Went to north mole beach to try fishing for big flathead etc. was there about 30 odd mins an got a nice bite on my 20kg rod. 2assholes came towards me having been fishing away from me for a while. One tried to grab my rod while other was mouthing off.

Long story short I've a black eye idiot num 1 lost a tooth an num 2 ran off....

Is it me, or does Perth have a high number of mental midgets at night.??

 Hey guys heading up to Broome at end of April/start of May and looking to get out for a days fishing. Can anyone recommend a charter up there?

Looking for advice on fishing in South Australia. I leave for Melbourne next week to pick up my new boat and I have a mate flying over on Sunday week to meet me in Melbourne to help with the drive back. We were planning to do some fishing on the way back for 3 to 4 days around Coffin Bay, Streaky Bay, Ceduna, Port Lincoln area. Any advice that people are prepared to share about fishing these waters in South Australia would be much appreciated. i used to have a black and gold one  but lost it years ago. They are  bout 18-20cm long and hard resin

body. Used to use them commercial mackie fishing up nt but for the life of me can't remember what they were called.

Some nights are seeing up to half a dozen mulloway between 10 and 20kg caught at Fremantle Harbour spots such as behind the E-Shed and A-Shed. Blackwall Reach and Mosman Bay would also be worth a try for mulloway given the nearby activity. More mulloway ranging from soapies to 20kg and bigger have been caught from the metropolitan beaches. Apparently the mulloway captures have been widespread with both the southern and northern stretches producing fish. Tailor have also been coming from along the coast together with a few herring and sand whiting.

The sand flats in lower reaches of the Swan continue to fish well for flathead whereas black bream are being found in reasonable numbers around Ascot, Maylands, Heirisson Island and Shelley. Blue manna crabs are still abundant through Perth waters. Spanish and shark mackerel have been turning up within Cockburn Sound together with schools of longtail tuna. Schools of small southern bluefin and striped tuna have been found in depths starting at 20m off Rottnest. The Fish Aggregating Devices are starting to attract bigger numbers of dolphin fish. Marlin have recently been encountered at the Rottnest Trench.

Weather looks good and with good catches in the shallower warmer waters of the river, there will be enough options to wet one's appetite.

Mulloway and tailor have been a regular catch on the Bunbury beaches along with quality numbers of blue manners. Early mornings and evenings are seeing some nice tailor caught along the west coast at spots including the Gracetown area, Mitchells, Smiths Beach and Windmills. Small tailor have also been turning up at Bunker Bay, Eagle Bay and Old Dunsborough.

Herring have been thick at Injidup, which probably explains why a few salmon have also been coming from there. The boats have been finding dhufish, baldchin groper and pink snapper in about 40m off the west coast and in the bay. Blue manna crab and squid numbers seem to have decreased.

If you're working in the morning, not to worry a nice little exciting bite time will peak around 2pm for an hour or so. The moon down period from 8pm til 10pm will give fishers confidence to try for some mulloway.

A 10-tonne school of salmon was present along Reef Beach last week with many shore-based anglers enjoying some entertaining sessions on the 4 to 6kg fish. Big schools have also been showing up at Fosters while Bornholm and Nanarup were among the spots closer to town to regularly produce fish. Sand Patch have also been seeing a few salmon appear at times. Tailor have been occasionally turning up at Nanarup in the evenings. Herring are starting to increase their presence along the coast with the more remote areas holding better numbers of the bread and butter species.

Dinghy fishers and those in small boats, who regularly work the inshore waters, report the sound and Oyster Harbour to be producing some nice King George whiting together with a few flathead, squid, sand whiting and pink snapper between 25 and 30cm, as well as the very odd size snapper. The bigger boats were greeted with several pleasant days during the past week and those who took advantage of the conditions found queen snapper, breaksea cod, samson fish, a few dhufish and fair numbers of red snapper along the coral in 65 to 70m.

The waters off Cheynes, Two Peoples Bay and Cosy Corner seemed to produce better catches of reef fish than those straight out from town. Quite a few black bream in the 40s were caught in the local rivers this past week. Apparently surface lures have been working well on the bream. Two customers of Albany Rods and Tackle managed to entice several bream on a variety of soft plastics during a session in the Hay last week.

The major moon up period should see bite activity increase between 7:30am and about 10am. If you're working in the morning, not to worry a nice little exciting bite time will peak around 2pm for an hour or so. The moon down period from 8pm til 10pm will give fishers confidence to enjoy a successful night fish. 

