Hyundai ILoad TQ-V Van information

Hi all

Looking at purchasing a van to service the business. Looking at the Hyundai ILoad TQ-V Van with the rear seat as an option.

Any advice on the Iload would be appreciated. I need the rear seat option for the kids. Not old enough for the front seat yet.

Quobba Report

Got back Saturday from a fantastic week at Quobba

Weather was not perfect but we were able to fish every day and managed to get a few fish past the sharks. Fished mostly at Garths and finally found the caves. Also fished a secret spot that I am sworn to secrecy. Luckily one day we fished there no sharks and we managed to land 8 Sharkies and 2 spannish mackeral. kept 6 of the fish and happy to be putting some back.

Sharkies average 5-8kg and the mackies caught were around 7-8kg.

Managed to hook a few more mackies but found them unstopable. Some we estimated to be 15kg. They either reefed us or sharks got them.

I also managed to get a small GT and on the last day landed a shark of around 5ft. Took a jig meant for the sharkies. Think it is a Bronzie

Overall had a great week catch 16 Sharkies and 2 mackies.

My weapon of choices was Diawa Saltist 6500 loaded with 50lb braid and Shimano Starlo 1006 graphite rod. Lures were mostly Bucktail Jigs we purchase from cabelas in the US and also 85g Raiders.

Will with best Sharkie from the trip at Garths

Me with Sharkie caught at the caves

Shark caught on the last day

Hooked up on good size mackie - lost to sharks

Double hook up at the caves

Abrolhos trip

Will be heading up stright after christmas for 4 days if weather is good ,for anyone who is intrested to tag along. Would like to fit one in before christmas but i think not.

Blue board installer (Not fishing related)

Hi all. Just wondering if there's anyone on here who can install blue board  to the out side of my house? I'm getting the asbestos removed soonish. I'm  capable of doing it myself but just don't have the time. I would want to have the sheets sealed in between as well as I'm going to render tex.

Cheers

Andy

Epic hail storm

Just had a flash hail storm over Joondalup, the proverbial  hail the size of golf balls. Fun times. Not sure if wide spread but maybe move cars under cover?

PR knot

Just wanted to know if anyone is actively using the PR knot? I've been told with a bobbin it a very easy knot to tie and retains almost 100% line strength. Second query is there anywhere loacl that supplies the bobbins? Cheers.

Cabinet maker apprenticeship available.

I might know about an apprenticeship position available in the Bayswater area. The suitable candidate needs to be hard working with interest in cabinet making, have pride of his job, be reliable and well presented. All the jobs are done straight for the customers, so 4 piercings hanging out of your mouths, disc in your ear and half of your face tattooed won’t get you far. It’s an opportunity to gain experience from 2 easy going, but demanding tradesmen and learn cabinet making from the CAD design to finished product including work on CNC router. If there is a member or a member’s kid interested, PM me for more info with little bit about yourself.

Marlin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euuG0P_3rc8&feature=youtu.be

Hope this link works. Finally got around to posting this on youtube. I hooked into this beast (first ever) just out of Gnaraloo bay on the baby Okuma I bought from Honsu Chin. As you can see it caused much laughter and merriment as we couldn't quite bloody believe it

2002 Hyundai Accent Clutch

Hi all,

Fairly certain my clutch is dying. It's a 2002 Hyundai Accent with 130,000 on the clock. I only use it to get to the train station and back (about 8km a day) and the other half has the nice car for her and the bubs.

Thinking a new clutch is probabaly cheaper than a new piece of crap and atleast I know the history of this one, other half bought it 5 years ago as her first car. The engine and gearbox still seem fine.

Just wondering what people think would be a reasonable ballpark figure to get it replaced?

Has anyone replaced one on an accent before? Contemplating having a crack myself, I've worked on older cars before but that was easier than these side mounted motors

Any reccomendations of people SOR would be appreciated.

Cheers

Two boars (warning - photo of dead FERAL animals)

Not fishing, but a bit of hunting.

Picked up a couple of nice boars on the weekend. Big one was about 70kgs and the smaller one around 45kg.

Both were bedded down in the heat with the large one bolting from a small bush 2 metres to my left, thankfully he didn't charge at me.

Desert Island Entertainment

Was otherwise engaged for a few days and returned to find I'd missed the boat somewhat on the book thread (Damn you sea-kem)... so here's my contribution to pull together some of the recent talk regarding non-fishing related entertainment. The demersal ban is on down south and up here in Derby I'm waiting for the wet to start, so there's a few fishers with spare time to ponder other matters. Here's my premise:

If you were to be stranded on a desert island for the rest of your life and could only take 3 Albums, 3 Books and 3 Movies, what would they be? It's no easy task restricting it to three choices for each but for what it's worth, here's my contribution:

ALBUMS

1. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea- Neutral Milk Hotel

2. The Crane Wife- Decemberists

3. American Idiot- Green Day

BOOKS

1. The Water Method Man- John Irving

2. Captain Corelli's Mandolin- Louis De Bernieres

3. Catch 22- Joseph Heller

MOVIES

1. Miller's Crossing

2. The Usual Suspects

3. To Kill a Mockingbird

Bit left field in parts but I guess that's the point. You may relate to a few choices suggested by someone but haven't heard of some of the others, so you check them out and discover something you like. Looking forward to seeing what others have to offer.

