Accurate sues Jigging Master for patent infringment in the USA

Not really sure what, if any implications it has for us in Australia, but Jigging Master is being sued by Accurate for patent infringement.

A few of the US dealers are quitting the reels because realistically, if Accurate wins, all that can happen is that they can prevent the sale of the product in the USA.

Its unlikely to affect the availability of the product outside the USA though, except indirectly by affecting sales volume, and if that has a knock on effect with pricing.

ryoga bay jigger

hey just chasin some suggestions on a rod. i picked up a daiwa ryoga bay jigging reel while on holidays in japan, spooled up 200m of 13kg, anyone got any ideas that might open my mind a bit more. at the moment its on a barra stick... scary!  Cheers.

a good trip to montes

went on a trip to montes with blue lightening charters and had loads of fun, was a 5 day trip, the weather gods weren’t 2 nice to us but we made the most of it. Done some trawling in the mornings then a bottom bash in arvo when the wether died down .

i jigged most of the trip while the others used bait when bottom bashing. on the third day the jiggs went off. 8 out of the 9 coral trout caught were on jigs. plenty of fish caught on the trip from reds to coral trout to cobia, the list was endless.

the highlight for the trip was the 79cm coral trout i jigged up in 40m of water. my brother helped me land the fish and had a pic with the fish aswell, went poping for gt's but they wernt firing but the spots we tried looked prety awsome , might have to go back when the weather gets a bit hotter.

it was also good to see alot of whales around, counted atleast 80 of of them , one night we anchord up were the tender was and ther was a residential cod that lives around there that was prety cool, you could hand feed him.

i took over 900 photos, but ill just upload a couple of the fish i caught,

First crack at jigging in Pohnpei

Took the boat out for some trolling, with the plan to dive and jig at the closest atoll while the sun was at its highest. Didn't even get a sniff in a combined three hours of trolling.

Had an absolute awesome dive though with about 40 metres of vis. A million different fish, great cave with fan coral and I scored a massive conch shell (what the islanders used to use as vocal horns). Spewen I didn't take the underwater case for the camera - next time.

Best part of the day for me was the fishing. I hadn't tried jigging at any length before today but decided today was a bait free day. The local that I went out with laughed at me as he dropped his baited hook. First drop of the jig a little Coral Trout jumped on. A little later I caught a nice Napoleon Wrasse and then a Brown-Marbled Grouper. None of them were big fish but it was definately another first. First time I caught all three fish and on a jig makes it even better. In case you're wondering my local friend didn't catch a fish on bait all day.

Which Jigging Rod??

I have a stella 10000FA reel and want to pair it up to a jigging rod. I want to be able to use this jigging rod for bottom bouncing or having an unweighted bait out the back of the boat whilst drifting or being anchored (as well as jigging) and will probably have 50-80lb braid on it.

Does anyone have an opinion on which rod would be best suited to this?

I'm tossing up between the Powerjig, Blue Rose and maybe a JiggingMaster Three Kings. I've tried to find info on the Powerjig rods but there isn't much info on them. Anyone own one or can advise on what they are like.

Any other ideas of what would be a suitable rod please let me know. If all three rods are as good as each other I'll just go the cheaper of the three.

Cheers guys.

PE3 Jigging rod

I am relatively new to jigging and looking to buy a rod in PE3 class. Will likely be using it around Perth and the NW of WA as well as the Coromandel
coast in NZ.
My budget is about $500 and I would be pairing the rod up with a Saragosa 8k.
At this stage I am looking at the Hearty Rise Deep Blue 55, the JM 200S or maybe the Smith AMJ 56L. It would be great to hear opinions from anyone who has used these rods. Keen to know the pros and cons of the faster action rods vs the parabolic action of the JM.
Will be using jigs up to 200gms in less than 100m targeting a range of species.
Would be very interested in anyones suggestions.
Cheers,

Matt

New Ajiking Samson-Z jigging reel

G'day all

Just a heads up on the new Ajiking Samson-Z jigging reel.  These bad boys have just come in over the past couple of days, I haven't seen them yet so I can't comment specificially but the spiel on them is below... I'll post something more detailed when I've had a look / play and know a bit more about them.  RRP is around $420.  If any of our list of stockists don't currently have them they will be able to get them in if you want to have a squiz.

major craft

Just curious to know whether anybody has fished or even just had a play with any of the rods in the Major Craft Off Blow jigging series? Have seen them online and they are dirt cheap for a jap made rod with quality components but how do they acctualy perform?

I am currently usuing the 200gm Maria steady jigger with a Stella 5000sw for my light set up but thought for around 200 bucks why not find out a bit more about the Major Craft.

Thanks in advance,

Daniel

Anyone interested in buying in some FCl Labo SL jigs?

Colours shown; Silver/Pink, Silver/Blue, Silver. There is also another colour called horse mack, its got a yellowish cast to it where the others are coloured, silver everwhere else.

