Sambo Jigging
Submitted by collie on Tue, 2009-05-12 10:48Hey guys,
would anyone please please be willing to point me in the right direction to go sambo jigging. i did it on a charter once and had a ball but just dont know where to go to find sambo schools around perth. would prob travel upto 5km off rotto but have no spots. anyting i catch i will release with release weights so if anyone has any spots or advice to find schools that would be awesome. can pm me if you like. i guess my main problem is im not fantastic at working my sounder so i cant pick up anything when im travelling at a decent speed. that makes finding fish a long and hard process.
thanks alot
mark.

Jigging rigging
Submitted by hlokk on Tue, 2009-03-03 22:00A few people asked how to rig the double loop assist hook, and as its much easier showing than explaining, I thought I'd post it here.
This is not the only way to do it, or necessarily the best way, just the way I do it. I like it as its strong enough and compact and easy to orientate hooks. However, you need the right hooks (I use owner SJ41 3/0's as they have a large welded eye). Kasey has a very helpful guide for solid assist cord here (which is better if you have solid cord and/or non-welded eye hooks)
I'm using #25 YGK kevlar/dyneema
Measure off and length and cut. Remove the inner core and mark the lengths.

Fold the end points and get the latch needle
Hook into the braid a bit below the end point, then push hook into and up and inside the braid.
Push out through the braid, perhaps 5-10mm from mark.

Make sure its folded at the right point, and pull the outer layer down (the tag should end up inside). I then use a twisting rolling motion downwards to make it nice and tight.
Pull down, do the other end, loop around a solid ring. I use a small dob of super glue just to stop it moving when its not under pressure.
I've load tested and had the hooks fail first, and has held up through all my fights on PE2. Make your own choices if using a heavier line.

6 cent Jig ?
Submitted by Maine-iac on Sat, 2009-01-31 10:09This was copied from a general discussion forum, What do you think? Will it catch fish? HJG A sucker born every minute; I know I'm one expecially when it comes to fishing tackle. The attached link will lead you to some 40 remaining Diamond jigs on ebay, I am not indorsing the product nor do I know the seller or much about "Jiggin". But..... I got a winning bid on one @ .6 cents U S; of corse you have to factor in $ 4.99 shipping, But for $5.05 it's coming to WA with me. Sometimes the prep and "foreplay'' before a fishing trip become alittle consuming. Hope it works. Submitted by Maine-iac on Sun, 2009-01-18 22:40Good Morning Down Under, I will be visiting Bunbury W.A. the end of Feb. and am interested on finding out as much as I can before hand to know what to bring with me, Anyone interested in posting images of popular jigs used for your coastal and inshore fisheries? Would like to try and match them up with what I have available here in the states. Any info would be greatly appreciated, hope to cover as much water as possible, beach, coastal, inshore and offshore if I can make the contacts. Thanks HJG

Sunday Jigging
Submitted by chrisp on Sun, 2008-12-21 20:20 So headed out on Blue Juice today for my first jigging trip of the the season.
The ocean was fairly sloppy to start with and after adding a bit of my own burley due to seasickness we arrived at our first spot which supprisingly was in only 40mtres of water. The skipper said there ahd been some schooling up around the area and today was no different. It only took about 2 drops to get smashed and it was on with about 5 or 6 of us all getting a solid arm stretching. Its great not to have to pull them out of 110mtres!
We spent the rest of the day just going back over the school and they were fairly thick and not real picky with everyone getting in on the action.

One of the deckies was very inventive and tried the Barbie jig(which apparenty has worked before)
i even maganged to snap one of my rods..which i was not too proud of..wont name the brand(unless i dont get a new one on warranty)
I Still managed to land the fish though which was a solid sambo so it was still worth the sacrifice..
t was a great Day and so stoked to finally experience the action that i have spent so much time reading about.
Cant wait for another crack as soon as my arms recover..

