price $225.00 for fishwrecked members.

Xtreme coolers will also be exhibiting the quality range of cooler boxes at next months Caravan and Camping expo at the Claremont show grounds. We are very excited about this as it will coincide with the arrival of a new container which imcludes the new fibreglass range.

Remember, if you would like to view the range, this can be done at either South Perth or Mount Lawley or i could come to you.

I will be heading North to Kalbarri late February and will be stopping off at a few places on the way. This will be a bonus for those who do not live locally and are keen to see the range. So, if you live between Perth and Kalbarri, this is your chance to get free delivery.

I have also been having a few enquiries from towns further north, such as Karratha. Freight is very expensive on a per box ratio, however, sending boxes on a full pallet drastically reduces the price. Get a few mates together and save. For example: sending the XT 100 Mackerel by itself will cost $90.00. On a pallet with another 6 or 7 boxes reduces the price to around $30.00. This makes things much more affordable.

If you have any questions, give me a ring on 0403 978 583 or send me an email through fishwrecked and i can get back to you.

telling it like it is.... I love this Dr.

http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/go-on-a-fking-diet-doctor-tells-woman/story-e6frfku0-1225829150973

you got give this doctor credit for telling it as it is.
In today's world we far to Politically Correct and soft-footed around to many issues...
diet being called "lifestyle"
rape being called "unlawful intercourse " or even " non-consensual inter-mate physical contact"

We should be back to the days a spade was called a spade and not a manual soil removal implement!

Are we too scared to tell people the truth or should we sugar coat every pill life throws our way... and does this sugar-coating lead to two generations of kids growing up now not knowing "cause and effect" and that they responsible for their own actions in life!

And yes I know I'm fat and 10kg over weight, I face it, acknowledge it and work with it, bit like admittance into AA clinics. You don't here them saying " Hi I'm Peter and I may have a chemical bond with Ethanol liquid!!!"

Deadliest Catch Skipper Dies

All the fans of "Deadliest Catch"will saddened to hear of the death of Cornelia Marie skipper Phil Harris. He suffered a massive stroke and died on Tuesday. http://corneliamarie.com I am sure he will be missed by the fans of the series

Mustang Walkaround

Hi all, my bro tells me that he is seriously considering buying a Mustang W/Around 22-24ft, apparently with a 225hp Suzi 4 stroke on the back of it. It has been a long time since I have been on the water and in particular in a trailer boat. I realise that it is a bit of a generic question but has anyway had any experience with these boats, any storys - good or bad! I may be wrong but I think these boats are built over here in the west.

Cheers Smile

Rainbow from nowhere land

Just on the way to the beach the other day and this lovely critter came out of no where..

Was lovely to see but still no sight of any rain here in Exmouth. This is just over the road from our house , good to see out your front door!!

Jeff

And yet we have lost another event !

First we lost Rally Australia as the state government happily offered our number 1 iconic sporting event to anyone who wanted it on a golden platter....

Now we have lost the Perth leg of V8 Supercars series !

Bring on another round of the World Flying Disc Championships or maybe World Series Chess.

You've got to love this place, it's people and our government - well maybe not the last option !

Cray pots

I am thinking of getting a couple of cray pots for recreational catch

what are the pro's and cons of plastic vs wooden pots

cheers fellas

Log on/log off

Got a call from Carnarvon sea rescue base at 1800 last night that a boat was overdue,so headed off down to the base, pissed off because I had just opened my second can!!
Many radio calls, phone calls to local and water police came to dead ends.Trailer number plates from the boat ramp were traced and owners notified and our vessel register and water police data base couldn't come up with the name of the boat in question. On advice of the local cops a radio watch was maintained through the night,I got to bed just before midnight with the alarm set at 0400 for a run to the gap area of the islands to have a look just in case.Unfortunately our rescue boat had done an alternator in on Sunday morning and the earliest Smithy, our local auto sparky could get to it was 0700 this morning so we had to use a members 7 metre boat.
We arrived back to shore at 1100 having done something in the region of 120 nautical miles and nothing to report.

