Navionics Web
Submitted by Ol Tom on Sat, 2014-08-16 07:28Gedday All
Anyone use the Navionics web app? Its seems a handy thing were you can pick a spot to go for the next day with out firing up you sounder. I did that and travelled 25km offshore (which is a fair old distance in my little boat) to a lump that was supposed to be about 200mtrs round and ranging from 40mtrs to 30mtrs.
When we arrived on the spot i would say that it would be sqfer to there was no lump. Infact all we caught there was sand whiting!!
My sounder also run Navionics, which now gives me no confidence in heading out to spots on the charts.
Anyone got any thoughts on the accuracy or maybe a better site to look at.
Cheers

Kalbarri Fishing
Submitted by BaileyM on Fri, 2014-08-15 19:52Hi guys,
Heading to Kalbarri with a bunch of mates on Grand final weekend.
Is it worth taking the tinny up? I have never been and was originally just planning on some beach fishing.
What species would be best to target so I can prepare myself accordingly.
Any advice is much appreciated.

Large Fine Strong Hooks?
Submitted by timboon on Fri, 2014-08-15 09:52FW people,
I'm chasing some big hooks for fishing unweighetd SP's, I want them XXL and as light as possible but strong enough to not have to worry about straightening/snapping.... No Offset...
We used some fine strong hooks on Sails years ago in Broome that were ideal for setting in the beak and strong enough to land Sails to 20kg without problem...
Some of you sail chasers might have an idea,
Mainly Chasing Dhui's, fellas that are rigging 8-10" SP's might have my solution...
Cheers

Kayaking in the swan
Submitted by lachieH on Thu, 2014-08-14 21:11Hi everyone, I have got a yak that I want to use for a fish in the swan but don't know what places would be best. I have a plan to start at mount henry bridge or deep water point and troll hard bodies to the yacht club next to the applecross jetty. When I get to the yacht club I might throw a couple baits down under the boats and around the snags at the club hopefully for a bream. Then finish or the journey at the applecross jetty and fish a couple of snags in close there. When trolling the lures hopefully there will be a flathead hanging around there.
would that route work? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

LB fishing saturday
Submitted by Niko on Thu, 2014-08-14 20:46Hey all, been too long since i got out for a fish and reading the reports on the site has had me keen but been flat out with work/family commitments untill now. saturday arvo is looking possible so still a bit of a newbie who needs help with times and tides etc and was hoping for some advice, which would obviously been greatly appreciated!
anyways i can get out for a few hrs saturday arvo so ive been looking at the weather predictions etc and winds looking light so thats good but i also noticed its gonna be low tide. now ive read alot of reports and used the search function because id rather no the whats and whys as apposed to just being told yeh fish now no not then but im still curious if im on the right track. ive been having alot of fun fishing off the rocks around woodies this winter catching herring and the like and i just got a 9ft rod to soak a bait for bigger fish but with low tide turning when i get to my destination will this be a waste of time? so i started looking at an alternative and have heard bouncing lures for flathead can be productive at low tide and its something id love to improve in but then theyre usually a summer species, mabye with the nice weather saturday there could be a few laying in the sun?...
im leaning more towards chasing a few flatties atm near east freo or further down but mabye some of the more experienced fellas on hear can advise on whether its a waste of time or just poor odds, or even just if low tide off the rocks will turn up more than a few herring, id be happy with some decent sized skippy (only caught 2 babies as of yet)
cheers in advance for any help guys
Niko

Please Help - Saturday fishing trip
Submitted by Tchampney on Thu, 2014-08-14 18:38Hi all,
My name is Tim and ive been a fishwrecked member for around 3 years now. After a recent 7 month trip to QLD im back in the waters of WA and keen to get the tub wet on saturday. I cant find my gps and was after some direction around garden island. The boat im taking out is a 4.5m centre console plate with a 50hp yammy fourstroke. I was looking at heading around the top end of garden island and carnac island or 5FB. I live at secret harbour and not familiar with the local ramps. Im not after your gps marks or spots but am chasing some local knowledge and fisherman to fisherman friendly tips and tricks to catch some fish. I am very greatful for all advice and will be doing a report saturday afternoon.
Thank you in advance
Tim

extra heavy surf rods
Submitted by Callum24 on Thu, 2014-08-14 16:12Looking at getting another surf rod i already have bout 10 but looking to get a beast for chucking big leads and bait or slidbaiting with 10oz plus sinkers i have 2 ten footers that are capable of this wieght but, looking for something a bit longer to use off the stones and out cast everyone on the beach on the ruff days.
I've looked a lot on google and south africans seem to have it sussed is it worth ordering from there also kilwell blanks come up a lot so is it worth getting one custom made? Any brands or websites i can check out?
I'd prefer it to suit an egg beater or alvey but am starting to see that over heads are getting used alot but that opens up another can of worms for me with castsing and maging of reels ectk, so would rather stick to the firt 2 for now
i'm happy to spend the dollars on this one cause it will be pushed to its absoult limits!

