need a trimmer
Submitted by petermac on Wed, 2013-08-21 19:25I have a humminbird sounder they fit into a cradle that has lots of copper points, as some times I leave the boat on the front lawn I thought I better get a cover made up so the cradle dosent fill up with water (have it covered up with placky bags at the moment) I went to a local trimmer in rocky and he just said Nah to busy to do a little job like that try my opposition up the road , so I did went and saw him and he said ok I will do it I ring you Saturday so you can pick it up , no phone call so went down to his shop and it was all closed up. This brings me to my question are there any trimmers out there that will do a small job that any one knows of??
Took the "Ball n Chain" out fishing today
Submitted by outdoinit on Wed, 2013-08-21 19:13Well it was decided last night that we would hit the water and get some fish back in the Freezer..
We left the marina about 7:30 to a little honey hole just out the back of the reef.
So below is the result of 3 drifts.
First drift seen a double head Dhuie and Black Ass and another bigger Black Ass
Second drift another Dhuie.
Third drift a Baldie..
didn't do a fourth as we had enough to last us a couple weeks so we headed back to have a go for some squid, but didn't get any.
Ps: for anyone thinking we were over our limit, our 4 year old grandie was along for the trip..

selling stuff
Submitted by EL SYD on Wed, 2013-08-21 17:43I have a lot of lures and rods some used some not, a lot of hard to get stuff at short notice,
my question is what do buyers think of bank transfer deposits as method of payment to me, and me being busy getting goods sent off at the end of my working week by Australia post,
I am new to this as I myself only deal with shops that do bank transfers, so I am used to parting with money first then waiting for my funds to clear in their account, then wait for them to send me product,
what do members of fishwrecked think?
cheers syd

Sundays in close fish
Submitted by dant on Wed, 2013-08-21 10:12Gday All,
Small report for a sunday fish in close, so with my usual deckie not able to make it i decided to take a couple of mates pretty new to fishing out - tried to hit up some early morning pinkies but no joy this time, i think we hooked a decent one early but bricked my mate on some reef, tried for about 20 mins to get him out but no go. Plenty of other fish to keep the boys happy and busy for the day. think ive got them both hooked now. couple of photos below from a mixed bag. 4 sharks - 2 monster eagle rays, couple of sambos, Striped Tuna which was a great little fight and a suprise Dhuie (55cm) and Black ass in about 15 metres of water - so the boys had fish for the week.
Lost a few others on straightened hooks - thats happened a couple of times now so off to upgrade my gang inventory.

and cant forget how good the day was weather wise

cheers all Dan

Fuel Sensor HELP PLEASE
Submitted by reef runner on Wed, 2013-08-21 09:33G'day Guys,
I have a mercury Verado 175hp and am having some issues with the fuel readings, I have a 220ltr tank and at the servo fuel up until its full, even full enough to drip out the breather.
Issue is the electronic Fuel Gauge only says it's roughly 100-130 ltrs, I have checked the breather and all is sweet there and checked all connections to the fuel sensor and they look fine,
What else could it be???
Cheers

Recfishwest Videos and Youtube Channel
Submitted by MPM on Tue, 2013-08-20 20:39Hi all,
My name is Phil Jagger and this is my first post on the forums here at Fishwrecked.
I contacted Adam last week to see if it would be ok to post up some videos and a link to Recfishwest's Youtube channel which I have been contracted for two years to make content for.
As most would probably know, Recfishwest is W.A's peak body on all things rec fishing and they do a great job to help out with restocking programmes, fishing clinics for the young ones plus heaps more on the political side of things which you can check out here.
Last year they decided to make Youtube channel made by anglers for anglers with content varying from how to's, rules and regs plus a mini doco series called "Fish Tales" which document a day or two in the lives of a W.A angler as they go about their business of loving fishing.
Some of videos have been up for a while and now, with hard drives full content, they will be put up at more regular, one to two, week intervals.
Anways, enough of the words and more of the videos.
If you have any questions, or think you may like to feature in an episode for "Fish Tales" please let me know here and we can talk some more.
Click here for the first in the series of Fish Tales, plus a link to the Recfishwest Youtube home page is here.
(I tried to embed the viewer here but was not allowed, if anyone knows how please let me know!)
Thanks heaps to Adam and all here.
Phil

But for some reason I can't seem to catch any size snapper the rigs im using is a paternoster with snelled 5o's and floater baits out back. If anyone can help with tips on what I'm doing right or wrong it would be much appreciated thanks (bait is mulies and squid and just started experimenting with plastic)

