COCKBURN SNAPPER & THE BIG BLACK BOAT
Submitted by Noddy on Sun, 2012-09-16 23:09
Oh the memories of the days out on THE BIG BLACK BOAT and the moments of pure pink ecstasy
between the long periods curled up on the couch watching Pirates Of The Carribean...
KILLING SNAPPER IN STYLE... EVEN MAKING IT LOOK EASY....
ARE JUST MEMORIES..... THE BIG BLACK BOAT is gone.... SOLD.....
- SO THIS YEAR THERE ARE NO PIRATES TO SHOW YOU WHERE THE FISH ARE YOU'LL HAVE TO FIND THEM YOURSELF -
AND to prove you don't need a BIG BLACK BOAT with all the fruit, this year we're fishing out a tinny with NO GPS OR SOUNDER...
Fishing old school ways, landmarks, local knowledge, and tasting the water for fish piss. . .
WE'RE STILL KILLING SNAPPER.... AND STILL MAKING IT LOOK EASY.....
No beds, no dvds, no galley, no shade, NO PROBLEMS....
Killing fish is what we do and we'll do it blindfolded with a sharp stick if we have to... ( and still make it look good )
WE'LL SEE YOU OUT THERE.... WILL YOU EVEN NOTICE US..? ? ?

Cockburn Sound
Submitted by joycey on Sun, 2012-09-16 21:37Hi guys,
Relatively new boatie, so far fished the Sound in calm conditions only ( no wind ).
Just wondering what conditions you can fish in the Sound and still be comfortable, wind etc.
Hoping to head out next Saturday in Sound and forecast for 13knot SW wind with a swell 5.5 m ( is swell in issue in the Sound or is it protected by the islands? )
Cheers

KGW Seasonal?
Submitted by Browndog on Sun, 2012-09-16 20:16Hey guys, anybody know if KGW are seasonal? I have a nice local spot at Point Peron in 2m of water that never fails to produce a feed (no horses, but usually a quick and easy half dozen 30-35cm) over summer. I've fished the same spot several times over winter, and had no luck at all.
Just got me to wondering if they had a seasonal migration or something, looking at the photos of 50cm KG on here lately I wouldn't mind knowing where they go!
Cheers, Browndog.

Submitted by Torzar on Sun, 2012-09-16 19:21Hey guys, looking around for a rod for use of the beach and occasionally the rocks. I want something that i can use for baiting mulloway in the surf and snapper off the rocks, but can also be used for throwing poppers and sliders up north when i get the chance. It will be paired with a Stradic Fj6000 of FJ8000, with either 30lb or 40lb power pro braid. Any info and opinions are much appreciated ! cheers

Submitted by PT on Sun, 2012-09-16 11:16Hey guys, I've just bought myself a Pflueger President 6935 (3500 size reel) and im wondering what to pair it with.
I was thinking a Pflueger Trion since theyre on special at bcf atm for 99 bucks but since im pretty new to all this stuff i dont know which one to buy. (like what length or weight rating etc)
The come in 1-3kg 2-4kg and 3-6kg class, one and 2 peices 6ft6 or 7ft
I want to be able to throw around super light soft plastics with 1/16oz jigheads for bream in the river and also be able to bring in bigger flatties and whatever i can drag out of the ocean.
So yea, whatever thoughts you have would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Rod advice
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Sun, 2012-09-16 08:02So after snapping two 16ft sensor surf rods I declined the offer from daiwa to replace it for a third time, got a store credit, and it leaves me wondering what I should replace it with. I'm after a rod that can cast 4 - 8 oz, between 12 - 14 ft and minimum 2 piece. Will be used for lobbing baits and possibly sending a balloon out. Any help would be appreciated.

Tuna ID
Submitted by silly on Sat, 2012-09-15 21:18Got out for an inshore fish this morn and a school of tuna started feeding within 50m or so from the boat. Wacked on a metal and managed to land one. Initially thought was SBT (time of year & it had the white lines on the belly. got it home and filleted it. The flesh was alot more red/pink than I remember them being. So what are your thoughts? Southern blue or a very lost longtail?
Cheers
Ps. Also got a 5 kg stripey on the troll.

Out wide today
Submitted by Knot Big Enuff on Sat, 2012-09-15 20:58Hey all,
Early start out wide today - awesome day offshore, before it blew 15-18knots (~1pm), but wasn't an issue being pushed back by the SW'ly
These GB Cods gave a descent fight, and didn't blow there guts out untile almost on the surface, so faught almost all the way!! Came from 200m, but probably had 280-300m of line out.
Overall, was a nice day out
Thanks
P.S. cheers Dave Xtreme Coolers - good warm up for the Vac Mach, no issues what so ever
.... fillets are only of the fish on the top photo, fat buggers

Bremer Bay Fishing Charters????
Submitted by Bungel on Sat, 2012-09-15 20:49Heading down there later this month for the second time. I do mostly LBG, but the missus cant do any of the hardcore walk-ins. So..... would like to get out on a boat for a days fishing with her.
Anyone know of Charter Operators down those ways, i dont mind a bit of drive to another close town if that is needed. The only mention of charter fishing i can find refers to Bremer Bay Resort.
Cheers,
George.

