Submitted by roberta on Mon, 2011-02-07 19:42I know its not fishing related but just bought 42" HD plasma Panasonic TV and still have problems watching channel 7, 7-2 & 7 mate. Couldn't watch it all week end and any other time. We have the proper cabling for HD on the aerial, our area is Spearwood and at the bottom on the hill but get excellent coverage on all other TV channels including HD channels

Yesterdays placcy session = PB.
Submitted by TWITCHEMUP on Fri, 2011-02-04 21:20Hey crew headed out yesterday to some new ground in 42m to jig a few placcys while the wind allowed....
First drop second twitch and "BANG" I'm on in a BIG way, after some seriously smokin powerful runs I finally turned the beast head, and up comes this Bad Boy my new PB 17kg Dhu... Great fight on the Stella 5000SW and Smith KGS 68m PE 4.
Another pic of the beast....
My mate Steve with a tasty Baldy that drilled his 5 inch placcy on the drop....
Next drop for me resulted in this 9kg model..... Happy Days
All in all it was a great day on the water with a total of 5 Dhus and a Baldy caught in 4 hours of fishing.
I was super stoked to get my new PB.... now just gotta get back out there and do it again.
Cheers Lloyd.

Leeman last 6days
Submitted by roberta on Sun, 2011-01-30 09:54Hi Guys & Gals,
Went to Leeman last Sunday, didn't take the boat, running in Prado, 3 days of 30knt southerlies, then the heat hit, then thunder and lighting, then a bushfire alert on Thursday night, lighting strike 15klms east of Leeman just past the lake near the Industrial area. Friday hot humid, night got woken up with a massive thunder/lighting show, rattled our caravan, so humid you could have cut the air with scissors, got up Sat morning, stuff this and come home.
Father/son camping went out Wednesday and got two nice size dhuies, 1 baldie, they were rapted and thats all I heard that was caught via boat.
Beaches......... for all you LB fisho's was very clean, very high tide in the afternoon, but with southerlies useless,
Pro went out Tuesday thru till Thursday morning and got 25 big dhies, %$#$#@
The new Engel fridge/freezer worked a treat, old fart tied her down for the trip, excellent result to and back from Leeman everything still frozen.
Thats it fellas, both ramps very clean of weed.
Did hear a whisper that Humpfreys Investments is going to spend $90 to $100 million dollars on a Resort/Caravan Park in Jurien Bay.......so hopefully he's not interested in developing the Leeman Caravan Park into a 4 Star Resort/Caravan Park

Never get tired of seeing this
Submitted by suicidal gardie on Wed, 2011-01-26 22:38Howdy guys an gals,
Weather loooked great for a bit of crabbing on the Peel Estuary in my tinny with my daughetr and nephew. Thought there would be a few boats out there but didn't think there there would be BLOODY 83 of them, that i could see with the naked eye.
After adding a bit of a secret to my nets it got off to a slow start but we managed to bag out with our 20 in 2 and a quarter hours and then upgraded for a further 30 minutes after thahich was fantastic, have had a some great feeds so far this season.
And nothing better than seeing a cooking cage full of delish.
Cheers

More Tailor from the Ski
Submitted by beau on Wed, 2011-01-19 12:46Headed out Monday morning nice and early, my lil bro and I using Richter plugs only. Had the fish smashing lures from the 1st cast. Caught 6 all up, 3 each, I released my 2nd one as i thought we were going to bag out pretty quick at the rate we were going, but didnt end up getting another hit for an hour after that, so that was a stupid call. Biggest going 55cm, smallest about 45cm. Had another sambo around 1m just cruising under the ski again in about 8m of water, we didnt bother trying to hook up to him this time. Got busted off on a good tailor around 70cm, was no match for the Shimano Catana and 8lb line!

The mrs and i had the pleasure of fishing lake Tinaroo on wednesday just gone with Ian of Tinaroo Barra Sportfishing. http://www.tinaroobarra.com/
I'll try not to prattle on too much just now as i am waiting to download the photos etc but i did want to give a massive G-up to Ian for MAKING MY YEAR! If anyone is looking for something to do close to Cairns or hanging out for Barra action...
GO TO TINAROO and CATCH YOURSELF A TROPHY BARRA! sorry - still very excited.
the gist is that we both caught our first barras and they went 118 & 120cms and 62 & 50lb respectively. Can't wait to get hold of the photos and pen the story to go with it. On that subject, does anyone have contacts in the magazine world? We are hoping to get the account of our day's fishing published...