Stolen Gear

Hey fellow fishers, well i done the dumb thing of parking my boat on my property again. Stop me if im wrong but this must be an invitation for pricks to jump aboard and help themselves to what ever is inside.

If anyone knows of anyone trying to off load and underwater tow camera pm me. Would be interested in buying it back

Along with the camera, flares, jackets, mako gaffs and a full size first aid kit have gone walkabout about a week ago from the Hocking area

Cheers guys, tight lines and big crays

i return...

dunno if i was banned/barred or blocked but i couldnt get back on this site even trying every possible password including password....

regardless, hope all is well,as is here

Upgrading Suspension on Boat Trailer

Hi all,

I want to upgrade my boat trailer dual suspension and would like to know the best people to talk to, I would like to get Galv axles and springs etc and need to have a Min spec of 1500kg rating per axle. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated..

In Deep Shirt----Water.

Spotted it this morning and couldn't resist going out and taking a few pics. It has been trying a couple of times to deepen the channel in to the Fascine  [small boat harbour, for non Carnarvon familiar folk] that's mouth has been sanding up severely for a couple of years and now is something like 400mm deep at low tide making it nearly impassible for bigger boats unless its over half tide.

It is nearly a good replacement port channel marker.

Glad its not my machine because its going to be a very expensive exercise to fix it with all the wiring and electronics to be replaced and possible enging and hydraulics to be done as well.

Will head down later to see what efforts are being done to recover it from its little hole some 50-60 metres from shore

Xtreme Coolers 4WD winner

Hi all.

Last weekend was the 4WD and Adventure show in South Perth. As a small incentive for FW members, i was offering them the chance to win the value of their purchase back in cash. All you had to do was to purchase a cooler from me at the show to go in to the draw.

The odds were really good: 1 in 7 chances to win.

The winner, drawn by my wife is:

Brent (Ox) Congratulations Ox.

Ox purchased the XTWC85litre cooler.

The most popular cooler was the XT70litre by far.

Thanks to all of the FW crew who came down to the show to buy or simply say hello. We had a good show and thoroughly enjoy the experience.

Ox, i will be in touch.

Regards

Good books you have read

After Adam's thread about TV shows Mat T has inspired me to start this one about good books as I've usually got a couple on the go.A good holiday is always accompanied with a good book. So I'll start the show with two absolutely brilliant books I've read recently: The Sisters brothers (about two assasins in the California gold rush) and Snowdrops (Russia in the 90's can't say much more or it'll spoil the plot). Also the Dark tower series which I'm re reading (Stephen King)

Samsung Galaxy S3 4G bluetooth query

Hi all, thinking about getting a new phone, and quite like the latest Galaxy S3 4G. I have read on the net that the new phones can have problems connecting to in-car bluetooth systems like in my Nissan Navara ST, because of updated versions of bluetooth in the phones.

Is there anyone on this site that has or knows someone with the latest Galaxy 4G phone whether it connects to the Navara Bluetooth system.

Also interested to hear any positives or negatives on this phone.

Cheers

Poor Form?

So I'm out with the family on Saturday morning, enjoying some inshore fishing before the wind picks up. The young blokes are getting a bit bored, so I decide to take us in close to the causeway where I know they will catch a trumpeter or butterfish on every drop, just to give them some fun before we call it a day. We anchor up about 20m off the causeway on the sound side, and all is good, kids having fun and seasick Mrs happy to be in flat water. No other boats within 500m, the occasional jet skier cruising past without issue.

Through the coathanger comes one large and at this stage un-named dolphin watching boat. Mrs says "Why is that boat heading straight for us?" and I assure her it will turn. Anyway, as usual, she is right and I am wrong, and the sightseeing boat cruises past between us and the causeway. Came very close to going over the anchor rope (no breeze so it was slack), scared the Mrs, and had us all holding on while the wake fairly tossed us about.

I can't see any reason why the skipper decided to do that, there was nobody else around, and he had the whole sound to move around in. There weren't any dolphins nearby, and his mooring (where I assume he was returning to) was in a different direction. I was simply stunned at the time, so I didn't call them up or react in any way (other than to hold on)

Poor form, or me being over sensitive?

BD.

PS Kids caught loads of trumpeter and had a ball. I got my KG for dinner, so all in all was a good morning.