Spinning rod for Quobba
Submitted by TorquenFish on Tue, 2013-08-20 09:22Hi all,
Just wanting a little advice on purchasing a new spinning rod for rock fishing for mackies and the like a Quobba?
Tossing up between these two;
Penn Prevail 9' 12-20lb (mono) cast weight 85g rod , or
Pen Prevail 10'' 15-30lb (mono) cast weight 130g rod
Will be casting 70-80g metals and white lead head jigs. My question I guess is, will the benefit of 12-20lb lighter rod be better for casting all day than the heaver rod outweigh the loss in line weight capacity?
Will be using 50lb braid on either rod on with a Penn 7500 or Penn 8500 real to match.
Cheers,
Jesse.

Whales jumping
Submitted by choc on Tue, 2013-08-20 05:43Hi guys
Went out yesterday afternoon chsasing some pinks.Arrived at my spot and just about to drop anchor when I see a huge shape come out of the water about 50m away.
A whale was jumping clean out of the water, it did this three times.Scared the crap out of me.
With it being so close I didnt really know if I should just watch or move away in case it came closer, I only have a 4.2m runabout.
They ended up staying around for about two hours just coming to the surface every now and then, splashing their tails.
No bloody snapper though.

What's your hit rate for targeting Cockburn sound Snapper
Submitted by Jason P on Mon, 2013-08-19 18:58I know it's called fishing and not catching, but so far my hit rate for targeting the elusive Cockburn sound Snapper is a dismal 0%.
Just wondering if I'm in the same boat as most others with no or little success? (sorry for the pun)
Maybe this would be good for a poll?

Jurien Bay
Submitted by Hutch on Mon, 2013-08-19 18:20Hey Guys,
I'm heading up to Jurien Bay this weekend. I have searched the forums and other websites and have found a lot of information, but not many recent reports. I have been a few times, so I know most of the spots etc but was just wondering if much has been happening there recently. Anything been caught off the jetty, in the bay, harbour, or off any of the beaches? Although I will be limited to landbased or possibly inshore as we might take the kayaks, any reports will be readily accepted and greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Shimano or Daiwa
Submitted by EricBananaMan on Mon, 2013-08-19 17:48Gday people. Just signed up and I am chasing some opinions/recommendations. I have my eye on a Black Hole Magic Eye Torque pe2 rod but cant decide whether to go Shimano or Daiwa spin reel. A few people I have spoken to use Stella 4000 or 5000 reels. A little bit over my budget after the rod price. I have always used shimano gear but a few mates swear by Daiwa. Can anyone recommend suitable reels in both brands under Stella prices? I am in negotiations with the minister for finance so a Stella or Daiwa equivalent still could be on the cards. Cheers for your time peoples..

Good luck to bad luck
Submitted by Guardy on Mon, 2013-08-19 17:48On the 2/8/13 I achieved my PB for snapper (83cm) and came back onshore a very happy camper.
Started cleaning down the boat and while doing so popped the polymer that was acting as my cartilage from a previous partial knee replacement. The polymer ended about 5cm up my thigh. Very painful as I finished cleaning up. Went into Freo emergency Sat morning and was told to come back in a weeks time for a review with the orthopedic surgeons. At the review was told what had happened, as I had no idea, and that I needed immediate surgery. Straight into a hospital bed that morning.
Found out that as I had my initial replacement done in Scotland 3years previously they could no longer get the parts so I would need a full replacement using local parts. So here I am lying in bed looking at the weather and checking the site getting pissed off and jealous as hell while you lucky buggers are posting photos of the fish you have just caught. Bugger!!
Won't be able to get back out there for at least two months. And, to top it off I was told just prior to my last fishing trip I was being laid off at the end of August after 16 1/2 years. Double Bugger!!
Them's the breaks I guess.

Chronarch 2013
Submitted by Vinesh87 on Mon, 2013-08-19 17:10Finally my Chronarch arrived!
The big question is what rod.
Its for lure flicking for barra and jacks. Needs to be light enough to flick 10-25gm lures but enough back bone to stop a Barra. Will be running 20lb Sunline. Was going to run 12 but its to thin in sunline!
The Few rods i am looking at are:
Territory Deluxe 6kg
Samurai 351
Gloomis CBR 723
T-Curve tournament 3-7kg
Any other suggestions that may fit the bill ?
Cheers,
Vinnie