Canning River Kayaking - A new PB
Submitted by Davy_G on Sat, 2011-01-15 14:06Hi guys
Launched at a jetty near canning bridge today in search of my first fish of a yak.
Started with a bit of trolling up and down the flats with not much interest.
Then I paddled up toward a few moored boats and casted alongside one, had hits and follow ups most casts and dropped a solid fish due to being distracted and not being able to set the hooks.
It went dead for a while then a bit later my rod doubled over and the drag started to sing. After a few solid runs a good flattie arose from the murky water. Only problem was I didn't have a net, somehow I manged to lift the flattie up onto the yak without the leader snapping and paddle to shore.
He ended up going 50cm.
After a few snaps and a succesfull release we decided to call it a day.
Cheers
Sorry for Dodgy pictures, Phones camera lens was dirty and wanted to get the fish back in the water.

For a laugh..
Submitted by Quan on Tue, 2011-01-11 08:19NEVER EVER play music on a BOAT!!!...this is why..
Once I was fishing off the shelf and decided to "bottom bounce", I had my trusty HMV vinyl record player and began to play Black Sabbath on 45. I started to catch blueye after blueye.
I then thought... imagine what would happen if I played it in reverse, so I drank some 2stroke, bit the head of a pilchard and stripped down to my Y-fronts. I struck my zippo lighter high in the air and started to bang my head on the outrigger, whilst spinning the record backwards with my left toe. The sky went dark, the birds began to drop from the sky, the ocean turned blood red, Father O'Brien dropped his fishing rod and ran into the cabin. Suddenly my stomach began to churn, whether it was the pilchard, the 2stroke... I had to run into the onboard toilet, as Father O'Brien was huddled in the galley clutching a crucifix which he pointed in my direction. I just made it to the loo in time. I sat down and did my business. As I went to get up, a hand reached out from underneath grabbed me by the family jewells and pulled me back onto the toilet. I yelled in pain and tried to get up for the second time. The same hand grabbed me by the unmentionables and dragged me back onto the toilet seat. Painful as it was I decided I was going to jump off the toilet, so I did, but the hand was too quick and the pain was so great, I fainted.
I woke up in Hospital several hours later with father O'Brien kneeling by my bed praying. I asked him if the Devil had finally let me go. Father O'Brien looked at me sadly with tears in his eyes and said "What Devil you idiot...you were sitting on a mop bucket."
Needless to say he will never take me out on his boat again.

PB Tailor from Cockburn Sound
Submitted by beau on Sun, 2011-01-09 16:43Well after reading Southcity's report from tailor from washy reefs last week, a mate and i decided to take the ski out on the New Years Day public holiday and try target these solid tailor on lures. We ended up with 3 tailor with the biggest going 48cms, we lost quite a couple, and there was a bloody big sambo easily 1m+, hanging around under the ski waiting for us to bring the tailor in, where he would try ambush the fish from below! Was quite a sight, and my mate ended up hooking him on a piece of fillet, using 8lb line and our flicky gear and as you can imagine the fight was short lived!
Decided to take my younger brother (pictured) out today and boy was the fishing hot!! 2nd cast over the reef and my pink richter plug gets smashed, this fish was an unstoppable, busting me off on the reef after about 10secs. I cast another richter popper in white and my lil bro a lil gold halco roosta for another hour and a half without even getting a hit. We then found the school again and picked up a mid 40's cm tailor on the richter. Had heaps of hits but the fish werent realy hitting it with gusto at this stage so none hooked up. We saw one tailor, estimated around 65-75cm's, hit the popper 3m from the ski, nowhere near the reef out in open water, this thing was huge, the biggest tailor i had ever seen in my life, bright silver side with a realy dark head and top, it took the plug down a meter then spat the hook! I think its mouth was too big for the lure! I was shaking for about a minute, i couldnt believe what i had just seen! I continued to lose about 5 fish, with hooks getting spat after only a few seconds of the fish hitting the lure.
We then found a school on another patch of reef and these fish were hungry!! Backflipping out of the water with the richter plug in their mouths was quite a spectacle. 3 solid fish in 4 casts, the biggest going 61cm to the end of the tail, a 53cm fish and two between 45cms and 50cms. I lost my second richter plug when another solid fish around 60cm swallowed the whole lure, and easily bit through the 18lb leader.
As you can see, the fish are a little too big for the biggest dish we had in the house. The richter plug is fast becoming one of my favourite lures, as the strikes are so visual and the action is awesome. The halco roosta didnt get one hit all day, so my lil bro got to model the fish for photos instead! This was probably one of the best sessions ive had fishing off the ski, it was definately worth getting soaking wet on the trip out! An awesome day with the flick rods and 8lb line!
** Excuse the wonky horizon in the pics! It was a bit rock and roll out there on the ski today!!**

