New bees to fishing perth
Submitted by Paul G on Sat, 2011-06-25 20:14The perth metro coast line is dangerous and unpredictable, so please don't take chances going out in the dark with swells running .No fish is worth your life and going early won't mean you will catch more fish . Not having a go at anyone but I have seen many people come undone in conditions predicted for tomorrow . So take care and be safe.

Hello, First post
Submitted by Batty on Fri, 2011-06-24 22:18Followed the forums for a while now and would like to say thanks for all the advice everybody posts on here, it has helped me tremendously.
Coming from the UK 15 months ago having been a very keen freshwater angler and never having done any sea fishing it was like starting all over again but after following all the advice on here I have now started getting some results.
Just dissapointed its so windy here alot of the time !!!!
Sundays looking good so will be heading out to try some more jigging/plastics and bottom bouncing. Where do you think will be better back of Rotto or Two rocks ? only been from Two rocks once and got lured out deep chasing massive Tuna shoals but on the way back couldnt belive how much good ground there was!!! unfortunatley the weather was turning and had to get back in quick !!!
I will post some reports (if weather ok)

Sharkfishing
Submitted by Lamby on Fri, 2011-06-24 17:27On a tour of Australia, the Pope took a few days off to visit the coast for some sightseeing.
He was cruising along the beach in the Pope-mobile when there was a frantic commotion just off shore. A helpless man, wearing a Springboks rugby shirt, was struggling frantically to free himself from the jaws of a 25 foot shark. As the Pope watched in horror, a speedboat pulled up with three men wearing Wallabies shirts. One quickly fired a harpoon into the shark's side while the other two reached out and pulled the blue semiconscious hairyback sheila from the water. Then, using the long clubs, the three beat the shark to death and hauled it into the boat.
Immediately, the Pope shouted and summoned them to him. "I give you my blessing for your brave actions. I heard that there were some bitter hatreds between the South Africans and the Aussies, but now I have seen with my own eyes that this is not true."
As the Pope drove off, the harpooner asked his pals, "who was that?"
"It was the Pope" one replied. "He is in direct contact with God and has access to all of God's wisdom."
"Well" the harpooner said, "he may have access to God and his wisdom, but he doesn't know anything about shark fishing. Is the bait holding up okay or do we need to get another one?"

Fishwreckers in the South Eastern Suburbs - I hope you are behaving yourselves
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Thu, 2011-06-23 10:41In the past four days I have seen more Police on the roads around Beckenham, Cannington, Kenwick, Thornlie, Ferndale etc than I have ever seen in my entire life.
The boys in blue are out in force and obviously up to something. Yesterday in 3 km on one road I saw three marked police cars and two undercover cop cars. I think yesterday alone I would have seen 12 police cars.
I just got back from the shops and was overtaken on Spencer Road in Thornlie by a Black Subaru WRX Hatchback with 3 aerials on the front window and the Undercover lights on the front and rear dashboard and two stern faced plainclothes police officers.
So look after yourselves and behave:D

A question for the jiggers.
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Wed, 2011-06-22 19:40A question for those in the know.
When jigging for bottom fish up North, is the action as fast as it is for the Sambos or do you slow the movement down. I am heading up to Gnaraloo on the 8th and are pretty keen to get some jigs down there if the weather is kind enough. We generally fish in 30 - 60 mtrs of water.
Would appreciate any comments.

shimano warranty
Submitted by scotto on Wed, 2011-06-22 16:56Hey all, ive got a nice spheros 6000 that i bought late in 07, and its anti-reverse is starting to play up. it hasnt had a very hard life at all, and its still cosmetically A1, so i want to get it sorted.
I have the receipt, and the tackle shop where i bought it is still there, but its trading under a different name, and more than likely different owners.
my question is this - its under shimano's warranty, but where abouts do i take it to get it fixed under warranty? should i take it back to where I got it (the address is on the receipt), or is there another way or place to get it sorted?
any feedback appreciated. scotto

Humminbird Problems
Submitted by Albee Mangles on Wed, 2011-06-22 08:29Guys i have a Humminbird 798cxi just over a year old, just out of warranty.. I am having some kind of problem where it shuts down a few seconds after turning on. Ive checked batteries, connections, cables etc, even tried on another boat, but still the same issue so fairly certain its in the head unit.
I'm looking for someone to repair it, can anyone reccomend anyone in Perth? Will Humminbird do it? I have emailed BLA but haven't had a response yet, but early days. Any advice would be appreciated.

Towing dinghy by centre console
Submitted by CCC on Tue, 2011-06-21 16:49
Hi all
Has anyone towed a aluminium dinghy(3-3.5m length) behind a aluminium boat about 5.5-6.0m in length. Planning another trip up now and want a dinghy to access shore as many of the water holes etc are hard to park up without banging up on rocks.
I have a small dinghy that I was thinking about adding air-o-floats to then tow this behind my centre console.
I'm interested in how this will affect fuel burn and general handling
Any info would be appreciated
Was thinking about an inflatable but think crocs may be an issue
Cheers

2 Yachties Rescued
Submitted by carnarvonite on Mon, 2011-06-20 20:52Got a call from one of the home bases last night alerting us of a mayday call sent out from a sinking yacht with two locals on board. By the time I'd got down there the rescue boat was well on its way to the position given during the mayday call and a radio operator and co ordinator had things up and going .
Some twenty minutes later and we got a call from water police letting us know that their epirb had been set off and Canberra AUSSAR centre had their position from the first satellite pass. Got a second position report from Canberra giving a new position some 1nm away from the first oneand looking as though it was in the same direction as the tidal current flow. We got another call from water police telling us the search and resue dornier plane with all the high tech search gear had taken off and was on its way.
Some ten to fifteen minutes later we got the call from the boat that we all love to hear that they had sighted the blokes in the water clinging to the submerged yacht and were heading over to get them out of the drink .Both men were pulled on board and were on the way back in and the planes assistance would not be needed.
Cheers all round in the radio room for a job well done. They arived back in at around 0130 in the morning cold and wet but still alive and thats the bit that is most important.
From info given to us from water police, this is the third epirb actuation this month resulting in persons having to be rescued while in the water after their boats had either sunk or were full submerged and all have finished with all being rescued alive.

Double swag
Submitted by timboon on Mon, 2011-06-20 00:17Hi Fishwrecked crew, I`m looking at upgrading my King Size single swag and getting a good quality Double Swag. When i take the ball and chain away camping it seems to be me who draws the short straw and gets the colder side when then Zipper slowly undoes itself through the night. The Swag i`ve had for over ten years was made in Mount Gambier in SA, Its a John Whiltshires. He makes a great swag but it is just a swag it doesn`t have the tie of points or any extras that alot of swags have to try and keep you comfortable and not so claustraphobic like the ones of old. Does anybody know of the better West Oz Swags?? I`m sure there are plenty and personal choice will be the decider but because I haven`t looked at buying one for ten years i`m sure your advice would be helpful. Cheers Timmy

Tandoor Oven
Submitted by big john on Sat, 2011-06-18 21:59A couple of weeks ago the better half found a website in Aus that sells portable tandoori ovens. We'd been looking at homemade ones online for a while but never got around to making one.
Anyhow's, to cut the story short, we ordered one and it turned up this week.
Fired it up today for its maiden cook, and we weren't disappointed, the tandoori chicken was awesome. Looking forward to doing plenty more with it, including making the naan breads to go with the chicken etc.
