New craypot
Submitted by still trying on Mon, 2018-05-21 13:13 Hi all built a new craypot on Saturday now i have a little bit bigger boat i have gone bigger with my pot. I also halfed the angle to keep the bait baskets further away, this pot didn't cost too much as alot of the hardware i had collected off the beach at xmas while it was too windy to fish. I am thinking of buying a pot tipper from fish wise if anyone here has one would love to hear any feedback?
Baits fresh when its sucks on the motor

A question for those who live down mandurah way
Submitted by meglodon on Sun, 2018-05-20 21:03I went to catch some shrimps in the estuary for whiting bait and couldn't find any for love or money. After getting home and thinking about it for a while I could not remember the last time I saw shrimps in the estuary. At one time all you had to do was pass ofine meshed net through the weed that grows on the rocks and you would have all you needed for a whiting session.
Now phffft,nil,none zilch.
When was the last time you saw shrimps, not small prawns but actually the small white shrimps.

One for the pro's advice welcomed
Submitted by Hazzadazzlaa on Sat, 2018-05-19 17:00Hi Everyone, went to change impeller on a mercury 1996 25 hp 2 stroke and came upon this. I think its called a gear housing sleeve. Anyway looks badly corroded so i decided not to complete the job and this where i need advice. Is this bad ? Looks like seals are only mm from allowing water to get in gearbox. Do i get a a mercury service centre to fix or do i just take the chance and complete impeller replacement.

stone deflectors - part duex
Submitted by scotto on Sat, 2018-05-19 07:58probably to JohnF's disgust, I googled some stone deflectors, but was put off by the price (starting at $370+...), so I managed to fashion these ones up with steel from site, and a bit of conveyor belt rubber I had laying around. they're 1850mm wide, and drop 450mm. I'm yet to decide if I need to cut an exhaust hole out. they take around 1 minute to install, so I'll only be putting them on when I hit the dirt track.
I welded up a bracket that will fit around any standard Reece hitch/tow bar of 50mm SHS, so if anyone wants to borrow them after I've returned from my trip, I drink Gage Roads Little Dove... :)

Gnaraloo 3 day bash
Submitted by Tom M on Fri, 2018-05-18 16:48Hit the road Sunday evening after mothers day lunches, 3 of us all geared up for our first trip there. Drove through the night didn't see our first roo until Billabong and then they were everywhere through to the Overlander, quiet after that. Track into Gnarloo not too bad a bit cerregated in places but no drama just slowed down a bit. Rocked into the station and waited to check in. Easterlies blowing around 20knts but got the boat ready anticipating it dropping off around midday, weren't wrong so was on the water by 12. Never been there so a bit of searching and chasing Mackies no luck there but picked up some good spots in 40 meters and started bottom fishing. Mike first off with 11 kg estuary cod, followed up next drift with slightly smaller and next drift a lovely rankin. While me an Milan had to be happy with red throat and charlie courts, throw in a couple of sharks. Given we hadn't slepts since 6am Sunday morn we were happy to leave them biting head back in to clean up and a few beers. Weather pattern same the next day and thought we would continue to look around in the 40's as our quintrex 510 was comfortable and we were not with any other boats. Fishing poor as with other fishermen when we came in everyone complaining of sharks. One old mate fishing up there for 33 years summed it up, they were a nuisance last year just unbearable this year. So with 1 day to go we were offered the chance to pair up and head out to the 70's other boat getting some nice reds there. Nothing to bring in bad bad stories of sharks again. Plenty of Tuna busting the surface around our boat on a couple of spots on the way in but they wouldn't take a lure. We can only put in all down to the time of the day and tides. Will give it another crack though.

GT popping and jigging up north
Submitted by frenchfish on Fri, 2018-05-18 07:38Hi guys,
Just have a few questions regarding a future trip that I will be doing up north.
I am looking at the gear I have so far and trying to decide what setups to bring up there / or upgrade.
I'm thinking of taking 3 setups only.
A heavy popping outfit Catalina 6500H with Pe8 braid and my Saltist Pe8.
A heavy jigging outfit Saragossa 20k with pe8 braid and Saltiga jigging rod pe8.
A lighter casting outfit Saragossa 10k with pe5 braid and tcurve offshore pe3-5 rod.
Maybe a light jigging outfit Saragossa 5k with pe3 braid and a pe3 jigging rod.
My questions are ... Is my GT popping / stickbaiting outfit too light ? Do I need to upgrade my reel and get a 8000 dogfight ? Or do i just need to put Pe10 braid on my catalina 6500H which is already bulky with 30kg of drag ? Do I also need to get a pe10 rod ? or would my daiwa saltist do the job. Obviously I am not going to Oman but I don't want to be undergeard.
In terms or using smaller 100g jigs around the reefs, can I still jig with that heavy outfit ? Or should I get something a lot lighter for smaller jigs ?
Should I be bringing a backup popping outfit aswell ?
I will be casting the usual FCP CSP stickbaits, heru cuberas etc ...

What rod/reel to buy
Submitted by timboon on Tue, 2018-05-15 10:11Going to buy a new set up....
I'll spend around the $700 mark, prefer over head was thinking the Talica 8 or 10...
Will be jigging metals and placs, bottom bouncing and a bit of northern trolling....
I don't need/want a "pure new school" jig rod as I probably don't fit that mould the way I fish.
Ideas anyone?

Apparently Shark fishing is now Banned in Cockburn.
Submitted by Jason P on Sun, 2018-05-13 18:55Apparently Shark fishing is banned at the Ammunition Jetty in cockburn, think this a bit of an olive branch for all the greenies out there, as I believe the City has only jurisdiction to the high water mark and also wouldn't have the ability to police it anyway. Sure it may cause a few heated words at the jetty between rival groups. :(

Windscreen problem Saga Please Help
Submitted by Superfish on Sun, 2018-05-13 13:22I recently had the windscreen replaced on my Voyager Ghia by one of the bigger boat windsceen replacement companys in Perth who had been reccomened to by by a boating bisiness. It looked great with the tinded acrlic and the job looked neat tidy and strong. Only one trip out and develop three inch crack in bottom right hand corner.
Took it back and the replaced the broken screen. No charge
Took a boat trip out again three days later noticed another bigger crack same side. I also noticed when i was washing the boat that all six of the securing scews were leaking water into the front cabin.Took it back and was told after three days i could pick it up. When i arrived the trim arround the front inside not finished had exsesive wet silicone blob i was not happy at all. Ended up leaving the boat anther day.
Had to go back late the next day trim looked beter everthing looked good but i noticed both screens were bowed and when you push on the screen. As much as 16 ml or bit more on the right hand side as you push on it. Went and saw the manger in his office told him but not happy with the bow. He said acrilic does bow but it never had that bow in either side before i took it back. After close examination yesterday i noticed that in the sun it bows badly and then when the screen cools down it tightens up to almost an exceptable level.
Can anybody please help me with this? I am deperate to what i should do. I dont want take it back again but also dont want to feel that i have beeen ripped off with shoddy poor workmanship and every time i look at that winscreen it sags.
Please hlep if you can give me technical alvise on this you help would be very much appreciated.
Kind Regards and thanks for any help

Deep freezer handles
Submitted by redcans on Sat, 2018-05-12 19:40fishing legends.
I know lots of us take deep freezers on the longer trips away but how does everyone lift them when full?
im thinking of going to the local canvas shop and getting some straps stitched together to run underneath the freezer with some handles attached I’ll them run a ratchet strap around the freezer to hopefully keep the straps in place, any other ideas?
dodgy photo attached
cheers legends!