Can anyone recommend a good spraypainter? I would be happy to prep it.
What type of paint is the most durable and best suited to this type of application?

Do the drive or not?
Submitted by aalfred on Sat, 2012-09-15 16:02Hi Crew,
After another disappointing day on the ffb and in the sound I thought I ask the question is it for the ppl living in the northern suburbs worth driving down there?
I have towed my boat now six or seven times down there (and I live about 5 min from the Hillarys ramp) to try new grounds on the ffb and to fish for Snapper in the sound. I tried all different sorts like driftbaiting, bottoms , livies , anchored, drifting , trolling, days and nights and every bait you can think of and all I got is 1 barely sized Dhu and a couple of KG's and Blackarse. And of course I spent hours on sounding around. I also noticed there are many more boats around there and the fishing pressure on the ffb must be huge. The sound is ridiculously busy. And with all the boats fishing there, there must be one or two which clean up. But in general I havent noticed any boat around there where I was, catching anything decent. And in the sound you can pretty much read the speedo from the boat next to you, so close they get. And if I drive all the way over to Rotto I dont need to do that from there I can get there from the northern ramps just as fast.
And if I fish from out of Hillarys I find it easier to find promising ground and my catches always been better from up here. So for me its not worth anymore to go down that way and spent an hour of my fishing time driving to get there and the all the extra fuel (from the towing vehicle).
Are any Guys on here who drive down there regular from the northern suburbs?
And I know if you spent lots of time there you will catch something!
And for ppl who live there and fish always from there and know the area very well it is easier to find good ground and catch regular. I am not saying it is a shit area!
All I am saying is it really worth for me driving that way or should I rather try to find more ground around my area?
Cheers Seb

Squid wings
Submitted by tim-o on Sat, 2012-09-15 13:19I use the heads/tentacles as bait, but are the wings still a good bait? A strip would sit nice on 2 snelled hooks, driftn down the burley trail. Never tried the wings, always drift a mulie or other fish bait on snells and squid head/tentacles on a paternosta.

Killer (Whale) Day off Cape Nat
Submitted by Seaquest on Sat, 2012-09-15 12:51Had a great day fishing on Thursday. Caught some good fish and came accross a pod of Killer whales. It was an awesome site seeing these guys, one I'll never forget.
The day started jigging up a few sambos. they weren't the biggest but were great fun.

After an hour or so of the sambos we decided to go and find some dhuies. Took a while to find them but when we did they were on in a big way.
First drop and I managed a good dhuie on a shout lightning jig and Dave got an unersized one that was tagged and released.

Next drop I hooked something on the way down. Dave also hooked up moments later. My fish wouldn't come off the bottom and I knew I was on to a monster. After a few minutes Dave had boated another good dhuie which was caught on a yambal jig.

I ended up getting bricked which was dissapointing because it felt like a cracker of a dhuie. After bagging out we decided to leave them and go back and jig some more sambos.
As we were heading off Dave noticed a few whales heading our way. As they got closer we realised they weren't just any old whale but they were killer whales. A pod of five came right up to us and checked us out.
After a few minutes they started making their way north and we got going and followed them. We did about 4kms roughly doing 10knots, during this time they happly kept very close to us. At times were just metres from the boat.

These guys were awesome and we were very lucky to see them. Probably could have followed them for a lot longer but it was getting late, so we left them on their way.
On the way home I stopped at one of my sambo spots. Hooked up straight away but to my surprise up came a dhuie. Sent him back and then headed in.

Submitted by buschy on Fri, 2012-09-14 23:11Anyone here purchases prescription Spotters recently?
Got hit up with a quote for $800 - and after speaking directly to Spotters they were able to get someone to take the quote @ $595. I still reckon it's a bit steep....but will cop it, 'cos I want em!

sharks and sounders exmouth
Submitted by meglodon on Fri, 2012-09-14 22:44a good friend of mine has just come back from exmouth and related the following to me. he was having a lot of trouble at exmouth with the sharks making landing decent fish a real challange and a dam hard experiance, when out one day tring to get a feed of red emperor he accidently had turned his sounder off he caught a few fish with no problems from the shark brigade. next day out to the same place sounder on whilst fishing sharks ate every thing he hooked. so he turned the sounder off drifted away from the spot a bit then caught fish with no probs from sharks. turned the sounder on sharks came back in about 20 min and back to eating every thing hooked. his thoughts are that the sharks are associating a free and easy meal with the sounder pinging. just a thought anyone else had any similiar experiances.

Was Ohhhhh! POOP!!!, now kama...
Submitted by randall df223 on Fri, 2012-09-14 21:53Freo went down fighting until the end. Was the season successful? No. Has there been improvement? Yes. Is the future bright? Yes. Was the recruitment of Ross Lyon by Fremantle a good thing? Very much so. Good luck to the remaining five teams for this year and bring on 2013!
wet toast wiggles also went down fighting.... against a team they smashed only recently, and after playing a soft opposition at home in week one of the finals. reality is the wiggles couoldn't win an away final this year. Freo has improved this year, but not enough, and we will be better next year. wiggles went backwards.... bring on 2013 and lets see what it brings. my wish is for two "SMASHING" western derbies that Freo will win both by a combined total of two points, Freo for the flag, and Fyfe for the Brownlow!
