Lost bet
Submitted by randall df223 on Fri, 2017-10-20 14:58Early this year i made a bet with FW member Jackfrost. Some stupid idea that the dockers would finish higher up the ladder than the eagles.
My punishment is an avatar and signature of jack's choice for me.
I have changed my signature and as soon as i can work out how to reduce the file size, i will change the avatar.

Last ever locally made holden today , end of a era?
Submitted by quadfisher on Fri, 2017-10-20 07:58Yes as a boy growing up in the 70,s and dad buying EH wagons , H.g sedans and a belmont ( big spender!) and seeing and hearing brand new xu-1s and monaros
as well as sandman vans and 308 premier wagons on the streets , as well as geminis , sunbirds and 4 cycl commodores its a sad day , so if your having a beer tonight after work ,
raise a glass to what was and will never be again. 69 years of local car manufacturing dead.
Feel free to list the good and bad holdens in your life, I got a few memories back just writing this.

looking for a donk
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Mon, 2017-10-16 16:36Hi all. were still looking for a motor to sit on the back of the swifty. i have looked at a few. but no luck so far. a couple were way too old and a couple you just cant get parts for anymore.
So im just throwing it out there. our budget isnt too high as we need new steering as well and need to rewire the boat properly . Is there anyone that has repowered or going to repower their tub and the old motor is still in good nick. it doesnt matter if its 2 stroke just reliable altho 4 stroke would be better. even if you know of one prefer something from 2000 onwards but not esential. Must also be a long leg i think 22"
The motor will be going on a swiftcraft dominator so anything from a 115 to a 150 i have been told would do the job.
if you can help us out it would be appreciated. either post on here or pm its up to you. we are in mandurah
Thanks Russ and Sandy

Wallet found Old Duns
Submitted by Bombero on Sun, 2017-10-15 15:07Found a wallet in Old Dunsb, belonged to a fisho. If it's yours I dropped it to the police. They were really good, stopped off to see me between jobs. They said they could get a contact number so hope you are reunited. If not contact Dunsb Police.

Gone fishing day apply to Crays?
Submitted by oz74 on Sat, 2017-10-14 20:54Anyone know if the "gone fishing day" and not needing a Rec fishing licence to catch fish tomorrow, also applies to Crays?
eg, can three people go diving from a boat tomorrow and catch 8 Crays each if they don't have a licence?

Looking for Crew
Submitted by Cruise Control on Sat, 2017-10-14 19:02I have recently retired and am looking to get more use out of my boat. I am looking for potential recruits to form a regular crew to fish Perth weekdays locally.
Boat is a 23 Cruise Craft with twin 115 4 strokes. I am looking for guys that have boating experience and have their own gear that will enable them to pursue a variety of different species. Obvious goal is to have a good time, get a feed and share knowledge.
My preference is for guys who know their way around boats. Costs and catch to be on a share basis, you could work on $70 to $100 per day depending on distance to be travelled and number on board (no more than 3)
Anyone interested, please drop me a PM, let me know your location, what type of fishing that you prefer and perhaps a few personal details, likes and dislikes etc. and we can go from there. And just in case you were wondering, I don't allow alcohol or bananas on the boat.
cheers

Bung - screw from inside the boat
Submitted by bradz on Fri, 2017-10-13 08:48Hi guys
Im slooooooowly doing a rebuild on an old Regent Viscount and have come up with what I thought was a great idea. As part of the transom rebuild I am contemplating installing the screw in bung fitting so that it is accessed from inside the boat rather than outside. The reason for this is that in the event of taking on a large amount of water, it would be easier and alot quicker to unscrew the bungs and get underway in they were located inside the hull. Every boat Ive ever owned had the bungs threaded from the outside.
Is this idea simply so simply brilliant that no one else has done it or am I missing something very obvious?

Caravan Parks Exmouth
Submitted by Iceman on Thu, 2017-10-12 18:43Planning a trip with camper trailer to Exmouth and was looking at staying at either Lighthouse Caravan park or Yardie Creek Homestead Caravan Park but have not had many good reports on either.
Has anyone stayed at either and can give feedback.
Was prefering to stay on West Side on penisular for close to beaches for fishing extra but if best is in Exmouth may have to go there.
Any feedback would be great.
Thanks

New Eskie
Submitted by Brock O on Sat, 2017-10-07 21:10Did a trip out Friday with a mates young bloke who was keen for a fish...after cancelling the Monday before we headed out despight an average forcast witch include winds from "Northerly direction" first half of day wasnt too bad although the bite was slow, we picked up a few undersized dhues, srg baker and surprisingly a few cuttle fish....with the bite time from 2 onwards we decided to stay a few more hours given the turn of wind to westerly would assist the ride home. Well as soon as the wind changed we managed a few from two different spots....got to give credit to the young bloke in trying conditions, at 14 i didnt hear one crip....and he persisted with the abrolhos SP all day even though the offer of fresh occy was there. I manage to land mine on jig first with his coming about an hours later on the 6" Pink / Purple Paddle tail....hes done quite a few trips over the years but has struggle to land many good fish...to say he was happy is an understatement....had to tell him to settle mid fight when he went to tighten the drag but after that all was good, the fish took some good runs 40m of water.
New Madfish bag arrived Thursday through Oceanside and was put straight to use, its not often i land fish over the 800 mark but when i do its a pain putting them on ice, especially when its multiple so having the bag was a must, first throught was it's a bit on the bulky side but that soon past...filled with home made block ice it done a great job with the fish coming home straight and colder than anything ive had in the eski....buying an eski over the 1m mark is expensive and to me adds extra weight i dont need.
Videos a bit rough but a good fight none the less...added sound due to the wind.