All up there were 2 members who had to take a day off work, one from monitoring the radio untill 0500 when Carnarvon weather could take over the watch, the other chap was the boat owner,my hours don't count, the time local and water police took checking rego's of vehicles, boats.tralers at the boat ramp etc and last of all the 170-180 litres of petrol used.

I would love to publish the name of the boat in question but ???

Piercam

has anyone sat down and watched the piercam that runs at the navy pier in exmouth.

great to sit and watch , you see some great footage , just wish it was a bit clearer

skippers choice

just curious as to what you skippers do when you take a friend or family out for a fish and they get horribly seasick.

do you make them grin and bear it or do you return to land to ease their suffering.

for us , we tell our guests that we wont be returning if you get seasick , its up to them then whether to risk it or take a seasick tablet. we offer them one as we always have them at hand as my wife is a chronic sufferer

Temporary Tow Vehicle

Some of you may have read previously about our bad luck.... Still waiting to get the head gaskets replaced on the cruiser and being on holidays in Busselton had to end up hiring a car to get around. Wonder if this would tow the swifty or be better as a temporary mooring Cool

Cheers,

David

Any Dream Teamers?

Hi Guys

with the afl season rapidly approaching and with the amazing rise in popularity of the dream team i have set up a fishwrecked league.

so if any of you guys want to join the league the code is 215938.

just think it will be a bit of fun to see who is the best 'coach' on the site.

Albany -camping/snorkling.. hopefully fishing. Where to stay?

Spent my last week off up at Sandy Cape, north of Jurien with my partner. Fishing was very average, though i didnt explore much at all wasnt able to do any decent missions.

... so this time im looking to head south for 4-5 days. Where ever i can get in about 8 hours of travel that is road friendly to a little Hyundai Excel ( 4WD is on my list of things to buy very soon). Camping with some nice beaches close by, and a few easy walk in spots for some rock fishing. Im keen to burley up a bit and bring a few in during the mornings/evening. But also want some places to snorkle with my partner that is nice and calm.

Any information or ideas would be great, as i really know nothing about the area but am keen to explore a bit.. so i can head back there at some point for LBG fishing only.

Cheers,

George.

Dog escapes Mandurah shark attack

A shark tried to grab a dog at a beach south of Perth this morning.

A Mandurah couple told Water Police the dog had been near the water's edge on the dog beach near Halls Head about 7.45am when they saw a fin and then a tail of what they believed was a shark.

Water Police supervisor Lou Hynd said the couple told police the shark lunged at the dog but was not able to bite it.

"The woman told us that from where it was its belly would have been hitting the sand, that's how close in it was," he said.

The Surf Life Saving helicopter sent to the scene sighted a 2.5m shark about 250m offshore in the same area.

"It could have been the same one because the couple thought the shark they saw was about 3m," Mr Hynd said.

Mr Hynd did not know what type of shark it was.

Water Police and the Fisheries Department also searched the area.

Authorities closed the beach about 10am after the Surf Life Saving helicopter spotted the shark offshore.

A Fisheries Department boat headed to the scene but lifesavers on the helicopter lost sight of the shark minutes later as it headed into deeper water.

Water Police reopened the dog beach about 45 min later

Lobsters

OK I got my pots but have not got my acto togethter and launched or dropped them yet ;l)I am wondering I got info on how to drop them :) and I should drop them on the outside of the three mile currently ? But I am left wondering a few little things, does everyone drop pots near each other or spread them out ? I assume 6 Lobsters is my limit, but the boat limit is 6 if two people on board do both of those people need a licnese ? or does it just require two people ? (optimistic i know :) ) Then if I catch any what do I do ? :) I will drop them toomorrow and pull them the next day but aslo going fishing on sat so do I pull them on the return trip ? what do I do with the actual hopefully caught life lobsters prior to BBQ that is :))) put them on ice ? keep them in water ? how do u help them pass to the other side ?

