hardtop roof liner -3mm boat board or similar ?
Submitted by pelagicyachts on Fri, 2022-05-27 13:40Hi all
I have a hardtop which had a liner to hide wiring for solar, nav lights etc - the existing liner was removed by previous owner and i am looking to replace -its around 2.5m x 2.5m but could be replaced in smaller sections, liner not structural at all but will get wet....
was thinking of something like 3mm boat board - any other ideas out there?
cheers

Covid tax is strong!
Submitted by Swompa on Fri, 2022-05-27 07:32So in recent weeks, the plans for the next boat has taken a few steps in the right direction and yesterday, after having a look at a Genesis 700 XL (2.7m beam) getting built, i am pretty sure we are set on the size (i can lay down on the cockpit floor but the cabin space is still an issue...
Anyhoo, i entertained myself online (get your mind out of the gutter) looking at boats and found these two.
I have seen the 950 down in Mandurah and follow on the gram. I see he has done some stuff with Explorelife on youtube. Cool boat and all but half a mill?
The 700XL would come out as a bare boat on a trailer with motor for ~85-90k. Yeah its pretty and you can get it now but shit, is there 90k of extra stuff there?
www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/trailer-boats/genesis-700-xl-hardtop-2020-model-length-overall-7-8mt/277523
Am i off the mark or are these boats priced with only one hand for typing?

Last trip out in coral bay
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Thu, 2022-05-26 19:42Well that's another holiday over . Got out there nice and early with a bit of a chill in the air at 17 degrees. Bugger all wind the whole 20nm but the fishing was a bit hard with no drift and the current running gv , 32 oz wouldn't even hold bottom but we still managed a few nice fish . Came back into the 70s a bit after noon and got 1 spanglie and 2 damn cobia then the sharks moved in . That was then end of fishing for us . Sandy got a pb 13 kg cobia (equaled my pb)
All up had a great trip away spending quality time with Sandy and mum and got some nice fillets to take home.

Something to ponder
Submitted by sea-kem on Sun, 2022-05-22 19:59Literally just walked in the door back from the yearly trip to Gnaraloo, report soon.
Something happened up there a couple of days ago that had me thinking quite a bit.
Anyway a group of 3 guys were out fishing and 45 minutes from shore when the Skipper collapsed after having a stroke.
From what has been relayed to me the crew were in a panic and unsure
1. how to operate the vessel and 2. How to navigate properly even with a GPS.
They eventually got a handle on it and managed to get back to shore and navigate the bay which can be tricky in itself.
In a major stroke of luck there was a "surfing doctor's " convention up there and a few of them on the beach who gave first aid and a proffessional estimate on what his condition was.
He was shipped off to Cranarvon hospital for futher treatment, luckily again for him the stroke occured in his neck so no brain trauma.
The thing that got me thinking is how many crews out there know how to handle a boat in a situation like that. It could have gone majorly pear shaped.
Thankfully both my crew are experinced boaties so no problem, but Gnaraloo is very isolated and help most times not readily at hand and also the reason we don't drink while on the water.
Luck played a major role in this situation, next time maybe not.

Lithium batteries
Submitted by roddo on Sun, 2022-05-22 15:10Has anyone put lithium batteries in there boat as house batteries.
I currently have 2x 120AH agm deep cycle house batteries and thinking of swapping them out for lithium to reduce weight and gain more usable power the boat is used mainly for island trips and it gets loaded pretty heavily so the weight reduction would be great.
From the research I have done I think a cylindrical cell lithium would be the way to go.
Anyone have any suggestions.
Cheers