Well finally its on. Friday is looking good for a fish out off Mandurah/Rocko.
So is anyone getting decent fish. Has anyone been catching squid around the traps??
This weekend is looking good for a fish so I look forward to the posts from the y'all

Best spot to jump on a charter
Submitted by gg1512 on Wed, 2014-08-13 07:52Hey all,
Me and my girlfriend are putting in the hard yards and driving Sydney to Monkey Mia via Melb, Adelaide and Perth in Jan next year. I'd be jumping on charters everywhere along the drive if I could but time and money have other things to say. Seems like you guys over there have all the quality fish and the quality spots so WA it is. I'm just wondering if anyone can help out on where abouts the best area would be to hit up a charter? We'll be driving the whole coast from Esperance up, so anywhere south of Denham is on the cards really. Would love to squeeze in a few days landbased here and there as well so if anyone can reccomend some areas that'd be tops too. Will be using my light breaming gear I use over here plus carrying my sensor for the occasional beach.
Thanks all for your help,
George

Gopro experts? The latest units?
Submitted by pale ale on Wed, 2014-08-13 07:46Hey guys, After watching Walkdady's videos I have decided to break into the 21st century and buy a gopro.
This appears to be the latest, greatest I could find on ebay
Does anyone know if I can get a better price in Perth? I am in Karratha.
Also, what else will I need? High speed SD card? Which is best and what GByte.
Is there likely to be a new model gopro coming out in the near future, I can wait if there will be a better version soon.
thanks for any info

Surf reel
Submitted by lachieH on Tue, 2014-08-12 18:19Hi everyone. I have got 2 beach rods now but I want to finish off my collection with another combo. I have worked out that I'm going to get the new Assassin Amia H 9ft version. This will be for throwing lures for tailor salmon etc. But I havnt worked what reel I'm going to get. My budget is going to be $350 all up for rod and reel. The rod will coast about $240 I think because that's what the 11ft version costs. I was looking at the Daiwa Aird 5500 for $99. Is that a good reel for about $100?

Land Based Fish/Feed This time of year?
Submitted by DunkerT on Tue, 2014-08-12 16:18Hey All,
I've managed to score the week off work (
) and would like to get out for a fish. I'm hoping to get something for a feed (whiting, Flatties, Squid, etc.). Given the weather I'm not looking to take the boat out until Friday (but Friday does look good!).
Could anyone give me some ideas as to where and how I could catch a feed? I live in Applecross so the closer to home the better but am willing to drive as far as Woodies (I've heard that there's still squid coming in down there, I caught a few off the boat around parmelia bank a few weeks back). I've also got a yak that I can take out if the weather permits.
Thanks all!

Bull creek wetlands
Submitted by lachieH on Tue, 2014-08-12 15:58Look I know this is a long shot and probably a dumb question but is there anything to catch at the wetlands? Usually in the winter it is running like a river and is connected to the swan. So is there a slight possibility of bream in there? If anyone has seen anything or caught anything in there please say so. Also I am not sure if it is salt water or freshwater but I think it is freshwater. Also would it be allowed or worth it to put trout fingerlings in the wider parts of the creek?

old farts at exxy wrap up
Submitted by uncle on Mon, 2014-08-11 16:00the first arfo was as good as it got, 2 macks,2 wahoo and back before low tide, it was very hard for us to find good fish from then on, sharks were a real pain even worse when they started to eat rapalas, the boys hooked one each on following days and all I heard were groans and I can't handle it, so I had to jump in and take over but I managed to get them up eventually, hard work.
We ended up with only 6 macks and 4 very nice wahoo plus a few tuna YFT and others, all bottomies were small, lost a small black at the boat, took a rapala deep diver, never jumped, just at the side of the boat and bent the hooks out, bugger. biggest drama was last week when I was heading out deep for a beakie troll, I was running thru my mind if we broke down and I couldn't remember the safety gear, we had a check and it wasn't to be found, well we went back asap, a phone call to BJ and carnarvonite and deepwater delivered one to us at yardie creek, [power of fishwrecked] and pies supporters.
Disappeared?? lost?? who knows, returned the borrowed one on the way home, then 4 days of really strong winds, managed to troll for about 90 mins. before it got too strong, no fish, fished the last 2 days up before the sun but very poor, lots of boats trolling and wasting fuel, only saw rubies caught out wide, photos are not in order, it was nice to get away for 2 weeks and enjoy some sun, not sure if I would return to exxy, certainly not as I remember it, unless you go ruby fishing or trolling for marlin etc