Big schools of salmon have been appearing along Roses Beach while Fourteen Mile, Salmon Beach, Fourth Beach, Poison Creek, Alexander and Kennedys have also been seeing their fair share of salmon show up. Several mulloway to 18kg were also caught at Fourteen Mile recently. Plenty of herring and a few squid continue to be caught from the jetty, especially early morning. Bandy Creek is worth a visit for sand whiting, herring and King George whiting.

Southern bluefin tuna to 15kg have been caught on trolled lures and there have been reports of fish estimated to 50kg being hooked and lost. The boats that targeted reef fish last week reported catching big nannygai to 3.5kg, harlequin fish and breaksea cod.

Recfishwest Esperance Catches

The new moon next week shouldn't put fishers off this weekend. Weather looks good and with good catches in the both in close and out wide, there will be enough options to wet one's appetite.  The major moon up period should see bite activity increase between 7:30am and about 10am.

If you're working in the morning, not to worry a nice little exciting bite time will peak around 2pm for an hour or so.
The moon down period from 8pm til 10pm is also an option for the avid or novice night fisher.

The Flat Rocks to the Greenough stretch and the beaches north of Drummonds have been producing typical summer tailor to 40cm most mornings and evenings. Plenty of herring have also been coming from these areas while whiting have been an addition along the northern beaches.

Tailor and herring have also been picked up from the rocks at the front beach. A mix of bread and butter species including school whiting and yellowtail can be caught from the back of the breakwater. Explosives has been producing heaps of pike and herring. School mackerel have been turning up within casting distance for shore-based fishers at the northern side of the new marina. The boats have been picking up good numbers of dhufish and baldchin groper near African Reef. Some huge coral trout to 85cm have been caught by spear fishers around Africans.

The major moon up period should see bite activity increase between 7:30am and about 10am. If you're working in the morning, not to worry a nice little exciting bite time will peak around 2pm for an hour or so. The moon down period from 8pm til 10pm will give fishers confidence to try for mulloway.

Early morning has been the better time to target tailor and herring at Wittecarra and Red Bluff. A few mulloway have also been coming from these beaches as well as from the coastal stretch north of town. A customer of Kalbarri Sports and Dive caught two tailor in five casts on Roosta poppers, at the change of tide about 12.30pm, at Chinamans one day last week. Inland rainfall has sent dirty water through the Murchison and which usually means mulloway on the edge of the clean water near the river mouth.

Black bream are expected to be pushed farther downstream by the influx of freshwater. Mangrove jack are occasionally being caught near the pens and there are still a few yellowfin whiting coming from the sand flats. An impressive 13kg red emperor was among a few smaller reds and dhufish caught out wide last week. Pink snapper seem to be hanging around the shallower ground. Yellowfin tuna to 30kg and Spanish mackerel continue to be encountered by those trolling.

If you're working in the morning, not to worry a nice little exciting bite time will peak around 2pm for an hour or so. The moon down period from 8pm til 10pm will give fishers confidence to try for mulloway or just enjoy a night fish.

Some entertaining shore-based session have been experienced along the gulf beaches – extending from the tip of the cape right through to the lower gulf creeks –  as well as along the west coast. Masses of hardy heads are stacked up close to shore in the gulf and, in turn, are attracting predatory fish such as queenfish, small giant trevally and other trevallies. Early mornings or late evenings have been the better times to target the queenies and trevs.

The crew aboard Diversity accomplished a billfish grand slam last week landing three striped marlin, one black marlin and a sailfish in one day. They also hooked a blue marlin on the day, but unfortunately it broke its tether. The reef fishing has been equally as good with reports of ruby job fish, red emperor and rankin cod being caught in big numbers. Mick Allardyce and few mates enjoyed their recent weeklong stay catching a variety of species in the shallows that included queenfish and trevally and even got onto some marlin during their sessions out wide. 

Recfishwest Exmouth Fishing Forecast

The new moon next week just in time for fishers to get some training in before Gamex and shouldn't put fishers off this weekend. Weather looks ok and with plenty to play for in the next few weeks and fish a-plenty of late, there will be enough options to wet one's appetite. 

The major moon up period should see bite activity increase between 7:30am and about 10am. If you're working in the morning, not to worry, a nice little exciting bite time will peak around 2pm for an hour or so. The moon down period from 8pm til 10pm will give keen fishers a night option too.