Coral bay 3rd day out.
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Fri, 2022-05-20 18:14Hit the water at 6 slowly going out as the water was I bit rough. Seen a few birds working the water so in the lures went . First lot a stripe tuna nailed the lure , good for bait . Bit further on another lot of birds. In go the lures this time as the second one was going out the first got hit hard. I grabbed that one that was going nuts and Sandy was retrieving the second one and a stripe tuna nailed it. Mum netted that one (first time ever on the net) and 15 minutes later my tuna came to the surface but this time the gaffe was needed, I nice yellowfin tuna on deck .
Headed out to the 120 mark and set the first drift. Great results we all got fish . 2 drifts later we had all we could get from there only leaving 3 more fish to catch. Headed back into the 70s to try for reds and whatever else might like fresh tuna for lunch. Ended up with 2 reds and a robo. Called it quits with our bag limit.
Mum got her first red emperor, Goldie and robo
Sandy nailed a red and the biggest Goldie for the day and I got the second biggest. Great day had by all and a good trip in

Coral bay day 2
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Wed, 2022-05-18 18:41First fish hooked . 10 mtrs from the boat and the taxman hit .
That was it , we went exploring out in the 120 mtrs region. Slowly moving along looking for any signs of life and eventually we found a bit of life. First drift all 3 of us were on . Mum got a fry pan snapper I got a nice robo and Sandy lost hers. Nothing else there interested in the bait so further north we went. Found some more life on the bottom and set drift. All up we all went well. Mum got her first amberjack, rosy jobfish and redthroat emperor. Sandy got her first goldband snapper and rosy jobfish. I managed my first goldband snapper that turned out to be the biggest fish for the day and my first rosy jobfish. All up was a great day and cruised back from 20 nm out sitting on average of 22 knots.

Drummonds Cove boat ramp survey-please fill in
Submitted by Rob H on Thu, 2022-05-12 13:47afternoon all, we have for a long time been pushing for a boat ramp facility in the north end of Geraldton.
This would double to provide erosion protection which has been a big issue in the area.
Below is a link to the survey, takes 5 min of time, also a link to the concept.
Problem is the money allocated now does not cover it and a fair bit more is needed.
IF you could post up, anyone who completes it, thatd be awesome

Rare catch . A first for me
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Tue, 2022-05-03 17:02Had most of the day off and what's better than sitting down t he beach with a line in the water.
Lost a metre plus Queenie with the hook breaking just 10 feet from the beach. Landed a couple of the usual critters and a nice golden trev . Just as I was starting to pack up one of my lines started to peel off slowly but not a fight I have ever felt before. Was thinking it might be a ray of some sort but no, it was a turtle that had wrapped the line around it's flipper. Untangled it and a quick pic with a safe release

Good ole freo fan
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Fri, 2022-04-22 09:24This mornings news and an absolute crack up
"Fremantle Dockers fan given heave-ho after breaking into West Coast Eagles HQ, says Elliot Yeo"
The midfielder spoke about the encounter on the club’s podcast Coast to Coast, which he claims took place on Wednesday in the hours after the side’s main training session.
“I’ve strolled in a little bit late (to record) but this is actually fact and it has happened, it’s unfolded in front of my eyes,” Yeo told co-hosts Oscar Allen and Steven Bandy.
“There’s a man on Mineral Resources Park, he’s somehow got through the gate, blind (drunk) as anything.
“Freo jumper on, with a stubbie in his hand, rolling around the oval, pretending to shadow kick, take marks, give it to the crowd.”
When asked if he thought the man, who Yeo estimated was in his 40s, was auditioning for a spot on the list, the Eagles star joked: “We’ll take what we can get.”
The 28-year-old appeared humoured by the situation but said the Fremantle fan was “very quickly” escorted from the ground.

It's all about exploring
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2022-04-17 20:55 Another day out exploring new ground. This time we ventured out past the anchorage for the ships to look around at some of the ground . Again we found the fish. Sandy got our first pilbara red , unfortunately it was a bit on the small size but love the color of them. Managed another good haul of blue lined emperor with a couple of big ones amongst them. Sandy found out first hand how hard the big catfish fight (kept for bait next trip). I hooked up while sorting that out and expecting to see a monster fish on the line going by the fight as it got close to the surface I had 1 trout on the top set of hooks (released straight away) and on the bottom set of hooks a nice trout and a blue lined emperor , my first triple hookup. Certainly surprised me . Ended up cruising in on 22 knots. Great day on new ground so we're going to explore a lot more building up our spots out from hedland
