BCF Kelmscott strikes again
Submitted by tassy on Wed, 2015-02-18 15:25SO I had to slum it today an go into BCF for bait, an decided to just window shop on what sort of gear I would need for boat fishing.. STUPID!!!... this big guy with a huge beard says to me. "heres the catalog, this is might be ok...."
I said to him "Does it matter if I use differnt rod size, hand lines, reels , etc etc where you go fishing. Any info is good at this point or you dont know ?"
an that was end of his customer service. I put the bait back an walked out LOL... Oceanside I'm a comin for yo tomorrow :D
BCF if you read this, you need some major sackings an hiring of people who actually know something...Ones you have, couldnt organise a egg an spoon race :(

Bremer Bay
Submitted by fuzzy79 on Wed, 2015-02-18 00:59does anybody have any hot tips on fishing in Bremer Bay. I am heading down there on Saturday for a week, taking a Genesis 520 boat.
Any suggestions on where the fish are? GPS positions would be great, but even suggested areas or depths. Looking to target anything, from herring and whiting, to skippy and snapper.
Finally, any crabs (of the blue manna variety) down that way?

Nth Stradbroke Island
Submitted by Daledugahole on Tue, 2015-02-17 18:22HI all,
Heading over to Nth straddy for a wedding at the end of the month and was thinking that I'll chuck a rod (maybe the 7 foot 3-5kg) in with the Surfboards. Don't really want to take too much fishing gear, maybe just a couple of trays of sp's and slices to chase the bread and butter species off the beach/flats if the weather is co-operating.
Anyone been there before and could give some advice regarding general spots, species and lures used? Not looking for a handrawn maps to the family secret spots or anything, just curious to see how the fellow snandgroupers fared over there.
Cheers

C/Burn Sound Sounder Shots
Submitted by Swompa on Tue, 2015-02-17 07:22Howdy All,
So on Sunday morning, I launched at Woodies Point at around 0800 and went for a putt around the sound in an effort to catch anything that would take the lures I was towing around, one at 7m, one at 3m and a popper on the surface.
I followed channel south, sitting around 300m off the end of the bulk jetties all the way down to TCYC in Rockingham, up to blinky bill, past D9 then back to Woodies. around 3.5 hours in total.
Whilst out and about, and from around that jetty where the Tuna was picked up last week, I kept coming across clumps like the below. Around 5 in total, with one massive clump north of the grain terminal lasting a good minute and a half on my sounder (got about 45 seconds of video but thought it must have been the sounder playing up)
Now for the whole venture I managed to catch three pieces of seaweed and my dog (she now knows why I shout at her when she runs past my lures).
Now for my question. If you were to come across a spot like this, what would you do?
Out of 6 fishing trips since May last year, I have managed to catch one fish. Once I catching table worthy, I will justify buying a better sounder but until that point, my wife plays good cop bad cop when I buy a new lure.

Ocean harvest off bunbury
Submitted by Fuzz on Mon, 2015-02-16 20:47Thought i would go for a look today off bunno to see if the crays were in. Few whites but mostly residentials. Bagged out in 9m for 2 dives so not all bad. Weather was shmicko so we ventured on to try get some whiting?. None of us took big bottom bashing rods so we persisted for a while and ende up with about 20 odd sandies, they wernt really on the chew so we thought bugger it and tied on heavier rigs and thought we woul hit a honey hole i found few weeks back for bangers, first drift ( no drift anchor ), we missed the mark by a fair way, second drift bang bang. Two in the boat and a third one was dropped by my bro in law. Big buck was 14.5kegs. So it was out with the scaling bag for the remainder of the whiting we hadnt used for bait and hm time it was. Seriously good fight from both dhus on the super light whiting outfits. Lines were crossed at one point and could even feel the death rattle traveling up the braid. Ohh well they must of been keen to come home with us, because 9 times out of 10 both fish would have been lost. Rods were both spooled with 15 pound braid.

Cheap electric reel advice.
Submitted by crano on Mon, 2015-02-16 19:41I am looking at buying a cheap electric reel for the wife to use in Coral Bay in May as she went ass up and broke her shoulder making her a bit handicapped when it comes to winding up fish.We need her fishing as she catches the most reds.I just want something to drag up fish from 60m and she may have to stick it in the rod holder and press the button after hooking the fish.
I have looked at what is around on the net and have found a couple of cheapys. One is a WFT electra speed 700pr and there is also the banax ones. They are both $400 to $500.Do you think they would survive keeping in mind we hook a few sharks.
Interested in opinions as I know nothing about them.
If anyone has something second hand for sale I would be interested.
Thanks.

Tsukiji fish market (Japan)
Submitted by Super peg on Mon, 2015-02-16 18:48So I recently got back from Japan, and while there I made it to the Tsukiji Fish Market,
the biggest fish market in the world. Needless to say it was chaos! Forklifts and trucks and Japanese running everywhere! Seen some massive tuna and a lot of them at the auctions! A marlin (striped I think)
a lot of other seafood inc. eel freaky looking crabs, prawns, massive squid and tonnes and tonnes of fish
and ate the best sashimi of my life! So nice and fresh and cost me around 8 bucks for huge meal!
anyone that is headed to Tokyo, it's a great experience and only a 10 min taxi ride and simple train ride home. Gotta get there early to get a spot though!
Couple pics, don't do it justice .

Think I'm a magnet for trouble when fishing
Submitted by tassy on Sat, 2015-02-14 19:27Went to north mole beach to try fishing for big flathead etc. was there about 30 odd mins an got a nice bite on my 20kg rod. 2assholes came towards me having been fishing away from me for a while. One tried to grab my rod while other was mouthing off.
Long story short I've a black eye idiot num 1 lost a tooth an num 2 ran off....
Is it me, or does Perth have a high number of mental midgets at night.??
I am getting to old to kick off like old days an really felt this one heh. Gonna give night fishing a miss unless I am up river somewheres. Seems small town Hobart or major city Perth no matter where you go the halfwits follow.
