Baron Sportsman info
Submitted by iana on Sun, 2010-07-18 06:50I am looking at making up a fiberglass battery box to fit into this space in the floor. Can anyone out there tell me whether this shoulder in the bilge is structural, or have any importance to the integity of the hull. I think its where the front engine mounts for an inboard were attached. Can it be cut away?
The area is aft of the fuel section, between that section and the transom. Any picutures or info would be appreciated.

rocket launchers
Submitted by Adonis on Fri, 2010-07-16 12:33Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows where to get those self fit rocket launchers from? I know they don't look the best but i need to get the canopy retrimmed anyway so I was thinking of getting it incorporated into the rocket launcher, would probably look a lot better. I would get some made but i'll be getting a new boat next year.
Cheers!

Fuel use, new 100hp yammy 4 stroke
Submitted by Justin Poole on Thu, 2010-07-15 07:47I am just upgrading the engine on my 670UB Banana Boat to a fuel injected 100hp 4 stroke, from a 90 yam 2 stroke.
The dealers say I will get 30 to 50% savings on the fuel by comparisson.
My mate shomby has the same boat and engine only his is a carby model, his rule of thumb with the fuel is when doing 20 knots its 20 litres per hour, 30 knots 30 litres per hour. Will there be much difference with the fuel injection to the carby model?
Has anyone got the same set up? what prop size are you runnning, Chivers marine say the standard prop works well, an opinion from another owner would be good.
The model I am gettingfitted is 06 it has not got the nema 2000 so cannot hook it up the my HDS 7 so am fitting a Lowrance fuel flow sesor and memory modual, Luke chivers has set up boats with this system before so I will be able to program tank size, and get all the data up on the screen, how much I am using, how much fuel is left in tank etc, great for monebello abrollos murian trips. With the old 2 smoke long trips were scary.
The stainless fuel tank that came with the boat cracked once, this has now been welded up and is sound. although for piece of mind was wondering if fibre glassing around suspect seams in the tank would be sufficient reinforcing. the last thig i want on one of the above trips is the tank splitting on me - fire, tow back to port, death, come to mind, haha.
all opinions and comments appreciated
thanks

Fitting out a glass boat - Who can I use?
Submitted by DazSamFishing on Sun, 2010-07-04 19:49Not long before a boat ends up in our drive way.
I'll need to get a few things done. Just wondering if anyone can recommend a company out there that can fit a plotter, VHF, another battery & isolator etc.
Holes will need to be cut out for some items & I want to be confident that the job will be done in a professional manner.
Appreciate some input.

Lowrance HDS Plotter
Submitted by Tandawg on Thu, 2010-06-24 21:10Hi all, I`m upgrading to another GPS plotter and for my price, the available ones are:
1. Lowrance HDS 5m
2. Lowrance Elite 5m
3. Garmin 551
All are $850
I think 1 and 2 are similar, if not the same. Garmin has preloaded map in it, and I think the lowrance may have. Lowrance have a greater pixel count @480.
Any one out there who can give me the heads up would be great.
Thank you
Chris

Operating bilge blowers
Submitted by Muppet on Wed, 2010-06-23 11:20Guys, in need of some advice regarding bilge blower on my sterndrive. (tried a search but didnt get much)
The engine is a merc 350 MPI Horizon. I have been running the bilge blower whenever the boat is in use. a couple of minutes before it is started and then throughout operation.
I have since been told that I dont need to run it after the motor has been started. I am always cautious regarding the build up of fumes etc in the engine bay so, whats your thoughts.
Cheers
Kev.

Polycraft boats? any info?
Submitted by scano on Mon, 2010-06-21 21:11Hi all,
Been thinking about upgrading the tinnie for a while now and the wife is starting to warm to the idea. Hadn't contemplated buying one much before but I saw a nice Polycraft down south not long ago. Have done a bit of looking around on the net and something that matches the description below would be up my alley.
spend up to $15,000
length = approx 4.5m or so
type = centre console
For that sort of money should be able to buy something about 5 years old with a 4 stoke engine. Just wondering if anyone on here has a Polycraft themselves or been out on one from time to time? If so any info you could share would be great.
Always good to get the opinions of others prior to going to do some serious shopping!
many thanks for any info provided

A Big thanks to Dinghy world and HONDA
Submitted by mako magic on Sat, 2010-06-19 13:21As a few people were aware i had some issues with my engine the 2nd last day in Exmouth.
Came back and sussed a few things out and realised it might have been a gearbox issue, so after speaking to the guys from men on boats with some advice and help, we worked out that the engine was still under warranty as they changed the warranty over from 3 to 5 years 6 months before this particular engine was purchased.
Phew what a relief..............so put onto John at Dinghy world and recieved top service, every promised phone call was made, all the follow up calls etc and time frames were kept.
Once we sussed out a tooth on the forward gear they were in immediate contact with honda who said yeah no issues we will fix it, but instead or repairing the gears etc just replaced the whole gear box with a BRAND NEW one, and upgraded from the original one in the boat.
No issues at all and 110% satisfied with Dinghy World and especially Honda for coming to the party big time with this.
Was apparently around 7 grand worth or repair done on the engine.
So if anyone was thinking about a new engine, they have a great warranty and aftercare.
Personally when im in the market for another engine i will be buying Honda again.

Trailer Chains
Submitted by mako magic on Sat, 2010-06-19 13:09Spoke to somebody today who said crossing your trailer chains was illegal and he knew someone who was fined.
I personally thought it was the other way and always cross them.
What do others do?

Should I get inflatable boat?
Submitted by Likc on Fri, 2010-06-18 10:53Hi all.
I was just wondering what your general thoughts on those inflatable boats are? I would like to get on the water but I am not rich enough to get a dinghy and mainly don’t have room to store it. So I thought that something like the one on the picture might get me little bit off shore (like Cockburn sound, Lancelin bay and similar calm places). Is it a good idea with a little outboard or will it sink straight away? :) Has anyone had one of these?

I've recently been given a boat by my old man.
He doesn't use it and I'm moving to the coast so he has given me his.
The only name/make I can see on it is Delta.......does anyone know anything about them? Where they were made....are they still making boats?
Any info good or bad would be appreciated.