Engel 4x4 Power sources
Submitted by roberta on Sat, 2011-01-08 14:42Hi everybody,
Just bought the Engel 57ltre fridge/freezer, with the good motor made in Japan, now what old fart would like to know. In the box is a three pronged power plug and the other end is to go into the Engel. Then there is all the other leads as well, In the landcruiser 2010 model deisel Prado, it has the three pronged plug to connect the Engel to the car (power box convertor 220v built in 4x4).
On reading the instructions in the Engel doesn't state whether this three prong plug set up will work in the 4x4, salesman at BFC said it might be for when you want to keep the Engel running while parked up. As the Engel only works in the Prado when the motor is running, as soon as ignition is turned off the Engel shuts down. The instruction booked for the Prado doesn't say anything about plugging in a Engel, but salesman said that is what its for.
Here are the questions
1. Do we go back to Toyota Service Centre and see if they can fit it correctly or advice, as we have only done 510klms need to do 1000klm for first service.
2. Or do we go to a Auto electrician for advice also
3. Would you need a adaptor when you plug in the Engel to main power from the three pronged plug
Fellas hope I've explained it correctly, remember I'm a blonde hahah

Recent Jurien trip scored me a PB
Submitted by honsu chin on Thu, 2011-01-06 23:35As many would know Seasports Charters haven been providing many of us opportunities to get into the light jigging scene. Many with PB and great captures. I recently scored my PB and my 2nd ever of this particular species. This time its legal size!!!
Weighed on the Bogagrip to 50lb. Caught on a PE 2 light jigging gear and 100gm jig. Only 40lb Flourocarbon leader.
Also got this nice Baldie as well.
on jig as well.
And the usual Dhuie. One of the 2 I caught that day.
Was a great day on the water with great company (Ricey and Ectopic and his missus) and of coz Whitey and his decky Matt.

A Swirl of a Time at Durien Bay
Submitted by abeldog on Thu, 2011-01-06 08:10as Team Conquest ( Alias Team Seaswirl ) had it's first training run in preperation for the 2011 Fishwrecked Comp in Jurien Bay.
Blessed by the weather Gods two fantastic days on Monday and Tuesday, left Perth at 4.30am in jurien by 7.30am and on the water by 8.30am.
Monday was the perfect glass off day however never taken a boat to Jurien before and not knowing the secret fishing spots the first hour was a hit and miss affair.
Finally the Skipper(Seaswirl) found some intersting ground we named it the "Baldie Patch" four Baldies came up in quick succession before we decided to move to deeper water.
Next spot produced a nice Dhuie to Abeldog(wearing the Dhuie hat) followed by snapper to Hooht ( the Snapper King ).
We tried to find the fads but realised that one of the numbers on Fishwrecked is wrong however the Skipper found the spot. "Redfm" had some birds we trolled around Abeldog landing a nice strippy tuna.
More searching for new ground before the day came to an end.
Tuesday on the water by 5.30am and we headed South as the weather was going to swing to the SW at about 11.00am
More poking around before Abeldog landed a nice snapper
We moved as we had enough snapper and then Hookt came into his own with a nice Baldie, followed by a great Dhuie that weighed 13.5kg. Yes no more about the ones that got away.
The rest of the morning was spent looking for ground, baging out with six fish and we were in by 2.00pm and then the three hour drive home.
Over the two days the Keepers were
2 x Dhuies
4 x Snapper
4 x Baldie
3 x Sweet Lip
We all learn't alot of new things on this trip, The importance of SUNSCREEN and a HAT, I ended up wit heatstroke, it hit me when I got home.
Boat handling, setups, launching, retrieving, reading plotter maps, GPS locations, however overall we learn't how important it is to work as a team on a boat.
Pulling lines in when someone is on a good fish, helping with the Gaff etc etc.
Can't wait for the Fishwrecked Comp only three months away. Yahooooooooooo

Twitched up mixed bag...
Submitted by TWITCHEMUP on Wed, 2011-01-05 17:18Hey fellas just thought I'd post up the a few pics from last Mondays session, headed out to Twitch some placcys and jigs at a few marks I have in the 20's then as the weather got better and the ocean glassed off I decided to head out to the 30 - 40 m range to mark some new ground....
A small Sambo that smashed the placcy 2 m from the boat and bolted for the bottom 22m below... but never made it...
My mate Mak with the best Dhu for the trip 7 kg's on placcy in 40 m....
Fellow fishwrecked member Fishwhispers with a nice Morwong pulled from 35m...
Catch of the day a solid 4-5kg Coral Trout smashed my plastic and took a bit to get off the bottom...
Another Pic.....
The days bag....
And a 3 kg school Mackerel that took a placcy aimed at small pinkys and bream while I was fishing my local rock wall the following day...
Not a bad day all in all.
Cheers Fellas..