Gnaraloo July 2017
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Wed, 2017-10-04 21:54Hi Gents
Another year done and dusted at Gnaraloo and I must say, this year the weather was consistently the worst we have seen in the past 11 years. Our preparation was solid with everything ready to go for another spectacular year at Gnaraloo.
The forecast looked dreadful with strong SE winds predicted for the whole week. Seven days of a very persistent SE, S or SSE wind and a swell of over three metres was always going to make things interesting. Luckily the swell dropped throughout the week.
Our journey up was not without incident and for those of you who frequent Gnaraloo regularly will know that there is always a problem or two to sort out. This year we managed to lose our kayak off the top of the car on the way up. A few may remember my Sat morning SOS. We were lucky enough to pick up a replacement from a mate in Carnarvon (thanks Chris) only to have that one mysteriously go missing from the mooring on our second day there. Nice, swimming or bumming a lift it was. The new replacement hurt the pocket.
We stayed reasonably close to land for a few days fishing a few spots we have that produce some nice Spangled Emperor, Rankin and Snapper. Because of the weather, our strategy had to change as there was no way we were going to get out to our deeper spots. What we did do was stick to our spot for the day instead of moving too much to others. We persisted with the quick drift and at one stage this was cranking at 3kn per hour. Our persistence paid off and we were able to boat many of our favourite species. We targeted certain species each day and were rewarded with some nice fish to bring home to the families.
Bait was the go to method this year and did out fish plastics and the jig. We do love our jigging and did manage some nice tuna, GT’s, Amberjacks, Rankin and other Trevally species on them. There were plenty of Red Emperor around which was good to see, however, many of the bigger ones were taken by the ever-increasing shark population up there. The sharks seemed to leave the smaller (under 5kg) fish alone and anything bigger that was red seemed to get taken about half way up. It was really good to see our spots loaded with quality fish including a good return to the Robinson Sea Bream stocks this year.
Cobia seemed to be in good numbers again and we caught a lot of Cobia on the bottom rigs. We trolled our spots out wider in the 45’s producing the ever-reliable Yellowfin Tuna which were in excellent numbers this year. The usual bust offs, unknown hook ups and multiple spooled reels which we just had to laugh at as there was nothing we could do about it on the lighter gear.
We like to target the Spanish Mackerel by drift baiting stinger rigs. There were good numbers of Spanish Mackerel around and they were all big. The largest would have been 30 kg and the thickness of the steaks was as big as we have seen before. One of the things we notice up at Gnaraloo is that the fish are so healthy, plump and have a good amount of fat on them. Always interesting at the filleting station which has been semi refurbished.
Notable catches and species included in our 20 kilos of fillets were: Red Emperor, Pink Snapper, Rankin Cod, Robinson Sea Bream, Spanish Mackerel, Yellowfin Tuna, Baldchin Groper, Tomato Cod, Perch and Cobia. Notable acceptations this year included: Coral Trout, Coronation Trout and Perl Perch.
Booked for 2018 and looking forward to once again to be challenged by this amazing place in the Gascoyne. Gnaraloo offers so many fishing options to explore and every year seems to throw up new challenges and species to chase.
Highlights for 2017 included:
- Excellent numbers of undersize Reds
- Good numbers of big Cobia
- Big Amberjacks
- Good numbers of Yellowfin Tuna on the troll
- Seeing and fishing on a school of Spanish Mackerel as they were feeding.
- Some cracking underwater footage
Looking forward to seeing a few boats up there next year.
Regards
Dave

Registering a trailer
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Tue, 2017-09-26 09:17Hi Gang,
I've managed to pick up a 4.75m stacer hull (no outboard) and trailer for 2k (haven't paid yet, but confirmed I want it). I haven't seen it yet, but know that its a decent rig but have been told that the trailer is un-rego'd and there wasn't any transfer done from the guy that owned it from the original guy, yet it still has number plates on it.
I want to get it down from Karratha to Perth at Chrissy; is it is simple as taking it over the pits? What do I need to consider?
Cheers,
Adam

New zealand touring/fishing
Submitted by Jmac on Sat, 2017-09-23 12:11Hey all,
planning a spring trip to NZ driving from the bottom of the south all the way to the top of the North island, just wondering does every river and stream hold trout?
I plan to have a rod and just stop at every river I pass for a few flicks of a spinner(family trip, not hard-core fishing).
I assume most rivers will have fish, just wondering if anyone has done this kind of thing and how they went?
Anything other than trout in freshwater as well ?
cheers