Favourite Jigs
Submitted by WODF on Tue, 2008-12-09 14:03Hey guys,
I'd like to hear everyones favourite jigs between 100-300g for species such as tuna, mackerel, cobia, various snapper & other. Looking to build up my jig collection but with hundreds of options it's pretty hard to choose the right ones IMO. Am also pretty new to the jigging scene so any comments will be appreciated. Will be jigging in 20-80m of water if this helps.
Thnx

A word of thanks from SeasonsRods and Xzoga to all of those involved during our field test day!
Submitted by seasonsrods on Sat, 2008-12-06 19:18Just like to say a word of thanks to Craig of Saltwater Charters making the couple of days possible providing great food, service and putting us on to the fish. Also to those who took the time to join us on the day to give us a chance to show the capabilities of our products.
Apologies to those who I could not accommodate on the day and to those who felt the day could have been better organised. I will make sure our trip for next year will be even better!
Regards,
David

Xzoga Field Testing Day
Submitted by SamC on Thu, 2008-12-04 19:12G'Day
Was lucky enough to product test a range of Xzoga rods today out at the barges behind rotto!
These rods are simply AMAZING.
For PE1 through to PE12 they have you covered.
Either the 99% graphite Takadum TAKA-G blank or the Takadum TAKA-U (Eglass composite) you have to choose from.
I really dislike rods that have way too much backbone and almost rip your spine out of place when you are fighting a big fish, but these rods have next to no strain on the back and still the right taper to work the Jig properly.
They really do mean it when they say "when dreams become reality".
I would like to put out a massive thankyou to David from Xzoga and the rest of the Lemax and Xzoga crew for giving me the oppurtunity the test out these rods.
Also for Craig and Mitch from Saltwater Charters WA for putting us on the fish all day and providing gourmet breakky and lunch (only charter i know that does have amazing food and FRESH) and cold drinks. I would highly recommend Craig for any charter out of Perth and the Abrohlos simply because he knows what he is doing!
Here's a couple of shots from the day. Oh yeh lets just say the sambos were firing! bring on Jiggy Jig 08/09!!!

37kg Braid breaking at 25kg
Submitted by Justin Poole on Tue, 2008-12-02 21:06Bought some multi coloured Sufix Matrix Pro in 80lb or 37kg which ever you want to call it.
I tested it on my shimano scales 4 times and took it back to the shop as it broke above the bimini twist at 25kg, same again at the shop.
To me they should be selling this as 25kg line, the guys in the shop seem to think I am a wingger, they have took the braid and are going to ask the Suffix rep about this.
If i wanted it to break at 25 i would of bought 25kg line, I have a 27kg Jig stick so I thought i was buying the right line for it??
Will Black magic 37kg line do the same or Daiwa Tournament Accu Depth PE8??
If so no worries, seems like false advertising to me and I just want to get what I pay for.
Any comments would be great
Thank you

The jigging thread
Submitted by Blake.T. on Fri, 2008-11-07 17:16Its that time again, the sambos should be schooling up in big numbers pretty soon.
So, whos been out and amongst them already? whos got themselves a new secret weapon to give you that edge over everyone else? and whos gonna be getting out there and trying to jig till there arms drop off??
For me, i'll hopefully be able to get a deckie spot on a few boats and get out a fair bit this summer, i finished school today and don't go back till february so its going to be a loooong, hot summer for me, with hopefully a lot of offshore fishing to come (bream are boring).
So lets hear your story??

Jurien Bay Jigging
Submitted by collie on Tue, 2008-11-04 09:41Hey guys,
Im heading to to Jurien Bay in mid December and was wondering if it would be productive to chase sambos on the jigs. I have an 18.5 foot boat so i can get offshore a bit. i understnad there are drop ofs 3 and 20Km offshore. Anybody have any pointers about jigging becuase i have only done it on a charter before. I have some decent gear which will be heavy enough but how far offshore do you think you would need to head?? Also any jigs and/or techniques you wold reccommend??
Cheers.