Rotto YTK on the Kayak
Submitted by JohnSorrell on Wed, 2011-01-05 10:40To start the bragging, I’ve spent most of my xmas break on the family riviera, drinking and relaxing in the sun at Thompsons bay, Rotto... But, between relaxing, drinking and bad weather, I did managed to get out of the water and onto my hobie kayak which i've set up for a bit of fishing.
Arriving at Rotto on xmas eve, the weather was unreal, the wind dropped to nothing, and the water glassed off… So, after dark, I headed out from Thompsons bay around to Parker Point, covering over 14km there and back. This trip turned out to be an awesome night, catching Dhuies, KGs, Pinkies, and some of the biggest Snook I’ve seen, most well over a meter long, and all on 7" gulps.... Ended up heading back a 2am though, keeping only the 75cm Pinky and and 50cm KG for xmas lunch and dinner...
After this 6 hour trip, my battery was completely drained, so over the next couple of trips, the sounder was off, and I was blind casting (XD) and relying on my GPS, which proved to be very unsuccessful, with only 1 small Dhuie caught...
These 2 trips really made me realize how much I rely on my fish finder, so before heading out again, a charge in the battery was in need.. luckily we had a battery booster on board, which was able to charge it up for one more trip.
After a week of poor weather, came our last day on the boat, and my last chance to head out offshore on the kayak again… The idea was to boat around to parker point for the day, but after setting up ready to go, this idea was cut short, as one of the engines could not start when turning the key. A quick insepction, and I soon found the cooling system had sprung a leak during our trip over, flooding the starter motor with saltwater, and causing some serious corrosion on the contacts and solenoid....
Nothing could stop me from fishing this day… so I managed to strip the starter motor off the engine, and by using bits and pieces around the boat, a can of CRC and a spring from a clothes peg, I rebuilt it McGuyver style into working condition :)
4 hours later, covered in grease, we were off to the crystal clear 'pool like’ waters of Parker point, where I set out on my last trip on the yak, soon to become my most memorable fishing experience ever. Half way out, I realized I had forgotten my camera, but as the sea breeze was picking up, there was no time to waste… My target for the day was to catch a decent dhuie, so a little searching and I was over some good arches, though it seemed the fish did not want to play, each drop resulting in my plastic lure coming back annihilated by shit fish …
After 2 1/2 packs of gulps destroyed, I had almost given up for the day. But theres always time for that one last cast, so before heading back in, I decided to check out if there was any action under the birds diving further out.
A quick peddle over, and in no time, I was on top of large bait ball… then appeared the massive arches under them.
In no rush, I turned on my shark shield, picked up my Nitro Viper (which i had previously rigged with a 7” Cajun Chicken Jerkshad and a heavy duty jig head) and cast out into the wind, so as to drift back over the school.
Before I could wind in any slack line, the lure was smashed!!! my Viper loads up, and strangely, after setting the hook, I was able to wind back most of my line. A little confused as to what this dead weight on the end of my line could be, I glance over to find a huge shadow beneath me, then suddenly a massive flash of silver, as it takes a diving run towards open water… HOLY !$&%^!$ S#!+ this thing was fast… Peeling nearly the whole spool of my 150ft 15lb braid from my Sol 3000 in seconds...
I quickly realized I need to keep up, so by pedaling and winding like crazy, I was able to get back on top of the fish, still unable to turn its head. From then, all I could do was hold on and attempt to tire this monste It was intense, the fish stayed deep and the weight and headshakes were almost pulling the rod from my grips…
The next run was just as powerful as the first, as the fish took off towards the sanctuary zone into shallow reefy waters...
I realized i had no chance in these shallow reefs, so locking down my drag was my only option. This followed a good 45 mins of been towed, and taken for a ride, until it finally tired. As I slowly worked the fish up to the surface, both of us completly buggered, it brought back memories of a couple of lost chances with these fish... This was actually my 3rd YTK i've hooked in perths waters (last 2 from a boat), both lost at the net, so the pressure was on. After carefully gaffing, and lifting over my knees, then sliding the monster head first into the front hatch, I think I was too exhausted for the manditory 'yeehhaa!' of victory. Just a biig deep breath, before I headed back towards the boat, where my old man had already spotted me and had the camera ready.
What made it great, were the looks of shock and disbelief from everyone around, as I lifted this massive yellow tail from the front hatch of my kayak for a few snaps. Sweet victory! I finally landed one :)
Back on the boat, while enjoying a very very cold beer, I bled the fish and put on ice… measuring in at 1.3m long, and an estimated ~25kg.
Anyways, I feel very bad for keeping this fish, but as it is the 3rd I’ve hooked, and my 1st landed, I really wanted a photo..
Don’t worry, it will not go to waste… My family nearly exclusively eat fish, so it won’t last long