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stickers get fishos unstuck

Stickers get fishos unstuck

Fisho recently received an email from reader David regarding the use of bag and size limit  stickers as issued by the various state fisheries departments. In this particular case the enquiry related to a NSW angler who had used a NSW Fisheries sticker to measure the legal length of a kingfish, an action that later almost saw him come "unstuck".

David's email:

A guy in Sydney had an education from Fisheries several weeks ago.

The story goes like this....the bloke caught a Kingy....measured it on his Fisheries sticker and it measured 65cm....happy days with one for the BBQ.

Along come Fisheries....check the bloke has a licence which he does....they then check the length of his Kingy....slight problem....Fisheries measure it at 64.1cm .....the bloke asks Fisheries to measure it on his Fisheries sticker and sure enough it measures 65cm....Fisheries let him off with a caution...it could have been a $300 fine!!!.....Fisheries advise this guy that their stickers are not a legal form of measure, it does say this in small print on the sticker....when the guy gets home he measures each sticker he has in his boat ( two of them)...the first measures 64cm at the 65cm mark and the other measures 63.8cm at the 65cm mark.

Anyway just something to keep in mind.

Fisho contacted a spokesperson from NSW I&I about this issue and received the following clarification on the use of these stickers:

Response to Fishing World magazine re rec fishing stickers, 14th January 2010.

Industry & Investment NSW (I&I NSW) provides these stickers free of charge as a service to the anglers of NSW and clearly states on the product that it is a guide only and not a legal measure of length.

The stickers are produced using the highest quality vinyl, however I&I NSW is aware the stickers may be affected if stored at high temperatures for an extended period of time, which may result in slight shrinkage.

In an effort to reduce this issue, I&I NSW will advise agents who provide the stickers to store them out of sunlight and to avoid long term storage.

In most cases the stickers will not shrink once the sticker is adhered to a hard surface such as the side of a boat, esky or tackle box.

NSW Fisheries Officers are aware that the stickers are a guide only, as clearly stated on the ruler, and provided as a service to anglers.

Geelong - Stokes

Just wondering what you all think about this latest incident (Stokes - drugs).  All you Geelong supporters must be spewing.  Once again the club being dragged through the sh$t. Why would he do it?  He had everything (except premiership medals), good club, strong team, great future...

Even myself being a hawks supporter I am extreemly disappointed.

parts for 350 chev

could anyone tell me the best place to look for a starter motor for a 350 chev, dont have the $ at the moment but its good to know where to look. Chevpower can do one for $280.

Also apart from a heavy duty marine battery , what battery could be good for the 2nd battery in the boat

What is happening with the $30 fishing licence

Is the $30 fee still going to be in place. There is nothing about it on the fisheries web site, other than what was talked about last year. It was going to happen in March but there is no where to pay for it yet. You can pay for all the other licences like crays etc but nothing about the boat fishing licence . Is it still a goer ? Will I need one for Gamex ?

need garden retic done. Who's the best??

Anyone have a system done and would recomend them?

What do you lot do to earn a crust??? - 2010

Hi Crew,

Just saw the users post and the topic of what everyone does for a living came up and as noted, many of us have changed jobs and there are a heap of new members.

I'll start it off:

I used to work for DoF as a finfish researcher (spanglies, reds and spaniards), but now work at Marinefarms as an aquaculture technician growing barra and dolphinfish in Exmouth.  Also studying OHS at tafe this semester to go with a management degree that I studied previously.  Will hopefully be getting my coxwain's soon to go hunt coral trout for broodstock at work when our license goes through. :) I also have run/owned fishwrecked for the last 5 years, write for the reeltime mag and have the telstra payphone contract for town as well.

Cheers,

Adam

Photos for shop display

For any of our regular customers we are setting up a new photo display via the main big plasma tv.

So if people want to bring some pics in the shop for us to scan and use, or bring them in on disk or usb it would be great, a mixture of fish or locations etc would be ideal.

Thanks
