Alvey Turbocast - what exactly is it?
Submitted by Diesel80 on Thu, 2014-05-01 09:02Hi,
Looking for a new alvey to suit a 12-13ft rod. I have a 650BCVRR at the moment. I like it, the first Alvey I have owned.
Looking at another, minus the RR handle. Noticed a feature called Turbocast i can add to any 650 reel.
Read the description of it on the Alvey website, but farked if I can work out in my head how it works.
Says I hold the lever for casting? I currently thumb the line down onto the back of the spool. Not really sure how this T/C is supposed to work.
Can anyone shed some light?
Cheers,
D80

More rain on the way for Exmouth
Submitted by wrasse magnet on Thu, 2014-05-01 01:31Weather models indicating more heavy rain on the cards for Exmouth Sunday and Monday, here's the latest model run, colours show 24hr rainfall to 9am Monday morning:

From the weather bureau:
The weather bureau is warning residents to be prepared with a possible low developing off the coast, which could see more heavy rain dumped this weekend.
Senior forecaster Matt Boterhoven said there could be more significant rainfalls.
"At this stage it's still a few days away so a little uncertain," he said.
"It'll start on Sunday but the heavier stuff will be during Monday. The timing could vary, it could push it all back to Monday or it could speed it up a little.
"If the current guidance holds to be true, we could see some significant rainfall figures there on Monday."
Not looking good so soon after the flood!
Taking my daughter up there in July to get our diving tickets, getting nervous about what the reef will be like given all the sediment that's getting washed out to sea with these rains.

1 spot available with Peak Sportfishing on the 7th or 8th (maybe).
Submitted by fats212 on Wed, 2014-04-30 21:33I have a charter booked with three others on Peak (in Exmouth) on the 5th, but unfortunately it looks like being blown out. Eddy has availability on the 7th and 8th if we want to re-schedule but one of the other customers is out of town on those dates.
So, if we end up re-scheduling, which looks quite likely, I am hoping someone is keen to join us.
The plan is to focus on bottom bouncing and jigging for Reds, Rankin, perhaps Trout, that sort of thing, then, depending on how that goes perhaps having a crack at some Mackies on the troll (I would personally love to get one on a stickbait if the oportunity arises). Even dropping for Rubies isnt out of the question, but I am not sure if its likely. This obviously all depends on the weather so nothing is set in stone.
Although its a long way out, the weather on those dates is looking pretty good and the price is $350.
So, if you are travelling up here at the time, and are keen to get out with Eddy (regarded by many as the best operator up here) for the day, please let me know. Locals are obviously welcome too.
Cheers,
Anthony

Salmon beaches
Submitted by lachieH on Tue, 2014-04-29 18:35Any beaches that do not need 4WD around Mandurah that I will find salmon at. Will be live baiting mostly but also some lures following the schools up and down the beach (if they're there). It would. Be great if there is a couple of herring around aswell.
Has anybody caught salmon off Peppermint Grove Beach? Might just use some 40-70g twistys off there. I know that this isn't that close to Mandurah but just wanted to know.
As some know, I am new to surf fishing so some good info would be appreciated.

Shark bay April
Submitted by Rob b on Tue, 2014-04-29 06:54Well not too much to report, weather wasn't really on our side but we got out a couple of days (denham side ) and got a feed.
one thing I found is those plastic baits pull more a variety up when plagued by little pinkies. The old man using bait and me using plastics, the bait was gone before the bail was over but the plastic wasn't touched as much but when was it was slammed. Z mans I found the best. The gulps never lasted long but I found the mulloway loved the z mans most, I pulled up at least 20 40 to 60 cm ones then the old man got the bigger one.
All in all love it up shark bay and I will be saving for the next one.