They're available in 180g ($32), 230g ($38), 270g ($38) & 320g ($44) sizes. Shipping is in the order of $50 for 6 jigs, and they quote delivery as being a week.

Apparently they're very popular for Tuna in the US. Anyone interested in getting a few in?

FIN-NOR reels

Does anyone use FIN-NOR OFFSHORE spinning reels for jigging or other types of boat fishing ?

I have been looking at the 75, 85, or 95 series with interest.
They seem a very well constructed reel, although the 95 is heavy.
What rod would suit these reels as well. Or any other spinning reel for that matter for boat fishing.

Cheers
Terry

Ocea Jigger LD 2000II replacement for Shimano Ocea Jigger 2000P announced.

I've been wanting a lever drag replacement for the Shimano Ocea Jigger 2000P for awhile, and it looks like its getting an update!

In the original Japanese, Plat, or on google translate.

The LD2000II holds 95m less PE4 than the Talica TAC8II which it is based on. I don't yet know if that means its narrower, or the spool has a larger arbour. It also seems to have one more bearing. The gear inches are pretty much the same as the 2000P in high speed (96cm), or the same as the JM PE4 in low gear (60cm).

Not really sure what the point of having a two speed jigger is, and thats after owning one as well. We can only hope that shimano gets smart and releases a single speed version and soon!

There is a single speed version of the talica coming real soon now, really. They have been promising Feb, then March, April and now May dammit.

Edit: the spool width of the TAC8II is 34mm and if the LD2000II holds 25% less, then the spool width would be about 25mm, exactly what the Ocea Jigger 2000P has. I'm a bit worried from the pics that they just put a fatter arbour on the TAC8 spool. My current PE3 jigger is an Avet SX and that is 37mm across, and its easy to handle. The Daiwa Saltist LD30II was way too wide though.

4500 size jigging reel

Looking for a mid size jigging reel, but don't want to spend heaps, budget of about $200-250??  What do you folks recommend?

would a shimano 6500b baitrunner

be ok to use to try out some jigging for reds in about 40 odd meters of water,  (gnarloo)

running 30 or 50 lb braid can't remeber which.

on a shake ugly stick 15-37kg 6 ft boat road.

or should I use an overhead either a tld 25 on a backbone 15kg with 50 braid  or a tld50 2 speed running 80 lb mono on a 37 kj SHIMANO RIAD

I have a couple of lucanus jigs in pinks reds and gold blue 180-200g and a pink 300gr wiliamson knife.

Just wanting tpo try it out and see how it goes against the others on my boat using bait.  '

Any suggestions ideas etc much appreciated.

Spiral wrapped jigging rods

Thought I'd make a post to stimulate some discussion on the jigging section Wink

Since I've recently acquired my first overhead reel, the next dilemma if of course what rod to pair it with.

To be honest I've never been a huge fan of overheads, as I find concentrating on using my thumb to lay line and fighting a rod that wants to twist distracting. However after trying some 'deep-ish' jigging with my spin outfit, it became apparent that an overhead is alot less tiresome winding up 500-600g of metal from 300m+.

The plan is to use the combo on the odd/rare occasion that I get a chance to deep jig, and initially I was considering a Smith Mariana 300 to go with a Blue Heaven L120Lo. Since then I've stumbled on the concept of using spiral wrapped rods to address the issue of rod torque/rotation, but I've not come across many 'off the shelf' rods, Japanese (or otherwise), that come with spiral wrapped guides. Anybody own, or used one?

And for those who don't have a clue what I'm on about, look at the attached picture and note the position of the rod guides.

one or two hooks for demersal fish

Hey guys quite new to jigging have recently purchaced a new jigging combo for demersals,a saltiga s-extreme 4500 spin reel and a nice little diawa catalina to match have started recently using jigs ,i started off using the shimano lucanus with great success with the first time out landing a 5kg pinkie, two of the biggest leatherjackets ive ever seen and a 8 kg queen snapper,i was blown away.next time out my jigs were getting destroyed by something with teeth so i decided to give a zest knife jig a go with no reel confidence and any idea how to work them.,but after about an hour of jigging i had a solid hookup and it turned out to be a small dhue ,it was size but was released as it was just so exciting to catch one on a jig.i am hooked now and cant wait to get out this weekend to try out some of my new  jigs, just wondering weather to run two assist hooks or oneCool

light lines

hey fishwrecked. anyone who has experience with light pe line classes, i am finding it hard to pick a line to spool a stella 5000sw. it has a very narrow spool, ideally id like to have 250+ metres, so i can cast to nrthern bluefin, and longtail. That leaves me @ no higher than pe2, locally i can get ygk powerhunter 24lb, or daiwa sw8 25lb. i cant find the diametre of these, and they are @ different locations so it is hard to tell which is the thinner. Does any one use these lines or otherrs also does anyone use a 5000SW and for what purposes?

The spool states 0.30mm 230m.

thanks to all!
