Tiagra 30WLSRA versus ???
Submitted by bsir on Wed, 2011-04-27 12:16I'm looking at updagrading with a new reel.
I currently have a TLD15, 25 and Tiagra 16. All spooled with Braid (10kg and 2 x 15kg).
I want to setup a decent trolling outfut and was thinking about a tiagra 30WLSRA, rigged with 24kg.
This is pretty expensive, so will probaby team it wup with 24kg backbone t-curve (cheaper than the Shimano tiagra rod).
Plan is to use this for trolling the FADs and exmouth.
Any tips for whether to use braid, mono or braid with a mono topshot?
Is it worth spending the extra $$ on a Tiagra, or should I save a bit of coin and just go for a TLD30 or similar?

(except grey banded rock cod)
Breaksea – 300 mm
Just copied off fisheries we site updated in march 2011 does this mean we can take gb over 1m now ?

Squidding Last night. Pics
Submitted by danno on Tue, 2011-04-26 22:40Hey all.
With a sort of busy day i was laying on the couch and was board as so my mate walks over and says you wanna got for a fish? hell yer.
Got my squidding gear organised and though might as well tie the knots down there and get on the road as fast as. Got to woodies and started tieing the knot but it wouldnt work so i was getting quite annoyed. Finaly got the knot right put on a 3.0 yamashita glow white squid jig and got to a spot where we were going to hang for a while. I said to my mate how funny would it be if i got a squid first cast and make that three squidding session in a row, forth twitch bang on i was like mate im on he didnt believe me untill it was spraying ink in the air haha go me.
Had a few flicks around and moved up and down the rock wall every couple of casts. Got a cuttlie and a squid then went back to the spot where my mate was and asked if he got any herring he said no so i had a cast and bang got a squid then cast out again and got another squid. My mate snagged and chucked in the towel. A strom then started making its way in so he bailed to the car while i kept squidding. I got another couple on my Yamashita Naory 2.2 runge hunter.
I ended up with 7 squid not huge but big enough to eat and a cuttle fish so not bad for a 2 and a half hour flick. I have some photos but my good computer died on me so im stuck with the crap one so cant upload pics but i will be able to at my dads tomorrow night. Just ate all the squid and it was YUMMY!!! Ill never get sick of squid mmmm.
Cheers Danno.
Little cuttle fish.

First dhu
Submitted by fords_rule85 on Mon, 2011-04-25 22:59Hey guys,
Thought i would put up a post on how we went today out from woodies point. Firstly i would like to thank the guys who replied to my post on sounder pics i put up recently, your comments and advice proved priceless today. We headed out from woodies point boat ramp at 6am and headed for a mark in the 40's that i had marked a couple of days prior but had not much luck on. On the way out to our waypoint i came across some interesting groung in 35m of water so decided to stop and have a few drifts, on the first couple of drifts we picked up a couple of undersize black arse which went back to fight another day. A few drifts later my deckie picked up this nice queen snapper

After a pic we also sent this back hoping to uprgrade to maybe a pinkie or dhufish ( fingers crossed ). Reset the drift and dropped the lines once again and BANG my deckie was on again! This time we were pleased to see not a huge but definatelty a size dhufish! The first dhufish we have caught so pretty stoked to say the least, It went 57cm and after a quick pic it was given the lights out treatment then into the icebox for dinner tonight.

After this things went quiet, so we continued out to our original destination but had bugger all luck. Thats when the call was made to head back into the sound and have a quick squidding session, after picking up 6 nice size squid it was off home to clean up and cook our much awaited dhufish

What a great way to end the day, fresh dhufish, chips, coleslaw and some gentlmans jacks to wash it all down! Thanks again for all the help guys, hopefully the fishing gets better from here on in.

Busso jetty height?
Submitted by danno on Mon, 2011-04-25 21:00Hey all.
I was just wondering if anyone knows the exact height of the busso jetty or knows where i can find the height of it? I would like to know the height from the water to the concrete but also the height from the water to the rails?
I forgot to measure it when i was down there the other day. If no one knows the height could some one that lives down there please measure it for me with a tape measure? Im willing to pay 10 bucks for the first person to have the exact height.
Cheers Danno

Submitted by marble on Mon, 2011-04-25 09:30We ended up with a nice red bass on the weekend and are wondering if they are much of a ciguatera risk . He was caught out from Exmouth. Have eaten Chinamen from around the same area with no problems so hoping the Bass will be ok.

Also any suggestions on rods as i have no clue what tpye of rod to use for soft plastics ? not anything to expensive , good quality but not over priced. Any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

whats biting LB?
Submitted by spanishmackeral on Sun, 2011-04-24 18:06hey guys,
sorry to put up another "need help post", but weve got our 11 year old cousin over from sydney, and after we bought him a cheap k-mart combo over as a present a couple of years ago, hes had a ball catching all types of small fish off the beach.
Me and dad are gonna take him out for a fish tomorrow after the dawn service, but being informed by his mum that she dosent want him on a boat, where stumped on a good land based spot we can take him, as anytime weve got time to fish, its usually outa the tub.
I dont mind what were catching (as long as it isnt blowies) and can go anywhere from 2 rocks to down around rockingham.
any advise would be awsome,
cheers rob