The boats have been picking up quite a few bluebone in Roebuck Bay together with a few fingermark bream while those who have been heading a little wider have been adding blue lined emperor to their bags. Barramundi continue to be caught in the lower reaches of the Fitzroy at spots that include Telegraph Pool and Langis Crossing.

Crab Creek has been producing a few small barra whereas the other local creeks have mostly been seeing bluenose salmon caught. Try the jetty around the change of tide for queenfish and trevally. A few barra have also been turning up at the popular structure during the past few weeks.

Recfishwest Broome Fishing Forecast

The new moon next week shouldn't put fishers off this weekend. Weather looks good in the mornings and with good catches of barra coming in and blueblone hanging around, there will be enough options to wet one's appetite. 

The major moon up period should see bite activity increase between 7:30am and about 10am. If you're working in the morning, not to worry a nice little exciting bite time will peak around 2pm for an hour or so. The moon down period from 8pm til 10pm hopefully (if the weather holds out) should see some productive night fishing.

 This is just a hypothetical question. There is a lot of controversy as to whether you can sell a mooring in the Swan river.  Why do you need a mooring ?  If you have a huge anchor why can't you just anchor your boat ? I can't find any legislation that says it's illegal. ....of course you would need to consider the location. .....

Heading up to Jurien for a bit of beach fishing and looking for some help.

I've always typically fished from the jetty (unsuccessfully) - however the blowies (and crowds) give me the irits!!

I'm aware you can fish from the marina rock wall however with small kids in tow that isn't going to work.

So I have the option of driving onto the beach north of the marina or there used to be an ability to drive onto the beach south of jurien as well, however last time I was there massive boulders blocked the road!

Not looking to steal anyone's secret spots - just a general hint as to whether I should head to the north beach, south beach or just walk south of the jetty.  (or try all 3)

 Am thinking of getting a rovex reel for my son and just wondered about the quality

Im looking to get a new Jigging reel to run PE3 line, and will be fishing with it in 40-120m of water, mainly targeting Sambos.

The two top options so far both at similar price are Daiwa Seagate hyper 3500 or Shimano Biomaster SW 5000.

the big choice im trying to make between the two is the Daiwa has more line capacity around 300m but only has 6kg drag presure, while the Shimano has 11kg drag presure but only holds around 225M. I am reluctant to go to a bigger size reel as the difference in weight/size from thease models up to next size is a fair bit, not sure if this would make the combo to heavy/unballanced for jigging.

What is your preferance in this situation line capacity or drag? Can anyone sugest any other sutable options in the same price range ($350ish).

Well the missus has told me to get out of the house and go fishing tonight, and who am I to argue with that haha
Only problem is I've never been out to much past sunset around the metro, winds looking a bit average so I'm thinking river is probably a safer bet than beach or jetty..

The one question we get asked ALL the time is " how do I read/use my sounder"?

 As my old baitrunner is about to be retired to the trophy room I have started to look at the long cast surf reels for chasing mulloway i run 50lb braid for mulloway so need something to hold at least 300m the reels i looked at have been the saltiga surf 6000 and the ultegra ci4 1400xtb

As much as i like the saltiga the slow ratio at 3.6-1  is putting me off due to needing to make up line quick when you got a big mulla in the surf, ultegra looks good and a bit cheaper but will it stand up to regular smokings by sharks?

or is there any other reels i could throw in the mix and is the casting that much better with the long spool?

Am selling a C map in the for sale section (it's the old orange type out of a Navman trackfish) Have read a bit in the navman operations pdf that seems to say points are stored to head unit but can be transferred to an empty card for backup. IE I think it says points are not stored on the C Map itself. but not sure ?????

I don't care too much about making money in the sale just wanted to hopefully help out someone who can use the parts etc.

 Am going crabbing tomorrow morning but unfortunately won't be able to cook up a storm until Friday avo, so I was just wondering whats the best way to store and maintain the crabs so they remain in good condition overnight? Was thinking straight into an ice-slurry then into the freezer once at home?

 I find myself in the unfortunate position of having to buy a new boat :-)  mostly approved by the minister or WAR and well more bloody WAR.

Now the new boat will be around the 6.8mtr range and it comes with a 150Hp.  

Now is that a 150HP, etec, yammi, suzuki,  this will lead the 2 stoke cheap version or 4 stroke .  me fan of 4 stroke
